Great Job Josh, really enjoyed your video on the ARGtek range extender kit for my P3 Standard. Have yet to try it out, but after the rain passes, I'll give it a go!
The Blue Proton kit I just received as a gift has 3 tall and 3 patch antennas. The two tall antennas for 2.4 ghz are just 7 dbi. It's winter now so I won't be trying the kit out for 3 or 4 months but I hope they perform as well as the two monsters you use in the video.
First, love the videos. Keep em coming. Second, I use a screen recorder for my tablet when I fly. That might benefit you, instead of wearing your back pack with the computer. Happy flying!
I got it several months ago solely for the "follow me" feature and was planning on doing a review and everything. Sadly the "follow me" feature didn't work as well as I had hoped so I never messed with it much after that. I'll revisit it and try some of the other things it has to offer.
Nice thumbs up, i wounder if you also use cds around that big antenna and skyread if it will give you more feets.... also will does big black antennas work on a phantom 3 standard will ?
The problem with all these antennas are they attached directly to the controller and they are too low to the ground. Try attaching them (or better, bigger patch antennas) to a very tall (but portable) pole or light stand, then run as short as you need coaxial cables from the controller connectors to the antennas on the pole, I bet you get at lease double that distance. Happy flying!
Stormtrooper you can either make them yourself or look on eBay, here is a link.www.ebay.com/itm/10-ft-SMA-male-plug-to-female-Jack-Extender-Jumper-Cable-RG316-3m-US-Stock-/111991048229?hash=item1a132fc825:g:DO0AAOSwDNdVmayw
I bought the ARGtek kit after i watched your video. Good stuff and it works better. Whats that an ipad mount for the dji controller? Where can i get one
Go check out my channel, and look for the video where I show which tablet mount it is and show the whole installation process. It's the inspire 1 mount.
So freaking awesome, so awesome! I've just ordered mine as far as the Mod for the controller but thinking about upgrading to a 12dbi Antenna. Any thoughts on that?
Great video! I agree, the 3 Omanis would be my choice as well. I have a question about your tablet holder for your remote. Is it real stable? If so I would like to know who makes it and where you bought it. I definitely need one for my full size iPad Air 2. Thank You.
+willymccauley it's a holder for an inspire 1. Here's my video on how to install it ua-cam.com/video/eSrtuUWAoRk/v-deo.html - if you decide to buy it please do so through my link in the description of that vid. It won't cost you any extra but I'll get a little kick back for referring you.
great vids and looking forward to more good product info. i to have the P3 standard and am going to upgrade to the argtek but i also have a futaba T10CHG and am wondering if i was to change out the receiver to a futaba 2.4g and use my futaba would this effect my video/wifi link?
thanks for the answer. i will have to swap out the phantom standard receiver with a futaba and see if anything bad happens. i plan on using this as my fpv (with my fatshark) exploring drone. i need to have a clean 5.8g signal for the fatshark video and head tracker. i plan on using the head tracker to control the camera gimbal. i like you vids.
Lol nice video but I have a question. Can I put 15dbi wifi antennas instead of 10dbi? I think if I install 15dbi ones, it'll have better range. Thanks!
Thank you for you time and effort I have learned a lot from you .my question is - if im buying the argtek mod or the dbs mod can I use other antenas like my asus router antenas?Rif not what the difference in the antenas?can you do DIY mod at home with stuff that you can buy online?im feeling like its very easy to modify your controller , you just need to know what to buy.thank you again!
hello bro congrats! you videos are amazing! I have a question do you get some latter in orages when your conect your phone or table say No internet connection ?
+Raul Valladares I'm not sure what you meant in that first part but yes when you connect to the remote it should have a check mark showing it's connected, but will also say "no internet connection" because you're really not connected to the internet. You're essentially creating a private network between your phone/tablet and the remote.
Enjoy your site very much. Bought the antennas this morning, hope to get them in a few days and give them a try. I have the ARGtek antenna kit with the flat and long set up, about $70. I am getting around 7000 feet with them in open field. Are these black antenna for video or for distance. Was thinking the middle one was the only one for distance. Let me know please.
Great test, even dated as it is. Among the best I've seen is ITELITE. One guy got 4000m (not feet) or more than 12,000 feet. Right, over 2 miles... holy moly.
At 3:59 you close the lid on your Mac. What keeps your Mac on once you close the lid? I tried doing the same thing, and it works great until I close my Mac lid, when the recording stops, due to the Mac going to sleep.
so you have the three tall antenna kit. It appears you get greater distance with those than with the paddle antenna. Omni-directional vs highly-directional -- what's the point of the directional paddle antenna if the omni work so well?
+Living Water Spiritual Community Great question and in my opinion there isn't really a point. At least in my experience they perform comparatively as far as distance and the Omni-directional are obviously less finicky. I don't know the last time I even tried to use flat panels. I suppose their could be a use case but T least for me I haven't found it yet.
PLEASE REPLY TODAY>>> I am thinking about getting those two black 10 dbi antennas for my P3 standard argtek upgraded signal booster and i dont want to waste my money if it doesn't work and reply back TODAY if you still recommend those antennas or if their are better ones
Hi, did you notice any difference with the 10dbi antennas? I have the same kit and I sent them 2 antennas of 10dbi of the link of amazon that entered in the description of the video
what settings for video are you using your video looks a lot better than mine and I have the special edition and every single time I go out of range I start getting Skippy on my SD footage can anyone help
Interested in buying this ARGTEK mod for my P3 Standard but wanted to know if I should buy the 2 10dbi antennas that you have in your video or buy the blueporton ones ? What would get a better connection and also do those antennas that you have in you video collapse to make them smaller their kind of long
Hi I have been watching quite a few of your DJI videos, I have noticed during your distance and flight test that you are in front of power lines where you control your drone. Have you ever tried one of the same flight tests from other side of the Power lines? Just a suggestion , i think you would get more distance and better video? Test Away :-)
+DrewsGFX ARGtek does make 2.4ghz antennas but I don't know that they sell them on their own. The new argtek kits come with three tall antennas as well so we missed the boat on that. I got mine by purchasing the ARGtek car kit which I modified to work with my Phantom 3 Standard
At 3:59 you close your Mac and put it in your backpack. How do you keep your Mac recording with the lid closed. Mine goes to sleep when the lid is closed.
JT, upgrade question ...Are the 3 connectors on the 3 tall ARGtek upgrade antennas the very same connectors being replaced on the stock antennas? If you could take a close-up picture of the ARGtek connectors that must be snapped in place and post it or send it to me in email it would be so helpful. I know you have a tight schedule but if you get the chance. It would help me know more about the modification. I look at the 3 connections a little when I had my clamshell apart but with the silicon glue covering them I couldn't really tell how they snapped in. Thanks so much in advance for everything you do for this Hobby. Did I say Hobby??? I mean obsession!!! 😉
+Dan Lee hey Dan, sorry but I just got on a plane and won't be back around to the Phantom for 6 days so I can't really get you a picture. But by memory, yes I'm sure they're the same.
JTO2GO No problem, I know you have a full plate all the time and I know time is very precious. Maybe later you might just take an iPhone pic of the connectors when you get back and send them text or something. No hurry. I really would like to see them to kinda prepare on how they come out. I've watched several vids, including yours several times, and getting them off and the new ones on seems to be the hardest part. After your encouragement to put the tablet holder on I'm not as afraid now to tackle the ARGtek upgrade. Have a good trip and as always "Happy Flying"!
+AV8 Droneworx it's the ONLY way to do it for free. There is another app that you can buy for $10 called the build store that has something Called Air Shouhu in it that allows you to record.
Thank you so much for the reply. I've always been a PC or windows tablet user. Been thinking of getting a Macbook Air for my editing of videos for youtube and facebook. These videos would come from my gopro or my drone. What Mac are you using? I like the compact size of the Macbook Air. Thanks in advance!
+AV8 Droneworx mine is a late 2013 MacBook Pro. From that year on the MacBook pro's have been pretty much the same thickness as the airs. The only difference is that the air slims down even more on one end and forms a wedge shape which I perusing like. The screen, and performance is also much. Enter on the pro model and for $300 more I think it's totally worth it. I don't know about the brand new 2017 model that just came out though.
Thanks! I was at a conference recently and ran into someone using a 11" macbook and I was really impressed at the size. I was looking for something that I could knock out my drone videos with quickly to give a customer a quick look at the footage.
I enjoyed the video, I know this was a yr ago, but I recently did the upgrade myself. The problem I have with your video is the fact that you used the larger dbi antenna for the 2 outer connections... when watching the install video from the manufacturer website, the 2 outer antenna are for the WiFi video downlink connection. At least that’s the way I understood it? Please correct me if I am wrong. I was to believe the central antenna was for the remote control signal , to operate the aircraft I.e. transmit/receive... so changing the WiFi video transmission antenna should in no way, have any affect on the remote controller signal.. plus they operate on different wavelengths, one at 2.4ghz and the other @ 5.8ghz. So if you increased the signal with those larger dbi antenna, it should have only helped your video transmission, correct? People need to know this!!
i got this range with the standard antennas on my p3 advanced, and in a about the same enviroment, so medows and trees, so this mod is useles. And i live in europe, so our drones are in CE mode, so more restricted than the fcc ones in the usa.
JTO2GO Ok thanks for the reply. I'm just getting into flying and am obsessed with learning as much as I can. Channels like yours are the best kinds to learn from thanks!
Hey bud been watching your videos on the P3S Argtek upgrade and I screwed up. I broke the connector off the board for the 2.4 antenna and can’t find anything on a replacement part and don’t know where to turn. Any help would be much appreciated. Hopefully I don’t need a new controller.
Well, I tried this set up, at 260 ft up. ARG Tek set up with 2 10 db black antenna from amazon I Lost signal at 1,400 feet. I lost 1,000 ft. distance When my controller was stock stock I could get 2,400 ft. distance I have yet to try the two 7 db flat panels. I was even holding the controller right at the DJI . Talk about going backwards. I have the same firmware too, never upgraded.
So my Argtek upgrade has gone well. I have at the least doubled my range under the same conditions as the stock antenna. My next question. Is there a compatible receiver antenna upgrade for the quad itself, replacing the small wire antenna...or is this even nesesary? ideas thoughts?
I have a question if you don't mind answering for me. Your video testing the aftermarket 10dbi antennas screwed into the ArgTek mod.... will any 2.4ghz antenna work? I followed you link to the antennas used in the video and there are 12dbi antennas as well. Will those work? Is there any sort of limitations?? If I find a 15 or 20dbi antenna, can I screw them on and run with it?? Gotta be a catch. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.
If iPad is connected to laptop recording - How are you flying with telemetry and control - I do not know because I fly a P3 Advanced and I can ONLY connect the Ipad to controller?
Do you know of a good carrying case for the Phantom 3 Standard With the Argtek mod on the controller? I realize you have to take the antennas off but just looking for a good case to carry around in.
So with these antenas you don't have to worry about the directional issues you see in the ARGtek correct? I got the phantom 3 standard for christmas and have been disappointed in the range so I am considering ARGtek. I have heard ARGtek you have to point it to the direction of the drone. If so i'll pick this setup up through your amazon link.
+Craig Nelson yea it definitely is the best setup. There is another ARGtek kit that actually comes with three of the tall antennas now I'd recommend that. (It's what I'm using now) Still click through my link though so I get some credit for sending you through.
Hey, I have a question for you. When I take videos on the standard they come out all staticy. I was wondering if you know what I'm doing wrong or what I can fix. Thanks!
+Hittinallday 15 Well if you're doing it in low light it's going to struggle. In low light I shoot 24fps which helps. Other than that if you shoot in the highest resolution possible then downres it to 1080p it will sharpen up the image a lot and get rid of noise.
Ordered this kit (new kit comes with 3 10db tall thin antennas) from amazon and will use this tutorial to install this week - thanks again
+Harry StJames You're very welcome
looks like been a while since you did a dji phantom 3 video. but I'm thankful for them. just bought my first drone and you videos are very useful
Great Job Josh, really enjoyed your video on the ARGtek range extender kit for my P3 Standard. Have yet to try it out, but after the rain passes, I'll give it a go!
+OldTown Webmaster Thanks man! Let me know how you like it!
+Stretch 9x Well good luck. I don't actually use the monster ones anymore, I got two of the 2.4 tall ones with my car kit
Another excellent video and explanation of the accessories for the Phantom 3 Std. thanks.
Nice job. Another well produced video. You have an excellent approach to these videos.
Thank you! I'm glad you like the approach. I'm still not exactly sure what I'm doing right but it seems to be working lol
thx 4 the info im a big drone fan and I finally got my 1st phantom3 and looking forward to doin the argtek upgrade
+terrell cole glad to hear it man! Be sure to buy through my link if you do!
Kool will do
Nice review, thinking about modding mines, not sure when but I will eventually
First, love the videos. Keep em coming. Second, I use a screen recorder for my tablet when I fly. That might benefit you, instead of wearing your back pack with the computer. Happy flying!
+ReeferMikeyD yea I do that now that I figured out how to do it on iOS. Thanks for the support and glad you enjoy the videos.
Hi I’ve got three 20 db antenna works great
just installed it! thanks JTO
+Johnny Payne You're welcome!
Hey mate, I downloaded the Litchi App for DJI drones and its amazing, you can send it on an autonomous flight. Get it man and try it!
I got it several months ago solely for the "follow me" feature and was planning on doing a review and everything. Sadly the "follow me" feature didn't work as well as I had hoped so I never messed with it much after that. I'll revisit it and try some of the other things it has to offer.
The argtek I just bought had the big antennas for all three antennas on Amazon, it also came with the flat directional antennas too.
Make a video with this antenna mod and magic power. Can’t wait to see the results.
thanks for the videos, and for driving an awesome XJ!!!!!
Nice thumbs up, i wounder if you also use cds around that big antenna and skyread if it will give you more feets....

sounds good but what would you get the extended low loss cables that would fit the connectors with 2 screw on connectors 1 female and 1 male

+Jaewoo Lee I think it would work yes
JTO2GO oh ok thanks for the reply 😊
Get a satellite dish as an antenna
Enjoy the videos. Very helpful. what video editing software are you using?
+Bass Broker Final Cut Pro or DaVinci Resolve
Keep it up man! It's hard work making videos all the time with a Job. I know the struggle. Don't Give up! Great Channel, Great COntent
+Rody Davis I appreciate that! I'm not giving up!

+Eli Wa Yes they're just normal wifi antennas. As long as they're the same ghz rating.
thanks for the review/test!
hello bro congrats! you videos are amazing!
+Rod Weems they all count. If eithe signal goes out you're dead in the water.
when you buy on amazon it will arrive with all you need? thank you
Great test, even dated as it is. Among the best I've seen is ITELITE. One guy got 4000m (not feet) or more than 12,000 feet. Right, over 2 miles... holy moly.

You are great! Keep it up, I just subscribed!
Hi, thanks for the video, I got the ARGtek and in the box it came with 3 long antenna and 3 square antenna, what would be the best setup you think?
so you have the three tall antenna kit.
So do you recomand Three 10dbi Antennas or its same range as normal one ...????
When you remove the antennas, how does the controller fit in your case? Does the mounting bar for the antennas get in the way?
+Hardin Thicke no in my particular case. I have a video in the works where I'll go over my top 5 phantom accessories and you'll see the case in there.
Now, if you were to get a closer look at that tractor, would you loose signal?
will it effect the controller output power in future if we change to 10dbi antenna? if not then i guess we can try with 15dbi antenna...any advise?
PLEASE REPLY TODAY>>> I am thinking about getting those two black 10 dbi antennas for my P3 standard argtek upgraded signal booster and i dont want to waste my money if it doesn't work and reply back TODAY if you still recommend those antennas or if their are better ones
Outstanding review!
i have the Argtek i did one video today improved my signal but i'm curious about fix 3 antennas like in the video
Hi, did you notice any difference with the 10dbi antennas? I have the same kit and I sent them 2 antennas of 10dbi of the link of amazon that entered in the description of the video
+B & L Studio Yes, much improved omnidirectional signal.
Hey brotha I just got 1600 feet from 500 stock thanks.
Hi just noticed your link for the Antennas are differant than the one's your using..?
You look like jonah hills brother 😁🙏🏼 nice video
How are you getting 4000+ feet stock? I'm only getting about 500 feet out when I lose signal. What could be the issue?
+Wayne Parke it's all location and weather etc.
Wow, thank you for responding!
Have you tried any power boosters or any other antennas?
+Wayne Parke just the ARGtek and the Skyreat
JTO2GO have you tried the papatita (magic power) mid?
since you like suggestions - why don't you try Sunhans boosters with the Argtek?
+Wayne Parke I'll have to look them up and maybe give them a shot when I have time.
really enjoy your videos thanks
+Doug Dill You're welcome
what settings for video are you using your video looks a lot better than mine and I have the special edition and every single time I go out of range I start getting Skippy on my SD footage can anyone help
+Johnson Robins 2.7k 24fps
Interested in buying this ARGTEK mod for my P3 Standard but wanted to know if I should buy the 2 10dbi antennas that you have in your video or buy the blueporton ones ? What would get a better connection and also do those antennas that you have in you video collapse to make them smaller their kind of long
+anthony rivera The new blue proton kits come with three tall and three flats. Those ones are sufficient.
JTO2GO where would you recommend buying them from do you have a link ?
+anthony rivera Link is in the video description.
Stunning view
Thank You
That is an insane distance to be able to go. Have you a video on how to fit this kit?
+Danny Rice yes, it's my most popular one on my channel
This product is no good..i just installed it on my p3standard It only gets to 400 feet and I get rtf..this video got me to buy it but I'm disapointed
Would the overhead cables not have an infuence on your signals
Your videos are very good continue like that 😊 + a subscriber
+David Coelho Thank you :) I will
Informative video! Thank's man!
I suppose purchasing two more of the ARGTek 10dbi antennas wouldn't work right? Since they are 5.8GHz?
+DrewsGFX ARGtek does make 2.4ghz antennas but I don't know that they sell them on their own. The new argtek kits come with three tall antennas as well so we missed the boat on that. I got mine by purchasing the ARGtek car kit which I modified to work with my Phantom 3 Standard
Awesome, thanks for the info! And fast reply!
great tip thanks for the info
At 3:59 you close your Mac and put it in your backpack. How do you keep your Mac recording with the lid closed. Mine goes to sleep when the lid is closed.
+Who Cares I use an app called NoSleep to keep it awake.
JTO2GO
yep, that did the job, thanks.
Where did you get the black 10dbi antennas you show on your video?
JT, upgrade question ...Are the 3 connectors on the 3 tall ARGtek upgrade antennas the very same connectors being replaced on the stock antennas? A question. Will these antennas fit on the Phantom 3 Pro?
so i can mod my remote with 3 10dbi antennas and the video feed and range will work?
+Kelvin Martinez Yes!
JTO2GO thanks i maybe going to try it
Great video! Is that the best way to record the screen? Attach the ipad to the Mac? Thanks!
+AV8 Droneworx it's the ONLY way to do it for free. There is another app that you can buy for $10 called the build store that has something Called Air Shouhu in it that allows you to record.

Nice flight. I'm not to far from you I'm in Cincinnati. 👍video
Thanks!
What flight mode are you in when you fly your drone.
Dane Pedregon most people do mode 2 if your saying controller style, but for flying it's p-atti which is gps assist to help stabilize the drone
I only have that little copper WiFi extension on the controller and I got mine over 8000 feet away
Tk's I'm going to try it
I would recomend investing your money into getting a phantom 4
+UAV Photography I just ordered a Mavic Pro last week. I like the form factor better. But I'm still going to do videos on the Phantom 3 Standard.
i got this range with the standard antennas on my p3 advanced, and in a about the same enviroment,
so medows and trees, so this mod is useles. And i live in europe, so our drones are in CE mode, so
more restricted than the fcc ones in the usa.
I want the range extender 😀😀😀
Hi mate, where do you purchase those long 10dbi 2.4gz antennae? thanks
+Bob Fraser does the link in the description not work anymore? I got them from amazon
would you get farther by adding windsurfers to them?
+Josh GDubs Probably but would lose some freedom in regards to directionality
JTO2GO Ok thanks for the reply. I'm just getting into flying and am obsessed with learning as much as I can. Channels like yours are the best kinds to learn from thanks!
+Josh GDubs You're welcome and thanks for enjoying my content!
Where can you get the argtec omni directional replacement wifi antennas ?
I posted this not My Wife. Computer was logged in under her account.
Hello!
Knows where I can buy a 5.8ghz antenna, I already have the 2 of 2.4ghz 10dbi.
Now wanted the 5.8ghz of 10 or 14dbi.
thank you
Hello, l have a dji phantom 3 standard. How do you play your videos on you laptop? Is there a app to download or?
+Sam Sanders just any media player that handles the file format.
great job loved it
If you loose signal with these antennas does the drone just return to home?
+Kenny Loggins Yes
Is there a certain way to position antennas?
Any mods on upgrading the antennas on the drone?
+Jim Wind no ive never seen that one but that's a great idea.
what is the connector size for the upG 10dbi bro??
So my Argtek upgrade has gone well. I have at the least doubled my range under the same conditions as the stock antenna. My next question. Is there a compatible receiver antenna upgrade for the quad itself, replacing the small wire antenna...or is this even nesesary? ideas thoughts?
+Dan Holland I've gotten this question once before but have never heard of/seen anything like it.
JTO2GO Thanks for the reply. I've not heard of one either. Perhaps someone out there in DJI land could chime in.

Thanks.
If iPad is connected to laptop recording - How are you flying with telemetry and control - I do not know because I fly a P3 Advanced and I can ONLY connect the Ipad to controller?
can you upgrade the wifi antenna that's inside the drone.
+eric myers I'm sure you could but I don't think anyone makes a kit
nice stang
Where in Illinois do you live? I'm up in the Illinois river valley near Starved Rock. Seriously thinking about getting this DJI quad.
+popoaggie I live in Peoria. But I'm moving to Philly end of this month.
Can you send me a link to the kit that comes with the 3 antennas?
There you go man! amzn.to/2hzUSEh
What tablet model do you use
like the comparative
Hey, I have a question for you. When I take videos on the standard they come out all staticy. I was wondering if you know what I'm doing wrong or what I can fix. Thanks!
+Hittinallday 15 Well if you're doing it in low light it's going to struggle. In low light I shoot 24fps which helps. Other than that if you shoot in the highest resolution possible then downres it to 1080p it will sharpen up the image a lot and get rid of noise.
JTO2GO Thank You!
what would happen if you put the skyreat antenna onto the other long antennas?
+Dec Plays I'm sure it might boost he signal but it would also make it more directional, which I don't like.
JTO2GO yeah, that would make the controller signal worse
What shade of lipstick is that? Plumb???
