- Hi all,
Recently in a Short video I showed you my new egg collector for breeding CPDs, Danios, Tetras and other egg scattering fish, and due to popular demand I thought I'd put together a how to video so anyone can do it.
As mentioned in the beginning of this video, huge shout out to Michael Khor for working through the ideas with me. Check out his channel here; • Easy CPD Breeding / E...

Blake, could I get those files? I'm interested in recreating this. And you said use PLA+ so the material doesn't break down?
For anyone interested, I am selling the 3D printed portions of this video on Etsy www.etsy.com/au/listing/1032820391/blakes-aquatics-3d-prints-for-aquariums👍 good luck!
You gotta love a guy that has a drill on his table !
I'm subscribing *right now.*
🤣🤣 cheers mate
Wonderful idea!! Since I don't have ready access to a printer, I'm thinking of some types of plastic soap dishes with the little slotted trays. Two carefully cut and glued together might equal the same footprint as yours. (I can get them at our "Dollar Store".) Thank you for your great ideas and designs, Blake!
Sounds great! Im certain theres tonnes of options in dollar stores, hardware store and the rest
Such a great system. Thanks for showing us the build bud.
that's a great DIY project 😀 thanks for upload
Very cool idea! I just bred my CPDs but would love to try this cool little contraption out!
Thanks for this DIY!
That is a great idea Blake glad I found the vid.
This is certainly worth trying. I use the plate method before but never think of putting airlift in there. I think while using no airlift is also fantastic for simplicity and just take the whole contraption to check eggs, adding some suction would definately help in reducing eaten eggs. Ive watch some eggs float quite a bit and get eaten.
great method blake
Love it man! Imma give it a try at some time
Awesome video, Blake! I have a breeding group of Choprae Danios that I’m hoping to breed. I will have to try this method out👍😄
Really cool stuff Blake!! Sorry, I've gotten behind on watching videos. Life has gotten so busy!! Also I've got to get my account fixed to where my memberships aren't stopped every month where I have to redo them!! You know how much I love you and how much I love Blake's Aquatics!! Thanks for sharing my friend I hope you're having a blessed day!!🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
Thanks Mary, no problem at all. I understand that 👍
Super cool ❤
Great vid blake . Awesome idea too . I was trying to find the 3d printing file ?
Great video Blake. And appreciate the credit :-). Certainly prettier than my version. lol
Always mate, rightly so. Been really enjoying chatting ideas with you 👍
I also love your videos
Cutting edge!
crafty thanks thanks im gonna do this soon
Good luck 👌
Awesome video Blake!
would be super grateful if you can share the 3d printing plan 🤙
Chuck me an email mate
Great! You might use a hot knife, too, to cut pieces, pipes etc.
Nice Blake. 10:58 left bottom corner.
👀 well spotted 👍
👍
Thanks for the great idea. Do you know which tetra eggs are non adhesive?
Its such a broad thing you are better off searching individual fish. Danios, barbs etc are mostly non adhesive tetras and rasboras adhesive
Blake - in the good ol' USA here. Any change you have a way to get the 3D print boxes out this way? Love the concept and I like the design.
Hi John,
Unfortunately not at this stage. Maybe in the future but I have too much on at the moment to figure it all out.
Hey Blake! You know me and DIY lol!
Oh yeah im certain you could do a nice acrylic version
could you make movie of other fish that breed with this egg harvester? so far ive used it on CPDs and its really effective, but now i want to try different spicies
Sure, any egg scatterers. Most barbs, tetras, danios will use it
@@BlakesAquatics ill try it on my Hyphessobrycon amandae, hopefully they will use it ;)
Have you had issues with cpds being able to swim through the grates that you made into the collecting container?
Nah the gap is too small
@@BlakesAquatics Good to know, thank you.
Brilliant! For those of us that do have access to a 3d printer, where can we find the files?
Email me at blakesaquatics@gmail.com and ill send the STL through 👍
@@BlakesAquatics Hi mate! i wrote you an email, i am so interested in the files, i like so much your method!
Which tetras one could breed with this clever method?
Neon, kerri, columbian, congo and many others
@@BlakesAquatics thank you 🤗
Hi Blake. What hatching rate do you get and how do you set up the hatching tank?
I start them in hang on breeder boxes and get probably 80% to 90% hatch rate
awesome egg catcher. much better than the cut bottle
Wow I really want to try it. Too bad I don’t have any egg scattering fish and my mum has put her foot down so no more tanks. If she didn’t I’d probably fail uni let’s be honest lmao
Don't tell your mother 😏
@10:58, fry in the bottom left corner!
Good eye!
can i use this for my dwarf rasbora? i know they are not egg scatterer they are a egg layerer...
Nah youll need a spawning mop for that
A basket from an unused canister filter could be used similarly...hmmm
I have some shrimps in my tank. Would this be alright to use? some shrimps might get through
Shrimps do get through some of mine fine but they do eat the eggs I find
If I want to buy a setup for CPDs, what do you recommend? I am not much on DIY projects lol
Take a look at my new upload
What is the multi-tool you are using?
Hey Kevin, its just called a ryobi one+ 18v multitool, brand name shouldnt matte though, dremel will also work
Hi, any chance I can have the file to print one off? Can’t find anything similar available in the UK
Hi James, I do ship them to the UK
@@BlakesAquatics yeah saw your later vid and already purchased the other week. Hopefully get delivered in the next week going by the tracking.
You should try to make this a commercial product. This could make good money.
Cheers
How much to have some printed up and sent out
ill send you a dm mate
I asked my fish a lot of eggs, but the hatching rate is less than 5%, why is that, how to incubate the eggs? thank
Getting fungus or just turning white?
@@BlakesAquatics Some mushrooms and some turn white, the rate of 100 eggs hatching is about 5 to 6? What are the conditions for incubating eggs?
@@dientrung9948 same as the parameters to keep the fish. Ph 6.5 to 7.5, 2-10 dkh hardness, 73 to 79 f/ 22 to 26c temp. Main things with hatching eggs is you need flow over them to keep them moving to hatch them
If anyone with a 3d printer is going to make these can you please tag me, I would like 3-4
I can make some chuck me a dm
@@BlakesAquatics I didn't know UA-cam had DMs...how do I do it mate?
Oh nah it doesnt unfortunately.. instagram, facebook, discord and twitter links in the description
Hey mate, would these be a nice desktop fish for my office when I'm trading crypto currency's?
Maybe look in to getting a doge to sit at your feet instead
@@BlakesAquatics 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@BlakesAquatics why not both?
I would do a black water , 20 gallon long , no plants , no lights , no filter and a school of ~10 Jack Roberts Tetras , line the bottom with peat and dried leaves
