Man I tell ya seeing you both there playing around with the D2 sure does make me miss my dad and step dad. Wish i could have had more memories like that with my dads. Live it up Squatch and Squatch Sir. Great video, i always enjoy seeing you guys work and having fun together.
Yessir my Dads been gone 31 yrs now, and darn if it don’t take a peek in his Machinest box, smell that old cutting oil and look at his tools he made w his name stamped on the handle. Prayerfully I’ll remember “all” the good stuff he taught me in the 41 yrs he tried to teach me “the right way”
You are a "right and proper stand up son." :-) I have absolutely no experience with a Cat starting engine but as a rule, it is not advised to wrap any starting rope around your hand in case of a backfire. A wood dowel is preferred on the end so it will readily slip out of your hand in case of a backfire rather than ripping some skin off your hand. No, I am not a safety Nazi, just experience talking. :-)
I laughed at the part where you handed over the “key”. I normally expect a “will it start” video to be throwing in batteries, giving it a snort of ether and seeing what happens, but your “will it start” video is Right, Correct, and Proper.
Easy startup on the starting motor. Desiel sounds awesome. Sr. Looks natural in the seat, almost like he was born to run a D-2 crawler, nice!!! Thanks for sharing.....
Senior drove that crawler like he’d been on one before! That is a nice unit. Good luck with it. Looking forward to finding out why the oil in the fuel pump was messed up.
You mentioned in the last video about getting back on X231 once 5J1113 is done. This guy here is definitely looking forward to more Minneapolis Moline content. Wouldn't mind seeing X253 getting out and stretching her legs again, too.
Definitely a well preserved machine. I would check the inside of the air cleaners just for a good measure. But if senior likes it then nothing really I can add to it.
The little I've seen your dad in videos, he was downright giddy when you handed him the keys to his new machine complete with a Squatch guarantee warranty for any future repairs.
This D2 seems to be in good condition. Starting the starting motor with one pull is pretty impressive and the diesel engine runs smooth. I have been learning a lot from your videos , I have a 1956 D4 7u series I am hoping to get it up and running again.
I am skeptical that that was your first time running with that machine I kind of would bet that you didn't drag it off the trailer and you probably drove it on the trailer I bet you knew it was running all along
will it run???? of course it does, you just rebuilt one and knew what to look at. :) the best was Senior beaming smile when first took.the controls by the barn. Stone face and grin a mile wide.
Great video; yep Senior climbed aboard and took off like he wrote the book on that procedure, garden looks great and the yard is kept nice and tidy. First pull start ? Wow , I’m impressed 😃
Thanks for showing the right way to precheck the crawler before starting . Lots of attention to detail. Learning a great deal from you. Am very interested in finding a d2 for my kids.
My dad was the inspiration for a good portion of the old heavy rusty iron stuff I mess with. Unfortunately he wasn't interested participating. Something about having too much fun in life was morally suspect. Depression ww2 era upbringing I suppose. You and your dad don't have that problem. Keep it up. Enjoy all the time you can. 🙂
Pretty garden! Looks like ya'll are eating good. Now you know your next move is going to have to be taking over manufacturing replacement parts for these. You are becoming the go-to guy for this stuff.
That D2 might be the best one you guys have bought. I'm glad you happened upon it. Good luck with the machine. It's good to see you guys working with the machine.
Anything I know about Cats is what I've picked up from this channel an boy that D2 to me seems sweet as a nut 👌 great to see Senior at the controls an the smile he had at the end spoke volumes 😁 great video 👍👍
That depends on the price (would have to be cheap, or free lol) or if it had a bad engine but very good undercarriage it would still be worth a bit of money because good undercarriage parts are the hardest to find. Stuck engines are a complete gamble though, the only way to know for sure what you’ve got is to bite the bullet and pull the cylinder head to inspect before trying to un-stick it. Too many times people have tried to free up a stuck engine the “easy” way and ended up grinding the rings through heavy cylinder rust and caused even more damage. With how difficult it’s becoming to find new engine parts for these, I take the slow but sure way every time, and it’s always the most work but if you can save extinct parts in the process it’s worth every bit of it 👍
Where do you find all these tractors where all the hardware comes undone easily (even if initially loosened up first) and is not full of rust? : ) I'd be two hours done on those clutch adjustments just getting them freed up : ). The local custom exhaust shop may have a reject generic muffler that you can slip on the pony so you can hear yourself think - works wonders.
What i find hilarious is after all the blood sweat, tears and gears of 5J, just as you wrap it up, you just stumble across this one. Some people get all the luck! Also, Ill have a vid for ya in a couple days - a triple tap walk around for ya.
I just was going to ask are you going to take it for a little drive and you answered the question right away the engine and the upper half of the tractor looks really good and needs minimal work done to it you said the tracks in the chain and the idlers were kind of rough shape that's what people need to look for when they buy a old dozer like that cuz engines in the upper half are easy to find but it's the drivetrain that becomes hard
As someone who drives John Deere two cylinder tractors frequently, it always gets me to see pulling the throttle lever toward you to increase speed, and pulling the clutch lever toward you to engage it. These old Cats are backwards, haha…
Man senior’s gonna have some great quality time with that beauty for sure! She purr’s like a new kitten! That’s one great purchase you got there! Looking forward to what you’re going to be doing for her next!👌😎👍great video Squatch!
It did look like the Ol Fella liked his crawler, getting away from machines for a minute you guys have a great Vegetable garden. I this all seniors work or do you both work in it.
Nice tractor. Thought about just returning it to/retaining it in original condition? Would be a good ag tractor for those plowing demos/running a thresher etc. Probably retains the ag gearing in the gear box? You've got all the bits, and know how...
For the #5U7968 your showing, the ejection pump that was white, would there be a tell tale smell that would give a clue as to where the water originated from, cooling or rain in much the same as diesel fuel in crankcase oil?
You took very good care of your father by locating this and I read that water in the oil could build up if it was parked in a humid wet location and not started for a while.
Love your enthusiasm for those old tractors. Thanks for the tutorial on steering clutch adjustment I need to do that on my 2J that I recently acquired.
Thanks for sharing sounds like a great running 2 good to see Sr out I’m sure everyone would love to see you and Sr working on this to get it how he wants it
Man I tell ya seeing you both there playing around with the D2 sure does make me miss my dad and step dad. Wish i could have had more memories like that with my dads. Live it up Squatch and Squatch Sir. Great video, i always enjoy seeing you guys work and having fun together.

How dare you use an adjustable wrench... on camera... 🤣
Lol. Good one.
I was about to write a comment . A crescent wrench have you been taking lessons off of Rick Bork lately 😂😂😂
If you turn the knuckle buster over it’s a metric wrench.
Rick Bork Approved!!! 🤣🤣🤣
@@squatch253 I’m here. I’m watching. I’m appalled.

This D2 is a year older than me and starts better than I do in the morning...lol
I am impressed with your respect and obvious love for your father (Sr)...That's why I look forward to each and every video from you...
As they say what goes around comes around. 😊👍

A will it start is literally throwing batteries and ether at something, this is just a start up

Looks like the garden is doing well this year. When do we get a walk-around of it?
You mentioned in the last video about getting back on X231 once 5J1113 is done. This guy here is definitely looking forward to more Minneapolis Moline content. Wouldn't mind seeing X253 getting out and stretching her legs again, too.
Agreed. That poor old MM just sitting there, after all that amazing tool building and machining, well that just ain't right.
Definitely a well preserved machine. I would check the inside of the air cleaners just for a good measure. But if senior likes it then nothing really I can add to it.

It doesen't have a gear drive fan...no need to release the compression when shutting it off.
Someone power washed it too good around the governor housing and got water in it.
Totally off topic, but beautiful garden.
Thank you so much for your Videos and teach us a lot about these wonderful machines. Please go on. Greetz from Germany!😊
I can't stop watching this video. I can't wait till you have the new track chains on 5j1113. Will she be ready for plow day?

Omg!..it started!.....as if you didn't start it before....give me a break..
will it run????
of course it does, you just rebuilt one and knew what to look at. :)
the best was Senior beaming smile when first took.the controls by the barn. Stone face and grin a mile wide.
The garden at the Squatch Ranch looks really good.
D2s are built for short legged people. D4 , your rd6 are for long legged people.
I am using this video in my engines class today!!!! The kids all vote for the narrow RD6 as the next video series..... nice work guys
My lawn mower doesn’t even start with just one pull…
mayo isn't a good injection pump lubricant?
Don’t forget if you restore a crawler for sale I’ll buy it.
Great video; yep Senior climbed aboard and took off like he wrote the book on that procedure, garden looks great and the yard is kept nice and tidy. First pull start ? Wow , I’m impressed 😃

Thanks, just didn't know. Now I do.
Ya need to let us know how many tractors are on the property
Senior has one fine looking garden this year.
Could you do a walk around of your F-12 and talk about its story some time?
That D2 might be the best one you guys have bought. I'm glad you happened upon it. Good luck with the machine. It's good to see you guys working with the machine.
Well you're almost done with 5j 111 whatever so you might get start on this one or you can finish up the prototype Minneapolis Moline tractor

DADGUMMIT. You've got me wanting a D2 even more than I already do.
Thanks for using Luke’s favorite tool to adjust that detent. Definitely a high precision instrument.
HOW DARE YOU CODY!!!
Roll that beautiful bean footage! 😂
“I’ll hand off the key”. 😂😂very funny
I was confident it would start with relative ease, but I was NOT expecting the pony engine to start on the first pull.
He definitely looks tickled pink
Need a old combine to pull with it
Good morning
Thank you for the video
Would you buy one with a stuck motor from sitting? How would you go about freeing it up?

SHOTGUN!!!
Watching Senior get in reminded me of those duece coupe days...no leg room.
5J1113, X231, 5U - seems like a good 5 year plan.
HOW DARE YOU?!?
If I wanted to see crescent wrench hackery I’d watch Rick Bork!!!

So what is that used for? I didn’t see any sort of front end hydraulics or anyway to lift from the rear so exactly what is that good for?
@@squatch253 I see. Guess you have your work cut out for you.

Love the D2, but how about a walk around of that nice looking vegetable garden you drove by?!?!
Is that the best sounding D2 main engine ive ever heard? To be fair my memory is terrible,so im probably wrong.
In any case it sounds all business 😃
I havent scrolled down the comments and have just started watching the video and I predict she won't let you and senior down! (Fingers crossed!)🤞🤞🤞
Squatch Junior and Senior the Cat Man's, you are awesome
You are really getting knee deep in D2's! I think I count 4 maybe 5 now??

Good to see Senior He's looking well.
That thing runs sweet, and Senior looks good sitting up there. He's a natural. I couldn't help but notice that gorgeous garden is deer-proofed.
The corn looked pretty good.
It's not cat proof though. We can see tracks from them running around the lawn.
@@squatch253 Wild rabbit stew is a personal favorite of mine. Live off the land,I say.
@@Drottninggatan2017 Lol. Good one, but those are the good kind of tracks.
For an old machine, it has some good grousers(sp?). Don't often see that.
Nice D2. Senior ought to be tickled. Garden tour if you have time would be fun. Looks like a nice one.
This is a great project for you guys. Great vid. Thank for sharing
Wow two things Toby. First off what a nice garden, and another great Caterpillar addition to the heard.👍👍
I was in East Peoria a few days ago. There is a Harbor Freight store about where that tractor rolled off of the line. Sad. That factory is all gone.
Senior looks natural in that thing,,,,,other than a few minor adjustments it seems to be in pretty good shape,,,,
Great video good machine. You know what you are doing and explain it well .
Nice one.
The two of you make an awesome video together. For having low fuel pressure it sure ran smooth. Great buy .Denis from California.
You took very good care of your father by locating this and I read that water in the oil could build up if it was parked in a humid wet location and not started for a while.
Why did you check and change some of the oil, but never looked at the air filter to see if it had oil, dirt, water, etc, in it?
That D2 is cherry. Shouldn't take much to put it to work.
so could you swing those arms around so you could use them forward or backwards?
12:51 I had faith! Runs like a sewing machine - particularly the low idle.
Sewing machine lol.
Nice Addition !!👍🏼 everything looks pretty good!
Love your enthusiasm for those old tractors. Thanks for the tutorial on steering clutch adjustment I need to do that on my 2J that I recently acquired.
I believe you got a runner,I always like seeing you and senior out gettin it done it brings back good memories.
Love the sound of that starting engine. Music to my ears. One pull, that is nice! Did you miss showing oiling the clutch?
Enlighten me, why activate the compression release one shutting down?
Do you ever flush the starting engines with something like trans fluid?
Thanks for sharing sounds like a great running 2 good to see Sr out I’m sure everyone would love to see you and Sr working on this to get it how he wants it
Wow that sounds so good. That's one nice mechie
1:27 Only when you can't see the writing on the dipstick she'll need a change, but if it still slips between the fingers she's good to go!

I Want One too.
I think that d2 is going to workout great for Squatch Sr! It has a great sounding motor. Cheers
Looks like a fine Cat to me. It also purrs like a Fine Cat. Thank You 😊
