Detrucci you just stumbled upon one of the greatest bands ever. Arguably one of the best drummers, bassist and guitarist ever. These guys are true musicians. Right there with Floyd, Zepp, TOOL, SRV.
As you delve into their library of music you'll be amazed over and over again. I saw them live for the first time when I was 14 in 1976, they opened for Kiss. I was a fan even before that because I grew up close to where the band started, they actually played at our school. Didn't realize it then but I consider myself extremely lucky to have been a part of this bands history.
Geddy Lee (Singer, Bass Player and Keyboarder) remote controls the Keyboards with a Foot Pedal when he's playing the bass. So no one ever say male are not capable of multitasking :-) One of the best drummers i ever ever heard has passed away :-( Rest in peace Neil. Three live concerts, all have been amazing

Good call Ronny! I think Detrucci is probably not ready for stuff like "La Villa Strangiato" yet. Let's spoon feed him a little bit before we get to the epics! But YYZ will give him a nice intro to their sick instrumental moves.
Yeah, too many "Rush in Rio" videos. The thing I love about the studio version is that symbol crash during the solo. And also, during the Rio video, Geddy's harmonics at the end of the solo (You know what I'm talking about) get drowned out by the acoustics.
Yep, that's the lead singer on keyboards...and bass. There are only three members. Check out some live stuff, it is unreal how three people make such big, complex sound.

I might be wrong here, but I feel many Rush fans, especially those older ones, are fans not merely of the band as musicians - that's easy enough given their high levels of skill and precision - but of the men they are and the lives they've lived. These fantastic players have been together as friends for decades, recognize the importance of their fans to their success, express appreciation and gratitude to those who have helped them along the way, are humble and intelligent yet goofy, and we live vicariously in some ways, celebrating their achievements, savouring their music and feeling their pain when tragedy befalls them. It goes way beyond simply the music. It's like a benign form of tribalism where we welcome everyone into the group. Rush are us and we are Rush.

Yep. 3 Guys. Their live performances are great. Some people refer to their music as music for music nerds. All the great progressive rock bands that followed took their cue from Rush as many have admitted. Live, the singer and bass player some of the synthesizer parts with foot pedals. Some of it can be seen in this video. I recommend the live version of Xanadu from exit stage left. Also YYZ live in Rio.
Welcome to Rush!!! This is a rabbit hole that goes very deep, and you will love every moment of it. Some of their songs I would recommend to get you started: Spirit of Radio YYZ Live in Rio (Instrumental) Xanadu Live, Exit Stage Left Freewill Cygnus X-1 Book 1, the Voyage Hemispheres, Cygnus X-1 Book 2 2112 Natural Science Subdivisions Working Man La Villa Strangiato (Instrumental) Not necessarily in that order, but I would recommend Cygnus X-1 Book 1 before Book 2. There's a few to get you started. Enjoy!
Welcome to the Rush family !!! I was checking out albums at the local Record store and came across this album called 2112, and I was hooked. Rush has been my favorite band since.
I love it! You get it! Wow...you really have a lot rocking to do and there is SO MANY great songs by Rush! Ok...you should do "The Spirit of Radio" next! Just go for it! You are ready!
Your reaction was so genuine. Loved it. Check out "Subdivisions", "Distant early warning" or Xanadu, "Time stand still",... I could go on and on. Rush is amazing. I've seen them twice. Soooo good live. Looking forward to more of your reactions. 🤓🤘🏻🎶
Detrucci, no, they had to retire after the drummer, Neil Peart had shoulder problems and tendinitis. They were together for 40 years. I noticed you like their lyrics too. The drummer, Neil writes all their lyrics. Geddy Lee plays bass, keyboards/synth and sings, and Alex is an amazing guitar player. I think you would really enjoy "Rush live in Rio", or any live Rush for that mater. I can't say enough good things about Rush. All 3 guys are AMAZING musicians. Check out "Distant early warning" and "Subdivisions", and then move into some stuff from their album 2112. All their music is awesome. Enjoy, and I'm looking forward to more reactions. 👍🏻🎶
You seem as blown away with Rush as you are with Band Maid. As a child/Teenager in Oz, in the 80's, I was trying to spread the gospel of Rush (they were virtually nobodies in Australia), as I am today with Band Maid. Rush, for me, is the ultimate Prog Rock band. Geddy Lee, (Vocalist, Bassist, Keyboardist, Legend), Alex Lifeson (Guitarist, Legend) and Neil Peart (Drummer and ABSOLUTE LEGEND) took what came before them, mixed it to there own sound and laid the benchmark for all other groups to follow. Check out the albums "2112, Hemisphere's and Exit, Stage Right"...which is live and has a wicked drum solo in the song YYZ.
I think like Band Maid, they are just really solid and compact with their instrumentation. They are also different and innovating in ways I dont see many bands doing. Band Maid's music is so tight that it is impossible to fault any parts of the songs. The same goes with what I experienced with Rush during this reaction :)
You expressed what Neil was trying to achieve. He always thought of how to make the complex sound make sense to the listener. He succeeded time and time again.
Three of the best musicians you will ever hear in rock. You should check them out live. The 1981 live version of "Xanadu", from the "Exit... Stage Left" concert. It is stunning!
Listen to "The Spirit of Radio" next!!!! As a 44+ year Rush fan, this song and that one are their best. Also, listen to their entire album, "Moving Pictures" too. Released in 1981!! Yes, 3 guys!
Another Canadian band from that period you might want to check out - Saga. I'd recommend the Worlds Apart album - just about every song on that album is great.
Geddy Lee is one of my favorite bassists, but not everyone’s favorite singer. A critic one described his voice as ‘a cat being chased out the door with a blowtorch up it’s ass’
Hello, yes his vocals over the years haven’t been as high pitched, critics comments were more a reference to their first album, Working Man would be a great song to check out.
Detrucci, you thought Nightwish fans were rabid. Well, keep playing Rush and you will be swamped. I've loved this band for over 40 years and never tire of listening to them. Their back catalogue of material would need a dedicated channel (which isn't a bad idea). These three guys are each considered masters of their own instruments. Neil Peart, the drummer, is considered to be one of the best rock drummers of all time, by many drummers. His time signatures are often very complex. A great example of Rush's intricacy and all round musicianship is La Villa Strangiatto. Great reaction. You will enjoy this journey just as much as your Nightwish one.
Song was from 1980-81. I've seen Geddy Lee in concert play footpedal, keys on one hand, bass on the other, and sing all at the same time. Glad you liked it, but how can you have lived on planet Earth any time at all and never heard of Rush. Neal Peart is generally considered one of the best rock drummers of all time. He also write their lyrics. Next, listen to "The Spirit of Radio".
Happy New Year young man. There is a version of Tom Sawyer that is within the last year or two. Alex has gray hair and Neil has whatever is underneath his little cap. There is a history to be learned if you choose regarding a Hiatus and the reasons why, but I will let you figure it out on your own. Best wishes. Oh don't forget the Neil Peart drum solo. it is a meal all by itself
i'm happy you like this .. only 3 man ,, 3 genius music nerds .. Geddy Lee is vocal, base guitar and keybord .. next one from Rush ---> YYZ live .. or Red Barchetta or Spirit of radio .. or time stand still .. a very good year 2020 to you 😎👍✨🎶🎸
Geddy Lee, the vocalist, is also the keyboard player *and* one of the very best bass players in rock. They're not actually performing the song in the video, or at least not performing what you're hearing -- there are a lot of overdubs in the final production. It absolutely doesn't take away from the band's talent.
On behalf of the "Planets of the Solar Federation" I welcome you to Planet Rush. Know this: now that you've touched down, your life will never be the same. You've just taken your first step on what will be a journey to a musical Nirvana. I almost envy you and what's to come. Might I (like many I'm sure have done already) recommend you listen to complete albums and not just songs. Perhaps you can react to a specific song, just as long as you have listened to one's that come before and and then after. Cheers!
Like NIghtwish, Rush is always best live, so try to find live performances if you can. The Rock in Rio performances in front a 250k audience are unbelievable and the Time Machine tour is also great. One of their best live performance is the one of Working Man from the Time Machine tour in Cleveland. Also great are their instrumentals YYZ & La Villa Strangiato from Rock in Rio. And there is an incredible documentary to watch after all the live performances called Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage(you will not believe the history of this band).
2112 Next! See that little suggestion that popped up on the end of the Tom Sawyer video? That HAS GOT TO BE your next stop. Be forewarned: it is over 20 minutes long. But it is the best 20 minutes of music you'll ever hear.
Going for that Libertarian, Ayn Randian bullshit is just too much once you realize what the agenda behind that song was. Even Neil wrote it off in later years as "a phase". It's easy to just write it off as "a song" but when you hear him write lyrics like "better the pride that resides, in a citizen of the world" nearly a decade later, you realize his writings are more than just music.
Love the reaction! You seemed disappointed in the length of Tom Sawyer. Let's step it up. La Villa Strangiato, Natural Science, and 2112 should be next on the playlist. The Necromancer and the Cygnus story should follow. Enjoy the ride... It's hard to get off this ride. Rush is the greatest band ever!

Love seeing you enjoy my favorite band as much as I do .... subbed
Thank you Lauri
Dude best reaction video in a while
Thank you so much David :)
Spirit of radio!!! Subdivisions
Hey Detrucci, if you have Netflix check out the Rush documentary:
Rush - Beyond the Lighted Stage
it's incredible
Can't wait to see your reaction to YYZ live in Rio.
Dude keep this Rush thing going
RUSH ANTHEM, FINDING MY WAY, DIFFRENT STRINGS, XANADU,THE SPIRIT OF RADIO, SUBDIVISIONS, THE TREES, 2112, NATURAL SCIENCE....
If You Didn't Know Neil Peart Passed Away Tuesday From Brain Cancer. A Drum Legend! RIP Neil.
It's a sad time for rush fans 😥
Yeah and it was always nice hearing this live with 15,000 or so of your close personal Rush fans collectively losing their minds.
I can imagine
Yep. Also YYZ live in Rio.
playing 2 instruments with pedals is extremely impressive
Welcome to Rush!!! This is a rabbit hole that goes very deep, and you will love every moment of it. Some of their songs I would recommend to get you started:
Spirit of Radio
YYZ Live in Rio (Instrumental)
Xanadu Live, Exit Stage Left
Freewill
Cygnus X-1 Book 1, the Voyage
Hemispheres, Cygnus X-1 Book 2
2112
Natural Science
Subdivisions
Working Man
La Villa Strangiato (Instrumental)
Not necessarily in that order, but I would recommend Cygnus X-1 Book 1 before Book 2.
There's a few to get you started. Enjoy!
Welcome to the Rush family !!! I was checking out albums at the local Record store and came across this album called 2112, and I was hooked. Rush has been my favorite band since.
The singer is also the bass player and keyboards
3 man band. Best ever.
I love it!
Thank you Bonham :) Appreciate that. So cool you got to see them live twice. Do they still tour?
These guys are In a league of their own , you have just begun your journey..keep going you will not regret it.. YYZ LIVE IN RIO
Detrucci Band Maid are Band Maid..... but Rush is Rush. Two great bands. One can enjoy more than one band.
@@stealthcabbie1336 true 😁
hey man good reaction keep going rush is amazing
Thank you :)
You expressed what Neil was trying to achieve. He always thought of how to make the complex sound make sense to the listener. He succeeded time and time again.
Very good comment...so true..uou nailed it...Viva Rush and Rock n Roll...!!!!
Three of the best musicians you will ever hear in rock. You should check them out live. The 1981 live version of "Xanadu", from the "Exit... Stage Left" concert. It is stunning!
Yay! Any chance of reacting to La Villa Strangiato or YYZ since you really seemed to appreciate this track? And yes, Neil Peart is the bomb.
Listen to "2112". You'll love it as well. Great to see someone's reaction who's never heard "Tom Sawyer" before. Awesome!
Listen to "The Spirit of Radio" next!!!! As a 44+ year Rush fan, this song and that one are their best.
Also, listen to their entire album, "Moving Pictures" too. Released in 1981!! Yes, 3 guys!
Whoa 44 years. hats off to you :) That is amazing.
Cream, The Police, Emerson, Lake, and Palmer, and RUSH, the Mount Rushmore of 3 piece bands in rock history.
Rush - Xanadu from Exit Stage Left
Another Canadian band from that period you might want to check out - Saga. I'd recommend the Worlds Apart album - just about every song on that album is great.
Watch their live stuff
First rush oh Em Gee cannot wait to see
If you think there was a lot going on in this song, you need to react to Rush's song "Xanadu" from the Exit Stage Left video. Your mind will be blown!
One of the better original reaction to Rush. Thanks
Thank you, appreciate that
Mr Lee plays bass, sings, and has keyboard and pedal effects duty
How have you not heard Tom Sawyer before? Have you lived under a rock for the last 20 years?
regankelly 😂 😂
GREAT REACTION!
Welcome to the wonderful world of Rush my friend! Try "Spirit Of The Radio" next! You'll love it!
💥💯🖤🎶🤘
Thank you Sherry
Geddy Lee is one of my favorite bassists, but not everyone’s favorite singer. A critic one described his voice as ‘a cat being chased out the door with a blowtorch up it’s ass’
I thought he sounded great in this song
Thank you :) Excited to discover more RUSH and see more incredible music mastery from these masters.
Early 80's Detrucci. Lots of synths.
Mid-late 80's, even better :D
For me the big 4 from Canada are Rush, April wine, Triumph, and Bryon Adams
Song was from 1980-81. I've seen Geddy Lee in concert play footpedal, keys on one hand, bass on the other, and sing all at the same time.

Glad you liked it, but how can you have lived on planet Earth any time at all and never heard of Rush. Neal Peart is generally considered one of the best rock drummers of all time. He also write their lyrics. Next, listen to "The Spirit of Radio".
Its not that I have never heard of them, I just never listened to them :)
Dirk, Pratt and Lerxst will continue to blow your mind! Their catalog is wide and far..... Enjoy, my friend! Bill
Geddy Lee is vocal, base guitar and keybord .. next one from Rush ---> YYZ live .. or Red Barchetta or Spirit of radio .. or time stand still .. a very good year 2020 to you 😎👍✨🎶🎸
3 Genius music nerds does sum it up very well :D
