  • We see it in the media, movies, television shows, and magazines - for men and boys, strength is measured by physical size. But when you’re a tiny kid from the tiny island of Guam, how do you find your place in the world? In this inspiring talk and poem, Meta Sarmiento shares about his personal journey and what it really means to be strong.
A writer of Asian-American, Pacific-Islander descent, Meta Sarmiento won the Spoken Word for the World competition in 2015 and is a three-time TeamBackPack cypher audition semi-finalist. He recently earned a spot on SlamNUBA's National Poetry Team. A graduate of the University of Guam (a U.S. accredited university serving Guam and Micronesia), Meta often writes about cultural identity, love, loss, and healing.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

When i caught wind that OUR META went and did a piece on Ted, a certain sense of pride came over me. This man not only took strides to push the poetry movement on Guam forward, but personally helped me with a couple pieces of my own. Its wonderful to see him performing on stage. If not for John, and the amazing culture that The Sinanganta movement provided for our island, there would have been so many stories left untold. Thanks for being you Meta. Youre an inspiration.

Appearance size and the patch of land one was born on shouldn't matter to the degree it does globally in defining who we are. Everyone seems to agree when you say that. And yet no one actually views anyone but through those meaningless lenses

If we can teach young feminists at an early age to look beyond their victim complex and misandry to reflect on positive men, their values, passions and knowledge, we might have a world full of feminists SJWs who are less obsessed with trying to demonise men.

You’re not wrong but I wouldn’t blame the “bigger is better” idea on tumbrina misandrists. They’re lil shits but they didn’t do this.
