Building an Electric Ford Ranger
More information can be found on my website.

Thanks for watching! Building this truck was a huge undertaking, but it was something I have always wanted to do. It took about Three months of planning in my spare time, and then Three weeks working every day to build it. Everything we could think of was designed and planned in advance in order make the build go as smooth as possible. The vehicle cost around ~15k to build, and a lot of parts were bought second hand for a vast discount.
This video is primarily for entertainment and would not serve as a good guide. A lot of the struggles and "teachable moments" were cut out of the video for brevity. :)

Thanks to my friends who helped compose music and record footage. The board is based around a Teensy 3.5. FL Studio was used to generate the MIDI signals. More information on my website: blackmetalforest.com/index.php?title=MIDI_Machine
The Toledo Hauler moves through Corvallis, Oregon
Переглядів 1,5 тис.10 років тому
The "Toledo Hauler", a regular freight train that goes from Toledo to Albany. Here it is seen through the Oregon State University campus and Town of Corvallis. I caught it at 4:00 waiting before the first crossing, presumably waiting for the tracks to clear later down the line or for class to be in session because it moved on at 4:30. Today the lineup is the mean-horned "Clatskanie" 3002 with h...
Desktop CNC - Cutting Aluminum

Learn more at: slavestoaramok.blogspot.com/2014/05/desktop-cnc.html. Cutting an aluminum plate for a terminal box. It takes about an hour go through drawing, setup, cutting, and cleaning. The time lapse was of a later version where a smaller bit was used for all the holes.
Good stuff, but how about insurance?
Awesome! Install a solar system to charge it and you got cheap miles for life ! Be great for running around town, to work
😮😮😮😮😮
What does a swap like this cost?
😊
nice to see a zill ain here, those are super rare nowadays and worth a fortune too!!
11:56 con una música super parecida a la del Itaú 😅😂😂
Excelente video.
I'm curious about gear changes. Do you operate the clutch and change gears as normal, or can you leave the car in, say, 3rd or 4th gear without worrying about changing gears?
I still use the clutch. I still need to use all the gears, however I can use 2nd coming off the line but it's slow. Using the cutch at a stop is optional since there is no way to stall the electric motor.

Ion care bout the vid I just saw lain and clicked
music from super mario 64 1996
You guys are great. I have a nice 1994 Ford Ranger. Eventually I want to do this. Gas prices go up. Thank you for your video. Top notch work you did.
I went to OSU from 2016-2021. I rode my bike everywhere, class, gym, library, work, store, covered bridge, Avery park; and partied too much and tried to figure out life. The pandemic shut everything down in March, 2019. I remember leaving the lab where I worked at Nash hall and I wouldn’t be back for two years when everything changed. I had to move back home to Portland after graduation. Life went from “normal” to what it is now, which feels very not normal and I often can’t make sense of it; and/or the only reasons that make sense are usually ugly or hurtful. Life has been hard on my heart. I just woke up to a train going by. It was so loud and clear. When I was in the library at OSU the train horns would echo around the ceiling of the the ‘rotunda,’ a tall round room and it sounded like music. I love this train, I lived on 8th street and I would run 2 blocks down Van Buren to watch it go by the police station and be amazed at how large it was. It rattled the windows and I could hear it go all the way through town until I couldn’t keep up with it and it would rattle on just like the end of the video. Thank you for posting this video 9 years ago I’m so glad I found that beauty again.
Cool
oml pc cooling system lol
Could do without the f bomb spider comments.
MLG
Doing gods work.
That right there is the coolest truck on earth.
omg look how much room there is in the engine compartment compared to the 2002 4 cylinder Ranger I am shocked! time 1:18 The adapter plate is never available from 3rd parties, the battery cooling system is not required if you used lead plate batteries. What did you do for A/C and brake hydraulic power? This is a conversion that only an electrician can do.
My son loved this music, he would listen to it to go to sleep...he was 7 years old. Nintendo 64 was his favorite. On the other hand, I am not 7 years old, in fact I was about 40 when he was playing video games. So why the childish music? Not bad muted.
Love this shit❤❤Have you tried any other vehicles? Saw an Exterra done …but like your better did the clutch system give u alil more speed? Ive only done my bike for now lol…amazing work guys 👍👊👊✌️
Scotty started doing ev conversion, never too late 😂
This makes me happy. Something I could do. Cheap enough to be economical to build. No need for super high tech. Just make it work.
Last song is so funny 😅
Super....super......Succes in tute le projecte
Amazing build and video. Respect
I saw a video of a guy who converted a s10 to electric. Long before lithium batteries were popular, he used lead acid which had to double the weight of the truck. Anyways, he built battery boxes that were mounted between the frame rails of the truck. Personally, in my opinion, that is a better way of doing it due to a lower center of gravity, and it will aid in keeping the cells cooler during the summer when it sits in the sun. Also, this would allow you to add more cells and increase the overall capacity of the truck. Say you keep the same series packs but add additional parallel packs to increase the overall capacity. Yes, these are 250ah packs, but how much further can you go if you had say, 6s 4p packs? That would be over a 1000 ah of capacity. Something to consider guys!!!
Great project! Also, good choice of music :).
is that one of the songs from super mario 64?!?!!?
Boards of Canada on the soundtrack? Nice!
This was incredible to watch
This was an awesome build and video to watch. Thanks for the motivation
Add a gas generator for extended range and see how many MPG you can get. The generator should be powerful enough to recharge the batteries and keep the car moving at the same time.
Shouldnt have used Scottys face . Just be real with your content
Decades ago (in the middle part of the previous century!) I was a student at OSU and lived in Cauthorn Hall. Across a large empty field were the tracks where the Toledo Hauler ran nd I'd watch it go by from time to time! Was it steam powered then?? I just don't remember!
why are you not just removing the transmission? why the extra complexity?
33kw?? where you gonna go one side of town to the other side?
The thing about having the batteries in the tool box is you definitely need to have extra ventilation because those batteries can get extremely hot, especially inside of a toolbox with the summer sun heating it up the whole time
Lithium ion batteries in a vehicle really need a full water cooling system and radiator to be reliable and safe.
In the eighties I was a fleet mechanic and the DOE hired our company to test a dozen converted ranger two wheel drive pickups with twenty deep cycle lead acid batteries. It had a small gasoline fired heater. Four speed twenty mile range. Got to start somewhere
I am using your eggs for Grandmas dinner. She loves Loco-Moco which is hamburger patty on top of rice with fried egg and gravy hey xez
Do you do work for other people?
No AC, No Power Steering, No ABS, no thanks.
0:00 bro used the im blue sound effect
really cool man
Wanted to see the conversion not listen to MUSIC?
does Scotty Kilmer authorized you to use his face on this video's thumbnail?
