It's insane how those tiny fish make a big tank like his 125g look do small. Usually It's when you put large fish in large tanks the tanks tend to appear to be smaller than they are. So It's very interesting to see that it can be the other way around as well!
It seemed like there was a mass infection from an exporter for CPDs a couple months ago. I ordered from a few sources and all similar symptom. A white internal growth but it was virtcal in the body. I ordered again after a couple months and now they seem healthy and stronger. A week and all still alive in QT.
Vendors tend to over crowd them in the bags. Not enough water per fish. Not enough oxygen in the bag. Delayed shipping causes the pH to drastically drop in the shipped water, and ammonia is extremely dangerous if the vendor has high pH water source. Some vendors just don't know how to adjust shipping methods to accommodate changes in weather.
I love Rummynosed Tetras. They are my favorite tetra. The 800 gallon is looking sweet. I can't wait to see it fully stocked with Rummynoses and Lady Bird.
I also had a bad Cardinal Tetra order recently. Half DOA most others died off in the first few days. It's a tough thing to go through as a newer hobbiest so it's nice to see that we all share similar struggles.
Yes yes yes. I'm so happy you are going with tons of small fish again, instead of the goldfish. It's not that goldfish are bad, but it made the 800 feel more like an indoor pond instead of an aquarium. I can't wait to see it.
I have been trying to buy rummy nose tetras ever since i got a bag of thirty DOA back in early march pre-covid. Now I know why every source has been sold out!!
General Cure is an ex girlfriend. API as an aquatic company is unreliable at best. They've been out of General cure and Erythromycin company wide for 6 months now. HALF A YEAR. That doesn't even factor in, that they continually raise the price, and will sell an API test kit to Amazon so cheap, that it's literally cheaper for me to go buy it on Amazon, than to buy it from any wholesaler. I then worked out a deal buy $1 cheaper than Amazon if I buy test kits by the pallet. They now have my order..... Guess what, they are out of stock as a company until when???? Perfect. Meanwhile they'll follow up with an email, how about they think I should bring on this new product no one wants, that we'll continually never keep in stock? Sounds great to me.
@@AquariumCoop Cory, I've watched and enjoyed your video on 'quarantine' meds - and I would absolutely love to buy from your store. But I live in another country where I can't buy from you and I can't get ahold of the rest of the trio either. :( What do you think of the seachem series? They are a little pricey here, but they are at least available
@@AquariumCoop Do you think prazi pro is better than general cure deworming wise? People on fishlore said general cure won't work and prazi is the only med that will.
I took a screenshot of your tank and counted your tetras. You have 568 in one and 342 in the other..... im joking. I did try this method but i stopped counting at 100.. lol
I thinks it’s gonna look super cool, similar concept as the 600 neons in the circular tank at Dallas Aquashella. Question. What lighting are you using to hit the substrate at 40” deep? Thanks much
Looking forward to seeing it!! The New England Aquarium has a smaller rummy nose exhibit where viewers can control what side the flow is coming from in the tank so you can see them school up against the current and there’s cool Val waving around in there too. Plus there’s a timer for the controls so people can’t over work the tetras alone day 😅 Pretty neat little setup though
I can’t wait to see Ladybird in there with all those tetras! Cory, I want to thank you again for turning me from a guy who adopted a goldfish to a full on addict. I have a question about tank size and stocking loads though as I research larger tanks. Sometimes it seems like tank size is suggested due to the size of the fish and sometimes I hear about the bio load. Bigger is always better but if you don’t have much space for large tanks, will more frequent water changes take care of the tank size issue- as long as it’s big enough for the fish to grow and be healthy of course. Thanks!!
I hope you get an answer from Cory and I'm not telling you wrong, but the short answer is yes. When it comes to size/bio-load, you CAN get away with "overstocking" by using more water changes. However, I wouldn't really recommend it... It sounds good on paper but "more frequent water changes" will wear you down in the long run. I have found that packing literally as many plants as possible in your tank will greatly increase the amount of bio-load you can handle as well as reduce the need for water changes. Either way, I would stay away from "overstocking" unless you're talking about more minor examples, e.g. 10-15% over the recommended stock levels, not 2-3 times what you should have in there.
Chad Windham thank you so much for this response. My tanks are heavily planted and well established. I’m just thinking of adding 6-8 white clouds in the mix. The plants and snails basically take care of most of the waste and my ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels are always around 0 (closer to 20 ppm nitrate). I only need to water change once a week. I think I’ll go ahead and try it and if it does seem overcrowded I can move them. Thanks!!!
WOW, that sux that you lost soo many in the second shipment. I have 50 rummynose tetra's here in my 4ft tank tank and I love the way they school together. They will look awesome in your 800g tank.
After working at a chain store and understanding shipping is a major plus as a hobbyist now. Im getting back into the hobby after a hiatus and found your videos so wonderful for all fish keepers at any stage. I’ve had tanks since I was 8 so it’s 30 years for me and SO much has changed! I remember starting out with internal filters where you had to mix the carbon and cotton and all that fun jazz.
If only all LFG treated their fish before selling them off. Love taking things out that bag at home and seeing ick, white fuzz, and obvious tail rot. I suck at spotting this before purchase :(
Bro you made a video how to take care of them and you didint even use the most obvious rule 1 inch =gallon bro you got over a thousand and your putting them in a 800 gallon 🤦♂️
How does he get so much air through the sponge filter without leakage? I have to dial the air back because it comes through the sponge. Do I just have the air stone too low in the filter?
Lucky for you, I filmed this exact video in these same tanks 2 days ago. It'll be out in about 3 weeks on how to run a sponge filter optimally in my opinion with lots of examples ;)
Which sand do you use? The Cemex stuff is discontinued so what do you use now? The darker particles in your sand make it look so much more natural than the pool filter stuff i use that's mostly light colored grains. Mine looks bleached and unnatural
Hmm, maybe for that second huge order, the supplier didn't have enough in stock, and had to source what he needed to fill you order, from a different supplier (or suppliers). That might explain the survival rate difference between orders.
I added general cure and my water turned hazy white. I tested my water and everything is in the safe zones, so is it from the meds. Its a 29gal tank I've been using for quarantine. Did a quarter water change and it still just as white. Added an extra filter, same. What could it be?
I've found a way to get male neons color fully going WITHOUT finding a rare female. Simply get a mirror on one side of the tank. Have the top part of the mirror against the tank but have the bottom of the mirror about 2 1/2" away from the tank. They start flashing because I assume they can't fully see the sex. Anyhow do that for a week and they are absolutely beautiful. Newish to the hobby and love your content.
Not sure how many watts but It's a standard 2 separate strips of 3 LED's that came with the tank. And generally the lights go off at 9 pm then I turn them back on 9-12 hours later the next morning. Couldn't help it and got a 55 gal the other day I'm now trying to establish. *Fingers crossed*
That is going to look amazing in the 800 gallon! Looking forward to seeing that completed. By the way Cory, I have a question for you. Off the top of your head, do you remember what the empty dry weight of the 800 gallon is? Just the bare tank, nothing else. Thank you in advance. Keep doing what your doing. Love the the knowledge and expertise you share.👍
So excited, I wouldn't mind putting them all together after quarantine because you can put your hand on your heart and say you've done your best for the fish over the course of a few months to try and secure their future.
A valuable perspective to share. An unknown X factor (weather conditions not considered by the buyer) can make a world of difference and result in ragging on the seller about something the seller really had no control over. Looking forward to watching them school in the bigger tank. Thanks.
Hey Cory I bought guppies from a local pet store and they are all muts with a few parents being cobras. I’m curious as how to price them. Without giving away what and how you price your mutts. How would you price them if your just beginning like me
My wife bough 50 pairs of cardinal tetras for her planted tank we thought kept in a Qurantine tank for few days but suddenly started become inactive and died next day already 7 died it’s the 2 day what should we do for the shock or stress during the transportation?
Makes sense, I had a 6 no problems at all introducing then I added another 4 from a new batch at my lfs. 2 died within 24 hours and all parameters were fine.
Will it work if I add 20 rummy nose tetra in my 60-gallon tank that only has 1 red tail shark? Will the red tail shark eat them? Can red tail shark even catch anyone of them?

Try a better vendor with a higher success rate.
When is the plant series with dean going to start?
Did they get moved?
Yeah I'm keen to see the finished aquarium with the Rummy nose in there? Any link to the vid?
Watching them in their "small" quarantine tanks was hypnotic. It's going to be stellar in the eight! I can't wait. 👍

Agree. Wish I had that much money to buy a large school of fish.
That is a tiny tank for tbat maby fish
I used to have 12 rummynose and 12 neons in the same tank.
The neons used to follow the schooling of the rummynose. Was so cool to watch.
Neons and rummynose together are so cool man
It's that second plant.... threw off everything!!! ;)
Gotta make sure there is only one plant in the 800 gallon!
😂
So this is why I can't get rummynose tetras locally...
Lol same here

Absolutely stunning fish! I love how tightly they school, it’s so soothing to watch. Good to know we aren’t the only ones in quarantine :)
I own five rummy nose and they are one of my favorite fish in my tank
Wow the 800 gallon looks amazing. Can't wait to see more.
Did you get rid of all the fish that used to in there? Tiger barbs, giraffe cats, the dojo and clown loaches?! I loved those tigers....
Corvus oscen had a big shoal of rummy nose
Thanks for sharing the “reality” of the hobby. Nobody is perfect.
Next 800 gallon 1200 Celestial Pearl Danios 😂
That's going to look incredible. Awesome setup 👍🏿👍🏿
Love rummy nose! I have a 40 breeder with 20 in the tank lots of movement! With my l184s seems to work.

Does anyone make a fish counter app? Take a picture and it counts?
Is it okay to keep them in 20 gallon Cubical tank ?
my rummynose get the worst amount of ick out of the lot of my fish
Totally something I'd do if I had an 800 gallon, a large school of small fish. Can't wait to see!
