I built one of these about a year ago and same idea, had a lot of success with the white clouds. My next project is CPDs as they're in high demand in my area
Awesome, I'm glad to hear it! I can almost say with 100% certainty that this will work for CPD's as well. I breed lots of those and they sell like crazy. Good luck!!!
@@IndoorEcosystem I've never done blue eyes but I've used spawning mops before and you're right. That is a good amount of work! It's not so bad if you can sit down and get comfortable but it still takes a lot of time
@@sydneysangels I've been a bit lazy in my method i just take the mop out every 2 days and shake it into a jar of tank water quite vigourously. Then wait a week or so until i have a few free swimmers then tip them into a bigger container and leave them go from there. Not the most efficient but I've got around 50 CPDs and Blue-eyes on the go now. They are all mixed in with eachother but so far so good. Following your CPD raising methods works very well too so cheers for that.
@@IndoorEcosystem that method sounds good to me, I know everyone has their own methods so whatever works for you. I would like to breed blue eyes some day, they're beautiful
great idea! If I can get my hands on the materials will definitely try with my minnows, as at the moment the other fish are eating the eggs, and when I separate them all goes wrong. thank you
I have a very similar setup with some variations on the materials. Question for you: how long do you leave the mature fish for before moving them back to another tank? I am trying to breed zebra danios.
I move the mature fish once I'm fairly confident they have bred. If I don't actually see them breeding or notice the females' stomachs shrinking, I give them about a week and then move them. You'll have to let me know how that goes!
I don't see why not! I think Cory eggs can be sticky so I'm not sure if they'll make it through the grates or not but it's worth a try! The tetras will definitely work though
Yes that is exactly why! If the cut is too perfect, it is a real pain to get it in the tank. You are better off making it slightly smaller than the tank so it's not such a headache taking it in and out
I love the idea, but couldn't I just super clue a sheet of the mesh on so there's no sharp ends UNDER the crate I have Leopard & zebra danios & Cory catfish in a 75 gal.
Yeah you can totally do that! I would even try hot glue, it seems as though super glue doesn't want to bond plastic together sometimes! I'm sure that's a cool tank!
@@sydneysangels I'm working on it every week, Just trying to get the java ferns to grow in & jungle Val along with the water Wisteria, & pogo octopus plant's with the Amazon swords. I woke up to a tank load of cory catfish eggs on all 4 walls of my 75 gal aquarium which was a surprise they had so many so now I'm wondering if I leave them or try & let them be ?
Scrape them off with a razor blade and collect them before they get eaten. A breeder box would be great, but keep them safely separate with good water flow so they don’t mold. They’ll hatch in 5-12 days. Lots of videos on it. Good luck. I had a surprise batch, 45 survivors, sold them at 1”+ for C$5 each! Took about 2 months to raise.

Thank you! ☺️ Yeah I did! Meijer grocery store has cheap 5 and 10 gallon tanks that go on sale all the time in their pet section. They don't have a ton of fish stuff but the tanks are usually a good price. Otherwise I hold out until Petco has their big aquarium sales
Thanks for another dyi project, seems simple enough! Just FYI my fish are doing so much better, it was a trying last few months. I did take a step out of my comfort zone and purchased a little school of some beautiful CPD's! Would you go with this method or the container trap you made for these guys? I'm thinking the container since I already have them in a planted tank. Appreciate all your help!
I'm so happy to hear that! You could go either way, but the fact that they're in a planted tank makes me think the container would be a better option. You could also let them spawn naturally in your plants for about 3-4 days and then move them to another tank, you'd be amazed at how many fry you'll have swimming around in the first tank!
@@sydneysangels hmmm, I just may have to try that first and see what happens, I do not have a lot of plants in there but the ones I do I think would be great for them to spawn in. Thanks Dan!
I have a 5 gallon bowfront tank and a 40 gallon bowfront tank I think I will try this but leave extra plastic hanging over for the bow front Yes that will be easier to trim
Hmm I don't know for sure, I'll have to double-check next time I'm home (I'm at work right now). I can measure when I get home. If I forget please remind me. Thank you!
Nice solution, unfortunately "7 mesh" does not compute for me, other than i understand it have 7 holes per inch. Can you measure the holes? preferably in mm? thanks :)
Almost looks like an undergravel filter. I imagine adding a tube and an airline then using a second box at the outlet of that tube where the water is coming out will make collecting the eggs easy. And also easy clean up to boot.
Again, another awesome idea! I might have to try that when I have more time on my hands. If I do, I will definitely give you the credit you deserve. Let me know if you try it and how it works out for you!
Love this DIY idea, all these materials are accessible to me as I come from Australia. Definitely gonna give it a try.

I was curious as to the what the striped fish with the orange heads were on the bottom right of your thumb nail. Very striking.
Those are emerald rasbora! They are a beautiful nano fish!
Great idea. I’ve used marbles before, they work but are really hard to safely remove them from the tank without harming the eggs

Celestial Pearl Danios! Or a.k.a. Galaxy Rasbora

How expensive would making one for a 10g be? Need to know before I consider asking my dad lmao
C$22-30.
The light diffuser comes in 2’x4’ or 60x120cm sections so you will have lots of leftover and can make more, or a lid.
