    The one thing the PWS has over other piston ARs or DI is that it is damn near impossible to get a brass over bolt malfunction since the piston occupies that space. Which imo is the malfunction that takes the most time to remedy outside of a catastrophic failure.

    Regarding the 11.8” barrel length, I read somewhere that the 11.8” barrel length comes from a length restriction in Europe that limits the barrel length to 30cm. Love the content almost as much as my Mk111 Mod2.

    Dial the gas to two, it’ll feel like a BB gun when it recoils. Shooting on 1 will cause premature parts wear if shooting suppressed.
    11.85 was chosen because they had a certain velocity that they wanted to keep at 300 meters and that was the shortest length that’ll provide that velocity- iirc.
    The balance is superior to every other AR piston gun.
    I sold my LWRC’s and only run PWS now. It is a superior system.

    • @1AbominAble1
      @1AbominAble1 Рік тому +2

      If it’s good ammo you should be able to run it on setting 3, using the least amount of gas. Some steel core will run in that setting but if you start getting short stroking of the BCG then bump it up to setting 2. The chances of needing setting 1 are highly unlikely. Good luck to you.

    • @rcreech5112
      @rcreech5112 10 місяців тому +2

      Yes, on more than one rifle. It will show up in the first couple hundred rounds but it doesn’t get any worse after that. I was concerned about it when I saw it on the first one but the gun runs, never jams, and like I said, it hasn’t become any worse after that initial break in. Odd? I never noticed it on a DI gun, so yes. Problem? I don’t think so. Could it stress someone out who wants there gun to look new forever? Absolutely. Does it seem to have an effect on performance? Not so far. I’m 5 rifles and 6 uppers in with PWS, I have nothing but positive results so far. For the sale price on uppers right now I wouldn’t think twice about making the jump into getting one.

    Finest Gas Piston design AR platform on the market. I've been running them for years. I enjoy their hardware so much that I've incorporated the MOD2 lowers on multiple builds and used their sister company Bootleg Inc's impingement version of the upper and handguards. Sadly their original skeletonized upper and handguard are no longer available. I just used my last set on a build with a Ballistic Advantage "Hanson" profile barrel. It's very accurate and runs like a swiss watch.

    Setting 1: If you are not using a suppressor, setting 1 is recommended with all types of factory ammunition and in all conditions for maximum reliability.
    Setting 2: When running Setting 3, if your firearm feels sluggish or stops functioning reliably, try setting 2. Many modern
    suppressors have lower back pressure and require this setting to function reliably.
    Setting 3: When using a suppressor,
    we suggest setting 3

    Piston Guns are quieter at the shooters ear and for anyone behind the gun. Secondly, they disperse excess gas forward of the hand guard or front underneath them, making it a much less gassy experience. These are big time selling points that no one grasps…….unless they shoot suppressed. Great video.

      @@elitetrader5468 I must say, that the point I made is hard to prove. Over the last year I’ve shot a variety of piston guns. From The MCX, multiple Sig 516’s and one LMT. There are too many factors. I can no longer objectively and honestly say that piston guns are quieter. Some guns are quieter suppressed than other for a variety of factors including, buffer weights, suppression, suppression settings etc. Much respect @elitetrader.

    After having a superlative arms jam and bend the oprod affectively riveting the gun shut. No more oprod AR’s for me. PWS is amazing gas adjustments are stellar. Their Gun coatings out of this world. You don’t even need clp to clean this thing. And the first thing I noticed even on a 7 inch gun was it is ridiculously quiet and lastly, heat mitigation is beyond expectation.

  • @Johnblaze678
    @Johnblaze678 2 роки тому +25

    Since the CGS Helios QD was designed to reduce back pressure considerably, that's why setting 1 works best for you. Most standard suppressors have more back pressure and require setting 2 or setting 3. Other suppressors like the OSS would also require setting 1 to run reliably due to low back pressure design.

    @jwmeitzler2671 2 роки тому +4

    Excellent review. The only thing that I would add is that all the parts that make up the bolt such as the extractor, ejector, firing pin, are standard AR parts. You can even use a standard AR bolt it will work, I have done it.
    The bolt carrier is proprietary but how often would you destroy a bolt carrier? The only problem with AR carriers for the most part would be broken gas rings that score the inside of the carrier or loose tolerances that affect the gas flow.
    You have none of that with the PWS system.
    The most problems that I have seen with over 50 years of working on ARs for customers as well as police agencies are gas rings, which the PWS does not have, chipped firing pin tips, and extractor and ejector springs. All of those parts are interchangeable between the AR and the PWS.

Personally I wanted the mk2 for its sexy looks! As far as extra parts I would order a replacement bolt and the spring that is on the bolt. The bolt on the pws is spring assisted due to it not having gas rings. If you have the chance to see one in person definitely check one out. You can't truly appreciate how nice they are until you see one in person. The action is so smooth it's like it's on ball bearings.

I then bought a MK107 SBR and a MK111 SBR, so long ago, that my rails are Pic-Mod (picatinny/keymod) rather than Pic-Lok. Since I shoot longguns left-handed, I love the fact that the lowers are ambi and that there is no forward assist for me to bend back and break my long and luxurious fingernails on when I rack the Radian charging handle with my right hand. I bought a PWS Mk116 Mod1 completed upper as my first rifle and paired it with SilencerCo SCO15 lower.
    Im about 1000 rounds into it and the gun shoots like an absolute dream, I run it on gas position 2 shooting Winchester M855 or PMC Xtac 556 and it cycles flawlessly and also is even easier to shoot than position 1.
    One other thing that I think you guys missed, most if not all pws guns are 223 Wylde chamber - so you can shoot 223 and 556 and not have the accuracy issues that you tend to get shootjng 223 out of a 556. Another neat "quality of life" feature that pws really loads up on despite a very reasonable price tag.
    I'm sure at some point Ill get a standard DI AR to complement this one with, but I like it so much it'll definitely be my go to.
    PWS also makes piston AR10s and I'm seriously considering one of those as well given how much benefit the long stroke offers.

    My Experience:
    1. I know the guys on Spokane’s SWAT team like PWS, their guns live in their cars, and Spokane is a cold(ish) town.
    2. The recoil of PWS isn’t snappy, but it is sloshey. Feels a lot like a SCAR 16 to me.
    3. PWS runs much cleaner than MCXs and they are miles and miles cleaner DI guns.

    PWS 11.8 in 762×39(upper on your lower of choice) may (in my humble 55yr. old lifetime shooter opinion) be the best urban combat/car gun you could invest in. I prefer 20rnd. Duramags; never fail or jam. Lastly: depending on ammo,you can dial down the gas for a smoother recoil impulse.

    People that complain about proprietary parts are the same guys that shoot 200 rounds a year. It will take them 75 years to break a part on average. As a 1500 round per month shooter I haven’t managed to break anything on my HK MR556, LMT MARS-L MRP 556, DD 300 blackout and many other guns not a damn thing has even coughed much less needed to be replaced. Just buy what you want then run it. Also to people complaining about gun prices, the guns are the cheap part. It’s the ammo that it costs to break it that is expensive. Quit bitching and get out there and shoot.

    I've found in my limited testing that using airborn automotive or piston aircraft oil works very well as gun lube especially in low temp conditions. Aircraft oil actually has a theoretically better temp handling characteristics since airplanes operate in such a wide range of conditions but you're talking negligible improvement but it's there 😂

    The PWS “Ratchet” receiver extension. They always loosen up with normal use (DI) ARs. Once you tighten that thing down the pawl that holds the castle but in place deforms providing minimal tension and doesn’t “ratchet” at all.

    I like piston and DI AR's and as long as you're taking requests, I think you guys should really try to get some LMT content on here. I think the PWS is pretty sweet but I definitely think the LMT piston models are the best piston driven AR's in the business, but I realize they cost at least $1000 more than this gun. I think their DI guns which are the closest competitors to a Knight's are overall better than Knights. LMT is just an amazing brand. Karl Lewis, the godfather of the MK18, is a genius. And they just released a sub-gun which is piston driven like the MPX, and I'd really love to see if either the MPX or new LMT Mars-9 will shame those blowback B&T's you guys love so much :)

      I hear you but at the same time it's just like KAC, part of the fun is the exclusivity. BCM, DD, and Geissele are all doing a good job putting out great AR's to keep the shelves stocked, but if you want an LMT or KAC you gotta know what you want and put in the work or the time waiting. It would be nice if they could double the production capacity as long as they don't lose one bit of quality and QC.

    Hey 1911 syndicate talking about a 7.3 inch gun running 556 for law enforcement and not getting to good of ballistics, we'll that's true you are losing but companies especially hornady makes a 556 load specific to very short barrels like 8 inch too the 11.5 sbr guns for law enforcement. It's called HORNADY TAP fpd and hornady tap SBR. THEY MAKE IT IN 55 GR AND 75 GRAIN. Hornady made these just for the sole purpose of law enforcement running and gunning with super short bois in 556 223.. maybe get some to test out. So instead of the typical 1800 2000 fps. You'll get a higher average like 5 hundred more fps. That's just a rough estimate of data. But check it out I would love to see what you guys think of it. I'll help out and send a couple boxes

    I think you guys are trippin' over this "proprietary" parts. But how often do you have to have to replace an adjustable gas block or bolt?
    Trigger, controls, stock, grip, almost everything is milspec back compatible!
    I have a PWS MK114 mod2 and MK111 PRO. These eat ANY ammo, super accurate, and don't rust. I love the nitride finish on the barrel. I love how you can adjust the gas for suppressor, yet don't have to. It eats up any ammo, with or without a Can, and runs super clean inside. Super lightweight AR15, same advantages of a HK416 at a fraction of the price. I love the aesthetics of the Mk1 Mod2. The more I learn about PWS, the more I love their design. Everything is engineered to perfection. Better steel buffer, ambi controls, better recoil impulse, better MLOK mounts, and handguard is easy to remove.
    Now I can't wait to buy a MK109 and Mk107 too!
