This was the response I received from the devs after they saw this review: "Hi there, We saw your review of our project, and we get that you may not love it, but it's still in the Alpha phase. Amazing. Truly. I suspect they might be dissapointed in your review.. Speaking of doing research, I wonder how much research they did on you before asking you to review their product!

It would seem that many "crypto content creators" did take the offer, as I saw a bunch of people praising the game on Twitter. Not sure how many of them even played the game though, since they all seem to have copy-pasted the same "review" and showed no gameplay footage of their own
Fun Fact: at 6:50, he says that the character Smiler is the only one with a unique design. Jauwn could release a 4 hour unedited playthrough of an nft game with no commentary and I’d still get excited like it’s Saturday morning cartoons. Keep up the great work❤
I remember finding this channel when it had 200 subs and commented on it blowing up due to the work and research in the vids. 4 months later and you're closing in on 100k soon. Keep up the good work
When will games realise you can't really buy yourself into becoming a esport? You need a good, well balanced game for that. Rather than throw money into these rewards they should invest it into developing the game and especially testing it to the valve testing standards.
I'm gonna add something to your comment. You don't need a good well balanced game. That helps, but what you need is a game people enjoy playing competitively. There's some massive esports that could be considered broken messes, yet because people want to play them, they make rules to make them more balanced just because of how much they wanna play and have fun. Way different than the people who made the game investing money in ads and events when they could use that to make the game in the first place
Just another way in which crypto games are aping the MOBA trend of yesteryears, so many tried to bill themselves as esports but nobody was interested, the market stagnated, and almost all of them died on the vine.
@@raghugba863 the balance is more so about mechanics than anything else tbh. The public comp can ban specific things from the game, but they wouldn't ban use of an entire mechanic

Obviously the crypto game deep dives are great. They're important debunking videos in the sense that they're well researched, on topic, and really goddamn engaging. You're legit doing important work here man.
When I first found your channel I was astounded by how high quality your videos are. I've binged your entire crypto series and it's what keeps me coming back. It feels like you've really found a core niche reviewing these garbage nft games. While any other gaming commentary youtuber can make retrospectives, the nft game reviews is something only you seem to be doing. Love your content, keep up the great work :)
Not a paying supporter, simply a subscriber: I'd like to see more crypto game reviews in the future. The "Worst NFT Game" series is what brought me to your channel originally. By the way, I love your surrealist intros.
I love them too making them is one of my favorite parts of doing these videos. I probably spend more time on them than most of these games spend making artwork
As a long time viewer, i love both the content on old niche games and crypto trash. You'd think the NFT content would be stale by now, but I've learned that all NFT games are the worst in their own unique way.
I'm surprised they haven't tried making an 8-Bit or 16-Bit game. It'd probably be easier to make, they could easily make new unique stuff to trick players into buying, and they might actually make something that isn't a dumpster fire. Instead, they make unremarkable shooter games.
@@larrymantic2635 It depends on how lazy and inept they are at it. I don't have any faith in their ability to do anything right, but this is the lowest bar they could potentially pass.
Even though nfts have decreased in popularity drastically over the last year, I think you're still doing good work and fighting the good fight. Do whatever you want in regards to creation, of course, but also consider that they're really funny.
The modern crypto gaming space is incredibly interesting/horrifying, so having someone willing to dig through the slop to see what is actually there is always appreciated. Reminds me of the days when everyone and their dog was making an mmorpg and I spent a lot of time in my youth getting my hands on all of the free to play ones to see what they were about.
So it finally happened. Jauwn has actually turned into Crypto Games best option to get exposure. Really taking the "Bad publicity is better than no publicity" to the extreme. I'm loving it
"Is this just some convoluted scam?" Yes, that's what crypto/nft games are, you have provided a wide array of evidence to support this on your channel.
Oh wish the people on my country could see through all these scam they are all easily baited by ton of trendy buzzword like Metaverse, NFT, and Cryptos
i enjoy the crypto deep dives because it covers games that i'll never see or touch in my entire life. i enjoy all of your content though so whatever kind of video you make is cool with me
Found your channel a couple weeks ago. Your content is all really good, crypto deep dive or otherwise. You're good at letting the game speak for itself, great balance of observational commentary, dry humour and sarcasm with actually just, letting whatever game you're discussing showcase its own nonsense and drag itself down without you needing to just rip into it for half an hour. Its worked really well not just for crypto games, but also janky bad old games or even janky good beloved ones like your Driver video. Its a good style and you're good at it with all your videos imo.
Love these deep dives! They are fantastic. I'm a gamedev and it's just funny to see deeper into all these crypto "Games" people said was gonna change the entire industry a few years ago haha. Love every video and hope to see more!
As much as I enjoy these teardown and expsing of cryptogames, I also immensely enjoy your retrogames retrospectives. Especially of those obscure gems or really janky ones. Sometimes it is easy to dismiss those games back in the day because of all the games surrounding it but when we look back on them, they were not as terrible as we first thought. Your videos really did well on highlighting them. Admittedly, the only positive I can give to these cryptogames is the fact that they lead me to discover you this gem of a channel. But if I was in a knifepoint and forced to choose, I would watch your retrospective series in a heartbeat.
Ive watched every video on your channel. All the stuff you make is great and the crypto stuff never gets old. Id love to see a follow up to some "popular games" youve already reviewed. Are they still around? Have they had any updates? Should i mortgage my kidneys to buy all the NFTs?
These deep dives are why I subscribed to your channel, the algorithm introduced me to your channel via some of your oldest stuff. You've come a long way, deary.
Yes will be great with real proofs, because 90% Web 3 games builds with Lyra assets but there are some games which build it from scratch not using Lyra assets, but if you dont have proofs that Citizen is build with lyra its not good that share this statements :) Cant wait for it let me know will be pleasure to check all your stuff about it
So i feel like you've already covered NFT games well and truly, thanks to you i can look at a game and see Lyra by eye now. Have you considered covering mobile games? i think it could be really fun to do a deep dive on all the weird fake game ads on twitter that community notes are always putting on blast. They call them "Non-core gameplay ads" supposedly - some years ago a journalist actually interviewed the guys in asia that make the fake mobile game ads, it is an extremely cursed. Literally this week i keep getting youtube ads for "hero wars" and one has a drowning dog being tortured, it truly is a strange and fascinating industry.
I think the best, simplest review you can give this game is; its not being sold in countries that regulate crypto. Something something nothing to hide, nothing to fear.
I really like the content focusing on older titles not commonly discussed in the modern day! I would love to see more of that content, however, I think the crypto content is more important to showcase how dogshit these games are, and can hopefully pull someone away from a bad investment. (also what editing software do you use)
We should start adding other unnecessay financial concepts into video games. Maybe life insurance policies, mortgage refinancing, payday loans, credit scores for buying gear
"We may have cancelled the game, making your NFTs completely useless, but at least you still ooooown them." :^) Truly, the future of empowering gamers with re-uncentralized democracy-ification.
Came for the crypto reviews but I've rewatched basically all of your content several times because its just that entertaining! Your editing style, humor, and pacing are top notch and I finally subscribed after your Driver video. Keep up the excellent work, anything you put out is sure to be gold!

any time a class-based shooter doesnt even bother making character designs look distinct at all it just makes me think about how much attention was put into the tf2 mercs' silhouettes
"The artwork is pretty to look at" is the summation of what hurts my soul seeing things like this. Someone out there worked hard to make the art. Then poor business, poor design, lack of quality control all kinda took that pretty art and made something not worth anyones time... it just kinda makes me sad.
The Lead game designer is wearing a samurai hoodie. that's cyberpunk 2077 merch. they probably genuinely were making a bad cyberpunk rip off before they changed their setting
It's so funny how their response is "It's from Scratch and not from Lyra" like we straight up aren't seeing a 1:1 video of them using Lyra's mechanics and animations. Also them boasting about people working on games such as Horizon, Mafia, or Arma doesn't do shit cause what the hell did they work on, concept ideas? If they really did work on successful franchises, they wouldn't be stupid enough to aide with idiotic things such as Crypto

When will games realise you can't really buy yourself into becoming a esport? You need a good, well balanced game for that. Rather than throw money into these rewards they should invest it into developing the game and especially testing it to the valve testing standards.
Yeah and this isn’t a crypto game problem - we’ve seen this happen with normal games too
I'm gonna add something to your comment.
@@raghugba863 I hate 6v6, I hate 6v6, I hate 6v6

Just another way in which crypto games are aping the MOBA trend of yesteryears, so many tried to bill themselves as esports but nobody was interested, the market stagnated, and almost all of them died on the vine.

Obviously the crypto game deep dives are great. They're important debunking videos in the sense that they're well researched, on topic, and really goddamn engaging.
You're legit doing important work here man.
I absolutely agree with your comment
When I first found your channel I was astounded by how high quality your videos are. I've binged your entire crypto series and it's what keeps me coming back. It feels like you've really found a core niche reviewing these garbage nft games. While any other gaming commentary youtuber can make retrospectives, the nft game reviews is something only you seem to be doing. Love your content, keep up the great work :)
Not a paying supporter, simply a subscriber:
I'd like to see more crypto game reviews in the future. The "Worst NFT Game" series is what brought me to your channel originally.
By the way, I love your surrealist intros.
I love them too making them is one of my favorite parts of doing these videos. I probably spend more time on them than most of these games spend making artwork
yeah great job on the intros @@jauwn
@jauwn you hate NFT games but you wanna be best Web3 influencer in polkastarter gam3 awards??? :D :D
My primary interest in the channel is the deep dive into crypto games- you are literally the only channel actually trying to show gameplay
As a long time viewer, i love both the content on old niche games and crypto trash.
You'd think the NFT content would be stale by now, but I've learned that all NFT games are the worst in their own unique way.
Exactly, I thought it would get boring to the point where I previously said I wasn’t doing these anymore but look where we are
I'm surprised they haven't tried making an 8-Bit or 16-Bit game. It'd probably be easier to make, they could easily make new unique stuff to trick players into buying, and they might actually make something that isn't a dumpster fire. Instead, they make unremarkable shooter games.

The modern crypto gaming space is incredibly interesting/horrifying, so having someone willing to dig through the slop to see what is actually there is always appreciated. your graphics and transitions have peaked bro, the chair intro was killin it
Wow! Now this is what I would call a top quality review.
Crazy new intro, Jauwn. Your craft only gets better with every upload. Love the videos!
You have such insanely good editing and your videos overall are so much fun. Its crazy how you don’t have more subscribers.
Ive watched every video on your channel. All the stuff you make is great and the crypto stuff never gets old. Id love to see a follow up to some "popular games" youve already reviewed. Are they still around? Have they had any updates? Should i mortgage my kidneys to buy all the NFTs?
I will be doing a follow up for my final video of the year!
These deep dives are why I subscribed to your channel, the algorithm introduced me to your channel via some of your oldest stuff. You've come a long way, deary.
“I mine as well do a video reviewing the Lyra template itself” I mean… I’d watch it
Yes will be great with real proofs, because 90% Web 3 games builds with Lyra assets but there are some games which build it from scratch not using Lyra assets, but if you dont have proofs that Citizen is build with lyra its not good that share this statements :) Cant wait for it let me know will be pleasure to check all your stuff about it

I enjoy the specific crypto reviews, but i also enjoy your other content. I'm just here to see what you make, keep up the good work man!
I like your essays on lesser known games AND your crypto game videos. Anything you do is cool ❤
I really like the content focusing on older titles not commonly discussed in the modern day! I would love to see more of that content, however, I think the crypto content is more important to showcase how dogshit these games are, and can hopefully pull someone away from a bad investment.
(also what editing software do you use)
DaVinci Resolve! The free version
These deep dives are what got me hooked on your channel. Great stuff.
I genuinely love all your intros! I can't think of how they wanted this to turn out 🤭
Not only did they try to make a Cyberpunk 2077 clone, they literally have a ripped model of a Shingen smart-SMG in their little opening ad.
Enjoying these videos very much, even though I couldn't care less about NFT games, just shows the state of Web3 pretty well.
We should start adding other unnecessay financial concepts into video games. Maybe life insurance policies, mortgage refinancing, payday loans, credit scores for buying gear
"We may have cancelled the game, making your NFTs completely useless, but at least you still ooooown them." :^)

"The artwork is pretty to look at" is the summation of what hurts my soul seeing things like this. Someone out there worked hard to make the art. Then poor business, poor design, lack of quality control all kinda took that pretty art and made something not worth anyones time... it just kinda makes me sad.
I think the chef's kiss moment was them using the exact same elimination text as Fortnite, which I assume comes stock with the Lyra asset pack.
