Bambu P1S user here. Bambu got me into 3D printing after giving up years ago due to terrible user experience of Creality. Now I can just print, without screwing around! Brilliant!
My x1c has almost 3000 hours. I’m blown away by the reliability and function of the x1c. Bambu is a paradigm shift and will bring a revolution to hyper local manufacturing or home use.
I would love to have a larger x1c for sure. There are some practical limits to belt driven corexy systems to retain the speed and quality, so I get it. That said, I love my x1c and I ordered an A1. The A1 is going to be my PLA/PETG machine, focused on day to day prints and hopefully a little quieter than my x1c. The x1c is going to be loaded out with ASA for when I need more durable prints or UV stable things. What I love about the x1c (and hopefully the A1) is that my hobby finally is 3D printing, not 3D printers. I got tired of fiddling with everything as I went through no fewer than 10 other printers.
imo they need a p1p that has that 42-50cm build volume. everybody i've seen who buys a big printer is mostly there to print big PLA. They want clockwork containers, swords and mandalorian helmets. People need to stop pretending functional industrial parts are a consideration for these printers lol 😅
@@knifeyonline I just want a bigger bed so that my multicolour prints can go from 4 prints with 200g waste to 9 or more prints with 200g waste The waste per print avg would go down significantly I now have the P1P which I have used for full bed multi colour prints with over 40pcs on there That avg waste was more than acceptable But I'll always want that number to go down 😅
Personally I would love a larger P1S at a minimum 300x300x300. My thoughts on the A1 its going to be hard to beat. It was not too long ago that people settled for changing just about every part on a 3D printer just to make it work like it should have in the first place. I can't wait for what the future holds from Bambu and this is only the beginning.
I think you’re onto something. I’m currently rocking a i3 clone that is so covered in mods and upgrades that something always needs fiddled with. I’m building a Voron, and ended up grabbing an A1 to knock out those parts quicker, and a little more painlessly. With a brim and a little time to let the bed heat soak properly, it’ll print ABS and ASA with no problems
Added to printers with an A1 mini recently, and it's brilliant. Motors silent after calibration, no imperfections on the walls and firmware outclasses everything else I've used by a mile. Great machines and about to order one of these now.
I really enjoyed this video. I know at some level it may have been hard for you to make as you have personal relationships in other camps, but I think you provided a fair look at where this printer is targeted and who it is targeted at. One of the more impressive things you said was that it was not just a beginner machine and I agree. As a previous owner of Prusa printers, I now own several Bambu printers including 3 x1c's. And to be honest my favorite is the A1 mini. It's quiet, super simple to set up, and never gives me any problems whatsoever. So I'm looking forward to receiving my X1 as well. I consider myself an advanced 3D printer and have contributed models on both printables and makeerworld, and I really think this printer is a home run. It will be especially interesting to see if people start to build their own print farms based on this printer as it surely is affordable and significantly faster than other printers that fill up most print farms. I have the A1 Mini and just a few days ago I had 2 instances where their tension system worked great, one was where halfway my ptfe tube the filament broke, and it immediately detected it, and the second was where a spool got tangled it a bit. Now I will say it kept pulling so I kept hearing the filament being pulled out under another piece of filament, but as it got tighter and tighter, it pauzed and told me it seems to be stuck. Because of the way the printer works with the AMS, it just neatly purged some filament when it could go again and you simply cannot see where it paused. It's a fantastic system.
My friend wanted to get his first 3d printer because his son was interested and he wants to do some functional prints for his workshop. He was waiting to order the A1 mini because the price point for multicolor, but after your live stream, that I got halfway through before it went unlisted, I told him the full A1 is a better choice depending on the price and I think it's a great choice. I wished they were more open source, but for new people who just want things to work, I understand the tradeoff.
The A1 will be the first cost I make when starting my business I have other printers as a hobby now including a P1P But I like the fact that the A1 is open which means more space to work on I think the A1 xl is coming as the next machine It would only make sense
I'm still running an Ender 3 I bought years ago for really cheap and it still works well for what it is. But man, every time I see what the newer printers are capable of I'm really tempted to start setting money aside for one every time I see them get cheaper.
I've been using an Ender 3 Pro since they came out. I just pulled the trigger on this A1. I think it will be a huge upgrade and even if I don't use it often for multicolor, I can and that's a big deal for me.
I'm still on my ender 5 which I upgraded a lot, but I think it's time to move on, I need more print speed and ideally bigger build volume. Build volume is the only thing that still keeps me from buying A1 as I hope they will announce the XL printer any time soon, everyone knows it's coming so I don't want to pull the trigger too soon.

A1 Max To be honest enclosed printers are more for things like higher temp filaments like abs, I love the Core XY system, like my P1S and K1 Max but i also Have a Neptune 4 Plus but if i was honest Id rather have that size with the tech of Bambu Lab.
The trouble is once you start getting the basics under your belt you will want to experience with different filaments. So eventually you will need an enclosed system. Don't believe me try printing abs or carbon fiber. This thing will destroy prusa
I got the mini, I wanted something small to put next to me on the desk. I was ... BLOWN AWAY. Truly plug and play, no muss no fuss, just press slice ... and press send. And I have had a couple 3d printers over the years. Ok experiences on most (i do check reviews first) but the A1 mini (and I am sure this one too) are just insane. Haven't used the AMS lite yet mind (like I said I want a small one for on the desk so for now the AMS is just in case I want it later).
It’s great to see this level of integration and ease-of-use coming to the consumer market. Bambu is pushing all of us to innovate and to think more about the total user experience, and that’s a good thing! We’ll probably get one for the lab, not to reverse-engineer or to copy its features, but to appreciate and keep as a source of inspiration, especially in the realm of first-time setup - something we in the land of RepRaps could definitely improve upon.
Indeed. I literally commented that this printer will do a good job and someone said "real hobbiest would never buy an A1". Besides gatekeeping, I really think there is alack of attention paid to UX. I want to find a model and hit print. Give me the advanced setting so I can manually slice thing and configure them. But let things scale between the person who wants a Kuerig and the person who wants an artisanal blend via a pour over and $800 Burr grinder. A lot of it is software, so that kind of range is possible, if by different software packages.
they already reverse engineered printers and scooped every open source project in existence and made everything closed source so it's invisible. They climbed up on the shoulders of Prusa and Voron design to put as little as possible R&D into the final product. Nothing to merit inspiration from here. They will still win as it is impossible for any western company to keep up with this pricing.
Very glad that's how you feel about it, same here. Just ordered one, but I hope to make it obsolete quite quickly by converting most of my print farm to IDEX, and I want to benchmark printing with dissimilar supports on the Bambu vs. in-house machines.

I feel that Bambu should offer a large format CoreXY box. It's what the community needs right now. The Bambu A1 looks like a nice beginner PLA printer. It's got the potential to be the Ender3 Killer, but only time will tell. Robust usage will determine the A1 legacy.
Good review and exactly what I have been thinking. I have a Bambu X1 Carbon with AMS, a P1P that I enclosed, two Rat Rigs and just got my 5 head Prusa XL running. I think Bambu needs to drop the P1P and the A1 Mini, the A1 is almost the same price and should be the entry level. The next printer needs to be the large flagship and a have at least a 400 mm cube core x-y and be enclosed. They have done many things right and have been able to deliver on their products. The Prusa was ordered two years ago and arrived last month, for now it has no completion in the way it can switch filaments, but I see that changing quickly. I am afraid that Bambu may go the way of Creality and have 92 versions of the same printer.
I was going to upgrade my mk3s to the mk4 version, but this is less expensive than the upgrade kit when you consider the time investment. Very tempting.
Same here, felt like "Presenting printer No. 2315". I am printing now since 5 years on a old marlin modell and dont feel the need to change. Maybe because I printed it all and now it is a functional tool next to screw drivers. Running maybe once a month. With that said, I think 3D printing for private purpose follows the same pattern and after some time - it's over for many owners. At the same time, I dont expect for FDM printers any new stuff as speeds are getting limited by the nozzle nowadays. Propably the low budget versions will get upgrades to match the professional once and thats it. The only area I still see potential is to develope better filaments. This A1 is a good example how things have changed. First printers are like steampunk machines and new ones are like laserprinters. This hobby is about tweaking and improving but the A1 is not supposed for that. So sooner the later this "hobby" will dry out.
Considering that people have been asking for a bigger printer and BambuLab showed up bed slingers, I wouldn't be surprised if their next model is a delta printer.
@@dtibor5903 I think it's more a case of people looking at the X1 and P1 and going "wow these are great value, if you can do one at this size for that price I'd pay a bit more for an even bigger one". With the whole AMS setup a larger printer becomes very valuable for people who mass produce prints (especially multi color) as it means more prints per plate, which translates into filament wasttage being halved for every extra model you can fit on the bed. I for example sell a few bits and one of my models has a very simple color change half way through. I can fit 4 of these in an X1. If I could fit 8 on an X1XL that would cut my filament per item costs in half, not to mention would allow faster print and shipping times due to being able to do more at a time.
A large format P2S combo with a screen like A1 and new features from A1 such as automatic flow control and quick hotend swaps would be the perfect machine. I would be pretty upset to buy my P1S combo and not wait for the dream machine but the dream machine P2S combo would be the only machine every 3d enthusiast would die to have.

Hey! Bambu A1 user here. Despite what Nathan Builds Robots has said, this has basically been one of the best things since sliced bread. I was so done with other printers, being annoying and breaking all the time, the I got this. It’s like I’m back into day 1 with printing - so much printing! I’m running outta filament! Lol
My A1 is getting processed now. I am hoping to get it by Christmas, however I probably won't. I ordered blue gradient pla for it to run the benchy and things like that. This is a great opportunity for me and I hope it works out.
Joel, in his interview with Stefan from CNC Kitchen, Dr. Tao said they would be bringing out a larger version of the X1C in 2024. He mentioned it was under development.
Agree Bambu gives you a high speed capable bed slinger out of the box. No tinkering required. Creality may be cheaper but it’s not high speed out the box and once you factor in the upgrades the Bambu already has it’s a no brainer. The Bambu is the first viable everyday household 3D printer.
Bought an A1 Mini with the AMS & compaerd to my Ender 5 it's mind blowing the options I now have. When I saw that the A1 mini had 2 power ports it looks easy enough to make a lager block for the head & it wouldn't take Bambu much work to modify the software. For the next version Maybe a A1 Max with 2 heads & 2 AMS systems. It would allow for tandem prints or 8 colour single models. Having two heads would also cut down on the poop as it wouldn't need to purge as much. It's good that I can use the Bambu Studio to slice for my Ender so I don't need to keep swapping between softwares & the quality is better on the Ender compared with Simplyfy I was using before. Can't wait to see what they do next.
Hey Joel, Im a little late to the party - Just not getting around to watching this. I wanted to mention that I honestly think this is the best video on the A1 I have seen. It is VERY easy to digest because there are not really any tech heavy discussions here. It is merely, here's the printer, what I have printed, and this is what I think the future looks like. I actually think this is a really good format for a product everyone already knows is top tier. Specs are largely irrelevant when there isn't really a competitor.
When the A1-Mini came out I was hesitant because i wanted something bigger and bam here we are. As a new hobbyist with less than 5 months printing and 3 printers I am very much on the verge of selling one to get this bad boy.
I still think it will be hilarious if they come out with an A1 Max before a large P1 printer. Edit: Just wanna note I left this comment way before you brought this up near the end, hahaha.
My P1S is just so reliable I never even watch the first layer.. which is scary to think of. I'm just happy they're still pushing the price lower and lower. Nobody is safe lol. I would love a fully enclosed CoreXY beast but if they end up making a huge bed slinger that's reliable, I will be very impressed.
I don't know which way they should go with a larger format machine but I HOPE they go corexy. I have a CR10S4 and the bed slingers of this size just take up so much space front to back.
Wow! If I had a 3D printer company just putting out the latest "ender clone", I'd be packing things in pretty soon, or start innovating because your days are numbered. I"ve only had my X1 for a few weeks, and I never want to touch any of my old printers. The X1C, while not perfect, is so far ahead in user experience and quality of prints than every printer I've used over the last 18 years. I am really hoping for an X1C style Bambu just at 400x400x400 mm minimum. Definitely not less than 350mm in each dimension. I'd love a much better camera (though the one in the X1C is OK, it can't focus on all parts of the bed and could use some other improvements), and really importantly, I'd love for them to use tool changing instead of a 1 nozzle solution, or at least get the color change time down to 30 seconds or less. I'm not doing nearly as much color printing as I expected because of how time consuming it is. Obviously the separate tools would lead to less plastic waste as well. I'd love for Bambu to come up with a replacement hot end that has much easier to change the size of the nozzles on the X1X. While I'm up for buying a new printer if it's bigger, I'm not buying one just so I can swatch nozzles easier. And improving the flow would be great as well. High-5!
HI I wanted to make an enclosure for the A1 bamboo because I have a room at 16°C and I had thought of making the walls with "non-woven fabric" (that is, the fabric that is put on plants in winter) so that the machine can breathe but at the same time have a temperature that is more or less acceptable for printing. I think that electronics don't have any problems ps. I will only use pla and petg what do you think?
I really hope they go with core xy. An A1Max worries me, going that fast on a bed slinger with a build plate that large (assuming 300+, but would want 400mm from bambu). Would be nuts. I’m sure it’s doable, but I just trust core xy more at speed.
Hopefully a larger machine (310mm+) will be CoreXY and utilize the existing hardware components (so I don't need to stock a new line of replacement parts for every iteration) along with the current expandable full AMS system. Not wanting to get "Bambuzeled", or one to follow the hype, I hesitated until recently to purchase the P1S while waiting for a larger format machine, but in hindsight think it is the best machine and value I have purchased to date!
Can the finishing layer(s) be slowed down to get fully glossy eyes? Also, can it be slowed down to give the rest of the models a different sheen? Really appreciated this video, but that part I didn’t really grasp (I’m dipping my feet into the world of 3D printing and don’t know if this is possible).
Question: In terms of capabilities, can the multiple feeders be used to automatically switch filament when one feed's run stops? I would think this would be a great way to handle larger print jobs when you have limited filament left on a roll... just let it run out and the printer could switch to a secondary roll (potentially of the same kind of filament). Curious if this can be done automatically with the A1.
@Joel, would you be able to set up a custom material profile? I have been printing with SBS and absolutely love it, not hydroscopic, which transforms my casual printing experience as I now have a rainbow of colours without faffing about drying filament. It is somewhat soft and had to tune my cura profile over time to the point where it is wonderful and a great replacement for pla. Considering that my UMO+ (albeit upgraded) and Ender 3Spro’s are such wonderful workhorses, I am aware that they are aging and faster tech and features are amazing, hemce my filament question. Congrats for the video. Regarding the question of the large format printer, whether bad slinger or coreXY, in my opinion they will do both if they want to defeat the competition. If we look at the timing aspect, making a bed slinger is much easier to make than the other option. Regarding the coreXY, seeing the interview on the cnc kitchen channel with the CEO of Bambu Lab, I understood that they don't want to create an X1XL, but they want to create an XL with new technology and improvements compared to the X1. This means that it will take some time before it can be released on the market So, reluctantly, I think the bad slinger comes out first.
I have to say, you nailed this review. Don't hate, I aways feel you speak on script on a few reviews I've watched but you sound like you didn't read a script on this and spoke freely and honestly on this one. Having one of these and x1c's and other brands tho, you nailed this one. They really set out to dominate the market.

I have used an A1 along side my old mk3 and mk4. I really feel like this is taking aim at the Prusa market. If you are looking at the mk4 or 2-3 a1 machines, go for the a1 machines. They scale really well. I have purchased like 5 of these for my print farm. They never clog or fail. They sent me an email for a recall on my first a1 and they sent me a total refund, and I bought the upgraded model shortly after. Everything I order from Bambu shows up in 2-3 days whereas the Prusa kits show up in MONTHS of lead time. I find the print quality to not only rival that of the mk4, but totally surpasses it. It is a LOT faster as well with all the sensors inside of it. The mk4, lacks those sensors. So if you are on the fence, and have about $1k to spend get the a1, get a ton of filament, or get 2-3 a1 machines and run a farm. I never used the AMS as I never bought one, though I might invest in an AMS at some point, it is just not something I am sold on, as every multi-color print tends to look strange. I have been 3d printing for YEARS, going through several creality machines, and other chinesium brand machines, the mk2, mk3, mk4. The a1 really brings 3d printing to everyone with linear rails and nothing is cheap on this printer aside from the price. Is it the best 3d printer money can buy? No. But pit it against a $2000 printer and you would be hard pressed to want more. Enter the $5000 market and thats where the a1 starts to show it's cracks, but the fact that it can even hold a candle to a $5000 printer at $400 is just insane to me.
I have been building 3D Printers since 2015. I own now a X1C. A cheaper 10 inch³ Printer is the Answer to the Question what to buy for a Beginner. Yes it cost twice the price of a Cheap Bedslinger but as someone who owns 1 1/2 broken Ender 3, and several Linear Bearing Printers which didn't broke, if the A1 has the endurance of a X1C then it is for times the printer. Most Cheap Printers print the first 100 hours good, then they need maintenance, after 200 hours heavy Maintenance, after 500 hours replacement parts. My X1C worked in the X-Mas season for 6 weeks 500 hours and get it's first Maintenance. My last Ender 3 pro had in his X-Mas season, got for just printing, about 300 hours and i had to replace the bed bearings. Software is good. I compare the Bambu Labs X1C to Voron 2.4 and this looks like a Switchwire. The competition is on. I hope for a 16 inch Printer from Bambu Labs or a 14 inch, instrestingly the Bambu Slicer supports my Tronxy X5SA 400 16 inch, so i only have to export to Octoprint and can use the same Software. So maybe 16 inch Bambu XL is comming.
So I'm still fairly new to 3D printing. I can make my own models in blender and I have an Elegoo Mars 3 pro that Ive had good results with. But is this a good entry point for filament printers? I've looked at so many and a lot of them seem like old cars that I have to upgrade and swap parts and invest so much extra cash just to get them running. Is there an out of the box filament printer? Sorry if thats a dumb question.
I got my A1 mini two days after the release of the A1, form what I hear these two printers are pretty much the same except for size. Would printing with complicated filaments such as PETG or ASA have the same success as it did with the A1 as seen in this video????
I think that bambu labs will drop their first large format printer as a corexy but I think they will drop it with the best qualities of both the A1 and the carbon because adding the certain upgrades on the A1 such as the quick change nozzle I think will be a standard from here on out and then later on we will get a large format bed slinger
Both my X1C’s have over 3000hrs on them, I love them. I’d like a slightly larger machine so I could do bigger wall art, helmets, and or car parts or larger models.

Bambu first changed the game with the X1C and the AMS system. Now they are here to completely take over EVERY Market Segment. You want a commercial grade printer X1E. You need a speedy Core XY that can print advanced filaments P1S. You want Multicolor, AMS and AMS Lite add on. You want lower price but same quality A1 series.
I am just a hobbyist, so I doubt I will buy another printer (I have a P1P) but I think the 3d printing industry was in stagnation until Bambu Lab came along, and now everyone is scrambling to catch up. Hopefully, Bambu Lab will continue to support the P1Ps that are currently in the ecosystem, which shouldn't be too hard since they have the P1S. Now, maybe they will work on customer service, although the majority my printing issues have been self-inflicted.
Bambu should create a k1 max competitor. The k1 max would be a go to but the ability of the bambu printer to do multi color I feel is better then the size difference
I suspect that they’ll turn out an A1-max (or A2, A+, ?) next, and wait to make a larger enclosed corexy until they know how the X1-E sells. I think a larger enclosed machine (aka preassembled large cube) would be prohibitive because of shipping and other logistics unless they were for a commercial/industrial customer that wouldn’t scoff at the additional expense.
Given Bambu's ability to listen its users and what they want I'm guessing that the next release will be the Bambu Lab D1 Maxi: a linear rail-powered delta printer with a 250mm diameter 120C bed, 400mm build height, and a print head made from ecofriendly renewable rice.
I guess I would love to see a 300x300 P1S. Going larger already increases footprint and a core xy is just more space efficient. The P1S is already both a larger build plate and smaller overall size, especially in depth, than my current 235x235 bedslinger. All things staying much the same I'm looking to get a P1s at some point in the new year. What I really think would be great would be to see the technical advances of the A1 hotend and filament monitoring being ported over to an updated X1 and P1 line.

I has discounted the printer when other reviewers stated that the maximum bed temperature was 80C. Your coverage indicates the maximum temperature to be 100C and checking the specs on the Bambu Lab's www site the temperature is listed as 100C. Back into consideration.
I just ordered mine yesterday the A1. I`m new to 3d printing. I have an ender 3s1 and 5s1 both with Sonic pads. Having a lot of issues with the 5s1. I'm so excited to be able to run multi color prints. Thats why I ordered this one. I hope it's going to be a good experience and I hope to be able to do multi color prints pretty easily. We will see...lol
@KingziKingz I love my A1. It's so fast and no complaints so far. The only thing is it moves sooooooo fast unless you have a very sturdy table you may need to slow it down a bit. Prints are great at high speed but I have another printer on same table and it has made the print on the other machine fail because of the table shaking...lol
I would to see how Bambu would built an IDEX printer. I print a lot with soluble suppport and that setup would better than the current offering. Plus in you get better output when using duplicating mode.
I have 2 x ender 3 s1 pros running klipper, K1 Max (microswiss hotend upgraded), 2x ender 3 v1 - modded to buggery, cr10s pro - modded to buggery. Popped my Bambu cherry and Ordered my A1 with AMS today.... i'm excited! :D
I'd love for them to make a large format core XY machine but given cost and whatnot I'd expect their first large format printer to be a large scale bed slinger that is just a scaled up version of the A1. They should totally call it the B1 for obvious reasons.
Hi, Ive never worked with bambu lab machine, can I ask you if the material swap system can do multi material printing? not just multi color. i got mixed answer for this
Are you doing alright Joel? You sound kind of tired. I think the A1 looks pretty great. I decided to get it for my dad for Christmas. He's been interested in getting into it, and this is the cheapest way to get multicolor printing at a standard size.
Besides the printer, how much should i expect to spend on top in stuff like filament as a new user, first time buyer? I know that's based on what i print, etc, but what's a good estimate on what i'd need for my first month or 3 months?
So this thing is a Prusa Mk4 fighter at around half the price... As someone who was about to order a Prusa Mk 4 with its MMU, is there any reason NOT to buy this instead?

Bambu P1S user here. Bambu got me into 3D printing after giving up years ago due to terrible user experience of Creality. Now I can just print, without screwing around! Brilliant!
Hey, bambu p1s user aswell! Since when do you print with it and do you have troubles with the extruder?
My x1c has almost 3000 hours. I’m blown away by the reliability and function of the x1c. Bambu is a paradigm shift and will bring a revolution to hyper local manufacturing or home use.

I would love to have a larger x1c for sure. There are some practical limits to belt driven corexy systems to retain the speed and quality, so I get it. That said, I love my x1c and I ordered an A1. The A1 is going to be my PLA/PETG machine, focused on day to day prints and hopefully a little quieter than my x1c. The x1c is going to be loaded out with ASA for when I need more durable prints or UV stable things. What I love about the x1c (and hopefully the A1) is that my hobby finally is 3D printing, not 3D printers. I got tired of fiddling with everything as I went through no fewer than 10 other printers.

imo they need a p1p that has that 42-50cm build volume. everybody i've seen who buys a big printer is mostly there to print big PLA. They want clockwork containers, swords and mandalorian helmets. People need to stop pretending functional industrial parts are a consideration for these printers lol 😅

The waste per print avg would go down significantly
I now have the P1P which I have used for full bed multi colour prints with over 40pcs on there
That avg waste was more than acceptable
But I'll always want that number to go down 😅
Personally I would love a larger P1S at a minimum 300x300x300. My thoughts on the A1 its going to be hard to beat. It was not too long ago that people settled for changing just about every part on a 3D printer just to make it work like it should have in the first place. I can't wait for what the future holds from Bambu and this is only the beginning.

I think you’re onto something. I’m currently rocking a i3 clone that is so covered in mods and upgrades that something always needs fiddled with. I’m building a Voron, and ended up grabbing an A1 to knock out those parts quicker, and a little more painlessly. With a brim and a little time to let the bed heat soak properly, it’ll print ABS and ASA with no problems
Added to printers with an A1 mini recently, and it's brilliant. Motors silent after calibration, no imperfections on the walls and firmware outclasses everything else I've used by a mile. Great machines and about to order one of these now.
I really enjoyed this video. I know at some level it may have been hard for you to make as you have personal relationships in other camps, but I think you provided a fair look at where this printer is targeted and who it is targeted at. One of the more impressive things you said was that it was not just a beginner machine and I agree. As a previous owner of Prusa printers, I now own several Bambu printers including 3 x1c's. And to be honest my favorite is the A1 mini. It's quiet, super simple to set up, and never gives me any problems whatsoever. So I'm looking forward to receiving my X1 as well. I consider myself an advanced 3D printer and have contributed models on both printables and makeerworld, and I really think this printer is a home run. It will be especially interesting to see if people start to build their own print farms based on this printer as it surely is affordable and significantly faster than other printers that fill up most print farms. Thanks again for your insights.
I have the A1 Mini and just a few days ago I had 2 instances where their tension system worked great, one was where halfway my ptfe tube the filament broke, and it immediately detected it, and the second was where a spool got tangled it a bit. Now I will say it kept pulling so I kept hearing the filament being pulled out under another piece of filament, but as it got tighter and tighter, it pauzed and told me it seems to be stuck.
Because of the way the printer works with the AMS, it just neatly purged some filament when it could go again and you simply cannot see where it paused. It's a fantastic system.
This is a shot across the bow. Good. As someone who has suffered the Prusa MMU2 making my printer completely unusable, I look forward to this printer.
You said there was a mistake about bed temp but you fixed it seamlessly. Excellent work Joel 😁
My friend wanted to get his first 3d printer because his son was interested and he wants to do some functional prints for his workshop.
He was waiting to order the A1 mini because the price point for multicolor, but after your live stream, that I got halfway through before it went unlisted, I told him the full A1 is a better choice depending on the price and I think it's a great choice. I wished they were more open source, but for new people who just want things to work, I understand the tradeoff.
The A1 will be the first cost I make when starting my business
I have other printers as a hobby now including a P1P
But I like the fact that the A1 is open which means more space to work on
I think the A1 xl is coming as the next machine
It would only make sense

I'm still running an Ender 3 I bought years ago for really cheap and it still works well for what it is. But man, every time I see what the newer printers are capable of I'm really tempted to start setting money aside for one every time I see them get cheaper.
Do it, I had a origianl cr-10 and upgraded to the p1p. It's such an upgrade i cant tell you how glad i am i switched.
I think that the A1 is going to become the Ender 3 for the everyman.
I've been using an Ender 3 Pro since they came out. I just pulled the trigger on this A1. I think it will be a huge upgrade and even if I don't use it often for multicolor, I can and that's a big deal for me.
I'm still on my ender 5 which I upgraded a lot, but I think it's time to move on, I need more print speed and ideally bigger build volume. Build volume is the only thing that still keeps me from buying A1 as I hope they will announce the XL printer any time soon, everyone knows it's coming so I don't want to pull the trigger too soon.

A1 Max To be honest enclosed printers are more for things like higher temp filaments like abs, I love the Core XY system, like my P1S and K1 Max but i also Have a Neptune 4 Plus but if i was honest Id rather have that size with the tech of Bambu Lab.

The trouble is once you start getting the basics under your belt you will want to experience with different filaments. So eventually you will need an enclosed system.
Don't believe me try printing abs or carbon fiber.

I got the mini, I wanted something small to put next to me on the desk. I was ... BLOWN AWAY. Truly plug and play, no muss no fuss, just press slice ... and press send. And I have had a couple 3d printers over the years. Ok experiences on most (i do check reviews first) but the A1 mini (and I am sure this one too) are just insane. Haven't used the AMS lite yet mind (like I said I want a small one for on the desk so for now the AMS is just in case I want it later).
It’s great to see this level of integration and ease-of-use coming to the consumer market. Bambu is pushing all of us to innovate and to think more about the total user experience, and that’s a good thing! We’ll probably get one for the lab, not to reverse-engineer or to copy its features, but to appreciate and keep as a source of inspiration, especially in the realm of first-time setup - something we in the land of RepRaps could definitely improve upon.
Indeed. I literally commented that this printer will do a good job and someone said "real hobbiest would never buy an A1". Besides gatekeeping, I really think there is alack of attention paid to UX. I want to find a model and hit print. Give me the advanced setting so I can manually slice thing and configure them. But let things scale between the person who wants a Kuerig and the person who wants an artisanal blend via a pour over and $800 Burr grinder. A lot of it is software, so that kind of range is possible, if by different software packages.
they already reverse engineered printers and scooped every open source project in existence and made everything closed source so it's invisible. They climbed up on the shoulders of Prusa and Voron design to put as little as possible R&D into the final product. Nothing to merit inspiration from here. They will still win as it is impossible for any western company to keep up with this pricing.
Very glad that's how you feel about it, same here. Just ordered one, but I hope to make it obsolete quite quickly by converting most of my print farm to IDEX, and I want to benchmark printing with dissimilar supports on the Bambu vs. in-house machines.

I feel that Bambu should offer a large format CoreXY box. It's what the community needs right now.
The Bambu A1 looks like a nice beginner PLA printer. It's got the potential to be the Ender3 Killer, but only time will tell. Robust usage will determine the A1 legacy.
Good review and exactly what I have been thinking. I have a Bambu X1 Carbon with AMS, a P1P that I enclosed, two Rat Rigs and just got my 5 head Prusa XL running. I think Bambu needs to drop the P1P and the A1 Mini, the A1 is almost the same price and should be the entry level. The next printer needs to be the large flagship and a have at least a 400 mm cube core x-y and be enclosed. They have done many things right and have been able to deliver on their products. The Prusa was ordered two years ago and arrived last month, for now it has no completion in the way it can switch filaments, but I see that changing quickly. I am afraid that Bambu may go the way of Creality and have 92 versions of the same printer.
I was going to upgrade my mk3s to the mk4 version, but this is less expensive than the upgrade kit when you consider the time investment. Very tempting.

Same here, felt like "Presenting printer No. 2315". I am printing now since 5 years on a old marlin modell and dont feel the need to change. Maybe because I printed it all and now it is a functional tool next to screw drivers. Running maybe once a month. With that said, I think 3D printing for private purpose follows the same pattern and after some time - it's over for many owners.
At the same time, I dont expect for FDM printers any new stuff as speeds are getting limited by the nozzle nowadays. Propably the low budget versions will get upgrades to match the professional once and thats it. The only area I still see potential is to develope better filaments.
This A1 is a good example how things have changed. First printers are like steampunk machines and new ones are like laserprinters. This hobby is about tweaking and improving but the A1 is not supposed for that. So sooner the later this "hobby" will dry out.
Considering that people have been asking for a bigger printer and BambuLab showed up bed slingers, I wouldn't be surprised if their next model is a delta printer.

@@dtibor5903 I think it's more a case of people looking at the X1 and P1 and going "wow these are great value, if you can do one at this size for that price I'd pay a bit more for an even bigger one". With the whole AMS setup a larger printer becomes very valuable for people who mass produce prints (especially multi color) as it means more prints per plate, which translates into filament wasttage being halved for every extra model you can fit on the bed.
I for example sell a few bits and one of my models has a very simple color change half way through. I can fit 4 of these in an X1. If I could fit 8 on an X1XL that would cut my filament per item costs in half, not to mention would allow faster print and shipping times due to being able to do more at a time.

A large format P2S combo with a screen like A1 and new features from A1 such as automatic flow control and quick hotend swaps would be the perfect machine. I would be pretty upset to buy my P1S combo and not wait for the dream machine but the dream machine P2S combo would be the only machine every 3d enthusiast would die to have.

Hey! Bambu A1 user here. Despite what Nathan Builds Robots has said, this has basically been one of the best things since sliced bread. I was so done with other printers, being annoying and breaking all the time, the I got this. It’s like I’m back into day 1 with printing - so much printing! I’m running outta filament! Lol

My A1 is getting processed now. I am hoping to get it by Christmas, however I probably won't. I ordered blue gradient pla for it to run the benchy and things like that. This is a great opportunity for me and I hope it works out.
Joel, in his interview with Stefan from CNC Kitchen, Dr. Tao said they would be bringing out a larger version of the X1C in 2024. He mentioned it was under development.
He also said, that is hard to build big printer and next printer will be a resin printer.
Correct; however they are working on the large-format machine for sometime in 2024.
The top end resin printer market is already near impossible to beat. I hope they focus on FDM. @@MartinWolker
Agree Bambu gives you a high speed capable bed slinger out of the box. No tinkering required. Creality may be cheaper but it’s not high speed out the box and once you factor in the upgrades the Bambu already has it’s a no brainer. The Bambu is the first viable everyday household 3D printer.
Bought an A1 Mini with the AMS & compaerd to my Ender 5 it's mind blowing the options I now have. When I saw that the A1 mini had 2 power ports it looks easy enough to make a lager block for the head & it wouldn't take Bambu much work to modify the software. For the next version Maybe a A1 Max with 2 heads & 2 AMS systems. It would allow for tandem prints or 8 colour single models. Having two heads would also cut down on the poop as it wouldn't need to purge as much.
It's good that I can use the Bambu Studio to slice for my Ender so I don't need to keep swapping between softwares & the quality is better on the Ender compared with Simplyfy I was using before.
Can't wait to see what they do next.
Hey Joel, Im a little late to the party - Just not getting around to watching this. I wanted to mention that I honestly think this is the best video on the A1 I have seen. It is VERY easy to digest because there are not really any tech heavy discussions here. It is merely, here's the printer, what I have printed, and this is what I think the future looks like. I actually think this is a really good format for a product everyone already knows is top tier. Specs are largely irrelevant when there isn't really a competitor.

Im in love with the p1s and the ams
When the A1-Mini came out I was hesitant because i wanted something bigger and bam here we are. As a new hobbyist with less than 5 months printing and 3 printers I am very much on the verge of selling one to get this bad boy.
I've been holding out on Bambu, but ordered an A1 Combo. It's going to be interesting to benchmark it against in-house built machines.
I still think it will be hilarious if they come out with an A1 Max before a large P1 printer.

My P1S is just so reliable I never even watch the first layer.. which is scary to think of.

I would love a fully enclosed CoreXY beast but if they end up making a huge bed slinger that's reliable, I will be very impressed.
I don't know which way they should go with a larger format machine but I HOPE they go corexy. I have a CR10S4 and the bed slingers of this size just take up so much space front to back.
Wow! If I had a 3D printer company just putting out the latest "ender clone", I'd be packing things in pretty soon, or start innovating because your days are numbered. I"ve only had my X1 for a few weeks, and I never want to touch any of my old printers. The X1C, while not perfect, is so far ahead in user experience and quality of prints than every printer I've used over the last 18 years.
I am really hoping for an X1C style Bambu just at 400x400x400 mm minimum. Definitely not less than 350mm in each dimension. I'd love a much better camera (though the one in the X1C is OK, it can't focus on all parts of the bed and could use some other improvements), and really importantly, I'd love for them to use tool changing instead of a 1 nozzle solution, or at least get the color change time down to 30 seconds or less. I'm not doing nearly as much color printing as I expected because of how time consuming it is. Obviously the separate tools would lead to less plastic waste as well.
I'd love for Bambu to come up with a replacement hot end that has much easier to change the size of the nozzles on the X1X. While I'm up for buying a new printer if it's bigger, I'm not buying one just so I can swatch nozzles easier. And improving the flow would be great as well.

HI I wanted to make an enclosure for the A1 bamboo because I have a room at 16°C and I had thought of making the walls with "non-woven fabric" (that is, the fabric that is put on plants in winter) so that the machine can breathe but at the same time have a temperature that is more or less acceptable for printing. I think that electronics don't have any problems ps. I will only use pla and petg what do you think?
I really hope they go with core xy. An A1Max worries me, going that fast on a bed slinger with a build plate that large (assuming 300+, but would want 400mm from bambu). Would be nuts. I’m sure it’s doable, but I just trust core xy more at speed.
Hopefully a larger machine (310mm+) will be CoreXY and utilize the existing hardware components (so I don't need to stock a new line of replacement parts for every iteration) along with the current expandable full AMS system. Not wanting to get "Bambuzeled", or one to follow the hype, I hesitated until recently to purchase the P1S while waiting for a larger format machine, but in hindsight think it is the best machine and value I have purchased to date!

Can the finishing layer(s) be slowed down to get fully glossy eyes? Also, can it be slowed down to give the rest of the models a different sheen? Really appreciated this video, but that part I didn’t really grasp (I’m dipping my feet into the world of 3D printing and don’t know if this is possible).

Question: In terms of capabilities, can the multiple feeders be used to automatically switch filament when one feed's run stops? I would think this would be a great way to handle larger print jobs when you have limited filament left on a roll... just let it run out and the printer could switch to a secondary roll (potentially of the same kind of filament). Curious if this can be done automatically with the A1.

@Joel, would you be able to set up a custom material profile? I have been printing with SBS and absolutely love it, not hydroscopic, which transforms my casual printing experience as I now have a rainbow of colours without faffing about drying filament. It is somewhat soft and had to tune my cura profile over time to the point where it is wonderful and a great replacement for pla. Considering that my UMO+ (albeit upgraded) and Ender 3Spro’s are such wonderful workhorses, I am aware that they are aging and faster tech and features are amazing, hemce my filament question. Regarding the question of the large format printer, whether bad slinger or coreXY, in my opinion they will do both if they want to defeat the competition.
If we look at the timing aspect, making a bed slinger is much easier to make than the other option.
Regarding the coreXY, seeing the interview on the cnc kitchen channel with the CEO of Bambu Lab, I understood that they don't want to create an X1XL, but they want to create an XL with new technology and improvements compared to the X1. This means that it will take some time before it can be released on the market
So, reluctantly, I think the bad slinger comes out first.

Don't hate, I aways feel you speak on script on a few reviews I've watched but you sound like you didn't read a script on this and spoke freely and honestly on this one. Thank you for this video Joel which is very informative, it is not easy for you to position yourself in relation to your knowledge, I have just ordered this A1 for several reasons, the price, the silence and I hope as you say that it makes quality prints worthy of a P1s core XY or at least like a prusa mk3 that I already own, I hope not to be disappointed with this first purchase from bambu lab, thank you......
I have used an A1 along side my old mk3 and mk4. I really feel like this is taking aim at the Prusa market. If you are looking at the mk4 or 2-3 a1 machines, go for the a1 machines. They scale really well. I have purchased like 5 of these for my print farm. They never clog or fail. They sent me an email for a recall on my first a1 and they sent me a total refund, and I bought the upgraded model shortly after. Everything I order from Bambu shows up in 2-3 days whereas the Prusa kits show up in MONTHS of lead time. I find the print quality to not only rival that of the mk4, but totally surpasses it. It is a LOT faster as well with all the sensors inside of it. The mk4, lacks those sensors. So if you are on the fence, and have about $1k to spend get the a1, get a ton of filament, or get 2-3 a1 machines and run a farm. I never used the AMS as I never bought one, though I might invest in an AMS at some point, it is just not something I am sold on, as every multi-color print tends to look strange. I have been 3d printing for YEARS, going through several creality machines, and other chinesium brand machines, the mk2, mk3, mk4. The a1 really brings 3d printing to everyone with linear rails and nothing is cheap on this printer aside from the price. Is it the best 3d printer money can buy? No. But pit it against a $2000 printer and you would be hard pressed to want more. Enter the $5000 market and thats where the a1 starts to show it's cracks, but the fact that it can even hold a candle to a $5000 printer at $400 is just insane to me.

I have been building 3D Printers since 2015. I own now a X1C. A cheaper 10 inch³ Printer is the Answer to the Question what to buy for a Beginner. Yes it cost twice the price of a Cheap Bedslinger but as someone who owns 1 1/2 broken Ender 3, and several Linear Bearing Printers which didn't broke, if the A1 has the endurance of a X1C then it is for times the printer. Most Cheap Printers print the first 100 hours good, then they need maintenance, after 200 hours heavy Maintenance, after 500 hours replacement parts. My X1C worked in the X-Mas season for 6 weeks 500 hours and get it's first Maintenance. My last Ender 3 pro had in his X-Mas season, got for just printing, about 300 hours and i had to replace the bed bearings. Software is good. I compare the Bambu Labs X1C to Voron 2.4 and this looks like a Switchwire. The competition is on. I hope for a 16 inch Printer from Bambu Labs or a 14 inch, instrestingly the Bambu Slicer supports my Tronxy X5SA 400 16 inch, so i only have to export to Octoprint and can use the same Software. So maybe 16 inch Bambu XL is comming.

Nope. By itself it's $399 USD and that's a great deal for a machine that performs incredibly well.

So I'm still fairly new to 3D printing. I can make my own models in blender and I have an Elegoo Mars 3 pro that Ive had good results with. But is this a good entry point for filament printers? I've looked at so many and a lot of them seem like old cars that I have to upgrade and swap parts and invest so much extra cash just to get them running. Is there an out of the box filament printer? Sorry if thats a dumb question.
I got my A1 mini two days after the release of the A1, form what I hear these two printers are pretty much the same except for size. Would printing with complicated filaments such as PETG or ASA have the same success as it did with the A1 as seen in this video????

I think that bambu labs will drop their first large format printer as a corexy but I think they will drop it with the best qualities of both the A1 and the carbon because adding the certain upgrades on the A1 such as the quick change nozzle I think will be a standard from here on out and then later on we will get a large format bed slinger
Both my X1C’s have over 3000hrs on them, I love them. I’d like a slightly larger machine so I could do bigger wall art, helmets, and or car parts or larger models.
Do you think Prusa will offer an MMU and/or AMS for the Prusa Mini?

Bambu first changed the game with the X1C and the AMS system. Now they are here to completely take over EVERY Market Segment. You want a commercial grade printer X1E. You need a speedy Core XY that can print advanced filaments P1S. You want Multicolor, AMS and AMS Lite add on. You want lower price but same quality A1 series.
I am just a hobbyist, so I doubt I will buy another printer (I have a P1P) but I think the 3d printing industry was in stagnation until Bambu Lab came along, and now everyone is scrambling to catch up. Hopefully, Bambu Lab will continue to support the P1Ps that are currently in the ecosystem, which shouldn't be too hard since they have the P1S. Now, maybe they will work on customer service, although the majority my printing issues have been self-inflicted.
Bambu should create a k1 max competitor. The k1 max would be a go to but the ability of the bambu printer to do multi color I feel is better then the size difference
My vote: Larger X1C with at least two nozzles to allow multi material without cross contamination.
I suspect that they’ll turn out an A1-max (or A2, A+, ?) next, and wait to make a larger enclosed corexy until they know how the X1-E sells. I think a larger enclosed machine (aka preassembled large cube) would be prohibitive because of shipping and other logistics unless they were for a commercial/industrial customer that wouldn’t scoff at the additional expense.
Given Bambu's ability to listen its users and what they want I'm guessing that the next release will be the Bambu Lab D1 Maxi: a linear rail-powered delta printer with a 250mm diameter 120C bed, 400mm build height, and a print head made from ecofriendly renewable rice.
I guess I would love to see a 300x300 P1S. Going larger already increases footprint and a core xy is just more space efficient. The P1S is already both a larger build plate and smaller overall size, especially in depth, than my current 235x235 bedslinger. All things staying much the same I'm looking to get a P1s at some point in the new year.
What I really think would be great would be to see the technical advances of the A1 hotend and filament monitoring being ported over to an updated X1 and P1 line.

I has discounted the printer when other reviewers stated that the maximum bed temperature was 80C. Your coverage indicates the maximum temperature to be 100C and checking the specs on the Bambu Lab's www site the temperature is listed as 100C. Back into consideration.
did the ASA pop off the textured plate or was it difficult to remove?

I just ordered mine yesterday the A1. I`m new to 3d printing. I have an ender 3s1 and 5s1 both with Sonic pads. Having a lot of issues with the 5s1. I'm so excited to be able to run multi color prints. Thats why I ordered this one. I hope it's going to be a good experience and I hope to be able to do multi color prints pretty easily. We will see...lol

@KingziKingz I love my A1. It's so fast and no complaints so far. The only thing is it moves sooooooo fast unless you have a very sturdy table you may need to slow it down a bit. Prints are great at high speed but I have another printer on same table and it has made the print on the other machine fail because of the table shaking...lol
I would to see how Bambu would built an IDEX printer. I print a lot with soluble suppport and that setup would better than the current offering. Plus in you get better output when using duplicating mode.
I have 2 x ender 3 s1 pros running klipper, K1 Max (microswiss hotend upgraded), 2x ender 3 v1 - modded to buggery, cr10s pro - modded to buggery. Popped my Bambu cherry and Ordered my A1 with AMS today.... i'm excited! :D
I'd love for them to make a large format core XY machine but given cost and whatnot I'd expect their first large format printer to be a large scale bed slinger that is just a scaled up version of the A1. They should totally call it the B1 for obvious reasons.

Yes it can but materials must all be similar in melt temperatures

I think the A1 looks pretty great. I decided to get it for my dad for Christmas. He's been interested in getting into it, and this is the cheapest way to get multicolor printing at a standard size.

On Easter they will lunch A1 XL and Christmas's it will be X1 XL
Is it just as user friendly when it comes to printing Silk PLAs?
Besides the printer, how much should i expect to spend on top in stuff like filament as a new user, first time buyer? I know that's based on what i print, etc, but what's a good estimate on what i'd need for my first month or 3 months?
So this thing is a Prusa Mk4 fighter at around half the price... As someone who was about to order a Prusa Mk 4 with its MMU, is there any reason NOT to buy this instead?
