  • White Sugar Sponge Cake | Chinese Honeycomb Cake | Made with white rice and white sugar using instant yeast method. This is a vegan, gluten free, eggless Dim Sum, Asian dessert recipe. Perfect for breakfast or dim sum for whole family.
    Round mould 7" x 1"
    Ingredients 材料:
    50 g white rice (cooked, cold) 白饭(冷)
    70 g sugar 白糖
    300 ml water (room temperature) 清水(室温)
    150 g rice flour (Rice 100%) 粘米粉(大米100%)
    1 tsp instant yeast 速发酵母
    Steam over high heat for 20 minutes
    大火蒸20分钟

    Lovely recipe !!We prepare similar kind in India. But, instead of water we add coconut milk. We call it "Vattayappam". Thank you for sharing your recipe. 👍

      We make it in Assam too. We call it pitha. I forgot the exact name. we dont use coconut milk but coconut scraps

    In my country we also have this recipe. The only difference is we are using coconut milk as liquid substance for the mixture instead of water and the outcome is very delicious

    We have a similar rice cake called mkate wa sinia or mkate wa kumimina but we use thick coconut milk. It is delicious.

    my God!!!! This is called vattappam in my land ( kerala ,India) same way of making while in some parts toddy is used instead of yeast.

    Hi it's yummy in Kenya coast, we cook like that but instead of water we add coconut milk and cardamon powder, we don't steam we bake it, sooo tasty 😋😋😋

    This is similar to our kokni dish called sandan .but we add coconut milk in it . We make this sandan for every Eid

      Yes , same with me. So my sister said the water we boiled it with pandan leafs and sugar. Beforw we blend it.😊

    U can try this recepie in kerala nadan chicken curry or beef curry it's excellent taste .🤤🤤🤤🤤u can use instead of yeast powder coconut water.

      Yeast is a must for this recipe as fermenting it longer like for idli or thosa will make this dish taste very sour. You can add more sugar if you like it sweet.

    1:27 add yeast to rice batter stir well.Cover plastic and first proof at current room temperature 31 C (1:54 ) for 1 hour ,
    2:34 fill the round 7” x. 1 “ mould with rice mixture & rest 15 minutes
    2:49 prepare steamer
    3:26 After second proofing 15 minutes 3:35 steam high heat 20 minute
