I would really appreciate it; plus, I love your feedback. It keeps me motivated.

Thanks to recording engineer Doug McClement for the following information on the band members.
"The band was made up of Toronto session musicians
Bass: Rick Homme
Guitar: Bob Mann
Drums: Terry Clarke (who just celebrated his 78th birthday last week) he's still an A level session drummer in town. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terry_C...)
Synth: My longtime friend Lou Pomanti, still a major keyboardist and band arranger here in T.O. He has an amazing r&b horn band called "Oakland Stroke." • Oakland Stroke "Spinni...
The Musical Director of the series was the late Bobby Edwards, and Camera Director was the late Ron Meraska.
The exec producer who put together all the amazing pairs of musicians for the 26 episodes of 'In Session' was the late Ian Milne Anderson."

I was fortunate to be the recording engineer on the In Session series for both seasons (that's me in the control room in the grey shirt) It was an unforgettable experience. I have several photos I took backstage during breaks. Glen and Leon were a pleasure to work with. Glen had no star attitude whatsoever. Hung out with the crew at lunch. Leon was a bit more withdrawn, but a real southern gentleman. Glen also did an episode in Season 2 in 1988, with Jimmy Webb.
Great to hear from you. The late Ian Anderson told me when they would be arriving, and where I could show up to greet them.
I wonder why this never made it to DVD for sale to the public, and I wonder what never made it to air (what was left on the cutting room floor).
Would you mind sharing your photos with me (sliddycoat@gmail.com)? I would love to see them.
I was in Leon's band in 1981. He was a private person, not prone to extroversion, in other words. Leon was a good-hearted man, however. And I never heard him speak negatively of anyone.
Incredible session thanks man
Thank you
🙏🤗🍺cheers
Too cool!
Glen Campbell is one musician I would NOT want to jam with. I mean one of the greatest lead guitar players and than he decides to become a frontman, and his voice might be even better than his guitar playing. What an absolute musical giant. RIP Glen.
I would sing and play circles around him.
😂 Not unless your last name is Walker...
Yep. But Leon was a wrecking ball!!!
And LEON TOO.
Eddie asked him for lessons🤷♂️
This is why UA-cam is so special, finding gems like this.. 2 incredible artists
Damn dude thats amazing; I bet that was a blast; saw glen only once at the Tulsa fair; he was amazing; Leon three times; once alone; once with Merle and the Leon and Elton union tour
The hair loss advert in between done it for me lol
More talent between the two of them than during the entire Grammy Awards in last few years.
Love Leon and Glenn . You must have missed Billy Strings who was relegated to the roof top!
you mean Jimmy Kimmel wasnt there ?? Oh No !!!
So true!
Kimmel don't work unless the bioches twerk.
They are great, but if you need to put someone else down to acknowledge that you are doing it wrong.
I’m a heavy metal guitarist and Glenn is one of my favorite players along with Jerry Reed. 🎉
Me too but you left out Chet
Two legends. I think Glen was one of the best guitarist ever.
Roy Clark and Chet Atkins too
Did you know he did the opening guitar riff for Dance, Dance Dance?
You know music.
Eddie Van Halen asked him for guitar lessons. He was that good.
And... he couldn't read a note of music.
A lot of people don’t realize probably how influential Leon was in music circles. He was a driving force for Joe Cockers Mad dogs and Englishmen tour writing the arrangements and leading the band itself. He and Glenn could sit in and play with anyone. And do it well! Thanks for posting.
Same could be said of Campbell, despite being primarily a country artist, even many rock guitar legends admired his playing and cited his influence.
Interestingly, Cocker had fired his entire band shortly before the MD&E grouping. His manager called Leon and asked if he could get a band together to do the tour, and the rest is history.
Glen was a Beach Boy
Glen Campbell was the soundtrack of our summer travels. Leon Russell, I grew up in the Pearl District of Tulsa, Ok, during the 70s, about a mile from Leon's Church Studios. During the 70s Eric Clapton and George Harrison were in love with the Tulsa Sound being made with Leon and J.J. Cale, because of this they were frequently in town. Ran into Le4on, George and Eric in the health food store, they came in for some fresh yogurt, my buddy grabbed my wrist and said, "Be cool, they come in all the time, don't want to run them off", I did stare a lot thought. After graduation my buddy stopped by the Church Studio and asked Leon for a job. A week later I was at the OKC Airport, when suddenly Leon and his entourage hurried by, late for a flight. My buddy, loaded down with 5 carryon bags was hurrying to keep up, I asked Tony, "Where ya headed, he said, Europe, I got the job, I'm a roadie."
Great story!❤
Such a great memory to have! I know what it means when time just stops in the presence of greatness...and you just kinda stare...almost basking in their glow😅
Stumbling upon this in 2024 and having the best hour ive had in a long time. what a couple of voices and talents.
Gl😊in was the best 12 string player in the world
Those guitar riffs on Gentle On My Mind are like opium for the soul.
F*ckin-A Right! Beautiful!
I will remember that phrase and use it the rest of my life! Thanks for a new superlative exclaimation!
Two of the finest musicians to ever come down the pike...
and also up the pike....
Agree...if this doesn't make someone's big toe shoot straight up in their boot, they are dead!
Monster talent....RIP
Amen, two of my all time favs
That’s right
This is an absolute historical treasure.
Thank you, UA-cam algorithm for leading me to this gem.
Saw Leon in '73, changed my life.
Saw him on TV (Homewood) in 1970 -- same for me.
You know what sucks? Been listening to Glen since i was a kid now 66, never knew how good he really was. Just wonderin how many others have been fooled? Somebody was holdin him back! Hell it might have been Glen himself, I'll never know. But damn he was good! So is Leon!
I'm the same way
We were just making the same observation, feeling badly that we ignored him, we think it was because we didn't think he was hip or cool enough for us, I can see now that we just weren't hip or cool enough for him.
Me too
Same here from a guy who is 72. I always liked GC and the songs he did but did not appreciate what a top-notch guitar player he really was until many years later.
You might want to watch what is available on youtube about “The Wrecking Crew”….. both Leon and Glen were top tier studio musicians. Cher has a couple GREAT stories about Leon in the studio too….
Glen had talent oozing out of every pore. Helluva singer. One of the greatest guitar players that ever drew breath. He was even a great golfer. A true musicians musician.
No arguments here
Never will AI accomplish human greatness like the two extraordinary musician's in this video. Leon Russell was the first real concert I went to see. It was a religious experience, never been bested.
*yet
Remember, today is the worst you will ever hear when it comes to AI music.
My first concert. Also
Back in the day 1973
Leon Russell ❤ Such a great singer & musician. Timeless. Glen surprised me, not just a country singer. What a great pairing of 2 icons.👍🏼
It's amazing how many hit records Leon played on in the 60s. I heard a story from a biography of Leon that some of that work he was inundated with he hated doing, like playing for Gary Lewis and the Playboys. None of them played an instrument or could read music and it drove Leon nuts. Gary's Dad Jerry had to use all his star power to get Ed Sullivan to allow his son's band to appear on his TV show. Ed didn't want them on because nobody played an instrument and he'd have to cover for him or let them lip-synch, something nobody did on Ed's show. In the end Jerry won out and Ed let them on.
Shame on me. My guitar teacher when I was 14 wanted to teach Glen; I wanted to learn Dylan.
Glen Campbell’s guitarwork is stunning.
That guitar break on Gentle on My Mind was soooo sweet
Glen and the Studio musicians were in complete Awe when Leon played his Song! Glen and Leon -pillars of music genius 🇺🇸RIP Brothers🇺🇸
100%! If you liked this one check out Leon and JJ Cale.
It never ceases to amaze me how great an artist Glen Campbell was. They are all talented on that stage but holy crap he had it goin on.
Glenn Campbell’s songs are like those peaceful moments you have to yourself on a nice trip where you stop and reflect on how grateful it feels to be “here and now”.
Lovely comment. And true🕊️
My first time hearing Leon Russell was on Joe Cockers Mad Dogs and Englishmen album. Shows what amazing versatility he had given Glen Campbell and Joe Cocker are poles apart in music styles.
@marionoz9980 Glen Campbell and Leon Russel have known each other for years. Both were charter members of the Wreaking Crew, astellar group of LAs 1st call session musicians back in the 60s. Both of those guys played on a lot of the big hits from that era.
My dad used to sing and play Gentle on My Mind on guitar. He taught me to lay guitar when I was in 9th grade. We used to sing and play together. He's been gone 5 years, miss those days..
You have some beautiful memories of your dad to cherish, Beth. All the best.
Glen gave me chills when he started singing "You've Lost That Lovin Feelin" Bravo Glen and Leon ❤❤❤❤. And Leon nailed "You Don't Know Me".❤
Leon Russell just IS Humble ! awesome !
One of the best sessions ever. RIP both of them.
I think is a contender for the best video on the Internet….
Leon was music. No separation of body from instrument, or voice. Just music.
OMG- This is Awesome!! , The 1rst time i seen Leon Russell, was at the Oakland Coliseum, in Calif, in the early 70's when i was 14,, then i was Lucky enough to see him again at the Dixon, Calif., May Fair for price of addmission($5.00) in 1983, , I have a polaroid picture of Leon Russell Loggin's & Messina, Billy Preston, & more from that concert in Oakland , Calif, & I treasure it after all these yrs, 50 plus yrs ago
🎶🎶
amazing memory....thank you for sharing....
Leon is just out this world- effortlessly, epically slaying every change on the keyboard with taste and style. Ditto for Glen Campbell- one of the finest guitarists and singers in country music history. Just genius!
Not just country music friend.
Glenn Campbell was one of the finest musicians humanity has ever witnessed, same with Leon Russel. I can’t believe this video exists, but I am so happy that I’ve been given the chance to enjoy, and as a musician study and learn from it!
These two did a lot of the heavy lifting on many hits in the 60’s -too many to mention , so many they don’t even remember them . Had the pleasure to see Leon on one of his last tours with Dylan and he still had complete command . What a gem this session is especially now that they are both gone.
Two masterful musicians . My favorites
so many people have no idea what an incredible guitarist glen campbell was
Was just thinking that. I did not realize he was so good when I was young.
We know
Wow stumbled onto this today. What a blessing to hear these fantastic musicians young and healthy and firing on all cylinders. Brought back some great memories. Sadly we have lost them both.
We haven't lost anything only gained .. We call kick it, what's so sad about that? Humans are weird when it comes to leaving this planet.
Nothing sad at all about having these two dudes on this planet. You know we don't get out of here alive right?
@@margaretschaffner9133 The death is not what I was refering to specifically but the inability to see them perform live.
You're right about that.
Man terrific! I lost my Dad to Alzheimer's he was the smartest man in my life! To have to watch
him deteriorate for 10 years was hell. He was a WW-2 Okinawa survivor. My prays go to Mr.Campbell's
family and friends. When I was a kid I thought Glenn was just a hillbilly boy was I wrong! This is one
of the Best videos on YT. Two of the best ever here. RIP Leon and Glen both genius's ..
I agree. These guys are real players !
Leon Russell was amazing, i dont think some people realize how big he was
As a child of the 60's&70's, I grew up with these two. The thing I really dislike about today's music is there's no more pickers like Glen, Roy Clark, Jerry Reed, Chet Atkins, etc. There's no Leon Russell, Dr. John, Billy Preston, etc.
If these guys came through today, the "music makers" would pat them on the head, smile benignly, and tell then to go sit in the corner and not bother anyone. They's be told to do up their hair, get leather jackets, and invest in distortion pedals.....
Billy Strings is carrying the torch pretty well.
Glen's guitar playing is so brilliant and I have always loved his voice since i was a kid in the 60's. Leon Russell also, he never got the praise he should have. So many of the greats are gone, its sad.
Be glad for what you know
Who's gonna fill thier shoes. As George said
It's a good thing that you carry their music with you! Share it with friends and loved ones so it can continue on down the timeline. =)
@@kerrconkle4389 No one.
If you get a chance check out Billy Strings ,he’s a Breath of fresh air! A Legend in the making!
I love you in a place
Where there's no space and time
There is a line to ponder.
It’s beautiful, isn’t it?
Love leon and glen Campbell is just such an incredible guitar player and performer. RIP 2 legends
Ive been playing guitar for 55 years and sadly, wasn't until Glenn passed did I find out, he was one of the best guitarist ever. He could shred.
I saw GC with his kids backing him when the Alzheimer’s was setting in. He couldn’t remember the keys or his kids names but he was joyous and could still shred. His daughter (a wonderful talent) kept him on track in in the right key. So glad I got to see him
Eddie VAn Halen once said the only guitar lesson he ever wanted and received was from Glen Campbell
Not sure why but he seemed to be positioning himself publicly as a Vegas-lounge crooner, sans guitar . Then show up almost unannounced at a talk show or variety show WITH guitar and burn the place down with his mastery.
Wher you been Dude🎵🎵
I've been playing 50. I had no idea.
Where was this stuff sitting and why wasn't it ( they ) out there more?
We boomers were lucky to have some of the best music ever made.....and here are two of the good ones.
This was so darn great. Two talented musicians reminiscing about songs & times that touched their hearts, while leaving a trail of their own musical magic dust on so many hits which at the time we were hardly aware of. Through so many genre too. Some wizards should never grow old, let alone be allowed to 'Fly Away', leaving us here to shed silent tears of losses & joy. And Oh, what talent & tunes of our own life's panoramas, still echo down the line, even Gentle on our Minds. This just reminded me of how we were blessed for choice. ❤😊🎉
So well said, and thank you for saying it. ☺️💗🙌🏼
@johnknottenbelt2727 Most profoundly well said.
Sitting here alone on a Friday night with my 2 dogs, enjoying the h*ll out of this beautiful music played by incredibly warm and talented musicians. I'm a rock, hard rock, blues, and jazz fan who only listened to my favorite music when I was young. I'm 73 now and thank God I loosened up and realized I just like great music and talent no matter the category. This session was fantastic and worth every minute spent here. What a gem! Take care, everyone, Peace and loosen up - you'll be glad.
Check out JJ Cale with Leon , Paradise Studios CA … I think 1979
Incredible talent from these two guys, i’am glad someone had the sense to record them together, their talent is amazing. RIP Glen And Leon
@B Yes and if you look up old episodes of Shindig you can catch them playing together in like 1964 🙆🏻♀️
Glen is great but Leon is effortless....amazing. It's great to see how Glen respects Leon's talent.
Nothing should come after "Glen is great..." That's not a knock on Leon.
ua-cam.com/video/j9Tfm3syUOM/v-deo.html
replace "but" with "and".
They both started with humble roots and became THEE standard of grace and talent.
I saw them both (separately) in the 90’s…each were very talented. Glen just shined. I can’t believe they both sang backup for Ricky Nelson who I was just thinking about today…I had a major crush on him back in the day. Oh boy…if only we could turn the clock back about 60 years… 🙏🏻❤️💕
Two natural talents. Glen just opens his mouth and perfection flows out and Leon channels that "something" that comes from another place. They can't help themselves. They're just insanely talented and gifted. Also, I never noticed how fine and long-fingered Leon's hands are.
Leon had the stretch. Master pianist/songwriter
I love it when talented musicians from two different genres play so well together!
Leon and Glen have a history playing together as studio musicians in LA, research The Wrecking Crew ( not the Dean Martin movie lol ).
I've seen A LOT of great concerts in my 70 years here on earth, and I can honestly say when I saw Leon Russell and Willie Nelson on the same stage for a two hour concert back in the 70's my life changed for the better.
It is hard to call someone as talented as Glen Campbell underrated, but I wish those unaware of his talent, especially on the guitar, could watch this video.
Glen Campbell while noted as very good is vastly underrated in history.
He was awesome and Leon too. I bought my Ovation six string guitar in homage to his playing and Cat Stevens too.
Not true at all.
He is terribly underrated by the general public but by other guitarists, he is considered a guitar legend. Similar to people like Jerry Reed etc.
@@TheAisleOfPlenty nope
Guitar players know how good he is
Two of the greatest session musicians of all time.
Love Leon, Glen is incredible. This sessions covers all the tunes in my heart ❤️
Two of the best Nobody like them now The good ones are just about all gone Sad
A year later and this is still a treasure to watch and hear. They will live forever.
I am just blessed to be alive when these dudes did this.
This video is truly historic.....the music and the conversation between these two icons is a gift.....I feel very lucky to have found this.....music is the bridge to truth and happiness.....
OMG two very gifted singers and song writers in the same room. What wonderful memories. There will never be the likes of these two again. Awesome.
In 1983, Glen was 47, and leon was ...41 !😉
Well, the world is poorer by far for the lack of these two but how wonderful that we have this. Thank you for posting
You are welcome. Enjoy!
Glenn owns that fretboard .. my good sweet lord, man !!
Two huge legends .
I was playing in Nashville near the waterfront in the world’s biggest jam session. I had to go to the restroom. There were some porta-potty’s on the hill…Since I had to not stop playing, I asked a nearby grey haired lady to open and close the door while I did my business. After I was finished, I thanked her, and asked her name? She said “Felice Bryant.” I knew I had heard that name before.
I went and looked it up, Felice &Beudelo Bryant were songwriters, one of their hits? “Heartbreak Hotel.” Truth.
@@tedijune6759 wow, cool 😎 fate is a funny thing sometimes
incredible players. Leon's feel is like no other and Glenn's no slouch.
Leon’s groove on Heartbreak so swampy so great. His vocals are so next level.
Lucky guy you are.
Lucky we are to enjoy your generous share.
Thx✌️
I don't think there's anything Glen Campbell couldn't play. And Leon Russell - what a talent and legend. Thanks for posting!
these cats are just what we need now ! So much talent is now in heaven…..
Glen is the GOAT!
I was fortunate enough to buy the last two tickets to see Leon live at the Rams Head in Annapolis in 2016. Our chairs were literally at the foot of Leon’s piano bench. What a privilege it was see this great musician in such an intimate setting. RIP Leon
I MISS MY DEAREST LEON!
Man, if Glen Campbell were just a talented guitar player, capable of rising to the challenge of just about any situation (rehearsed or off-the-cuff), that would be one thing, but the man was also such a gifted vocalist that, at times it just doesn't seem fair to the rest of us that one person could be that good and, worse yet (ha!) make it look so effortless. What a gift to human ears he was!
What a great late night find. I had a smile through every minute.
I'd written Campbell off as lame easy listening music when I was a kid; it wasn't until late in his life that I realized what a talent he was.
Same story for me! What a voice, what a guitar player!
Wow, I didn't know Glen was so good on guitar. My mom always listened to him when I was a kid, but I didn't pay much attention to him back then. Leon seemed like such a humble man, very cool.
The music is really good, but the stories and the banter are what elevates this to great.
What a treasure I stumbled upon! Love Leon and Glen and all the great ones! So easy on the ears. Thanks from Texas. ❤️🇨🇱💙
You are welcome. I'm glad that you enjoyed it.!
Possibly one of the greatest guitarists ever.
Possibly? He IS one of the greatest ever.
I have heard told he was, in his time one of the top 5 guitarists in the Nation....and undoubtedly he was!
Possibly. Him and Roy Clark.
He's right up there with Jerry Reed, Lester and Chester. Danny Gatton and a few others!
I absolutely agree!
Loved Glen Campbell since I was a kid. He had a voice that made think he could make the sun shine and everything would be OK and happy. He just had the sunshine in his voice, may sound silly but it is reminsent of good sunny times.
You're right and it's not silly. It has to do with the brightness of his tone. A ringing quality. Gotta love it for that sunshine quality.
@@MarcosDinnerstein Yes indeed, another was Jerry Reed, great vocal and of course guitarist.
Agreed. First heard Glen at age 14. To this day his voice soothes my soul.❤❤
A couple of influential musical giants.
Wonderful performance by all. I used to do a morning talk show in Cleveland, and Glen stopped by to promote his upcoming appearance. I got to play Gentle On My Mind with him. What a thrill for me since I’d done that song for years when I played in bars around Detroit. In my later years, I produced TV documentaries, including one on Alzheimer’s Disease. Glen was still touring, and he and his wife, Kim, sat down for an interview before his concert that night. He was still performing pretty well, but it was hard to see that incredible talent fading away.
These two guys, Glen and Leon, are having such a nice time playing together, respectful of each others talent.
Two giants from the "Wecking Crew". Glen the Beach Boy and Leon the multi-instrumentalist, both gifted artists. Thanks for the post!
Love both of them but Leon was also a gifted songwriter, arranger and band leader. He knew his way around the recording studio as he had his own, in the 60's until he left us.
@@chlynn13b92 Very astute! I finished reading his book a couple of weeks ago.
Did Glen Campbell play much lead while with Beach Boys? Either studio or on stage?
@@normsaunders4980 A little research indicates that Glen joined the Beach Boys tour after Brian's initial withdrawal from touring and indicated that Glen played bass. Also he played guitar during sessions for Pet Sounds. The only person who could accurately say what happened overall is Brian. My understanding is that Brian had TOTAL control ot the production of music back then.
@@normsaunders4980 Although written by lead guitarist Carl Wilson, it was Glen who played the lead guitar on the recording of "Dance Dance Dance", which is a great riff.
Not only are they great singers, they are also master musicians!
Wow! They can just play Anything and EVERYTHING!!!!! Awesome musicians!!!!
Wow! Glenn Campbell was amazing! What a musician!
Loved it from start to finish. Ol' Glenn was a musical genius. Him and Leon.
Both of them
Two absolute giants of talent. It would blow your mind how good both of them were. Leon was so underrated by the public, but musicians knew and same goes for Glenn. He lived large and went at everything head on and full speed and pulled it off. True professionals.
Great couple , watching them playing and singing live there must be a fabulous thing.
The "Wrecking Crew" will continue to WRECK until the sun burns out!
These two members of the "Crew" are masters.
Leon Russell wrote some timeless. incredible songs that will live on forever!
in a place where there is no space and time
Yes Leon did. So did Glenn
@@williamrichards3707 Amen on that.
Leon Russell, the Master of Space and Time. I absolutely adored him
Oh God. I have loved and admired Leon since I was a kid in the 70's. Saw him several times.
When my husband passed away in 2009, I sang 'a song for you ' by his bedside as he took his last breaths .
It's been difficult to listen to that song ever since .
As I watched this, I heard those opening chords and immediately reached for the remote, intending to mute the audio for a few minutes. But then I didn't.
Yes the tears flowed, but in a good way. And I sang along
thank god for youtube or we wouldnt have this
What a great session. Spontaneous music by people that made the soundtracks of our lives.
Both genius stars have gone to the heaven RIP.
Those two had played together for so long they both just give me chills.
Was lucky enough to see Leon Russell,no fan fair or big advertisement about, but I saw him in a small club portion of a casino in N. Lake Tahoe. He was great👍
Gentle on my mind is one of those wonderful songs that would be great songwriters everywhere dream about. You see there was a gentleman named John Hartford who played a little banjo and did some clogging, which is hillbilly dancing. And one day he came up with the song that Glenn and Leon are playing here and he called gentle on my mind. That one song gave Mr. John Hartford enough money for the rest of his life he was able to live free of the economic constraints of the day-to-day working person. And so he did what he always dreamed of doing. Ironically, it wasn’t to be a famous songwriter. No, not at all. Mr. John Hartford became a riverboat captain on the Mississippi. The real deal. Not a dilettante. Not some rich fool trying to play like he lived in another place and time. Just an honest to God working riverboat captain on the Mississippi. You can hear that desire for freedom and the clarity of his vision in every song that he ever wrote. So make sure you spend some time with John Hartford and his music. You won’t regret it and you won’t forget it
And that hillbilly clogging had it's roots in Irish step dancing...
I read a bit about him a few years ago but I didn't know about him being a riverboat captain. I need to find out more, that's fascinating. Thanks for the info.
Thank you. As an unknown songwriter, I have such respect for other songwriters. I never knew who wrote it. Thank you for enlightening me, thank you John Hartford for writing that beautiful song, and thank God for it all.
I remember John Hartford being on Glen's tv show. I thought he was handsome when I was a teenager. I didn't know he became a riverboat captain. That's pretty cool.
Glen is my favorite all time guitarist/singer .
