Continuing a multi-part series on the handgun fundamentals of an RDS handgun, Aaron addresses the basics of using the RDS to help diagnose grip related issues.

Thank you for doing these videos, I’m 62 now and really appreciate learning from you. I have learned bad habits from other instructors. You have a gift of great common sense
That was the best schematic explanation of grip on a red dot handgun I have ever heard! Thank you Aaron for explaining it so thoroughly! dispelling the myths and explaining the why!!! 1000 likes
Wow this video actually helped me a ton. I shot thousands rounds with pistol and I still shoot about 2 inches to the left horizontally around 7 yards. Now that I think about it, I do put a lot of pressure with right and not enough with left. I am right handed. Thank you so much brother x1000!!! Will try this next time to the range.
I love these videos, i like to periodically come back and brush up on grip fundamentals, just to see if i missed anything or forgot anything and can make my grip more efficient
I don’t think you should apologize for making long videos. I like how thorough you are. Once this ammo shortage is over I want to book one f your rds classes.
Thank you. This is very helpful. I primarily shoot on a “one shot every 2 seconds” range. I like to chamber a round, remove my mag and have a shot followed by a dry-fire shot. I’ve been working this drill a lot and this video just gave me some invaluable info to make that drill a diagnostic for my grip, which will improve follow up shots.
Yes, I started weight lifting and saw a difference in my hand strength, I also bought a 10mm, try to control the recoil on that and 9mm gets easy, forget practicing with .22. Practice hard fight easy.
Great video! 👍You're videos and the way you disseminate the information convinced me to buy a dot about a year and a 1/2 ago. You're tips and advice are terrific, my shooting has come a long way and I appreciate the continued information!!
Damn Aaron, you didn't have to do us like that @ 2:50.... Haha thank you so much for doing this video. Your videos help me out a lot, especially this one.
Many thanks for posting this. My biggest problem was with lateral pressure, I was applying almost none at all. Just Fore and Back pressure. Trigger pulls no longer disrupt sight alignment while firing my double action from full decocked when dry-firing. Took me about a week to build the muscle memory.
Love all you do and I watch everyone ,all your videos. Would love to see you shoot a 40cal duty carry . Same grip applies but much different recoil. No comp, no light weight ? Just lots of recoil.
I’ve done a lot of dry firing with both irons and a red dot. I’ve come to the conclusion that my problem is fire anticipation and not my grip nor trigger control. How do you fix that??
Another excellent video. Thank you. Definitely will try the tape if I understand correctly you are taping the the rds so all you see is the dot while shooting to isolate it’s movement?
@SageDynamics .. I learned alot from this video. At 04:35, “the driving pressure with the thumb” (primary/dominant thumb) ... This tip has helped my accuracy due to the improved grip. However, I noticed that my thumb will ride on the slide lock release, sometimes causing an override. When that happens, the slide will not lock back when the mag is empty. Any suggestions on remedying this? Thanks.
This may sound weird but I actually kind of pinch the bottom of the trigger guard between the thumb and index finger of my support hand while my thumb is pointing along the frame at the target and my. index finger is pointing back at me along the bottom of the trigger guard. Kind of like making a fist with my support hand while pointing my thumb at the target. I use my support hand to control the horizontal alignment of the pistol and my main hand to control the trigger and recoil. I believe that's an old point shooting concept however I'm using it to align my dot over my target. I'm also looking through the dot to superimpose it onto the target.
You can also use a "Laser Sight" or a laser Bore sight during dry fire as well. What he's discussing here applies to ALL handgun use RDS equipped of not, it's just much easier with a RDS.
@SageDynamics Hey Aaron, have you checked out the Noblex-Docter Optics Glock MOS MRDS yet? If so, do you have any thoughts on the Noblex Docter Glock MOS MRDS or are you planning on reviewing it? Love the vids, thanks for making them!
Getting older and decided a RDS on a handgun is a practical necessity. Torn between two choices. The RMR 2 and Delta Point Pro. Both have plus and minus features. Home defense, range, and maybe repel ANTIFA are objectives. Will go on a G19 MOS. Any advice?
Highly recommend RMR 2. It was the gold standard of pistol red dots (and may still be). As such, companies, like Holosun (which would be another solid option and is the one I currently use, the 507c), have used the RMR footprint. So, if you ever decide to switch, the footprint will remain the same. Hope this helps.
Aaron I just saw a Sentinal by Swampfox that has the same footprint as the Shield RMSc that I have my G43 and G48 cut for as it was the only one available at the time. Can you please review it in the near future? I have been trying to find the HS507K that you reviewed, with no luck. Thanks for the most informative videos on youtube.
@@406Montana I know they are different products from the same brand. My point is that I don't think he will be reviewing it anytime soon. Who knows though, I enjoy his content, even when it's a product I don't intend to buy.
I watch this video every month. Ive gotten to the point I can do 3 or 4 shots keeping track of my dot at a decent cadence. But , If i try to just mag dump I fall apart after a few rounds. Good thing is that every time I watch this video I find something to take to the range with me. Im shooting 3 to 400 rounds every weekend trying to get better. I think Im choking the crap out of my gun , maybe too tight of a grip ? Is that even possible?
The dynamic of this video was sage-like.
Love these fundamentals videos
The time I spend listening to Aron is.... irrelevant. It is all time well spent!!!! 😃
Thanks for all you post Aron

You will know who is a badass instructor when you saw one shooting 10 headshots with his pinky.
After few decades with iron sight, I’m moving to the RDS system. In Learning mode, this info is very valuable
Thanks for teaching us how to better ourselves for free. 🤘🏻

How did it go
Virtual learning at it’s finest. Thanks
Home school at it's best.
Great info. I have been shooting for 45 years and it’s good to get reminders.

Such a thinking teacher, you can simplify stuff so well!! Appreciate the content Aaron!!
Great information. I will definitely be doing some experiments with tracking the dot at the range tomorrow.

I just discovered the channel, I will be watching tons of videos to prepare for my RDS transition course in May! Great content.
Incredible info in this video.. Wow .. thanks from Italy Aaron

I do the same thing!
Lifting heavy weights helps a lot too. It makes a hard firing grip feel more normal over time.
Yes, I started weight lifting and saw a difference in my hand strength, I also bought a 10mm, try to control the recoil on that and 9mm gets easy, forget practicing with .22. Practice hard fight easy.
Deadlift, chin ups/pull ups and heavy barbell rows helped me with this as well. It's now easier to hold the gun harder for longer.
A great series, Aaron!
Thanks, Aaron! I appreciate the analytical explanations!
I can't believe I'm just now finding this channel.

Great video coaching, makes me want attend your classes even more, for a total learning experience!

Thanks
Another good one man! Keep um coming
Great series. Thank you.

Very good and informative video as always. Thanks brotha

I will never buy green again.

Please do more RDS pistol classes in Canyon, Texas.
Like south of Amarillo Canyon, TX? He's been there?

A.C. gotta ask, what Glock 19 trigger(s) do you recommend or use? One that is rock solid, something you trust in your EDC.
"DOT CURIOUS" 😂😂😂😂 I'm so childish
I was dot curious, you helped me become dot confirmed
Great Science
Fuckin incredible information. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
And I thought well I was told it was A 60% 40% grip thanks for the correction
lookin like the michelen man, respect
Hey I can definitely agree with you. I can shoot a really tight 10 shot group at 10yrds with a RmR on my sig p355XL
What type rds you running on the p365xl? Looking at my options
I was dot curious, now I have one. The jury is out on whether it was worth it.
How's it going, 2 years later?
@SageDynamics Hey Aaron, have you checked out the Noblex-Docter Optics Glock MOS MRDS yet? If so, do you have any thoughts on the Noblex Docter Glock MOS MRDS or are you planning on reviewing it? Love the vids, thanks for making them!
Not yet. On face value it appears to complicate every thing that makes an RDS advantageous.
I just played tug of war with myself. I lost.
stevenajpvv but you also won!

@@Giovanni-od7if All advice is welcome, thanks
Actually like my Holosun 507c
What did you go with ? I went with 508t v2 circle dot is the way
Sunny cat 88 went with the RMR. So far I really like it.

He has an Instagram post about the kingslayer. He wasn't a big fan at all. I sold my Swampfox to get a Holosun.
@@thibert35 Thanks for the reply. It's not the same red dot. The Sentinal, from what I gather, is a fairly new unit.
@@406Montana I know they are different products from the same brand. My point is that I don't think he will be reviewing it anytime soon. Who knows though, I enjoy his content, even when it's a product I don't intend to buy.
Wonder what poundage you use on your triggers, carry and/or what you use for videos?
Whatever the OEM weight is. I use flat trigger shoes when possible but that’s it.
Is there a reason for wearing the hearing protection backwards, or is that just the way the hearing protection was put on for filming
Yeah. It works both ways.

Off the subject, when zeroing your dot should you do it from a rest or bag? Or zero free hand standing?
Junior 83 ..Hey bro, when zeroing any optic or dot, you should do it supported on a bag or rest of some kind. Have fun 😁
Wrong on both. You should be zeroing from libtards thick dumb skull ;)
I’m sure resting your gun mag off bench will do the trick.
🤙🏻💪🏼🇺🇲
I don't understand how covering the lens with tape helps to visualize the RDS?
I used to be “Dot Curious” and eventually gave in to the desires…..
Wooooowwwwwwww........ @ the grouping
I got in a gun fight at the local hellmans factory,. thank God i shoot both eyes open because things got messy.
So much for the NO PLACE TO PUT MY PINKIE PEOPLE! 🤫
C2 or P??!
You mean I can’t do thumb over bore?!
I guess you can, but only twice!😬
These videos are awesome, but they don't replace taking Aaron's rds defensive hangun class. Get trained.
I just signed up for a Sage Dynamics RDS class for Aug. 2021 and I don't even have a red dot yet.
@@MCgrease08did you have fun?
I prefer the car accident. At least for now.
Great vid for those trying to get there Bruh
