You know... It still shocks me how the NFTs are the world's most persistent type of crypto scam ever devised. Like seriously, this stuff has a lot of shady stuff backing it up, up to and including people hijacking youtube accounts and social media profiles to promote NFT sales.
SO TRUE! It was revolutionary to me. It was nothing like I'd seen before and was very well made. I had a great time using it and I genuinely feel crushed that the game encountered a downfall such as this.
You know, when I was in digital media college, it was common to see big project pitches that became a very simple vertical slice for the grade. Except that if you pitch an online metaverse, the teachers would ask to see at least actual online multiplayer functionality, as basic as it could be. This would probably not get a passing grade depending on how nice the teachers were.

what is funny is that, ripping models from games to put them in other games has been a thing for years, it's called modding. If I make something in minecraft and minecraft servers get shut down, I can still host my own servers or play singleplayer. Non ownership is an artificial issue.
i have recieved several ads for this garbage game, and it sounds just extremely annoying. their ass is comparing themselves to roblox, mf atleast roblox makes their assets free. the sandbox also criticizes real coding and modelling and it sorta pisses me off because most likely "generating" events from words will break everything. the game is horrible. games and nfts dont mix
They don't have a billion dollars though. From what you showed that is just the market cap, there is probably very little actual liquidity. Trying to cash out will just crash the price and that market cap will disappear.
Right, and that same logic can be applied to pretty much any crypto when people say it's "worth $xxx". So certainly there would be not nearly enough liquidity to exit that position. However, and I should've included this in the video, they have actually raised a number well over $500M (as far as I could find, I'm sure they've received more in private funding) in cash, not crypto, from other investment firms such as SoftBank. So they might actually have access to almost $1B in real money in addition to whatever they can get for their funny money, which is even crazier to think about.
a little late, i know, but i think it's so funny how they advertise saying that roblox is clunky, and yet THAT is the best they can do with a soccer ball. genuinely i think that they will never surpass minecraft or roblox.
I was very suprised to hear youve only been making videos for a week. This video was really well made, and well edited. You sir have gained another subscriber
Great video. The Sandbox is bullshit from start to finish. It took me quite some time to come to this conclusion, even tough, it would have been an obvious thing right away. (south China morning post wtf...) They made some interesting promises that sounded very appealing, especially to creators. The only fun thing in The Sandbox is the game maker. It's their 'engine' required for building the worlds that should be accessible through the plots of land one day. It's a little bit like playing Lego and you can easily spend hours in it (ignoring the many glitches). Actually, it's not even an engine; it's more like a game itself created with Unity. However, stay away from this stuff people! Keep up the good work. Best, Ben
I have been following the Sandbox YT channel since The Sandbox Evolution (I have played this game on PC version since 2018, which it doesn't work anymore). Once I got notified on the new Sandbox game, I was upset and disappointed, because I noticed the game has been released as a NFT. I prefer playing The Sandbox Evolution, because I enjoyed this game, but they would never fix the issue of the game crash whenever I start building the world when it got an update, which is why it got negative reviews. It is a shame that this game was released as a NFT, which thank god I never played their poorly made game. Glad I found your game review, really well explained.
Something that stands out to me is how there's no like... graphical consistency. The smooth HUD (which takes up way too much of the screen and is very distracting, not to mention hard to read due to the translucent background) doesn't match the voxel pixel artstyle at all. It feels like they came from two different games entirely.
Yeah, it really seems like before they got taken over by Animoca they were actually doing something cool. Now the only thing that matters is money, money, money. What a shame.
NFTs, crypto, metaverse and all this crap should never be in a Videogame. If people like this BS, I’m ok with it, take all your money, put it in NFTs and crypto and get scammed. But don’t bother us videogamers. I cannot think of an NFT or metaverse without thinking is a scam or a ponzi scheme anymore… XD
And i like how to this day i am still getting ads about it where they are like "We all know how junky Roblox is" and they are being hypocritic when they say that💀
The fact that "The Sandbox" hired a roblox exploiter that is also a youtuber to shit on roblox, meanwhile expecting no criticism at all. The irony is in my veins right now.
Yep I saw that guy. He’s also giving people malware, all the links in his descriptions take you to websites that are filled with pop up ads and surveys and eventually once you get the software it’s just malware. Great reputation, sandbox!
Jauwn, thank you for memorializing this for humanity through your videos, this fad will pass and most people will forget these "games" and those behind them. Ever since I understood not only the environmental but also the criminal implications of NFTs/Crypto/Blockchain I always knew to avoid it and to speak out against it, but I never realized the depths of the grifting and scamming perpetrated by these "NFT firms" . It Contributes a lot to the videos that you discuss who is behind these scams.
I just saw an ad for this game, and the ad was interesting. I almost downloaded and played the game to give it a chance, but then I realized the site was so odd I had to get a second opinion. Good god im glad I didn't waste my time. thank you. NFT's are so irritating.
at 1:37, "the game being shut down" argument and toontown being shown at the same time is EXTREMELY ironic considering games like toontown rewritten, small jumpscare for me as a toontown fan tho
2:35 I used to think most voxel art styles were ugly for this reason as well, until I found out about the Voxel Doom mod. You would think making voxel models using the Doom character sprites as reference would create an incomprehensible mess, but since the mod disables shading on the voxels they actually work very effectively as 3D renditions of the original sprites. While I think the The Sandbox’s presentation is rotten and bland to its core, if they had disabled shading, chosen an alternate to tweening, and got rid of the godawful ambient occlusion the graphics would have been a smidge less ugly.
or do it like minecraft did if they want to destroy minecarft AND roblox then might as well copy some of those aspect or make something similar to those
if meta is gonna call themselves "meta" for going whole hog into VR, then they metaverse has to be VR/AR. Not just a digital game. The fact that crypto people have also taken this "meta" word is so stupid, all I can think of whenever I hear "meta" or "metaverse" is just corporations wanting to make a quick buck but it just happens to be technology related.
I think the only way for this to actually work is if they started with a player base and *somehow* managed to add in the NFT stuff without making the player base leave the game. At the very least its clearly impossible for this type of thing to work starting with all this NFT stuff, nobody will play it, everyone just speculates.
Anything that ever associates with nfts in even the slightest should be avoided at all times like the plague it is, there is no exception and not a single half decent thing has ever come from them since they were invented by that scammer.

Imagine you’re a small mobile game company doing perfectly well, then all of a sudden, another company swoops in, takes your game, and slaps pop-ups, crypto, and other garbage to the games you’ve made, causing the game to die and be passed aside. That’s not even funny, it’s just tragic.

The gist is, I couldn't find the song on shazam, soundhound, or a few sketchy thirdparty apps. Even with a longer version of the song pulled from a commentatorless playthrough of the world. Likely too little too late for folks curious but thought I'd throw in what I found for posterity. Love the videos, be them on these dumpster fires, or some old pc games. Diggles is a classic. A dumpster fire, but a classic. You captured its energy perfectly.
I don't have anything against a company that doesn't really believe in taking NFT seriously and is just doing it profit out of idiots who think NFT's are not a joke. In fact, scamming people who are into NFT's is a good thing.
To each their own, but the one thing I actually like about The Sandbox Metaverse is the art style. I personally love that extra blocky voxel style. I enjoy the game Staxel, which uses a much more pixellated voxel style which I'm a huge fan of and the SBM art style immediately reminded me of that. I was actually surprised when you said you hated the way it looked because I was immediately admiring the style. Just goes to show that everyone is different and has different taste in art.

The effort people put into building these worlds weirdly feels a lot sadder than the effort I put into my Minecraft and Terraria worlds that no one other than me has ever seen. lol
Speaking of Minecraft, I first found out about this game when Mojang announced they're banning 'eneftee' of Minecraft, a lot of cryptobros seething about it and started mentioning that 'game'. But yeah, I kept reminding myself that any games that has crypt0 currency in it are not real games. I am glad I never jumped into that craphole, despite those cryptobros said that 'I will missing out' or 'have fun staying poor.'
Your effort went into something that you can feel proud of. There's nothing sad about that.
i want to see them.
@@CrystalWings12'have fun staying poor' said by the guys throwing their money into something totally worthless, lol
@@KajuTheRudeMonke And now we're laughing at their lost, and it was worth it. Those cryptobros enefteebros deserves to be a lifetime laughing stock.
You know... It still shocks me how the NFTs are the world's most persistent type of crypto scam ever devised. Like seriously, this stuff has a lot of shady stuff backing it up, up to and including people hijacking youtube accounts and social media profiles to promote NFT sales.
what a shame that The Sandbox IP ended up in the hands to these fools. The original Sandbox game series was freaking amazing, actually saddening.
True, I loved the Pac-Man DLC on the second mobile game.
I had to work on some stuff for sandbox. I worked for a publishing company that had a deal with one of the companies featured on sandbox and we were trying to make a game for them to put on sandbox. That was like a year ago and from what I've heard (I quit) they since stopped doing an work for sandbox lol My company had me play some roblok for research and when I had to launch sandbox, I was just like "why not just play roblox?" There was NOTHING to do in sandbox. It's been in alpha for years, looks like nothing has changed.
Haha, thanks for sharing that story! Yeah it's hilarious how much nothing they've sold with this game. There's literally NOTHING to do but spend money.

i remember seeing a ad for this game once, actually being interested, learning that it was a NFT game, and never wanting to even hear about it anymore
I remember playing The Sandbox as a kid, it was pretty fun from what i remember. Not sure if that’s just nostalgia though, since the reviews on the PC Port are…not good. Sad to see it go like this though.
Some comments said the earlier versions were fun. Once Animoca bought them it was all downhill from there?
You got to go on the walk of a lifetime and collect a butterfly and you gave it a -16? Sad. This is why you can't get good info from the internet.
It's a shame that we're really close to not having any NFT games for him to review. They've been flogging the dead horse for a while, pretty soon it's going to the glue factory.
I love how Jauwn went from 65 subs to (as for today) almost 30K subs... excellent content, keep'em coming!!
Of course!
Holy shit, this is the people who made the sandbox games? Dude I loved those when I was younger, then they made an update or sequel and made everything shit and pay to win. Fucking wild seeing them here. Even back then I thought "they must be up to something shady", and hey, teenage me was right all along!

That's kind of annoying because I blocked ads for crypto on my channel, I guess they're allowed because they advertise under "gaming"
@@jauwn Exactly lol, they name it as "Game Maker" whereas it actually isn't working that way
@@jauwn That's strange, I get crypto ads every now and then on your videos, I suppose UA-cam doesn't give a shit anymore
They always mention that they will surpass roblox and minecraft. They keep mentioning it in the ads. EVEN CALLING ROBLOX STUDIO JANKY AND TRASH WHILE IN THE SANDBOX UR LITERALLY STUCK WITH 3D BLOCKS (roblox has meshes btw)
Funnily enough, I had 2 ads for sandbox when watching this video.
You're literally being paid by the very game you reviewed.
Gotta love the advertisment algorithm.
Isn't that awesome
Ha! I tried to play sandbox and when I had difficulties I started to search on youtube instead. Well here I am. Somehow with 1 Billion USD funding, NFTs and metaverse visions, they forgot how to actually make a game.
Somehow they're even less competent than modern AAA gaming
Once I wanted to play a metaverse game out of curiosity and I tried googling "how to play metaverse" and literally they wouldn't let me know how. Till this day I've no idea how to start one or login to metaverse xd
11 months later. Scam is still alive, and is now being advertised on youtube. Not to mention the current crackdown on adblock. So now the scam is being advertised at peek efficiency

Yes but that wasn't on the blockchain so did you really own your spot?

I remember when I was a kid, I found this site through an ad and I was so excited because I thought it would be a replacement for all the social games that have shut down over the years. I very quickly got disappointed when I found out you have to pay to actually play the game (I wasn't allowed to pay for games as a child). I'm glad I didn't have the access to paying for games back then because I sure would be the target audience for this.
A coworker had me go here to check out Snoop Dogg's area (as if Snoop Dogg actually was spending any time in there) and wanted to buy land and... The whole thing chugged like ass. Bear in mind I used a 970, but even if I had a 3080, I'd see similar results.
The irony of receiving an sanbox add before this video is amazing
even with how nfts and crypto are more dead than war veteran granny i still get shitty ads for this game, claiming its building tools are, ''better than roblox and minecraft'' and claiming you dont need to code to make games, but you need code to make proper games, and having no codes only limits the amount of stuff you can put in the game, and yet it still has ads like:
building in other metaverses: aaa poopoo coding aaaaaa stinky
building in the sandbox: WOOOOOW SO AWESOME DOGECOIN WOW SO AWESOME SO EASY IM GONNA BUST A NUT JUST FOR HOW GOOD BUILDING ON IT IS
love these videos, and it's so crazy to hear at the end that you almost have 100 subscribers looking at your channel now which, as of me writing this comment, has 72k subs less than a year later.
what is funny is that, ripping models from games to put them in other games has been a thing for years, it's called modding.
Seeing Atari having involvement here is kind of heartbreaking ngl.
a little late, i know, but i think it's so funny how they advertise saying that roblox is clunky, and yet THAT is the best they can do with a soccer ball. genuinely i think that they will never surpass minecraft or roblox.

I miss the old the sandbox before it became a stupid fing “meta”
Yeah, it really seems like before they got taken over by Animoca they were actually doing something cool. Now the only thing that matters is money, money, money. What a shame.

I cannot think of an NFT or metaverse without thinking is a scam or a ponzi scheme anymore… XD
And i like how to this day i am still getting ads about it where they are like "We all know how junky Roblox is" and they are being hypocritic when they say that💀
THE FACT THAT PORORO (a south korean kids tv show) OWNED A LAND IN THE SANDBOX

The fact that "The Sandbox" hired a roblox exploiter that is also a youtuber to shit on roblox, meanwhile expecting no criticism at all. The irony is in my veins right now.

I was incredibly curious about the song. I might be a masochist but I have my limits. Best I can tell without directly subjecting myselft to the sandbox, is it appears to be a song made specificly for the anicubeent themed kpop land? world? area. Whatever you call it. The gist is, I couldn't find the song on shazam, soundhound, or a few sketchy thirdparty apps. Even with a longer version of the song pulled from a commentatorless playthrough of the world.
