    I respect these shops for not immediately throwing away broken stuff, knowing that someone will come by and buy the items to fix and enjoy. Yet again, Japan is peak.

    • @indy5280
      @indy5280 Місяць тому +8

      I know a shop here that does it too, but if the cartridge slot doesn’t work they call it a “digital edition” and still charge way too much

    • @fireaza
      @fireaza Місяць тому +13

      I'd say it's because taking care of your possessions has a long history in Japan. I mean, you've got the practice of "kintsugi" where you repair broken dishes with gold, which makes them more beautiful. There's even folktales of objects becoming spirits after existing for 100 years, and they'll be good or evil spirts depending on if they were well-cared for.

    • @danielstefanovic2604
      @danielstefanovic2604 Місяць тому +5

      Ive heard its expensive to throw away stuff in Japan so its better to hold on it and then bin it off to hard off.

    • @fireaza
      @fireaza Місяць тому +5

      @@danielstefanovic2604 To an extent. Depending on where you live, large items need a fee to be disposed of. Games certainly don't fit under that category, I once found a Super Famicom thrown out!

      @kyle0091000 Місяць тому +3

      🤨 because by not throwing “junk” away, they can make money off of it (better than zero) - what’s there to respect from, it’s business.

    Coincidentally just a couple of days ago I checked the channel to see if I might have missed a video here, but now I realized I had the bell on as there actually is a new video... and what a nice one!
    I love these retro hunting videos in Japan from you! I have to play/pause/play/pause all the time checking everything thoroughly for all these treasures. These stores are just so interesting and fascinating.
    So much history and so many gems. (I'd have loved to see you test that InitialD game on stream, for example) 14:35 I'd always like to help out translating if you wanted to try these old Japanese games, but that would probably be quite slow. It was always fun when you played the good old Japanese GameBoy games on stream though :)
    14:40 Shinchan spotted (17:25 another two!). Looks intriguing! Feels like in these shops you could always use another person or two next to you helping you spot and research things while browsing through the shops.
    I hoep, for some games you got on your trip, we'll see some streams (probably after work in the new home has calmed down a bit) ^^
    26:55 I believe I have NBA Street V3 for the gamecube, but I can't remember Mario and Luigi in it. I'll have to chech that out again! Nice find!
    29:50 Super Metroid is one of my favorite games. 100$ is fairly steep, but understandable (I'd need to get a SNES first though).
    Last year you went to (amongst many others) the Hard-Off in Hachioji. I went there a few months later on my first trip to Japan after more than 5 years. I hesitated a bit and didn't buy that much, but it was great fun. (16:05 I regret not buying a few things after I was already back home... Pokemon SoulSilver for example. It had a decent price. Not sure why I hesitated there).
    My next trip is planned for November. This time starting in Osaka and heading to Tokyo via Hokuriku. Besides lots of sightseeing, delicious food, etc. I'm hoping to find some good retro deals as well. I'd surely love to go on a hunt with you some day :)
    Awesome video again, Nick! I'm looking forward to the next one here, and of course over on the Pokemon GO channel as well. Take care 🙂

    Hi Nick, so happy to watch your video, especially as I was doing the same thing 3 months ago in Japan, especially in Kyushu area 😄 I just wanted to say that indeed, Bookbox in Kagoshima is an amazing place to visit. It's 2 old gentlemen that own the store, they are passionate and we had a blast. This place looks like a museum, it's almost overwhelming. Anyway, it's really nice to see you wandering around the same stores, it brings back nice memories. Thanks for the video! Cheers mate

    thanks for doing this. Seriously, great job, because hard-offs and similar 2nd hand stores have been increasing their prices rapidly in Tokyo alone! And it is all thanks to us Westerners wanting to purchase these cool relics of a more innocent time.
    By making more videos like these, you are decreasing the chances of people being able to afford this cool stuff not just for westerners, but especially Japanese people that are suffering from a weak yen and being in such bad condition that buying vegetables is getting more difficult, basically shifting the audience it is marketing towards from it's citizens, to tourists!
    Thanks for helping the economy and for these stores needing to increase prices because you basically gave all of these a huge advertisement for free!
    Thank you!
