Very nice...I have a 1998 2WD Ranger, I will convert to EV when I have saved up the $'s. I wonder why not install the batteries in-between the chassis rails below the truck bed. You must have your reasons.
For the brake vac pump, you could use a vacuum tank and vac sensor or regulator, something that sense the vacuum. The idea is to "fill the tank" with the desire vacuum every time the vac drops under a certain value, so the pump is activated at those specific moments, not all the time.
Great Job. What are the Truck's specs? Controller, battery pack voltage/capacity, Range, Speed, Charger. In any case, you can get more power and range if you replace that heavy flywheel for an aluminum couterpart or make that lighter in the machine shop.
Yes, I have to agree with you 100%. The Truck no longer needs the Ring Gear, and (just the removal of that) would make a huge difference. Turning the o/d of the Flywheel - down to the bare minimum where the Pressure Plate Assembly attaches around the Flywheel. The take-offs will be instantly much quicker from the Lights, but (much worse than this) is the wasted Battery Power. Each time that you slow down, stop, or speed-up again, the Flywheel Mass has a resistance to motion. Lightening this Flywheel Mass will definitely increase the Trucks' Range.
Awesome. Suuuuuper clean way to go with the oversize toolbox in the cut-out bed. Thanks for including so much detail in the video. Looking forward to more. Also, for vac pump I like the Leeds brand, very quiet. Summit sells them.
I saw a video of a guy who converted a s10 to electric. Long before lithium batteries were popular, he used lead acid which had to double the weight of the truck. Anyways, he built battery boxes that were mounted between the frame rails of the truck. Personally, in my opinion, that is a better way of doing it due to a lower center of gravity, and it will aid in keeping the cells cooler during the summer when it sits in the sun. Also, this would allow you to add more cells and increase the overall capacity of the truck. Say you keep the same series packs but add additional parallel packs to increase the overall capacity. Yes, these are 250ah packs, but how much further can you go if you had say, 6s 4p packs? That would be over a 1000 ah of capacity. Something to consider guys!!!
My son loved this music, he would listen to it to go to sleep...he was 7 years old. Nintendo 64 was his favorite. On the other hand, I am not 7 years old, in fact I was about 40 when he was playing video games. So why the childish music? Not bad muted.
The thing about having the batteries in the tool box is you definitely need to have extra ventilation because those batteries can get extremely hot, especially inside of a toolbox with the summer sun heating it up the whole time
omg look how much room there is in the engine compartment compared to the 2002 4 cylinder Ranger I am shocked! time 1:18 The adapter plate is never available from 3rd parties, the battery cooling system is not required if you used lead plate batteries. What did you do for A/C and brake hydraulic power? This is a conversion that only an electrician can do.
Oh thank God, I clicked because I was worried he had grown a brain tumor or something else that turned him into a mindless EV zombie. Coal power by proxy.
Love this shit❤❤Have you tried any other vehicles? Saw an Exterra done …but like your better did the clutch system give u alil more speed? Ive only done my bike for now lol…amazing work guys 👍👊👊✌️
Add a gas generator for extended range and see how many MPG you can get. The generator should be powerful enough to recharge the batteries and keep the car moving at the same time.
I'm curious about gear changes. Do you operate the clutch and change gears as normal, or can you leave the car in, say, 3rd or 4th gear without worrying about changing gears?
I still use the clutch. I still need to use all the gears, however I can use 2nd coming off the line but it's slow. Using the cutch at a stop is optional since there is no way to stall the electric motor.
Make the ranger more reliable: replace the ICE drive train with an EV drive train. lol (we had a company w/ a fleet of rangers - all of which had a ridiculous amount of engine and/or transmission problems - we ended up getting rid of the whole lot after only about a year of service ~ 90-100K miles on each).
If you are going to put in that much time, money and labor, why not go get a brushless motor. Seems like there are NIssan Leaf motors in junk yards and Tesla motors out there. I guess the brush motor would be OK for around town for 20 miles, but there's no regen braking. I guess the budget is what it is. Electric trucks are super fun to drive. It will be great.
NackDSP, there's still no comparison to the bang you get from a buck of series-wound DC motor. My Ghia has 340 kW of power at less cost than a salvaged LEAF-based build. But you're right,,, no regen. I had to really upgrade the brakes!
In the eighties I was a fleet mechanic and the DOE hired our company to test a dozen converted ranger two wheel drive pickups with twenty deep cycle lead acid batteries. It had a small gasoline fired heater. Four speed twenty mile range. Got to start somewhere
Cool concept... but honestly the absolute worst background music on UA-cam ever. I had to mute it, OMG. Thanks for the video part of the production, though.
Ford made an EV Ranger 98' _ 2002'. Ford Ranger EV_wiki. I first saw one years ago at an EV show and recently saw one at an auction. Some have been modified to provide over a 200-mile range using 104 Lithium Iron Phosphate cells of 230 Ah. Original cost $52,720.00.
This makes me happy. Something I could do. Cheap enough to be economical to build.
No need for super high tech. Just make it work.
This was an awesome build and video to watch. Thanks for the motivation
Bro. This is awesome. I’ve been trying to find more videos like this. Keep us posted!
Bro you are a genius
Guys of high culture. NICE project & video.
The amount of joy I got when Tokyo drift came on…😊

You guys are great. I have a nice 1994 Ford Ranger. Eventually I want to do this. Gas prices go up. Thank you for your video. Top notch work you did.

Yup.. connect the pump to a reservoir before going to the brake booster.
Hell yeah! great build! Im thinking about doing this to my 02 ranger at some point :)
This was incredible to watch

Amazing build and video. Respect
Boards of Canada on the soundtrack? Nice!

Hell yeah, I want all the details to help with my 87ranger4x4...
Great project! Also, good choice of music :).
nice to see a zill ain here, those are super rare nowadays and worth a fortune too!!
That right there is the coolest truck on earth.
My son loved this music, he would listen to it to go to sleep...he was 7 years old. Nintendo 64 was his favorite. On the other hand, I am not 7 years old, in fact I was about 40 when he was playing video games. So why the childish music?

Great build. can't wait to see finished product.
great job! I've been thinking about doing this to my Ranger. $$$$

Lithium ion batteries in a vehicle really need a full water cooling system and radiator to be reliable and safe.
omg look how much room there is in the engine compartment compared to the 2002 4 cylinder Ranger

Nice build! Looks like fun to drive. . .
I was horrified when I saw Scotty in the thumbnail, EV-hater that he is...
He can hate however he likes as long as he waves his hands and starts soft yelling like he always does.
Gem of a UA-camr and crazy uncle of us all
Oh thank God, I clicked because I was worried he had grown a brain tumor or something else that turned him into a mindless EV zombie.
Coal power by proxy.
love the super Mario 64 water music intro
Love this shit❤❤Have you tried any other vehicles? Saw an Exterra done …but like your better did the clutch system give u alil more speed? Ive only done my bike for now lol…amazing work guys 👍👊👊✌️
You can remove the ring gear from the flywheel
Me gustó su trabajo felicidades
really cool man
Outstanding. I wish I had what it takes to do this. I am a start but wont finish type of guy.
Awesome! Install a solar system to charge it and you got cheap miles for life ! Be great for running around town, to work
Excelente video.
Super....super......Succes in tute le projecte

Awesome build!
Have been thinking it would be cool to do to my 94 ranger. What is the total cost on this build - parts only?
I'm curious about gear changes. Do you operate the clutch and change gears as normal, or can you leave the car in, say, 3rd or 4th gear without worrying about changing gears?
I still use the clutch. I still need to use all the gears, however I can use 2nd coming off the line but it's slow. Using the cutch at a stop is optional since there is no way to stall the electric motor.
Beautiful. I wish I have the money and more important the knowledge to do such a great work..
Great video!
Great work!
Scotty started doing ev conversion, never too late 😂

Last song is so funny 😅
Only question is can I buy it,?
Add Solar Panels to charge while driving or parked
There are few new conversion videos these days
Nice! How much bitcoin does a conversion like this cost?

Agreed, certainly a mistake in retrospect but budget was a big factor and the motor/controller basically fell into our lap.
Cool build! Is there an email you take questions with? Building a 1993 Ford Explorer E.V.
What does a swap like this cost?
I would love to get help building my ranger.
Cool
11:56 con una música super parecida a la del Itaú 😅😂😂
That's what I'm gonna do with my Cadillac escalade ext
I have an 86 bronco 2 do you have and advise or any suggestions on doing this since they share the same body just short of the bed.
How much did the parts cost to convert this truck? (Minus the cost of the truck)
How many miles can you go on your batteries
Way cool!!
Do you do work for other people?
33kw?? where you gonna go one side of town to the other side?
why are you not just removing the transmission? why the extra complexity?
How to add a functional heater and A/C ???
Cost of the parts?
❤
😊
What’s the range like on it?
Dudes being dudes. 👏
What seria el costo total thank
music from super mario 64 1996
What about the transmission?
It ended up being a lot of trouble... We took it out and had it rebuilt. Next video coming soon...
