Man, I'm sorry, I don't get the people going on about shedding tears over this cinematic. Everyone's got different tastes, I guess, but this cinematic really was a let-down. I mean this with the most respect too, I've been really looking forward to Civ VII and I still am. This one did not feel at all thrilling or climactic as the first cinematics from Civilization VI, Beyond Earth, or even Civilization V. This one really was okay, at best. But it just seemed like there were so many missed opportunities to show off the highlights of each age that this game will have (as Civ VI does super well in its cinematic). A lot of focus on a sword that I'm still not sure why it's so special, some random World War soldier in the end looking at the sky that had nothing to do with any sword. Good to see the people look somewhat more realistic than Civ VI (Civ V still takes the trophy), but really a step down from past Civ game cinematics. Hopefully, the expansion cinematics will be better. Still holding out faith in you, Firaxis! Excited for the game.

all the trailer focused on the sword reminds me the Vinland Saga final arc where because a sword the war broke and a native american could see how violent would be the future. We have no enemies
A mesmerizing show! This was a beautiful trailer indeed. You never disappoint with the cinematic work, and the gorgeous score to accompany it. Beautifully done!
I love how the lyrics to the motif that plays when the farmer picks up the sword are (as they appear in the main theme) "ure æghwylc sceal ende gebidan worolde lifes" - each of us must await the end of life in this world. Your games always have something to say about the human condition. It's not easy to give a strategy game such a strong emotional core. And Ms Christie does a brilliant job.
Interesting that the cinematic kinda omits European cultural references entirely (I wouldn't count the sequence with modern soldiers, since those were kinda meant to represent something else).
It's telling a specific narrative about Ashoka's sword and the cycle of violence, which is pretty well-done I think. A man who dropped it in regret at all the violence he caused followed by a dancer using it to create art, only for it to end up in the hands of violent warriors again, the cycle continuing until it is found by a farmer with a rocket flying behind him-as potentially hopeful as it is ominous since it could be either one heading towards the stars or one aimed at the Earth.
@@Hifuutorian While I do appreciate the explanation (which does indeed constitute a solid narrative), and have no quarrels with the symbols employed by the trailer, I'm more concerned with the fact that usually the Civilization series represents a broader range of cultures (at least in its trailer materials).
@@oleh_lunin I feel like that's a really silly concern, given how previous entries in the franchise have done a _not_ good job at representing a broader range of cultures; They're very eurocentric. They've steadily become less so but it is still very noticeable. It's also interesting that you only mentioned Europe and not say, African or American cultures or even other parts of Asia. (Not accusing you of anything; Just that it might be an unconscious bias.) This game has done a lot to not only go wider, but also much deeper than previous entries have. Even the European cultures are so much more in-depth now. Singular individual parts of the Roman civilization are leagues more interesting than the single bonus they got in previous games and are more faithful to them too as an example. Their unique 'civilian' unit is a Commander (Basically, a Great General+extra stuff) that starts with an extra promotion and when they have three, they can make a settlement for free. That's only a single part of their bonuses and it's a historically relevant one that has gone completely underutilized in previous titles.
@@Hifuutorian well, calling it "silly" kinda devalues my opinion, to be honest. The reason I mentioned Europe was specifically because certain African and Asian cultures indeed got represented in the trailer (I did note the absence of, say, Oceanian, or Southern American cultures too, if that's what you meant). I do agree that the new systems allow exploring cultural development with more precision than ever before. However, the experience of Humankind, that attempted a similar thing, showed that this can be a double-edged sword, so we'll have to see how that works. My concern; however, involved only the trailer, the video above, nothing else. It's nicely crafted and coherent, that much can't be disputed (although the quality of animations seems kinda outdated even by Civ V standards, and this is coming from a person, who doesn't really value graphics in video games). Yet, in my opinion, it was odd that no European culture was represented there at all. It doesn't mean that other cultures represented in the video are not worth mentioning, far from it; yet it feels strangely tilted outwards from european cultures, in my opinion.
Funny how the vibe of this game has changed with the times. Originally it was all about "Crush your enemies, be the best", now it's just "IDK man let's get through this together"
They've done a fantastic job going insanely in-depth with every civilization in the game honestly. I feel bad for modders because of how much goes into one now.
As a southeast asian seeing a Civ trailer that highlights Asian-MENA cultures is a breath of fresh air in a sea of media that focuses on European culture and history. Am not saying the former is wrong, but I think we need to see more content about other amazing world cultures (Asia-Pacific, Native American, Central Asian, African etc.). The Civ series is a good example of this type of content. Anyways excited for Civ 7 as ever! Amazing work from the animation team as always
Why is this game so dour? Civ should be vibrant and full of life and instead, everything feels almost like a dirge. I hope this isn't a "bad things happened in history, therefore I will not tolerate joy" experience. Still, there are a few things about this game that give me pause in regards to pre-ordering.
This looks like it's going to be awesome! Hopefully, there's a game production war between the Age of Empires and Sid Meier's happens before I die. I haven't played enough of these games in my life.

MY ASEAN PEOPLE CHECK IN HERE! HOOOORAAAAAHHH!!!
The most boring trailer actually, compared to the other games

Its a good trailer. But I don't think anything is ever going to hype me up like that Sean Bean trailer for Civ 6 did.
前のオープニングは人類の進歩とか使命みたいなのを感じたけど今回は過去しか感じられない
Funny how the vibe of this game has changed with the times. Originally it was all about "Crush your enemies, be the best", now it's just "IDK man let's get through this together"
The vibes are immaculate
This brought tears to my eyes. You convinced me to pre order it. :-_)
the only bad thing about this is it only lasts 3 minutes
The quality improvement of the cinematics is the best. I'm excited, I can't wait for the game to be released.
Took off work Feb 6th
That sword is from wars fought over someone settling too close to another person's borders and this is the archeologist finding it.
That's a sick cinematic.
This trailer is helping me rediscover hope in gaming
I looked at that sword just like he did.😮

reins don't stretch like that, firaxis
If I am not mistaken, I saw the Siam Civilization at the beginning and a new Arab leader .. can’t wait
I'm so surprised that this game emphasizes non-european cultures the most throughout the series
They've done a fantastic job going insanely in-depth with every civilization in the game honestly. I feel bad for modders because of how much goes into one now.
almost if they wanted to push an agenda.
@@brunolima7402you don’t seem biased at all
@@brunolima7402Look who's mad. It's as if civilizations were all over the world...
@@brunolima7402 Weird how you guys don't have an agenda though.
Smoothbrain.
To be honest, I'd rather the reveal teaser was the opening cinematic instead, I think it was much much better
1:14 SIAM CONFIRM??!?!?!?
Yeah
I see "elephant gatling gun"
When the voice started I beleive I could pick Elves as a Civ !
Brienne of Tarth is from a fantasy series that doesn’t have elves in it lol.
Man this 1:37 part is just awesome
Why are the Civ Openings always this inspiring?
Thailand 👏🏻🇹🇭 1:19 | 2:20
I wish so much the narrator from civ 5 was alive. He's voice was iconic
I AM READY
Just two months to go!
Real ploughshares to swords moment there.
Thank you for giving importance to Ashoka 0:46 and Indian civilization ❤
West where ?
You worship Japanese media
I'm so hyped for Civ VII!
Why is this game so dour? Civ should be vibrant and full of life and instead, everything feels almost like a dirge. I hope this isn't a "bad things happened in history, therefore I will not tolerate joy" experience. Still, there are a few things about this game that give me pause in regards to pre-ordering.
I had that same reaction to the new theme when it released.
This looks like it's going to be awesome! Hopefully, there's a game production war between the Age of Empires and Sid Meier's happens before I die. I haven't played enough of these games in my life.
As someone from South East Asia, I have to say. I love how the trailer focus on Asian settings. Rock on!
It’s been preordered for weeks now, time to hibernate until release
I got insane chills. Beautiful trailer.
LET'S GOO! We will be there!
There is no western nation in this video. So inclusive.
The smoothbrain persecution complex will always be sad and embarrassing.
Calm yourself, there are no native americans and like only one black person in the video.
