@Militaryarmschannel Tim, in the first video you have put CLP on the piston rod, which very firmly discouraged in the PWS manual. The use of lubrication on the pistod assembly may cause to excessive fouling, creating almost a concrete-like buildup on the piston. This may lead to reliability issues!
time stamp?
@@Prodigysportsman you’ll have to check his first PWS test video.
Interesting, I’ve heard that you want to lubricate any piston driven weapon on the piston area to prevent fouling; CLP or break free CLP doesn’t do that?
PWS rifles have always ran well in my experience 🇺🇸
Mrgunsngear Channel yea, us too. Great rifles for us...
Can vouch. I'm approaching 5K rounds with my mk116 mod 2-m, and I shit you not, I've only had one malfunction, and it was a failure to eject with wolf steel case.
I have had PWS rifles before they had adjustable gas piston systems with some teething issues but no other issues. Love their rifles especially shooting suppressed.
He lubed the op rod. He caused the malfunction as well
Your probly not using the settings correctly or dont have the correct spring and buffer people always blame the brand.
Great video. I have a PWS MK116 Pro with over 2500 rounds through it without being cleaned. Runs 100% all the time. When the grip gets hot I switch to the BCM vertical grip. Keep the great videos coming. Thanks
Your not supposed to lube the gas piston. It creates a thick film that will harden with propellant and heat. And it will cause the piston to stick. Keep the op rod tube and op rod dry to keep hard deposits from forming
Pws specifically stated dont lube the op rod. Read your manual. It creates a concrete like film when lube is mixed with that much heat and propellant mixed together
Does that happen on AKs also?
Dan AKs don’t need lube just spit on it....
@@ReverendMeat51 it's recommended that you not live the piston on an AK or any other piston driven gun.
WiffleballTony How is not needing oil a design flaw. If it needed a ton of oil you would probly bitch too. Your just a negative Nancy
Oh shit I'm out of oil. Wait never mind I dont need it for my PWS. Stick to your $400 PSA since you know so much
Finally, decent view from behind Tim out toward the targets..great change of pace! REACTIVE is the ONLY way to go..
I have 2 pws MK-111’s one mod 1 in 223 and one mod 2 in 7.62x39. Love them. The 7.62x39 needs cleaned a little more often then the 223 but I shoot them 100% suppressed and I think the cheap 7.62x39 Ammo I shoot is a big part of that. I’ve went over 2500 rounds suppressed with the 223 gun without hiccup. Only cleaned it cause I started using it at my bedside!
I have the mk214 the mk220 and the mk116 and they’re all amazing!! Super well built and extremely accurate... at least more accurate than I am. Definitely have to clean that gas tube with a 40 mm brush, every time you clean the rifle though. I’ve had my bolt stick because of buildup in the gas tube
Double taps for the win!!! Glad to see you actually polishing sum targets this time.. A Marine behind one of those freedom sticks is a thing to behold!
An affordable gas piston rifle. I've owned 2 of these. Love em
This makes me want to get my Sig 516 out again , I enjoy the piston AR dead reliable weapon
I've been waiting for the Bcm test also...Great vid ...
Same
True tht..
Thank you Tim . You can fill that shooting bag with beans and cook them wile shooting because the fore ends do get HOT. May I suggest " GOYA "- I here they are pretty good when slow cooked !
Great Video.
The only thing that ever breaks (or weakens) on gas piston upper (98% of the time) I have owned a CMMG, an LMT , an ADAMS and my Buddy's LWRC and POF. the extractor loses its springiness ot resistance and/or ,it actually breaks. We upgraded to the Stoner HD. On in case the a spent primer fell into the trigger housing. It was an interesting repair. The LMT had issues with the buffer so we swapped it out for a lighter one. The ADAMS/Sig was almost identical to the HK MR556 in design.
How many rounds before extractor failure?
Good video Tim!
Thanks for shooting the steel, we can hear the hits😊!
Thanks Tim, it's a hard job but someone has to do it. LOL. Maybe try reinserting the same batteries a couple times between mags on the next run to see if you can reproduce the earlier issues with the Steiner. Got a 2nd gen Vortex UH-1 on the way myself, looking forward to running it through it's paces.
Oh nice. These vids are great
Same thing happened with my sig romeo5 (the 3rd one I bought). Not sure why, but reseating the battery 3 times did the trick. Shock from gun fire seems to have solved the issue of electrical contacts inside...
My PWS just had the bolt lock forward for the first time ever this week. Pretty much identical to what happened to Tim just now. Once it broke free there were no problems, but still...
Your not supposed to put oil on the op rod on any piston gun. Create hard deposits from extreme heat and oil and burnt powder soot mixed together. Dry piston and rod off and clean piston tube and keep the piston and rod dry as you re install it
Preston Graham no oil was applied to the piston:)
@@Thee.flyingg.pigg24 was it pre lubed
No part 3 yet?? Lov your videos!
Haven’t heard much about your CCW pistol lately, you still prefer the CZ or is there another CCW that won #1 spot?
It would be interesting see this done with the cherrybalmz lube as it doesnt run off or burn off like CLP tends to do especially with DI rifles.
Looks like it's off to a good start with this rifle. I forgot you were even doing an endurance test on this piston gun. Good that the RDS started working again. Let's see if it holds up.
I would put a Trijicon on it like I did with my PWS. Never a problem!!!!
Look at all that reloadable brass on the ground around there. What I wouldn't do to get there with my rake and shovel. Lol be nice to have that sotto g around waiting for bullets and powder. Thanks for tye vids guys keep up the good work.
Hey Tim would you be able to run this kind of test with the mcx virtus patrol people claim it can 20000 rounds before something goes wrong?
Any AR can do that, just going to need a new bcg around the halfway mark since every gun is over gassed for reliability
Duracell is the way to go on batteries. I’ve had terrible luck with energizers going dead way before they should have.
I had an eotech that did a similar thing. The sight would only work with brand new batteries for a mag or 2 then it would die
Could you do a forearm heat test, comparing fancy hsld free-float aluminum forearms to a standard issue A2 style, double heat shield forearm? That would be really informative
What’s with the difference in shot sound? First test with thirty round magazines.
But what about the BCM longevity test
There's no ammo lol.
Yeah he should finish that before starting another one. It's not surprising it make it to 10k, he needs to go until failure
Yeah I've been waiting on that I picked up a BCM recce 16 kmr I'm interested to see how far his goes
It's up next.
Truth be told, I want to see a PSA, we know the expensive shit is going to do well most of the time...
Will we get the tear down of this and the bcm when they fail? Also when is the next bcm vid coming?
Tim, granted I can’t see all the brass but looks over gassed. Have you tried turning the gas setting down?
aww the sound of freedom!!!!!!!!
So glad your doing a Mod1 I have a Mk111 mod1 upper coming in to pair with my Nomad
Mod 1 came with a keymod hand guard. Thats a mod 2
You sir are incorrect
pluto321 not true. The Mod1 uses a more standard upper receiver with a forwards assist and a slightly different rail than the Mod2. The Mod1-M and Mod2-M are the MLok variants
@@passngas2 Cool. I bought my mod1 and it has a key mod hand guard. I just thought all mod1's had only key mod
Tim have you ever tested the IWI Zion-15 ?
It’s takes about 5 minutes to know if you don’t like a product Tim 😂
I dont know bout that. Ive been on the fence over some products for decades.
NeDeS I think they may mean Tim himself lol he always find the lemons and all that- if not I stand corrected :)
How could the piston keep the charging hangle/carrier from moving? Isnt the piston and rid independent of the carrier on the pws gas pistin design? Im thinking something adhering or binding the carrier to the piston rod or the causing the bolt and or carrier to bind.
Nope, it’s a long stroke system, the carrier, rod, and piston are all connected
I love my PWS MK116 AR-15
Same
Isn't it about time for the continuous BCM AR15 endurance test?
What ever happened to the BCM test? Is that finished?
Any update on this and the BCM endurance test?
Are there going to be any handgun Gauntlet tests this year? I know the ammo is a little easier to get than .223...At any rate, thanks for the awesome content!
His content is strictly long guns now since UA-cam hit him with a strike hes got to stick it to the man. Forget about your subscribers who built and supported this channel for years. I have been asking for gauntlet test going on 2 years now and nothing. This channel is trash and so is Tactical Tim.
@@theone031 what brings you to his channel if you dislike him so much? I do not know him, I'm just a subscriber that enjoys the work he does.
@@stefanmolnapor910 I was a subscriber to him many many years ago until his content changed. You would know that if you had been around back then. It's very different now. I just stick around hoping he would go back to the old Tim but evidently hes butthurt because UA-cam demonetized him. Nothing but ARs and Tactical stuff now. Look at his old videos. He reviewed handguns, shotguns, old military rifles, ammunition, torture test etc... catch my drift?
@@theone031 I must be missing something, I do watch his older videos. you are correct, I have not been around for more than a few years, but I guess I'm missing something as I still enjoy all his videos. Sorry for your loss.
18:35 I saw your sunglasses bouncing across the table. You only get one set of eyes. Protect them.
He's addressed this numerous times. They fog up on him. I have the same issue, I have yet to find a pair of safety glasses or goggles that don't fog up after 2 or 3 rounds getting behind a a rifle, I guess its my breath coming back off of the cheekweld. Idk. I don't see the point.
I wear corrective lenses normally anyways but every single time I shoot prone or off a bench, FOG.
So is it safe to say if I buy another bcg/piston I should be good for lifetime and more
Is the bcm test still being run?
MAC, I have 2 of the PWS Mod 2, they do stick like that as well in mine. My theory is that piston head upfront is what’s sticking to the piston. Unless weight of the long stroke rod is settling weird on barrel extension.
Clean and dry your Piston, rod . And the inside of the piston tube. No lube on the piston or rod or inside piston tube. This is pretty much a general rule through all piston guns. Clean out piston system and keep it dry and will run for thousands of rounds
*dry as in no oil
What happened to the BCM endurance test ???
Funny! I have a $39 Center Point dot that has worked flawlessly over hundreds of rounds. :p
I've read that the in-line battery mount can cause problems with spring compression under recoil over time. Is this a real issue?
Yes, we constantly sent our 512 optics to eotech For repair. They were on full auto colts though. Probably a non issue on a civilian rifle that will never see the volume of fire a military or LEO rifle will. Early model Vortex strikefires has this issue as well.
Sometimes people make brands look bad on accident. He didnt read his manual no lube on the op rod or piston
@WiffleballTony how is something not needed to be lubed a design flaw?
WiffleballTony How so?
I never lubed the op rod on my AK either, why would you?
@WiffleballTony how is the need to do nothing a design flaw?
What not needing oil is a stupid design flaw?? You obviously dont know much about heat and oil. Hk 416 dont get oil either those must be junk too
Like other piston AR's, I assume the piston (unlike AK's) is not part of the BCG. If that is the case, sticking in the piston cup or anywhere in the piston system would not affect travel of the BCG or the charging handle. Maybe I missed that episode?
The PWS uses an AK-like long strong piston system, not short stroke
Matt M thanks Matt! Obviously I missed that episode.
what happened to the BCM?
The first part of this video is Mac trying to get a $600 optic to work as well as a $60 Truglo
@WiffleballTony its a known fact that likes on the Gram tighten your groups and lowers your split times
What do you want to bet the leads in that optic are super sensitive... I know my piece of crap Romeo1 has to have the cat tightened just the right amount. Too much and it never turns on. Not enough and it'll only turn on until you fire the first round.
As far as the bcg being stuck; the barrel extension could be slightly clocked or the bolt may be out of spec.
Yep.. they warrantied mine. Had the same problem. The bolt timing was actually off.
I’ve also had mine do that. My mod 2 hasn’t yet
Mac how do you like the compensator/ flash hider on this rifle?
I’ve been wondering about it as well.
Will you do a review on the Steiner optic?
I think during the course of this testing a review of the sight will be included.
So I bought a MK114 mod 2. I am getting some drag marks from the cam pin on the upper receiver and it’s snappy on the recoil. Does anyone else have the same problem? Side note if I turn the gas over to a different position it won’t cycle even with green tip.
The POF roller cam pin seems to be a good fix for the cam pin drag.
Dam Tim, what did you do to Piss Off the AR Gods.....I thought i had bad luck.
WOO HOO!!!
My Mk116 has seized up like this as well. I have a Mod 2 Mk111 and that has not happened on it.
I emailed Pws years ago and I can’t remember what they said. I just hit it with a mallet Lol.
Mine too. Makes me not want to trust it
Just watched gun busters ak103 shoot 1400 + full auto
I have a mk1 mod1 it has a key mod rail
red dot should have etched dot to make them still usable even if something goes wrong with the battery
Then you would not be able to sight it in right? Scopes are a bit different when it comes to etched recticles.
Prism sights use etched reticles. Holographic and red dot sights do not.
@@mikewilliams719 ok now i understand...prism sights are what i want
You need to get out there and hit range with a weed eater or a brush hog, Tim. Range needs maintenance🍻
I have to clean and redesign my range too
Yes it gets uncomfortably hot pretty fast
Can't browse on BDU
What about BMC test????
Mounting a red dot like its a scope lol.
what kind of ear protection is that ?
3M Peltor Comtacs
I would call the stiff charging handle bolt issue a failure
Why ?
WiffleballTony
Racking a stiff charge handle is not a failure. Maybe a nuisance, but not a failure
He lubed the op rod and piston on previous video. You dont Lube the piston or rod in piston guns. He caused the malfunction him self.
I had a stag 8 and the piston seized in it after sitting in the safe. Was able to free it with few taps of punch and mallet. I have several pws rifles and have not had any issues with them.
11:25 I really do not understand the current trend for ever thinner rails.
They cool off faster and are lighter, I have a lot of quad rails including the BCM QRF and DD RIS, they take a little longer to get hot but they also stay hot for longer periods of time. You're going to end up in a similar situation regardless if you don't have a VFG or some type of rail covers.
If you'd like to send the other Steiner to a good cause, I know where it could go... ;)
I just want to buy all your brass to make 300blk lol can't find any
Wait, what happened to the BCM?
In another comment he said it's up NEXT!!!!🖒🖒🖒🖒🇺🇸
7:12 -was there a round in the chamber that extracted? Weird.
no, it comes from the top of the cameras perspective not the bolt. Porbably a bug or leaf.
ɥsɐɹʇ ʍolǝq- good catch! I see it now.
Anybody ever do some naked commando rolls in the front yard with a tac vest on ???? just to keep the neighbors from coming over and drinking yore beer ???
Have you been spying on me?
Wait, 2000 hours of battery life out of two huge AAs? How did that happen? It's not a holographic site.
Sorry Im a DI guy...... why fuck with perfection? Eugenes design is the best BY FAR!!!!
Whats crazy is your bolt was stuck and so was the other guys on here doing a review on this upper. It kept sticking and he had to mortar it to get it out and couldnt figure out why.
In other words, the Steiner red dot fuckin blows haha noted, I'll stick with everything else
Look at all that brass there just begging to be reloaded!
Sweeeeet!
I only use home depot rayovac bedt there is
The fact that you're willing to show to the viewers any flaws that you find in the products used in your videos , even high end named products like Steiner, proves to me that you're not a pitch man for the gun industry and that your evaluations can be trusted.
What’s up with the BCM?? Lol
I would use lithium primary (non-rechargable 1.5V) batteries instead of those alkaleaks.
Michael Cox I’ve never had that happen.... unless I have put a dead piece of kit aside,... and forgotten it for a couple of years. This is pretty much a non issue at the moment. The non rechargeable lithium batteries are not very good for low draw purposes because they have proved to have a relatively short in-use life.
Must be those Chinese made steiner knockoffs
Unless the Chinese infiltrated Steiner that's not likely.
Had a pws but had a bad experience with the customer service department and sold it.
You had a bad experience with PWS customer service? That's unusual.
@Charles Lindberg how long ago was this?
@Military Arms Channel If you don't adjust the gas setting often the fouling will lock that adjustable piece in place, been there done that. When the piston starts to bend and the fouling starts to lock things up the flare of a PWS piston AR gets really dull. The way it's designed doesn't allow any user serviceability, it's not a correct piston AR in my mind, only half way. They should have designed the whole thing to work like a proper AK bolt not half ass it with a tiny piston shaft that bends and has multiple pieces and the ultra fouling adjustable gas block made me run away from my $1100 investment.
I had a pws mk110. Had. It constantly short stroked. Adjusted the gas. Nothing. Swapped buffers. Still ran like junk. Was not reliable for range work let alone duty use.
Probably the sight had a glitch and need a cold boot (complete power off in pc terms) by pulling the batteries.
I wouldn't think a red dot runs software.
@@sogerc1 Who said anything about software?
@@ig33ku Well when did you have to reboot your doorbell the last time? Only stuff running some sort of software needs reboots.
@@sogerc1 Oh boy people know how to read like first there is no reboot in my post. I said cold boot which mean to complete remove all power from the equipment in other words removing the power source in other words taking out the batteries in case the red dot was sipping power from it to hold it setting like dot choice and brightness.
And yes the red dot runs on software it is called the logic chip and pressing sometimes a combination of buttons and a power spike or drop (maybe due to bad batteries or battery connection by bad connect) can confuse the logic chip for displaying the dot.
@@ig33ku That's the same thing I was saying. And that shouldn't be happening, for example a microwave is a lot more complicated and the ones I've seen run just fine. There's no point in arguing what exactly counts as software but I've never seen a "confused" red dot; not that I'm a big red dot expert. What I've seen is chips behaving strangely when the voltage they got from their battery was too low, but you'd expect more from a red dot.
I think I'll stick with EOTECH
7:12 minutes in, when you pulled the charging handle back something flew out of the injection port. What was it?
I think something blew out of the tree at the same time, just a coincidence but good eyes.
@@jeanniebuchholz9923 Thanks
Jeannie Buchholz yep, something from the trees
RIP FRANK DESOMMA.......LOVE TO SEE THIS TEST WITH A POF USA REVOLUTION.
@John Stone yeah few weeks ago he got in a car accident on his way home from work. And did not make it. Really quite sad to have such a brilliant guy be taken like that.
Every time he fired I heard Cha-ching cha-ching.

You have oil on your piston
