The video may have been from their performance on Top of the Pops (more or less a British version of American Bandstand), but the audio was from the studio version of the song. That's why the background vocals are so tight, why they have that effect (a chorus or a flanger), and why it sounds like there are two guitars even though that's all Brian May.
Considering that your standard promotional music video then would be a band either playing live, or miming a performance to a studio track like this, anyway (though there was some straying from that formula here and there), a TOTP performance may as well be used. :D
This was their first big hit. Top of the pops was a televised top 40 tv show in the UK. The lyrics are very tongue in cheek. Freddie had naturally waving hair. Freddie only wore black nail polish on one hand. Brian wore white on one hand too.
If you want to hear Queen at their eargasmic super stereo trippiest, I'd recommend a little known song called "Faery Fellers Master Stroke" off Queen II.
This is such a great song, and I believe their first charted song besides Seven Seas of Rhye. Freddie wrote it about a high priced call girl. But you are so right when you said it sounded kinda like pop and yet had great Rock elements. It was so unusual for the time. Freddie and Roger ran a clothing booth, Roger said they were ripping off people. This is before Queen. But Freddie found the most unique items to wear. Everything he wore in his 20 year career was unforgettable!! Great reaction! Please do White Queen at the Rainbow and if you want to hear live lyrics that will blow your mind, you must do Somebody To Love, live at the 1981 Montreal Concert! Every song there was epic!! "Freddie and Roger ran a clothing booth" never heard that before. Where did you get that? I think it's totally false as it wouldn't make sense at all. Roger, together with May were already performing, then they met Freddie and founded Queen (and took on Deacon at bass). So what you're saying, they just casually ran a clothing booth beside it. BULLSHIT buddy.
@@flybeep1661 LOL, actually, it's true. There's even a funny story either Roger or Brian (can't remember which, but I think it was Brian) tells about when Freddie and Roger were running the shop: Freddie had gone across the street for a cup of coffee or something one day. Before he left the shop, he made the mistake of taking off his jacket and hanging it on one of the racks. When he came back, Roger had sold it, LOL! He said Freddie went running out into the street, caught up to the guy who'd bought it, ripped it off him, saying "Give me back my jacket!" and gave him his money back. They ran the shop for just a short while, after Freddie had gotten to know Brian and Roger through being friends with Tim Staffell, Smile's lead singer. It was called 'glam rock' glam being short for glamour, a lot for British rock bands in the 1970's blurred the line between male and female appearance, with clothes and make up, David Bowie would be a good example, another would be Marc Bolan, lead singer of 'T Rex '. Top of the Pops was a weekly British music show, televised live, with bands in the studio, an audience and showcasing the latest bands and singers in the top 40 UK selling records, it was watched by millions every week. I queued many many times outside the BBC Television studios in west London to get a free ticket and was lucky enough to see all of the above perform........:-)

Yes, Freddie definitely broke all the rules, lived the way he wanted to live. He said "f*#K it" and did! lol Unfortunately, it led to his death, but what a legacy and he lived his life more fully than many who live much longer who don't really live their lives. RIP Freddie - thank you for the music. We can only imagine what you would've kept on creating! :)
@@darlahays2471 As good as explanation as any. The white side / black side Queen II, probably came after. I expect Fred's black nails came first. Brian's next. And the album followed that established pattern.

I'm not much of a Queen fan but I do like "The show must go on" Preferably a cover from one of the America got Talent episodes or shows, heavily covered. but is one of Freddie's best before he passed away. It is definitely about the last Encore/Curtain Call of a show for an entertainer. I promise from an entertainers perspective this was the Coda of Freddie. Off the Innuendo album. Very dark dramatic song coming with the grips of the entertainers mortality. Sort of a battle cry for all entertainers to make each performance the very best as if it was their very last one. This one is up your alley. And must say make it part of your own performance. I'm not much fan of hip hop or rap. But I do like the very best of Whether its Doctor Dre DMC, Public Enemy, NWA, Emminem, Slick Rick. And SHOUT OUT to NATE DOGG and WARREN G (REGULATE).

Tops of The Pops was basically the British version of American Bandstand!
Their harmonys are cold!
He's wearing a fur coat. I think that you would love white queen
Brian May the guitar player is also an astrophysicist PhD. I wonder what he does in his spare time. And he made that guitar out of an old mantle piece
what "I'm Weak For Deaky" said....White Queen....
Oh yeah Great Band
They were all opera majors in college!
Scribe there was a rumor that all four members were gay. They also say that Freddie Mercury was bisexual. R.I.P. amazing talent gone way too soon. Another One Bites the Dust is a great song by Queen...
Brian, Roger & John are definitely not gay, but the British tabloids were vicious, merciless, and printed a lot of lies, just like today's tabloids.
Freddie’s wearing a Saskwatch, but it’s cool, in fact it’s killer
Yes, Freddie definitely broke all the rules, lived the way he wanted to live. He said "f*#K it" and did! lol Unfortunately, it led to his death, but what a legacy and he lived his life more fully than many who live much longer who don't really live their lives. RIP Freddie - thank you for the music. We can only imagine what you would've kept on creating! :)
Queen-innuendo

Early queen best queen
Guaranteed to blow your mind...Brian May is an astrophysicist! (that is, if you didn't already know...)
Reation Queen
Song: No One But you.
Freddie wore black nails on his left hand and Brian May the guitarist wore white on his nails.
To go with the album?
@@ms.chuckfu1088 I have never heard an explanation. Other than Freddie could only paint one hand neatly so that's why only he painted one.
@@darlahays2471 As good as explanation as any. The white side / black side Queen II, probably came after. I expect Fred's black nails came first. Brian's next. And the album followed that established pattern.
@@ms.chuckfu1088 if you notice that early on Freddie would wear black and Brian white? Another play on the black/white theme? The good guy,,bad guy thing...
March of the Black Queen

It's a short fur jacket worn over very tight pants\stretchy suit that made the tv people. uncomfortable. They were told to film him from the waist up.
Scribe...you have to hear Roger Taylor! I love my car - Live. Will blow you away!
