I totally feel you with the therapy dilemma!! It's such a relief to know I'm not alone... I'm sorry you're going through this, but I commend you for seeking actual support and not just anyone who will take him. It's tough finding a person our child connects with. Once we do tho, it is so worth the wait once we do.My son is 6 with moderate autism & your son being a happy boy reminds me so much of my boy!! ❤ I too homeschool & we focus on life skills, we cook together, a lot of play & crafts. Don't feel rushed every moment counts. My son has phases of aggression also & can relate how you feel!! HANG IN THERE!!🤗 Christian is a happy lucky boy to have a great family!❤
Hello, my son is 16 now. When he started puberty around 14, he had not only the physical changes but behavior changes. The hormones made him change to aggressive behaviors. His father and I did not want to medicate him. So here in Texas it is legal to use medical cannabis to help with behaviors in autism. It was a trial and error process but thank God we found the combination and therapeutic dosage that works for him. Please be aware of this phase that all kids , typical or on the spectrum will go through. God bless 🙏🏽
May I ask how you redirect the aggression? My son is six, started a new school for grade 1. He's starting to pinch scratch and bite as well. It's so hard!! Breaks my heart. He's a sweet boy as well. Just looking for ways to help
It so hard to say exactly what helps. It depends on what is happening. Usually there are signs of frustration but sometimes there isn’t. When he is frustrated I use less spoken words and use gestures instead for him to follow like pointing or just guiding him where he needs to go. I make sure there is enough space between us and try to redirect him to his communication device so he can ask for break or snack or what ever it is he wants. Sometimes the answer is no tho so if that’s the case I guide him away from the thing he wants and give him options like toys, videos or sitting area to relax. Sometimes it’s unexplained and those are the worst 😰 I’ll try to make a video on it to better explain and hopefully find more answers to this question 😔
Can you do a video on why didn't you fight the school for an out of district placement?? Also what camera do you use?I can't believe he is taller than you. How old is he now?
To be honest I didn’t consider it and anything more than fighting during the IEP felt so overwhelming but now I’m regretting it because I feel like I would have to re enroll him give it a couple years then say it’s not working out ? He is 10 and I know it’s crazy he’s like 2 inches away from his dad!
I think the best way to view therapies is not one size fits all. I’ve been told aba is the only way and FCT is the only way and CBT but all of those may be great therapies that support many but it’s not the answer for everyone. Aba doesn’t have an end date per say but more so it’s modified to evolve as needed. The goal is to exit out of the services and thrive without additional support but not everyone can. Adults also get aba services centered around life skills. CBT may not work for kiddos with high needs that are nonverbal and have some learning impairments because it’s usually a form of talk therapy. Christian doesn’t just do aba he does a variety of therapies for different reasons to help with different aspects of life. Some may be perfectly fine with just one therapy but it’s best to find the one that’s right for yourself/child.
Please keep away from ABA, it’s cruel. What will benefit him and everyone in his life is teaching him to type, via FCT. My guy learned to type independently this way, and it transformed his life. Takes time to become independent but so worth it
Replying to boost. ABA traumatized one of my best friends so much that it was one of the primary reason he got diagnosed with PTSD. All because his parents wanted a “normal” kid and thought they could shave away little quirks in behavior.
So in terms of teaching communication, how is FCT different from aba? From what I’ve read FCT is another method within the field of ABA to teach communication. It’s not different from aba but taught and used within aba.
@@mshart-ke4in Then can you link online information on how its different? Or explain the actual differences then? I would like to know this for my own knowledge. The descriptions I am getting on my search are coupling FTC within ABA.
@@KeRRynoob fct stands for facilitated communication training. It solely teaches people to type with a lot of support in the early stages (if done correctly no risk of influence). My guy learned to type independently via this route. His meltdowns stopped and his crying spells stopped, both completely.
So nice to see you back! You’re doing well considering the changes you’ve been through.
Thank you!! 😊

I’m so happy I see most of us feel the same way about incorporating life skills as a form of homeschooling! ❤️
This is so relevant to us right now. Lots of changes with school, and ABA, and RBT’s… thank you so much for sharing this with us. ❤

Growing pains? Does your other kids have this too?
Yes drs say growing pains, just Christian gets them so far.
