@rosephjosenbaum7130 I don't agree with the "we are screwing up the world" comment either as "global warming" is a trend that has happened before, is happening now, and will happen again. Mother nature releases more CO2 and other noxious gases with one volcanic eruption than most countries could in a year. Most liberals and people from "hollywood" do their song and dance about the other side but look at San Francisco now. Full of homeless, tent cities, empty store fronts, and steady and rising crime rates.
I left the littoral hell hole that is texas because it was too hot. I could hardly work in the heat and once my co-worker dies from heat stroke I booked it. You guys are all assholes enjoying and acting superior for that lie.

I've been wearing a hip pouch for years now and I totally agree with Adam about the "Everything is just there." aspect of them. I found one that I really liked when I started wearing them, but then it was discontinued. So I hired someone to make a pattern for me and train me how to sew my own with the pattern. My pattern uses a more vertical form-factor with two zippered compartments. Also, I would like to introduce the best kind of buckle for a hip pouch I have ever found: www.amazon.com/PARACORD-PLANET-Rotational-Paracord-Backpacks/dp/B07BHR9YYQ I have yet to have one break on me, less gets caught in them and I think the flex helps reduce wear. I'm still looking for a source of double zippers that open in the middle though.
As a Texan, I’m glad y’all are getting a taste of the weird weather. Our “winter” in most of the state just consists of all 4 seasons in one day, about half the week. So it’s cold in the morning, you’re in shorts and a short sleeve by lunch, then maybe it rains, then it’s back to cold around 7PM or so. Good times.

Adam, you can make any show & tell fun and I can always count on you to put a smile on my face on nearly any given day! Especially much needed during Covidageddon !
I’ve been carrying a brass pen for the last couple of years and lately it’s been a great “no touch” tool for elevators, door handles and chip and pin pads. It’s great!
Thanks for the video Adam. I totally get the hip pouch idea. In the summer Montana can be quite variable in temps. We generally wear a fleece for warmth and breathability and then put on a light windbreaker for wind and rain resistance. Also help later at night to lock in the heat retained by the fleece. Because of the fact that I may be wearing several jackets in a day I generally wear cargo pants. My wife has described me as a Santa looking version of Pockets from "Hatari!" when I pull random things out of my pockets but not too much because I am generally pulling them out for her to use. I agree with the noise abatement issue with the pull ring. I have a pair of cargos with metal zippers on the leg pockets and if I have the unzipped while walking around the pulls will chime with every step. One improvement to the bag that I noticed would be something to hold the excess belt ends so they aren't dangling around to catch in something. Otherwise that bag looks very functional.
Whoever told you that Lamy Safari was the 'best' pen either did you a grave disservice, or saved you from a world of obsession. It would be like someone telling Raiders is the 'best' movie, so you only need to see that one. I could see you with a solid brass pen built like a tank, or a beautiful lacquered piece of art, or a collection for every occasion. And that isn't even getting into inks...
It´s funny that Adam bought this Lamy fountain pen as an adult and is so stoked about it. For german kids in primary school, this pen is like the default pen which is gifted to you by your grandparents at the age of 6. Most of my classmates used it and i used mine for well over 10 years as well. And he is right, its a great pen :)
Adam, given the condition of your fingers at any particular moment, I'd recommend a small package of band aids and a couple of alcohol/betadyne wipes. It's not much bigger than a couple of packs of gum, but damn handy when you need it.
Your description of the weather sounds a lot like Ohio. when I was a kid we used to pack away our winter clothes and get the summer clothes out and vice versa. now you just have big closets and you keep everything out because you might need shorts in December and you might need a winter coat in May.
I went with an over the shoulder mens carry all/map case. Particularly helpful now that i only go out less than once a week. If you put your wallet down and don’t pick it up for ten days its really easy for it to move or you forget where you put it.
The Lamy Passport is the BEST ever. I’ve been carrying one for the last 2ish months now, and it’s totally removed the Pilot and Schaeffer that I used to carry from my life. It’s SO reliable, so easy to service, so pleasurable to write with, and I love it. Get you one, if you like fountain pens.

I’m glad you started looking into Fountain pens. That has been my COVID hobby. I started with a Lamy and have gifted one as well. It’s a great place to start. I don’t particularly like the grip section. I wonder how useful it will be in your making. Fountain pens tend to like ink resistant paper and don’t do great on other surfaces. I’m looking forward to see if you like it and expand to other pens, paper and ink.
I was born in Florida where I have lived most of my life. When I was a child in the 70s we would often have an overnight freeze in the winter so that when you awoke in the mornings for school the grass was covered in frost. We would also have daytime temperatures in the low 30s at least once or twice in the typical year. That stopped happening a long time ago. Now when the temperature gets close to freezing in my latitudes it's a rare event.
have only been to San Francisco once back in 2008. My company sent me down to man the boot at the RSA show. It was in april that year. Googled what the weather was like, and what to wear, and saw it was similar weather to what Toronto gets at the time, so I packed accordingly. No shorts, some T' shirts, and a few hoodies outside of the uniform I had to wear at the show, and an outfit for a night out with the company. We landed at 9 am on the sunday, expecting in the 60's. It was 98. It got up to 101 I think one of the days. I got lucky that one pair of pants were zip offs, and could take the legs off. Absolute beautiful city. Though unexpected, the hot weather was pretty rejuvenating, after a peticularly cold winter in Toronto. The cold weather rolled back in on Thursday, along with the fog.
as someone who has been riding bikes for 10 years, hip paks is where I place almost everything I need on my daily commutes. might make my own that can serve also as a frame bag.
Instead of a fanny pack, I achieve a similar result with cargo pants, but yeah, in the rare times I wear jeans or chinos, I always have to switch all of my stuff to a shoulder bag. Being a chubby fella (though it's changed a lot lately), it's a bit more difficult to wear a fanny pack - it digs in when you sit down, it makes you look even bigger etc. Perhaps it's because I never found a right one, and I have to say - I dig the bigger area, but flatter profile.
I'm a big fan of hip bags and fanny packs. I like that no matter what outfit I'm wearing all my EDC has a known place in the hip bag. I also love being able to just get home, remove the bag and have everything stay in its place for tomorrow.
That weather sounds like my personal hell. Why would you want the weather to be always the same? And why that miserable temperature range if it is always going to be the same?!
It depends what you are used to. If the place you love has cold misty autumn days, and you have to live somewhere like California, then you will miss the horrible misty weather. But if California is your favourite place in the world and you find yourself in Newfoundland, you will be miserable as hell.
This is why Adam is so savage he doesn’t care about what you think a “Fanny pack” looks like. He cares about the edc of everyday life. I love the Don Quixote style that Adam brings to us. No matter the problem he has a solution. When I watch the movie ( the Martian) I sometimes think man Adam would totally do awesome in any situation. He would do awesome if he was in the capsule of Apollo 13 or in the engineering room at Houston trying to figure out how to work the problem. Lots a love for the tested team and Adam of course. Had the pleasure of meeting him on the boardwalk at SDCC in 2018 . He was going onto the IMDB boat and he allowed my wife to take a picture of us . Plus he was riding a one wheel so I independently wanted one!
Aaaaaah, I love Lamy safaris and al-stars! Excellent fountain pens, VERY easy to clean and maintain, and great for carrying around ANYWHERE, even when it might be rough on them, bc if it breaks or falls off a cliff while hiking, a replacement isn't excessively expensive. As long as I don't carry my limited edition variants. So few REALLY GOOD pens are that cheap. I still do use my Pilot Vanishing Points more often, bc that's my favorite pen, but they're my lab notebook and crafting notebook pens, and only travel to and from school, the lab, or somewhere safe I might actually use my craft notes. But there's a LOT of times and places I don't want to bring pens that cost $150 to replace.
Hey Adam! Please try a Pelikan fountain pen and tell us how you feel between it and the Lamy! In my school days for example I found out that Lamys break easier at the trhead. In fact only my Lamys snapped right in half and the thread stayed in the back part every time. Pelikans never broke on me. Please try! I will get a new one too or I might use the last one I had but then stopped using. Ima put that thing back into my edc! Just wondering which one hmmm.
I feel the same way! I never carried a bag besides work bags. I carry one to the store and anywhere I need to go now. I’m going with one of two Maxpedition bags for different purposes. Smaller pouches with PALS webbing on the back, but I slide an OFF-WHITE belt through and it’s a great, comfortable shoulder sling. Holds the gubbins and I can sanitize where I touch the bag while I don’t want to wipe sanitizer on a jacket. Jacket weather for me is 40 or less. Light chore coat, denim, sheepskin or horse hide... I run very hot
Lol, I was using Lamys in school. I'm German by the way. I found that Lamys have quite a thick line and it can smear easily. But the feather tip doesn't have that scratching feeling that you can get with an good ole Pelikan. The Pelicans line is finer and does not smear like the Lamy, since it doesn't put out that much inc. I found that those Lamys break easily though. I still have 2 broken ones in an old drawer, the part where you screw it in can break off more easily it seems. Other fountain pens didn't break on me, but that was in my school days. Now that I am someone with several edc pouches in my bagpack, I think I will get a new fountain pen again, or take out an old one, and get some permanent inc for it and put it in my edc pouch with the regular pen, the pencil and the fine red permanent marker. Permanent inc now because I don't want a drop of water to smear away the non-permanent inc. Fountain pens are also really fun and weirdly enjoyable to write and scetch with!
I have a day-pack, worn over the shoulder. Actually, I have two, one is an empty back-up. Very easy to control and access. Standard contents: pair of back-up eyeglasses, a single 4-color pen, a pair of earphones for my smartphone, a plastic spoon, a tiny widget with a very short blade (Japan has strict knife laws), a small Vixen 4-power monocular, a fold-away magnifying lens, a pair of ear-plugs, a one-cell (AAA) flashlight, a plastic shopping bag, a small pack of tissues, a small plastic case with exactly one Excedrin and one Kirkland Ibuprofen in it...and a partridge in a pear tree. When I go out with ONLY the day-pack, I stuff a small water bottle, a toothbrush with about a half meter of floss wrapped around the handle, and a tiny tube of tooth-paste in there. It's pretty stuffed at that point but I still have my shopping bag if I buy stuff. Since Covid-19, I have added a tiny spray bottle of alcohol-water mixture. Hand wipes go in my back pocket. Smartphone in my shirt pocket. It is the same size as Adam's fanny-pack. 10 bucks at Uniqlo. Three pockets. The hard plastic buckle is in a good location for both access and no pain. In the hand, it feels just a bit heavy. Over my shoulder, resting above the small of my back, it is weightless.
@@adamsteineke4661 it was just an example to convey my concern. It doesn’t matter what medical device I used. That’s not what I was talking about. I was highlighting my concern for Adam. But thanks for schooling this old diabetic about diabetic gear. Appreciate that.
I loved your finial comment. You don’t care what others say about it. I took this attitude several years ago ; even more purse like, a small military style Messager’s pouch with a shoulder strap when traveling. Simply saying. It Works,
I love fountain pens. I have quite a few. I have that Lamy. It is very good, but I would not call it the best. It will evaporate ink over time, so if you aren't using it daily, it will go dry and need a really good cleaning to work properly again. Otherwise a super great choice, especially if you want the clip. If the clip doesn't matter, I'd recommend the Kaweco Classic Sport. It's smaller when closed, making it super portable, and it seals REALLY well, so even after months of non-use, the ink will be wet and ready to go. It comes in a lot of colors and materials. My favorite is the basic aluminum because it's very light.
I always appreciated how Indiana Jones basically wears a purse but nobody really sees it lol. I guess so long as something is colored drab it never really goes out of style.
I have long dreamed of starting my own maker-space and providing jackets for all members who would then wear patches (provided by the maker-space) indicating the machines / areas they have been approved to use. It’s very exciting to see a maker I admire having similar thoughts (though admittedly funnier). I hope other makers / maker-spaces will do the same.
I figured hand sanitizer and spare mask when all the talk of covid, I never stopped working and still go everywhere but Disney so not a huge change for me.
That fountain pen takes me back about 25 years. This was the fountain pen we had to buy for primary school to learn cursive writing with. Young me chewed on the end and it looks gruesome but I still have it ^_^ I got myself a new one about 5 years ago made of aluminium. Still use it to this day.

Having been a bag guy for a long time, from shoulder bags, to backpacks. It's my organizational method. Other people do find it odd, but its the only way I'm ever organized. On the note of hotel cards, I worked with a guy who kept his on a lanyard along with his "show tools" sharpie and maglight. The hotel staff would find it odd sometimes when he'd ask for it to be set for his room, but most often times they would do as he asked. Saved him a lot of lost keycard fees.
As a gamer who carries a Switch Lite, an Amazon Kindle, and usually pair of Bluetooth headphones, along with other with other stuff like a super mini umbrella depending on the weather, I just carry a small sling bag from Target with a can of mace in a leather pouch clipped to the outside in case anyone tries to mess with me. I've gotten some looks from people, but man has it come in handy as an EDC this year.
For the holding loops, may I suggest using paracord with a wire threaded down the inside then just melt the 2 ends together. The wire would keep it open if that is what you wanted with the keyrings.
Thanks. My personal hell in a short recap. I needed more. Been carrying a jansport big student for YEARS. Downsized to a fanny. Its tough but keeps it minimal.

I don’t particularly like the grip section. I wonder how useful it will be in your making. Fountain pens tend to like ink resistant paper and don’t do great on other surfaces. I’m looking forward to see if you like it and expand to other pens, paper and ink.
Kind of surprised he didn’t have a multi tool in his everyday bag lol

He actually have a multitool in a home made holster in his belt. If i remember right it is a leatherman wave

Big fan of the fanny packs. I've been EDCing one for a couple years now. Definitely got some ideas to add to my kit!
have only been to San Francisco once back in 2008.
Can you do a video on all of your favorite jackets?!? Thank you!!
UK viewer here.
We call them purses.
Adam I support your identity, regardless.
You be you.
Adam, you are hands down my favorite friend that I have never met! You rock your fanny pack proudly, and Merry Christmas!
as someone who has been riding bikes for 10 years, hip paks is where I place almost everything I need on my daily commutes. might make my own that can serve also as a frame bag.
Calling it now: sooner or later, Adam is going to turn his own fountain pen on a lathe.
Thats probably the best looking Fanny pack I've ever seen.
I too am a cargo pants person. I will admit, the idea of not having to transfer as much stuff between pants does have it's appeal :P
Cargo pants wearers of the world, unite! 😁
As a lurker on Candle Power Forum, you need to do a video on that lunar/ apollo light. Doesn't need to be long, but it'd be cool.
You've got a man purse and I'm proud of you.
I'm a big fan of hip bags and fanny packs. I like that no matter what outfit I'm wearing all my EDC has a known place in the hip bag. I also love being able to just get home, remove the bag and have everything stay in its place for tomorrow.

Oh man, I wore out so many of those Lamy fountain pens as a teenager at school here in the UK. That set off some serious unexpected nostalgia!

I used that Lamy fountain pen in school ... about 35 years ago. They have been around for a long, long time!

Did that last night, like an idiot... fortunately it wasn't cranked up too high and I escaped with a minor 1st degree.
Twice in one week. Full on. Smells gross.
Hoping I've learnt my lesson. Time will tell.
Haha, chuckling from the UK as soon as Adam said not to laugh at fanny pack 🤣🤣🤣

So where and when are we picking up the "package" and what kind of baklava (balaclavas) are we bringing?
🎶"Its the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine!"🎶
Trying to be funny. Only my hosta get to sing that when I cut them back every fall ... And they'll be fine ....
I LOVE my Lamy fountain pen, they make a clear one which is super fun because you can see the innards while you’re using it!
My girlfriend (originally from the UK) drops in the room mid review. Smirks, churchgiggles *fannypack* lol (-::
Yeah.. the Lamy used to be the 'rich kid' option back in the day (when we had to write everything in fountain pen in school)
In Germany ist the alternative for children who don't want to write with their Pelikan any more.
Oh yes, Lamy makes the best fountain pen´s. I own the same... :-)
But the other pens from Lamy are also great.
I love my 2k, but I don't think it's the best pen for a place like Adam's shop. ;)
Holy, that bag is expensive I would cry if I got it a quarter of how dirty Adam's is.
Zpaks sells virtually the same pouch on their website for $65. A mere $315 less than Tom charges for his version..
I knew Adam was the kind of person to appreciate a fountain pen
I am honestly surprised there wasn't a pocket knife or "Leatherman" in there.
I think he mentioned that the knife got a pocket.
Probably a swiss army (he likes Victorinox) in his pocket.
I have a day-pack, worn over the shoulder. Actually, I have two, one is an empty back-up. Very easy to control and access.
Standard contents:
pair of back-up eyeglasses,
a single 4-color pen,
a pair of earphones for my smartphone,
a plastic spoon,
a tiny widget with a very short blade (Japan has strict knife laws),
a small Vixen 4-power monocular,
a fold-away magnifying lens,
a pair of ear-plugs,
a one-cell (AAA) flashlight,
a plastic shopping bag,
a small pack of tissues,
a small plastic case with exactly one Excedrin and one Kirkland Ibuprofen in it...and a partridge in a pear tree.
