    We are finishing our journey on how we fixed our Harvest Right Freeze dryer. I'm not sure how common my problem is so I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comment section but Harvest Right has been made aware of this issue (in case it's an isolated situation) and they have told me that they are actively working on making sure it gets taken care of. Today we are getting into the technical aspect of what I had to do to get my freeze dryer up and running.

    Awesome content. I love the technical information. I’m excited to see the equipment comparison.

    There is one more thing you can do to increase your capacity, you can wrap your liquid line around your suction accumulator before sending it to your TXV. That will subcool the liquid and increase your efficiency! Increasing you txv size I don't believe will help you achieve your goal it's just going to overfeed your evaporator. But like I mentioned above if you subcool your liquid line you will most definitely see an increase in capacity. It's the equivalent of installing a bigger txv but without sending more volume of gas to your compressor. More liquid you feed in the evaporator more it evaporates and more volume your compressor needs to pump and the higher your suction pressure will go you'll create the contrary of what it is you are trying to achieve. If you just send cooler liquid to the TXV you'll increase your compressors capacity because you aren't overloading it but you're decreasing what we call flash gas making a way more efficient system. I'm an industrial refrigeration mechanic and we use that type of subcooling all the time with ammonia based refrigerants.

    In Part 2 you mentioned you would be showing in this episode what you did to address the vacuum issue after your modifications. Did I miss that? Either way love the video!

      What I meant to say was that after this series is finished, the next "How I Fixed My Freeze Dryer" video will be about the vacuum leaks. Matter of fact, i should have it live next week.

    You may not get the temp you want with a single stage compressor, When you get into those low negative numbers sometimes you need two stage system. That little compressor is doing pretty good where you left it. You don't want to flood the refrigerant back to the compressor and destroy the valves. Thanks for the video.

      Yeah I don't think increase the amount of liquid in to the evap is gonna help. But if he subcools the liquid by wrapping the liquid line around the suction accumulator he just might get colder evaporation Temps.

    Hey, I have some salami (your saussison sec) in my wine fridge ready to eat. I live in Houston and the power has been out for 48 hours. Are these cured salamis safe to eat if they’ve been at room temperature (well likely higher as the AC isn’t working) for days??

      Tough to say, they should be ok depending on how far along in the drying process they were.

    Not sure I'd want to go through all of that to fix this unit. Now that this one is up and running are you going to do a side by side comparison between the Harvest Right and the Stay Fresh unit?

    • @2guysandacooler
      @2guysandacooler  24 дні тому +2

      Yep. I've had several people ask for that specific video. I'll compare the Stay Fresh to the new Pro Model to make it more fair.

    So, the question remains!
    What is the Most RELIABLE, WITHOUT MODIFICATIONS?
    Especially since nowadays the Majority are "MADE IN CHINA" CRAP!
    Because of the amount of $$$$$ that these costs, i EXCEPT TROUBLE FREE OPERATION FOR DECADES!
    If im going to Spend my $$$$, i expect it to work, without issues or problems, and NOT HAVE TO FIX IT!

    • @2guysandacooler
      @2guysandacooler  24 дні тому +2

      The answer to that question is fairly complicated. It all comes down to how you use the machine and how you take care of it. If you take care of your vacuum pump, change the oil regularly, don't overload the freeze dryer the rest comes down to quality parts. The new Pro Models that Harvest Right sell ( tinyurl.com/59ujbnp6 ) have better components than the previous versions. Even then, I don't think trouble free operation for decades is
      Another brand to consider is the Stay Fresh Freeze Dryer ( tinyurl.com/2fhfb3uz ). They've been on the market for about 4 years now and although they don't have the selection of sizes that Harvest Right has, their machine is built really well. It has a commercial feel to it and their customer support is miles ahead of the competition. I bought a Stay Fresh unit after this unit broke and I love the way it works. Matter of fact I'm considering buying their larger unit (The Mega) as well for our Freeze-Drying business.
      There are also other brands that are fairly new to the market, Blue Alpine (which I've heard good things about), The Cube is another brand as well. I haven't used either one so I can't speak to their quality.

      Thanks for the info!
      I don't have a freeze dry business, really don't plan going there. At least for now.
      Sounds like, you just came up with several more videos!
      Have a great day!
