It's August 1, 2018, the controller updates itself now. I do have a modem here that has cable and wifi built in, there is a wifi signal floating around my room here all the time the modem is on. Just turn on the Phantom 3 Pro/Advanced controller, turn on the tablet, and it will connect and update new firmware on it's own. Don't mess with any SD card.

Dude! This video was awesome! I'm new to the RC world and decided to purchase a Phantom 3 Pro used from a private seller. He didn't have any instructions with the AV so I did the next best thing. Went to UA-cam. Your instructions were spot on and I was able to get the AV current and ready to fly. Thanks.
My P3S arrived yesterday and went to DJI.com to download the firmware. The firmware upload instructions are now different. The only download is the PDF document on how to upload the firmware, no bin file. You have to turn on the aircraft and the controller, pair the unit with your device and download through the DJI GO app. The process took approximately 15 minutes but you have to switch WIFIs 3 times. Surprisingly the process was painless and SUCCESSFUL, contrary to what I have read. Now I hope the thing will fly properly. I don't know if it was your site or another but the following is recommended: 1. READ the instructions and READ the preflight checklists posted on youtube. 2. Keep both toggles switches, S1 and S2 in the UP positions. 3. I'm not an expert and have flown other q-copters, i.e. the Walkera 350, small and medium ones, but recommend starting in Beginner mode to acquaint yourself with the quirks of this aircraft. 4. The gimbal is pretty close to the ground so I highlyrecommend buying the gimbal guard or the extension legs. 5. There are several after market hop ups but be aware this may null your warranty.

purchased phantom 3 advanced yesterday here in the UK, they've come down loads in price because of their 10 year anniversary as well as other (more expensive out of my budget at least) drones being released.anyway to the point,I'll be definitely trying the firmware update on both today and many thanks to you for well explained tutorial,even if can follow it.

Then i tried to change new battery to test if i need to again use the new firmware..but i found the green light was steady..no blinking red or green..and no further sounds.. so, my conclusion is..the p3 advance upgrading method is good as we saw..but..since the item manufacturing company with the software may come from different countries...so, the upgrading methods may work as we saw here and may not work for RC for some..but overall thanks to this gentlemen who really did teach and managed to help us...thanks man...

just a heads up for anyone that doesn't have a USB adapter, you can do the same thing by using the micro USB port on the side of the gimbal on the phantom, then switch the phantom on. the phantom will automatically switch into USB mode which will then convert the gimbal into a USB adapter. supposedly you can also use this method to update the controller by having the cable plug into your controller from the gimbal, though i haven't had much luck with that method (possibly my own fault though)
Well I followed your instructions to the letter, eventually, I tried using a generic card reader and it wouldn't update the RC, I then dug out a micro USB adapter and it went like clockwork. Thanks again for the great video.
Another tip... after you erase the two/three files (.txt) from the mSD card BEFORE you eject the card empty the trash, otherwise that space on the card is still allocated to those two files. - Good video, thx.

Completed the Phantom 3 Professional Firmware update. Powered down the drone, removed the mini SD card, placed it in the card reader and put it back in USB port on computer. Checked the text file and showed Success. Deleted the text file, safely removed the usb adaptor from the computer and put it in the controller USB, powered up the controller and waited for tone to begin. It is now beeping once intermittently, but, red led is still on and continuing to beep once intermittently.
thanks for the video, i was over thinking it and trying to unstuff the bin and all that thanks for also having a mac! :) I'm now following for that reason, other demos are on PC (yuck right) just a tip for others i found you don't need a micro SD card reader at all. you can simply plug your drone right into your mac and drag and drop the folders from there simple as pie. eject from mac,(unplug usb) power off and it will begin update on power on. after the install is complete power off and back on, then plug the usb from the drone directly into the remote and wait, it will install the firmware like that to the remote, seemed to be much quicker drone-to-remote then sd card reader-to-remote. thanks for making the video man looking forward to watching your others

Hi Justin, I just got my DJI Pro 3 today and i was going to do all the update process and noticed that DJI has Released a 1.1.8V update for both the advanced and the Pro. Just to let you Know. Keep up the good videos.
Thanks Justin, very thorough explanation. (1) Typical of DJI to release a product that needs a firmware update right out of the box. (2) Foolish of them to make so much more complicated than doing firmware updates on the P2 (3) The 3DR Solo is supposed to update itself automatically. Hopefully this gives DJI sufficient competition to improve their next Phantom version. The "average joe" is NOT going to be able to do all this.
Lon Snyder there are a lot of people out there who do not want their drones to automatically update. - Many folks are against that auto-update. - Sometimes an update can cause a issue with the drone.
Thanks for the video. AF (auto focus) on your camera was going crazy during monitor capture. Suggest you set manual focus or get an app that allows for direct capture of video screen right on your computer.

Here's a tip if you got a new Phantom 3. You might have to turn off and back on couple of times until update starts. I just got mine, charged battery didn't even power aircraft on. Inserted microSD with firmware bin file, turned device on and it didn't start update process. I turned it off checked for result file, nothing. So I tried it again and this time it worked. So if you got brand new phantom, you'll need to power it up at least once before updating. I think this is because it creates directory structure on sd card first....

For everyone having red light and nothing happening when updating the RC to v.1.3.20 firmwere, USE A PENDRIVE instead of card reader, for some reason it works straight away. Hope this helps as I lost an afternoon trying to figure this out.

I think I have figured it out. Just do everything the app tells you to do. So if it say to have a look at the Dji Academy page, just do it. Then turn off the drone and remote, then turn on the remote then the drone, connect to the app and then it should prompt you to download the update. I can currently updating from my phone, so I am not 100% ready to fly, we will see.

Had a hard time getting the transmitter to update with the firmware. But leaving the microchip in the drone and using the usb chord between drone and remote worked perfectly... Another option if you find that update to be an issue.
Thanks for the video. I used it to update my Phantom 3 Advanced. However, the update for me only took 3 minutes. I got all the beeps you did. The front LED flashed back and forth red and green indicating it was updating. Then got the BEEE-B-B at the end indicating it was done. But yeah, only took 3 minutes tops. Always freaks me out when you hear it takes a certain amount of time to update something then does not for you.

You can also drag the bin file over to the drone by using the cable and the micro-ucb on the gimble
