Sterling Sharpe was my first favorite Packer player. Just an incredible guy to watch when you're just starting to watch football and you're 5-6 years old. He was almost like a God to me then.

He was a once in a generation WR. And look at the dominant teams of the NFC. Cowboys had Emmitt Smith, Aikman and Irvin, 49ers had Watters, Young and Rice, and the Packers had Dorsey Levens (really under appreciated) Favre and Sharpe. If Sharpe could have played in 95, maybe they win one or two more and win the #1 seed or go to Texas Stadium and instead of Favre fumbling and costing them the game, they score and put the game out of the reach of the Cowboys and win a Super Bowl. Then they are back to back champs in 97. Maybe if Sharpe is healthy and they have Robert Brooks and Antonio Freeman, they don’t get upset and they are triple world champions. And that would only be Sharpe’s 10th season! They could have won maybe another or two. Maybe if they keep winning, Mike Holmgren stays. It’s really had to say, but Sharpe staying healthy would have changed the entirety of the late 90s.
Shannon Sharpe has admitted in past interviews that Sterling was a way better athlete than him. If injury didn't derail his career, who knows man... Green Bay might've had at least 1 more championship, at least I think so. At least he got a ring before having to tap out. Many never even get the chance.

They had it all figured out when he would break it because he was so consistent. They never ever thought he would just up and quit at the height of his career. People hating on Calvin either pay attention only to stats and most likely didn't watch many of his games to see how much attention he took from the defense, resulting in opportunities and increased stats for other receivers, backs, and ends, or tend to forget that he was playing for the freaking Detroit Lions who in his last 2 seasons ranked among the bottom 5 in the league in rushing attempts and rushing yards, coming in dead last in yards gained and ypc in 2015. He experienced incompetent coaches with no offensive game plan more intricate than "lets hope Calvin has a good game or distracts the defense so someone else can" which came to a head with the Colts reject Caldwell who QB coached one of the best QBs ever and rode the coattails of Peytons statistical success every year following, somehow allowing the offense to underperform when it mattered most to a laughable postseason record during his QB mentoring tenure not including their SB season in 06, of 3-6, while having pretty solid pass catchers with Harrison, Reggie, Dallas, Edgerrin, Addai, hell even Stoakley and Collie could catch enough passes to warrant their 3rd spot on the depth charts. Their single Superbowl appearance came against possibly one of the worst starting QBs to make it that far maybe ever (Including Trent Difler (misspelled purposely because he was mean to me at a celebrity golf tournament of which I refuse to forget)) who managed one short TD, and then threw another one to the Colts to even out the score. That game would have looked way worse if Hester hadn't returned the kickoff for more than twice as many yards as Grossman passed for in the first 3 quarters. 118 of his 165 yards passing came in the 4th with series ends of, INT returned for TD, INT, Turnover on Downs, End of Regulation. It was so bad that 25% of his completions and just over 20% of his yards came on the last drive where they just made it past midfield as time expired. You must mean his last couple seasons in 2013, 14 and 15, when the Lions decided to get him a competent #2 receiver in Golden Tate in 2014 who jumped from #31 in Overall in yards and #46 in Total Receptions in 2013 with Seattle, to #6 in Receptions and #7 in overall yards with Stafford possesses a cannon, but has typically made two bad throws for every good one. Few more unnecessary stats, in 2013 the top 3 players in total receptions for the Lions after CJ were Reggie Bush, Joique Bell, and Brandon Pettigrew who combined for 148 receptions for 1,469 yards that year to Calvin's 1492 yards on 84 catches while also missing 2 games. He was 17th in receptions, 3rd in yards, netting 7 yards less than Antonio Brown despite playing in 2 fewer games, tied for 5th in receiving TDs and averaged slightly more than 106.6 yards per game which was second only to Josh Gordon's freak year. What's really crazy in 2015 his final season, he still ranked 11th in receptions but managed to open up the field for Golden Tate to rank 10th, and Theo Riddick to rank 21st overall combining for 170 receptions and over 1,500 yards. In his last season with 88 catches (11th) for 1,214 yards (10th) and 9 scores (T-14th), he had fairly similar stat lines to Fitz, A.J. Green, and Gronk, none of whom anyone would have considered to have had an offseason. I could write more but ugh, no more energy or mental concentration for semi-accurate statistical analysis. Great powers be with any who attempt to read this.

Jim Brown is the best Running Back ever. I'd put Barry Sanders at #2. Both Averaged around 1500 yards a season. However, Jim Brown averaged over 5 yards a carry and 104+yds per game for his entire career. Only Sanders comes close in yards per game. Jim Brown was rushing for 1500 and once for 1863 yds in 14 game seasons on mud fields. This man rushed for 1527 yards at 6 yards per carry in the late 50's IN 12 GAMES!!!!! That's a 2000+ yard season today. The 1863 season would have been at least 2150 yards if the season were 16 games in that year. Jim Brown was a BEAST!!! Relative to his era, he was domination on a rare scale.
Barry Sanders looked like he never aged. If you flip on a highlight from any season in his career, you wouldn't be able to tell which season it came from. He was simply always exceptional.
Yes and no. Barry wanted to win more than anyone he didn't care about stats he wanted the win. On top of that he hated the media if he played five more years and his last year says I'm retiring or his last year says it. The media would be all over him and like every legend would have the whole media circus farewell tour. He was classy and quiet, he tipped the ball to the ref after every TD and maybe first down or down and he tries to have minimal media before, during and after each game. Lions back then weren't going to win it all and over 20 years later still isn't close. Lions need him, Lane and Megatron to be playing it's too bad all three couldn't be on this team they'd easily be a dynasty heck berry and Lane or lane and megatron would be with this team. They need a corner and WR or RB. Yeah they got all three, but they need depth a SB team has depth which is why the lions never and may never win a Lombardi.
Can you imagine telling your grandkids you got to play against the best RB in NFL history in Barry Sanders. Then you bust out your old highlights tapes and the only highlight that you cherish is the time you got to actually get a finger on Barry as he was juking your whole defense out of their jockstraps. Not slowing him down, not tackling him, but just one finger as he left you in a cloud of dust, laughing all the way to pay dirt. How the hell is anyone supposed to tackle a man that is so shifty, he can even juke his own shadow and leave it in his rear view.
That doesn't make you number 1. That was the only thing impressive about his season. If you paid attention, he also missed 4 regular season games and the reason the Broncos were successful on offense that year was because of Terrell Davis' 2,000 yard season not Elway. Since you seemingly didn't pay attention, Jim Brown went out winning the league MVP and was unanimously considered the greatest player in the history of the NFL at the time, and obviously still in his prime being still considered the best player in the league when he retired. Winning a Super Bowl MVP is nice, but it's one game. Larry Brown & Desmond Howard have Super Bowl MVPs too. This is about walkoff seasons, and had it not been for the Super Bowl MVP, Elway wouldn't even be in consideration for the list at all. That doesn't bump you up from not even belonging in the conversation to number 1.
He had to quit early. The kind of RB he was, any kind of physical drop off would have his performance drop off of a cliff. You can see those bigger guys prolong their careers past their physical prime, but guys that rely on evasion like Barry did have no chance once they lose a step.
It was more than just that. He was drained. He said in an interview it takes everything in you to play this game and by the end, he just didn't have that drive and to play only to break Payton's record was not something he felt he could do.
In 2006 Barber was great but we had L. Tomlinson, Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Adrian Peterson, Warrick Dunn, Larry Johnson, MoJo Drew, Fred Taylor, Addai, C.Dillion. the League was stacked with Backs.

The Lions had 10 years to build a team around Berry and they didn’t build one. Can’t blame Berry for leaving when he is risking his health and body for team that is not giving the same amount of effort back.
People don't understand how great Jim Brown actually was. He played only eight years and his numbers are still some the highest we've ever seen. Half the people I talk to don't know who is. Absolutely wrong about Kurt Warner being the first one in the modern era to be that good that late. Favre, Elway and Rich Gannon were also good when they were old. Gannon took Oakland to the SB when he was 38

True but I think he deserved a SB win. He basically carried the Giants for a few seasons cus Eli was trash and still trash. Those 07 and 11 Giants championships had A LOT of luck involved lol. In the NFL the best team doesn’t always win the SB cus it’s 1 game, which players and teams can have a bad day. That’s why at the minimum I think either the Conference championship games should be a best of 3 or the SB should be a best of 3.
They never say what Warner's numbers were his final season so here you go: 3,753 yards, 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a 10-5 record in 15 games.
Not to mention that in his last playoff win he had more touchdowns than incompletions and a perfect QB rating(29 of 33 for 379 yards and 5 TD's). Had he not gotten knocked out with a dirty hit he might have played a couple more seasons.

I'm glad you put Brown here. That Eagles team never recovered when he passed and White left. You ask any player of that team and they said the will to play started to leave when Brown left. It's one thing to lose one of the best players in the league, its quite another to lose the heart and soul of your team.
The Eagles from the late 1980's to early 1990's were on the verge of being a great team. They had loads of talent but unfortunately things happened and they didn't win a championship.
Sterling Sharpes shortened career is one of the great one ifs. He was on pace to potentially be a top 5 WR of all time. He had the hands, athleticism, and size. With Favre, he prolly would’ve helped Favre win 2 SBs. He prolly would’ve ended with career stats of 15000+receiving yds, 1000+receptions, and 120+ TDs. Prolly 8-9 Pro Bowler, 4-5x first team 2X second team, 5-6x receiving leader, 3-4 TD leader, 2-3x Receiving yd leader, and a SB champion. Those kinds of stats and accolades would’ve definitely put him in conversation for top 5 WR and/or even best WR of all time
Honorable Mention: Terrell Davis. Terrell could even be considered on this list. If he could have stayed healthy, he might have shattered a lot of records.
WTH? Other than Jerome Brown this is all offense. What about how great DB Charles Woodson was in his last season?!! Winning defensive player of the month and being in the running for defensive player of the year at 39 years old!!! Thats super impressive at 39! Leading team in tackles as he had done since green bay. Playing nickel, free, strong and weakside LB. Being a great blitzer dude had it all. Patrick Willis could also be up there although he was still young.

Don’t really understand how Jerome Bettis isn’t on this list. Comes out of retirement to win a Super Bowl as the sixth seed IN HIS HOMETOWN. He didn’t put up huge stats. But he was the heartbeat of that steelers team. His play of running over Brian Urachler set the tone for the rest of the season.

As a NFL Fan The John Elway Farewell was way better than the Seinfeld Finals season. Elway retires with 2 straight super Bowls, Super Bowl MVP and NFL MVP he should be a Emmy winner period
With Barry, I always say that it’s great that he chose to go out on his own terms as one of the top running backs in the league and one of the GOATS of that era. Instead of the punishments of the game telling him to retire. But still very sad to see him go, he was the man back in those days. :)
And now in 2020 Jim Brown gives back to his community by working with at risk youths. Started his own Foundation has visited the White House to pitch his agenda for youths to the President of the United States. He didn't need football to be a great leader of men. Football needed him.

I think it's important to point out that Hutson was a WR and a kicker AND a defensive player. He intercepted 30 passes in his NFL career. Also, he had only one fumble in 10 seasons. Jerry Rice fumbled 27 times though in fairness, his career was twice as long.

Nothing says he couldn't be productive in todays era, especially as linebackers/safeties get smaller and focus on the passing game. He'd eat people up if you took young Brown back to this time.

There is no way you can say that Warner or Barber had a better final season. Hollywood couldn’t have WRITTEN a better final season for the Bus. You must mean his last couple seasons in 2013, 14 and 15, when the Lions decided to get him a competent #2 receiver in Golden Tate in 2014 who jumped from #31 in Overall in yards and #46 in Total Receptions in 2013 with Seattle, to #6 in Receptions and #7 in overall yards with Stafford possesses a cannon, but has typically made two bad throws for every good one. Few more unnecessary stats, in 2013 the top 3 players in total receptions for the Lions after CJ were Reggie Bush, Joique Bell, and Brandon Pettigrew who combined for 148 receptions for 1,469 yards that year to Calvin's 1492 yards on 84 catches while also missing 2 games. He was 17th in receptions, 3rd in yards, netting 7 yards less than Antonio Brown despite playing in 2 fewer games, tied for 5th in receiving TDs and averaged slightly more than 106.6 yards per game which was second only to Josh Gordon's freak year. What's really crazy in 2015 his final season, he still ranked 11th in receptions but managed to open up the field for Golden Tate to rank 10th, and Theo Riddick to rank 21st overall combining for 170 receptions and over 1,500 yards. In his last season with 88 catches (11th) for 1,214 yards (10th) and 9 scores (T-14th), he had fairly similar stat lines to Fitz, A.J. Green, and Gronk, none of whom anyone would have considered to have had an offseason.

Jim Brown is the best Running Back ever. I'd put Barry Sanders at #2. Both Averaged around 1500 yards a season. However, Jim Brown averaged over 5 yards a carry and 104+yds per game for his entire career. Only Sanders comes close in yards per game.
Jim Brown was rushing for 1500 and once for 1863 yds in 14 game seasons on mud fields.
This man rushed for 1527 yards at 6 yards per carry in the late 50's IN 12 GAMES!!!!! That's a 2000+ yard season today.
The 1863 season would have been at least 2150 yards if the season were 16 games in that year.

Yes and no. Barry wanted to win more than anyone he didn't care about stats he wanted the win. On top of that he hated the media if he played five more years and his last year says I'm retiring or his last year says it. The media would be all over him and like every legend would have the whole media circus farewell tour. He was classy and quiet, he tipped the ball to the ref after every TD and maybe first down or down and he tries to have minimal media before, during and after each game. Lions back then weren't going to win it all and over 20 years later still isn't close. Lions need him, Lane and Megatron to be playing it's too bad all three couldn't be on this team they'd easily be a dynasty heck berry and Lane or lane and megatron would be with this team. They need a corner and WR or RB. Yeah they got all three, but they need depth a SB team has depth which is why the lions never and may never win a Lombardi.

Since you seemingly didn't pay attention, Jim Brown went out winning the league MVP and was unanimously considered the greatest player in the history of the NFL at the time, and obviously still in his prime being still considered the best player in the league when he retired.

He had to quit early. The kind of RB he was, any kind of physical drop off would have his performance drop off of a cliff. You can see those bigger guys prolong their careers past their physical prime, but guys that rely on evasion like Barry did have no chance once they lose a step.
It was more than just that. He was drained. He said in an interview it takes everything in you to play this game and by the end, he just didn't have that drive and to play only to break Payton's record was not something he felt he could do.

They never say what Warner's numbers were his final season so here you go: 3,753 yards, 26 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and a 10-5 record in 15 games.
Not to mention that in his last playoff win he had more touchdowns than incompletions and a perfect QB rating(29 of 33 for 379 yards and 5 TD's). Had he not gotten knocked out with a dirty hit he might have played a couple more seasons.

I'm glad you put Brown here. That Eagles team never recovered when he passed and White left. You ask any player of that team and they said the will to play started to leave when Brown left. It's one thing to lose one of the best players in the league, its quite another to lose the heart and soul of your team.
The Eagles from the late 1980's to early 1990's were on the verge of being a great team. They had loads of talent but unfortunately things happened and they didn't win a championship.

Sterling Sharpes shortened career is one of the great one ifs. He was on pace to potentially be a top 5 WR of all time. He had the hands, athleticism, and size. With Favre, he prolly would’ve helped Favre win 2 SBs. He prolly would’ve ended with career stats of 15000+receiving yds, 1000+receptions, and 120+ TDs. Prolly 8-9 Pro Bowler, 4-5x first team 2X second team, 5-6x receiving leader, 3-4 TD leader, 2-3x Receiving yd leader, and a SB champion. Those kinds of stats and accolades would’ve definitely put him in conversation for top 5 WR and/or even best WR of all time
Honorable Mention: Terrell Davis. Terrell could even be considered on this list. If he could have stayed healthy, he might have shattered a lot of records.

WTH? Other than Jerome Brown this is all offense. What about how great DB Charles Woodson was in his last season?!! Winning defensive player of the month and being in the running for defensive player of the year at 39 years old!!! Thats super impressive at 39! Leading team in tackles as he had done since green bay. Playing nickel, free, strong and weakside LB. Being a great blitzer dude had it all. Patrick Willis could also be up there although he was still young.
Always enjoy learning about older football legends like Don Hutson and Norm Van Brocklin. List seemed pretty solid other than Sterling Sharpe being in the top 5.

Sterling sharpe was Rice level in the early 90s and would have been just as great. He was better than Irvin, Fryer, Brown, Jefferies, Reed and Rison at that time.

With Barry, I always say that it’s great that he chose to go out on his own terms as one of the top running backs in the league and one of the GOATS of that era. Instead of the punishments of the game telling him to retire. But still very sad to see him go, he was the man back in those days. :)

The focus on stats in this video led to one of the greatest final seasons being left off. Jerome Bettis belongs in the top 3, at least. There is no way you can say that Warner or Barber had a better final season. Hollywood couldn’t have WRITTEN a better final season for the Bus.
