Great review. A couple of things: 1. The king of backpack-substitute hiking fanny packs is Mountainsmith. *Great* suspension system, for a start. 2. You didn't talk about my absolute deal breaker. If you're someplace with pickpockets, the buckle placement is crucial. If it's centered (i.e. equal length straps), with the bag in front of you the buckle is out of your control; with the buckles in front, the bag itself is out of your control. That's why I'll only use bags with the buckle at the side (like the Vanquest) so I can have the bag and buckle both in front. That configuration also makes it easier to use as a sling.
Agreed, how could you ignore Mountainsmith, who has been pushing these types of bags since the 70's. . . Also, Osprey makes nice packs of this type, including hydration packs. Chase is entertaining, but I don't find he is comprehensive. . . or fully informed. Makes me wonder how he selects items to review. . .
@@BobTerek I wrote that post because I thought viewers should know about Mountainsmith, but I get why Chase skipped over them. I think he wants to concentrate on products from smaller, or less-known, or more boutique, or more "artisanal" makers. Chase is knowledgeable, but there's a certain hipster ethos at work here.
I don't see it reviewed often but the Janji Multipass Sling has been my favorite fanny pack/sling bag. It has a stabilizer strap if you are running/biking/playing soccer, and a unique system for larger items.
I just played this whole video but didn't see any of it. Putting a screen protector glass on my new phone...Your chill voice was very helpful in the background in keeping me from throwing my phone as those air bubbles are HELL!! Thanks- Love your videos - my go to when I need ANOTHER new bag. Peace.
Awwwwww mate, so glad you covered fanny packs. I'm convinced, this is, in my opinion, one of the best " you get to your travel destination, and use this as your day bag/daily carry". So many options! and if you need something larger, 10L sling. Brilliant!
So happy to see you! Which would you recommend as sling (not obnoxiously large)....interesting, no Bellroy? Nothing funky. Only wear black, minimal aesthetic, no dangling straps, no floppy, holds its shape. No big guys. Urban (older) gal. I own both Trakke bags. No more waxed bags. No loud. No bulky. What say you? Top 3 (even if not mentioned). Many thanks for your wisdom...
Purchased a vintage waist bag for floating or tubing. Found it really handy for hiking as well. Can carry my miniature tripod in there and a small snack. No need to to remove my backpack anymore.
Got the lululemon belt bag for my last trip. Like everybody else. It was awesome. I will never travel again without that or some iteration of a fanny pack 🙌🏻
For flights with weight limit - I wonder if like a *Bellroy aling lite 7L* would go under the radar as for personal items, 🤔 so you could store some lenses like the Canon 24-70 2.8 just for the check in phase... Maybe the 7L is too big? Maybe you can't wear it as a fanny, only as a sling?
Thank you for the review, lots of choices! This is post is about sharing information and might be out of the scope of your review. Putting into context I like Fanny packs, while large is good for hiking with a water bottle, smaller is better for day use. I purchase a water proof Fanny pack as I am around water allot, and wanted something small but able to keep keys and things safe just in case I feel in while water boarding.. I am using Aqua Quest dry bag Fanny pouch. Works great. Might be to small for many users but suits my purpose. Cheers from Vancouver Island Canada
I'd really like to find a slim "front pack" or chest pack some such that I could wear underneath clothing to throw tablet or macbook in and earpods some money, cards, etc. A hidden pack good for light day travel that's accessible from side or bottom that wouldn't stick out like a backpack or fanny pack and make me a potential target.
Which one (s) has the easiest pull to open? I want to easily open the pack with one hand, rather than needing the other to help. (I have found Evergoods backpacks good for this)
I got the code of bell one, you’re right, it’s a bit finicky to use. I ended up with a couple of Alpaka ones in different sizes, they’re a nice medium between normie and techie.
Love this video. I’m actually surprised that you didn’t review the bedouin foundry fanny packs. Waxed cotton, killer interior, and the first to use cobra buckles, which have been imitated by many of the brands on this video. Definitely worth a look.
A shame you didn't show of more features of the Wandrd. The fact you can carry a laptop in it , and it has the same waterbottle holder style as the other fold down one
Thanks for this Sir! I've been through most and use the Evergoods 2L on a daily basis. It's a solid partner to the Evergoods CLP 24L. Great gear and wonderful materials. Hope you're well Chase and thanks for continuing with this content.
I have the moment one and I like it a lot (especially for travel). The glasses shelf and built in lens cleaner are great. Removed the lens organizers and stow my keys in the front pocket
Dude that first roll top one would actually be so dope as an audio person to collect up a bunch of mics (reality tv). And then take out the mics and roll it back away. Hmm me likey
Great vid of the packs, thanks for uploading. And Pacsafe gear is fantastic, I've had a load of their gear for camping and travelling on my motorbike. Highly recommended.
Where'd you find that Trakke banana crossbody colorway? I LOVE their stuff and follow them pretty closely, but have never seen that color. Would buy immediately hahah
I can vouch for that Vanquest bag (Dendrite?), but these days I either rock a Peter McKinnon pouch for its space and classy looks, or just recently the Scorpion Pack from Kitanica. It has a awesome water bottle holder, and you you can wear it sling mode, unless you go hiking then it can transform into an awesome lumbar pack. It’s tactical without looking tactical!
The Hyperlite Mountain Gear Versa pack is the cheapest crap I've had in my hands for a very long time. It has the quality of a cheap giveaway. The belt is hilarious! :D
LOVE these but still didn’t find what I was looking for. I need something to just holds my two phones on the commute (+ bus pass) and that doesn’t flop around while I run for the bus. Something that does not sag (I guess two phones is pretty heavy too)… any suggestions?
This video is so fucking well done. Subscribed before I even made it out of the first section. I never knew I'd be such a fan of a video about fucking fanny packs.
@@chasereeves I thought that there would be a "bum bag" vs. "sling bag" differentiation but some of the ones you showed (like the Minaal for example) are cross body bags. But some good choices and some odd choices in there as always.
Yea, this is just the waistpack stuff... anything I have that COULD be used as waistpack (even if it's sold as a sling, like the Minaal) @@dave.in.oregon
Slings over waist packs. It is the thicker straps and wings that work when worn but get in the way when driving, being seated on public transport and carrying as a clutch.
Wow. That was a veritable menagerie of wiener covers. Pro level handling. Glad to see all of these, but I’m thinking some of the odd design choices probably have some specific use cases that we’re not thinking of? Maybe.
Now that fanny packs are socially acceptable again I might just bust out all the ones I stashed in 1991. 😂
No sport moto rider looks cool without one xD
@@AleksAndrosik You're telling me that now I have to buy a vespa?
@@helmanfrow id love for all Sport riders to have one.. but I, myself, would love to get a Vespa!
This is a very helpful! I’ve been travelling with a Jansport Fanny pack that I found at a thrift store over a decade ago. Time for an upgrade!

Nothing is better than a " Mountain Blaze " Fannypack! Rated number 1 form Appalachian trail thru hikers !!

Pacsafe is awesome and never wears out! i have used one for over 9 years and it looks amazing still.
Not a fan of the magnetic clasps. Would be my luck it unlatches when sitting down somewhere and i end up leaving it behind

I wish there were more options like 17:56 that stay locked in without looking so beefy, slings just move around too much

Its a shame Matador discontinued their On-grid hip pack. One of the best designed fanny packs ever in my opinion.
Jansport has one that looks and funtions the exact same.
Huge fan of the Evergoods MHP 3.5L. I can use it as a fanny pack or a crossbody sling and it carries A LOT. Another great video, sir!

I’m considering the CAS2 but man I wish it had a fidlock instead of that traditional buckle.
The Vanquest Dendrite Large is also my favorite fanny pack. Had mine for a year or so and it's been awesome.
i'm going to need that funky bag section in the notes because #1 looks preeetty funky

The Patagonia black hole small is the best bag money can buy (IMO)

Some of those would be good for art supplies for the Urban Sketcher.
Can we get the details on the bracelet?
