I was JUST working on a paper for my maritime archaeology master's degree about the age of Suleiman and specifically his admiral Hayreddin Barbarossa, Sinan Reis and their conflict with the Knights of Malta. Good timing, Firaxis! Even more ironically, my one classmate for this particular class is doing his paper on the galleys of Sweden from around the same period. So the last announced Civ was also appropriate.
That was always fun in 5. Plus, if you do it at the right time, you could definitely get a bunch of different players involved, Like Robert Guiscard (I hope I got the last name right)
Istanbul should be referred to as Kostantiniyye in the game as that was the name of the city when Suleiman was alive. The name Istanbul didn't become the official name until after the Ottoman Fell and Ataturk renamed it.
not really. In the war of independence, Istanbul was taken and re-renamed as Kostantiniyye. but after Turkey got it back, they re-re-renamed it to Istanbul
Not true. The official name was konstantiniye but locally, the city was called Istanbul which was derived from the Greek name stimboli even before the fall of constantinople in 1453. After the fall of constantinople, the word stimbuli pronounced as istanbul with ottoman turkish language but you are right about the official name. The name istanbul was given to the city, officially, when Ataturk established the Turkish Republic. Historically though, it was called istanbul for centuries.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Would have preferred the Republic of Turkey for once with Atatürk in the lead, but after spending the entire Civ V and early Civ VI without it, I am really glad to have Ottomans back! Thats makes the DLC for me, time to head over to Steam DLC Page!
@Koala Eucalyptus So, you mean to tell me none of the other countries in the roster have any other dark pasts? You do realize nations like the US and Germany are in there right, let alone the fact that this is the trailer for Ottomans, who have an even darker past than Turkey ever had. Also, history is always biased based on the person telling it. Sure, I'm being told the glorious and flawless history of our Republic Era and some other nations who have been on the receiving end of our actions will be less likely to wrap their words in bubble wraps. However, when we look at it objectively, Republic of Turkey in the lead of Atatürk is the one and only nation to be invited to the United Nations instead of applying to join, solely because of Atatürk's contributions to world peace. I understand it's easy to try to shit on a nation in the comments section, but no need to be a hypocrite. Either complain about all nations with a dark past, or just let it go and look at it from a more objective perspective, rather than the perspective of a single nation. Here, UN's collective decision, obviously is more objective than whatever I learned in a Turkish school or whatever you learned at yours.
Did you guys see that they add names to land marks like rivers and mountains so exiting And hope fully all cyclones get names Watch out its hurricane tortilla
Well it was only a matter of time, glad they’re back! Mughals, (Hapsburg) Austria, Benin and Umayyad Caliphate would all be interesting civs to come... and it would be cool to get more double leader civs
I really like that the unique units work well with conquest mechanics to replicate the Ottomans and their really advanced methods of assimilating conquered peoples.
The fact that Canada and Australia are even in the game is a disappointment to civ. And they still haven’t added the Assyrians or the Mayans or the Byzantines. And they used someone who probably never existed for Carthage. Shouldn’t have added Georgia either.
This one looks like it plays a little more traditionally than the other gathering storm civs, but still extremely powerful. With the ability to build siege units faster, they might almost be rivaling to Zulu.
I just want to say to all Turks, you should build more bridges with Europe, I think both the EU and Turkey can be powerfull allies in keeping peace in the middle east. It's sad that complex politics is preventing from the EU and Turkey to become better friends. We should look for a sollution for the Kurds and then move on, the world needs to work better together when they face the difficult challenges in the near future. Some problems can't be fixed individually in the real world. Anyway looking forward to this expansion and playing as Turkey. Peace in the real world!
On the tin they look op af, but upon closer inspection most of Sulimon's special abilities are trade offs. You don't really want to build musket-men in your own city, and while you have an extra governor for conquesting and diplomacy, he's taking points away from your other governors. Only time will tell though.
@@medleyshift1325 lol you will never use new governor in foreign cities, you grab him for 20% unit production which is fantastic. Also who cares janisaries take food from your own cities if you will just mass upgrade them from swordsman. He's bananas, especially if great bazaar works the way it says. +1 ammenity from every luxury resource meaning same copies? That's bananas.
I started with CIV6 therefore i ask. Did Firaxis ever nerfed a Civ that hard that this Civ lost a whole ability? Or do they nerf only the percentage of some skills. I personally hate developers when they nerf strong "things" in game. I mean in a game there must be op players right? I hate equality in game. Like the guns in ego shooter games. As soon a gun is powerful they nerf that gun. Today nerfing things is a hype.

I know we are associated with arab people but we are an another nation with different physical attributes and we came from central asia. We have our national pride and characteristics. Please consider this while doing smt.
What do you think of my idea for a civ South Africa/Nelson Mandela: Leader ability: Long walk to freedom Gets +5% culture for every different religion in all your city. Gains 50% more diplomatic favors from all sources. Civilization ability: Rainbow nation The second and third cities you settle gets all the same buff as the capital. All mines and quarries get extra +2 gold and +2 production if (Industrialization) is researched. All unites does not suffer movement penalties when crossing or moving on hills. Unique unite: ox wagon Replaces the settler. Get +1 movement and can cross mountains. Cost 2 movement to do this action. Unique district: Die kasteel van goeie hoop Replaces the encampment district. It can only be build on hills. If builded it will build the newest wall you have researched to your city center. All range units get +1 range if standing on this district. If (Ballistics) is researched gain another +1 range.
There's a lot of leaders they want to add to the game however the more closer to present time you get, the harder it becomes to get permission from the families/estates of those leaders to use their likeness in a videogame.
Excited to see Suleiman the Magnificent. Chained cannons could be another siege improvement, but I like the additions that were given. How about the city state of Rhonds? I definitely would like to see the Byzantine Empire. I really want to settle Constantinople and instantly incite the Ottomans.

I would be really hyped if they added Mehmed II with an ability deserving of his title as "The Conqueror", really!
Why Ottoman sultans look like arabic sultans in this game?

I can't understand the reason behind showing someone who was not brown as brown...
Because SJW bullshit is taking over the gaming industry, similar to what happened with the Hollywood...

Hopefully you guys are releasing Byzantium too so we can get a Byzantine-Ottoman scenario
That was always fun in 5. Plus, if you do it at the right time, you could definitely get a bunch of different players involved, Like Robert Guiscard (I hope I got the last name right)
YES!!!
Anyone wanna tell him?

So happy the Ottomans are back, even with Suleiman :D.
And their gameplay also looks really fun.
You’re doing great on these never Civs

@Koala Eucalyptus you're dumb

Well it was only a matter of time, glad they’re back!
Mughals, (Hapsburg) Austria, Benin and Umayyad Caliphate would all be interesting civs to come... and it would be cool to get more double leader civs

The fact Canada and Australia came before one of the greatest empires of all time is an insult to civ :(.
The fact that Canada and Australia are even in the game is a disappointment to civ.
And they still haven’t added the Assyrians or the Mayans or the Byzantines.
And they used someone who probably never existed for Carthage.
Shouldn’t have added Georgia either.

Great work guys! especially the ottoman empire! thanks to the Civilization Team, i am really happy you anounced Civ7, cant wait to play it 👍
i was waiting ottomans to buy ci6. now time has come
This one looks like it plays a little more traditionally than the other gathering storm civs, but still extremely powerful. With the ability to build siege units faster, they might almost be rivaling to Zulu.
I’ll have two balkan nations, a balkan large, a Vienna with extra dip, a mamluk sultanate, two arabian minors, one with goats, and a large Venice.
Remove goat so I can laugh at your joke.
Nevermind I'm already crying
underrated comment :D:D:D:D:D:D
Suleiman was from crimea khanate tartar and father from turkey. Still looks arab somehow in civ 6 yet clearly painted white in potraits.
I'd really like to see the Mughals added in a new DLC
Now the game has 4 "Caesars"
Trajan was Imperator Caesar Augustus
Barbarossa was Kaiser
Suleiman was Kayseri Rûm (as he says 0:03)
Peter was Czar
looks nothing like the historical depictions of suleiman
Nice bonuses ! The unique Governor is a cool idea ! Keep surprising me, so far all the new civs feel really interesting to play
Suleiman’s turban went from onion to Pope hat since the last civ game.
Am I the only one who thinks they are way overpowered?
Nope, not at all
On the tin they look op af, but upon closer inspection most of Sulimon's special abilities are trade offs.
Maybe, but what naval civ isn't? I mean, aside from Norway.
IS THAT PARGALI IBRAHIM PASHA?? What a reference! Amazing friendship poisoned by greed, envy , lust and schemes.. History remembers that when Suleiman executed Ibrahim everything went south for the empire, and soon it turned into sultanate of concubines.. HUGE LIKE from me, your Fellow Bosniak!! Great stuff Devs, keep up the good work :D
I appreciate your adding Suleiman to the game, and i sincerely thank you but he looks like an indian or arab or smt. I am not being racist but he was a white person as all other ottoman sultans. I know we are associated with arab people but we are an another nation with different physical attributes and we came from central asia. We have our national pride and characteristics. Please consider this while doing smt.
Glad to have Suleiman back again for the first time; this civ could be serious fun.
0:20 Ah yes the 2 greatest Cities in all of Turkey. Istanbul and Hong Kong
My personal favorite domination civ
I BET THEY ARE GOING TO ADD DIDO OF CARTHAGE
I never liked the way Suleiman sounded in Civ 5. But this... this fits.
What do you think of my idea for a civ South Africa/Nelson Mandela:
Leader ability: Long walk to freedom
Gets +5% culture for every different religion in all your city. Gains 50% more diplomatic favors from all sources.
Civilization ability: Rainbow nation
The second and third cities you settle gets all the same buff as the capital. All mines and quarries get extra +2 gold and +2 production if (Industrialization) is researched. All unites does not suffer movement penalties when crossing or moving on hills.
Unique unite: ox wagon
Replaces the settler. Get +1 movement and can cross mountains. Cost 2 movement to do this action.
Unique district: Die kasteel van goeie hoop
Replaces the encampment district.
@@Shinbu150 plus controversy is a big issue in their political correct policy.
That second and third cities getting the same bonus as your capital is extremely strong. This seems a little too strong in general.
