The Rio version is all about watching the people in Rio kick butt with a great song. I've only been to 3 of their concerts. I saw this tour in Las Vegas a couple of months before they went down to Brazil for the first time ever and recorded the whole concert on DVD. Rush delivers a great sounding show every time. But for this recording, it really is about partying with that audience.
@mattbaker5757 There was still some decent stuff in the 90's, a bit in the early 2000's. Around 2005 the Rock started fading and rap completely took over. I'm glad I was a teenager in the 70's. Got to see Queen, Led Zeppelin. The Who, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Judas Priest and a bunch of other bands at the top of their game.
I'd say until about '95 or so. Then the wheels fell off. Of course there are still talented individuals out there making music, but the age of BANDS has largely died.

2112 (like the year twenty one twelve) is their epic masterpiece. Watch By-Tor and The Snow Dog live from the Moving Pictures Tour. Basically, 168 of the greatest songs for your RUSH playlist! R.I.P. Neil Peart ❤
I remember as an early teen buying Rush's "Moving Pictures" and Led Zeppelin's "IV" albums at the local KMart with my buddy, Scott. Man, what a great afternoon jamming some amazing music!
YYZ is the airport code for Toronto's airport which was Home for Rush, and they would say zed. The repetitive rhythm at the start of the song is morse code for YYZ It is Y-Y-Z not yyz that was a joke at the end about people saying what is yyz. That was Alex and Geddy talking in the end.
I have have my Airman Certificate (airplane mechanic/electronics - 20+ years) and have been in commercial and private FBOs for work all across the U.S.A. After hearing Rush YYZ as a kid I've learned morse code and seek out the designators of airports.
Do you Mollyboy! Its your channel and your journey. It doesn't bother me at all. Infact, i absolutely 💯 think you outta do whatever you want. No stress...enjoy the ride! Todays the day! 40k excellent job!😁🤘〽️❤️🔥
Agreed. Do your own thing. It’s your channel and you are obviously doing it right as it’s grown so bloody quick and people love it and love you. Keep on rocking. !!!
Rush had so many major hits from each album over the years. It's so hard to choose a song to do next, so many great ones. Subdivisions, The Trees, Tom Sawyer, Limelight......
YYZ has always been one of my favorite Rush tracks, and it is very overlooked, imvho. I know exactly what you mean by listening to music and picking out little details that, for a reason you can't quite explain, just make you happy. Nothing else quite like it.
This track is literally the track I heard that turned me on to Rush years ago. If you find a live version you won't be disappointed. They do all this live and it's phenomenal.
I was 14 in 1984...a girl I knew gave me a copy of a Rush album to listen to before she left to tour Germany. A week before she gotback I still hadn't listened, but I wanted to give an honest review. So I listened to the entire album for two days. I'd never heard anything like it, before or since. There have a been a few bands that made my love of music grow beyond what I expected...like the first time hearing the Pixies, or Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground, or David Bowie, or even the Pogues...but there was nothing like Rush. So many songs are worth a deep dive that its challenging just to pick one. This one was a good pick...legendary...but even their weaker songs are moderately amazing. The truth is, even if you really do envy people who saw stuff like this live...we also envy you...because there is no exact replacement for the first time you hear it. Although I love Rush, I will never be young and hearing it that first time again, it has already permanently changed what I expect from a song. Your journey is just beginning...its really we who envy you. Enjoy every second of it.
I've both flown in and out of YYZ (Pearson) many times and attended a gig or two at Massey Hall (4:30). Some other cool landmarks in that animation. Originally, an Ontario lad. As much as I like Lee and Peart's performances in this song, I'm all about Lifeson's work.
Once again I'm really glad you did the studio version first, even though so many people seem to demand a live one. Hear the song the way it was painstakingly produced and then check out other versions. If you do get to 2112 (pronounced "twenty one twelve") strap in, it's a long one! Don't forget to eventually check out Neal's drum solo from Frankfort, it's life altering 🤯
Unsure yet if this is studio or live in Rio version. If studio, I hope you eventually do the live in Rio version. Rush has a lot of good songs, this one was recommended for the crowd energy in Rio :-)
We absolutely did have the best music! It's kinda cool watching you hear some of this shit for the first time, and having the same reaction as we did, 40 years ago. Another Brummie Rush fan 👍
Thanks for acknowledging us old farts! I genuinely enjoy watching the younger generations reacting to OUR generation's tunes. Ya missed out, but thankfully we've all got U-tube! Both of my sons are *huge* Rush fans, ad have been to 5 shows between them. For other bands from back in the day - Kansas, Boston, Pink Floid (Dark Side, especially Time), Gary Moore, OMG, and SO many more.... You've got your work cut out for ya, kiddo!
I first saw Rush at The Glasgow Apollo in 1978; they blew my mind then. And they still do every single time I hear them. I recently walked into a shop east Fife, Scotland, to the strains of a live version of Xanadu. I immediately exchanged Rush pleasantries with the shop owner before going with my friend to start buying local produce. Before I could get back to the counter? ‘Damn,’ I thought initially. The door opened and a bustle of excited primary school children came in with their teacher. Andy, for he was the proprietor, announced ‘hey kids!’ ‘What’s the most important day in December then?’ Of course I expected them to holler ‘Christmas!!!’ No, they all responded in unison ‘2112, Andy!!!’ Hell, my jaw dropped and I have rarely been closer to tears of joy in my entire life. A whole generation of Scottish kids are now growing up listening to Rush. Because of one band, and one man. Hats off, Andy, wherever you are now.
RUSH is best appreciated live. Whether you review it or not the Live In Rio performance of YYZ is a must see. Love your analysis and appreciation of the music. If you’re planning on doing a deep dive on Rush then I would suggest Limelight next. The best source of Rush videos is ‘Stickhits’ UA-cam channel. Audio and video have been remastered. Looking forward to your next Rush reaction (whatever it is!)!!
From a Gen-Xer, I appreciate your recognition of what we were blessed to listen to back in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Rush was phenomenal to see in concert. I was fortunate enough to see them five times.
hahaha< you had it right the second time "why why zed" The yizz at the end was a joke on how people first tried to pronounce the title. Not sure if you want to revisit any of these buy YYZ live in Rio and Working Man live in Cleveland are exceptional. I think Fly By Night or Anthem would be an awesome addition to your reaction list, keep up the great reactions.
Dude, I was born in 66, I appreciate your videos and your appreciation of music from "my" time. I did grow up in a wonderful music era. 1977 was an amazing year for rock n roll, really wish you could have been there and seen it. Imagine everyone in the audience focused on only the music, no one had phone's recording or flashing constantly. It really was wonderful. Todays "music" is NOTHING like it used to be.
I was 14 when I saw my first concert ever in '77. It was in Chi-town at the old Comiskey Park. It was called "Summer Jam" and AC/DC (w/Bon Scott), Aerosmith, Foreigner, and Mahogany Rush played. "Rocks" came out not long before so "Back In The Saddle" was pretty new at the time. Angus was jamming on either Malcom's or Bon Scotts shoulder's, I don't remember. He was possessed playing on his back, driving everyone crazy. Foreigner was absolutely brand new to everyone so that was cool. I was looking for an exact date earlier and I guess Walter Magnet & Steel Egan was also there but I do not remember him at all. I guess even the weak $30 a "lid" Columbian poopie weed (4% thc) still did its job :)
As I drove over the Canadian border at Niagara in I think 2002, having been to see Yes play in Philadelphia the night before? The Toronto Tower hoved into view in the distance. What came on the local radio station? Yup. YYZ! The sun was shining. I was with incredible friends. And we rocked!
You're gonna love the bass when you get around to 2112. Do the cartoon comic book version as it will help you understand the 25 min long story the first time.
I went to several Rush concerts in the 70s and 80s. They got better every time I saw them. If you watch a video of their live performance, notice how they play the sound effects WITH THEIR FEET!! So fricking talented.
Getting older with music is sort of a spiritual thing with me. Like, I've been listening to YYZ for 43 years. It floored me the first time I heard it and it still speaks to me every time. The composition mixed with all the memories gives me a feeling I can't fully define. But it is joyful. And it's like that with all my favorite music. I hope you have the same experience in the future with the music you love now. I dig your enthusiasm. Hello from Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
Declan, I grew up listening to these dudes from the mid 1970s, and had the privilege of seeing them in concert in 1980. To this day they are a favorite. I envy you your journey of just now discovering them. Our generation was truly blessed with this music. Enjoy.
As a Boomer, I can say we had great music because we were forced, through Radio and Variety Shows to listen to ALL genres. Younger generations don't have easy access to music that is different, or unfamiliar.
Neil Peart is the best EVER. YYZ is so powerful.. . These are real artists . Keep on keepin on son. 💪. Proud of you 😎... Legendary reaction 👊. This was my very first concert.... The standard was set so high.. you are true rocker at heart. FYI
that was awesome!!! so much Rush yet to come!!! "Working Man" is so freeking good...I know you'll get to it...can't wait! Prog Rock is a really interesting and amazing rabbit hole to go down... Yes, Rush, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Electric Light Orchestra, so many others...you've already hit a ton of Pink Floyd which was awesome...some say they are the greatest prog band ever...
Closer to the heart Limelight Working man Fly by Night, some of the radio hits 2112 Xanadu The Necromancer By Tor and The Snow dog some deeper dive stuff🤘
It is Y Y Zed, not yizz. That's a joke because many people don't know what YYZ is. It's the airport code for the airport in Toronto, Ontario (their home town) and the intro is the guidance beacon pattern. When flying back from wherever, they knew they were close to home when they heard it. Limelight, Fly By Night, Red Barchetta, Subdivisions, Working Man, Big Money, Time Stand Still are all popular songs by them that are a good start to exploring Rush. I'd also suggest the video of YYZ live in Rio, something from their Time Machine tour and Spirit of the Radio from the 2003 SARS benefit concert in Toronto
I'm 57 and my best friend is a couple of years younger. He'd never been to a Rush concert but had been listening for years. We went to their concert and I was more excited that he was seeing them for the first time than actually seeing them for myself. Watching your among others reactions give me that same feeling. Thanks
DO MORE RUSH!! I'm from Toronto, Canada 🇨🇦 and I've seen them in concert several times before Neil passed away ( R.I.P.) and nothing is better than listening to them for the first time in reactions like yours! Watch Neil Peart's drum solo next please ...it will show you just how incredible he is. Thanks for the RUSH reactions. Keep smiling👍🙂
YYZ are the letters for the Toronto Pierson International Airport.. I live in Calgary, YYC! Thanks for another great reaction video! RUSH was so popular in my era and they still are today. Thanks MollyBoy!
@8:30 I do agree. I think that the 50 years 60s through 2000s were probably the golden age of music. There are exceptions and some good modern things that come out occasionally, but it's the electronic/digital aspect of most modern music that I think is just kind of souless.
Can't get enough Rush, especially the early stuff... You REALLY don't know how DEEP this journey will take you.... "Progressive Rock" groups are so sweet to listen to.... I am very happy for you!

**Perfect** YAY
Discovered RUSH at 12 yrs old, they were a huge part of the soundtrack of my teenage years and still today. And thank you for the compliment.
Thanks for that 👍🏻
I have have my Airman Certificate (airplane mechanic/electronics - 20+ years) and have been in commercial and private FBOs for work all across the U.S.A. After hearing Rush YYZ as a kid I've learned morse code and seek out the designators of airports.
but did they pronounce it zed or zee?
@@reedhoule3045 ZED as most of the world, kan't confuse it with E.
LOL, Yizz :D
Buckle up young lad.... The rabbit hole is deep with this group
Working man, spirit of radio, closer to the heart, all great songs
Do you Mollyboy! Its your channel and your journey. It doesn't bother me at all. Infact, i absolutely 💯 think you outta do whatever you want. No stress...enjoy the ride! Todays the day! 40k excellent job!😁🤘〽️❤️🔥
Agreed. Do your own thing. It’s your channel and you are obviously doing it right as it’s grown so bloody quick and people love it and love you. Keep on rocking. !!!
Great comment... His journey is only just beginning.
Nothing else quite like it.
what a treat to see you enjoy this so much!
This track is literally the track I heard that turned me on to Rush years ago.
If you find a live version you won't be disappointed. They do all this live and it's phenomenal.
The Rio Live in concert is an absolute mind”gasm”!!!!
YYZ - Live in RIO is a MUST!!!!! Most hype crowd ever!
I’m going to be doing both studio and live versions of songs
Another.Instrumental - La.Villa Strangiato. Album version, for the Spanish guitar intro...
And it is Y-Y-Zed. Yizz.== taking the pizz ;)
RUSH IS CLASSIC♥️👍🎶
LIMELIGHT and FLY BY NIGHT are fantastic 👍🎧
LETS GOOO!!! THE GOATS, RUSH!!!
We absolutely did have the best music! It's kinda cool watching you hear some of this shit for the first time, and having the same reaction as we did, 40 years ago.
Another Brummie Rush fan 👍
Yes, yes we did lol. Try Red Barchetta...It kicks ass!
MAS TER PIE CE!
Wanna another instrumental banger? Try 2112.
Keep rockin. Peace
Soliloquy solo is a masterpiece
Andy, for he was the proprietor, announced ‘hey kids!’ ‘What’s the most important day in December then?’ Of course I expected them to holler ‘Christmas!!!’
No, they all responded in unison ‘2112, Andy!!!’
Hell, my jaw dropped and I have rarely been closer to tears of joy in my entire life.
As others have said. Definitely need to see live in rio
Your Rush journey will be fun to watch
La Villa Strangiato is an instrumental beast!! Also has the great production this has.
From a Gen-Xer, I appreciate your recognition of what we were blessed to listen to back in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Rush was phenomenal to see in concert. I was fortunate enough to see them five times.
you need to see rush do yyz live in rio amazing dude
Yes! The live version of YYZ in Rio!!! Not just the music but the visuals are outstanding!!!
I’m jealous your hearing this for the first time 😎
hahaha< you had it right the second time "why why zed" The yizz at the end was a joke on how people first tried to pronounce the title. Not sure if you want to revisit any of these buy YYZ live in Rio and Working Man live in Cleveland are exceptional. I think Fly By Night or Anthem would be an awesome addition to your reaction list, keep up the great reactions.
This is an instrumental, unless you are Live in Rio… then suddenly the audience is singing lyrics we never knew existed 😂
You're Awesome for sharing this & I'm lucky enough to see them 4 times ❤😊 Thank you!
Enjoy! And I know you will. 😊
Zz top - la grange
🤘😎🤘
Do part 2 of this, Live in Rio. Watch the biggest crowd you've ever seen "sing along" with an instrumental.
I bet this blows your mind.
Love your reaction.....YYZ IS AIRPORT CODE FOR TORONTO!
Highly recommend Xanadu live Exit Stage Left
Absolutely a must
As I drove over the Canadian border at Niagara in I think 2002, having been to see Yes play in Philadelphia the night before? The Toronto Tower hoved into view in the distance.
What came on the local radio station? Yup. YYZ! The sun was shining. I was with incredible friends. And we rocked!
You're gonna love the bass when you get around to 2112. Do the cartoon comic book version as it will help you understand the 25 min long story the first time.
Great tip
I went to several Rush concerts in the 70s and 80s. They got better every time I saw them. If you watch a video of their live performance, notice how they play the sound effects WITH THEIR FEET!! So fricking talented.
Red Barchetta. You will love the imagery of both the lyrics and the music.
My fav
Rush were truly masters of their instruments. The technical skill, IMO, is unmatched.
Hope it's RIO!
Next working man live from Cleveland
I don't know much by Rush so i get to enjoy it with you
Saw this live on R40 tour! Rush is an amazing band! 3 guys and all that sound!
This might be my new favorite reaction. Your genuine love for music shows here perfectly. Congratulations on 40k❤🤘
FYI
I was in drumline in high school in 89, and we all strived to play this, Neil peart is the man!!
that was awesome!!! so much Rush yet to come!!!
Closer to the heart
Limelight
Working man
Fly by Night, some of the radio hits
2112
Xanadu
The Necromancer
By Tor and The Snow dog some deeper dive stuff🤘
Welcome! This rabbit hole is DEEP! You have only scratched the surface with this band…carry on!
Arguably the best bassist and drummer ever. And this song sums the two of them up perfectly 👌
I personally would have hated growing up with todays music.... I got to see Rush live 53 times.... I'm 62 now.... Our music was so very much better!
Thank you for recognizing and acknowledging the amazing music from our generation! That genuine appreciation got my sub.
Drummer here and yeah, Geddy's Bass lines are KILLER!!!!
Woohoo, one of the best band s ever!! Dude, you need to see the live in Rio!!
We only know how spoiled we were with our music by looking back.
It was all extraordinary. So many creative artists!
@8:30 I do agree. I think that the 50 years 60s through 2000s were probably the golden age of music. There are exceptions and some good modern things that come out occasionally, but it's the electronic/digital aspect of most modern music that I think is just kind of souless.
I grew up in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Music was so diverse. Analog at its finest. The music recording in general was rich and organic.
So many mixed tapes I had to record from the radio 🤘🏽😎
One of the best instrumentals in the history of rock.
Can't get enough Rush, especially the early stuff...
You REALLY don't know how DEEP this journey will take you....
"Progressive Rock" groups are so sweet to listen to....
I am very happy for you!
Just the tone of the bass makes me tear-up. The producer "squeezed it" perfectly.
Best Metal Instrumental Song? Inquisition Simphony by Sepultura. 🤘
If you want another fantastic Rush instrumental it's called La Villa Strangiato.
And Again "The March of S.O.D./Sergent D." by S.O.D. (Antrhrax + Billy Milano on vocals) Group born to mess around and have fun, become more legendary!!
Will forever love Rush being a Canuck...nothing but instruments of greatness. Great reaction Mol and big congratulations on the 40k...👍🇨🇦🇬🇧
Yes we sure did have the best ever music! Never to be matched!
The hours I spent putting a mix tape together from the radio 🤘🏽😎
