I’ve been working with the white clouds for about a year now. I’m attempting to keep the bright blue line that the young have into the adults. I’ve gotten it to the point where it stay longer and I feel with a few more years I’ll be able to have the adults with the blue line still intact.
Nuts For guppies Let me know how it works out. I tried doing that and ended up giving up. I think that as long as they have the bright blue, they can’t breed. I’m not 100% sure, though, and I hope I’m wrong. They would be absolutely beautiful if they kept that blue band.
Really informative video, thanks. I love white clouds, they're so pretty and interesting to watch and I don't know why they're not more popular (I have a theory it might be because they're so cheap to buy and elitists turn their noses up, lol). I'd love to keep some of my own but I'm stuck on what tankmates would be best/how to incorporate them in my main tank with all my favourites (corydoras and other bottom dwellers). I don't want to do a species only tank as I'm so short on space (tiny British house problems!).
They should do fine with your cories. Both like it cool and both like soft, acidic water. And they don’t need much space. A ten gallon tank will accommodate a small group of them.
I used to have two tanks, one with WCM minnows, and one with guppies. Both had 10 fish. Based on the water tests, the WCM minnows only produced about 1/4 as much waste as the guppies. For whatever reason, they are very clean and don't have a large bio-load.
I'm new to keeping wcm, just subscribed, impressive video, what really made me stop to subscribe though was when you suggested I check out WC Dynasty, I thought that was really really cool of you and as I was about to look them up I thought, "oh, wait, I should subscribe, this guy's really in it for the community." Thank you!

Hi Sony, just stumbled into your video & really enjoyed your information. Had the wild type years ago. I've been researching small coldwater fish & decided I'm going to try Gold WC's. My goal is to start small & see if I can improve the gold coloration.
The best video of white cloud mountain minnows on the web so far. Thank you for that. I have a question. What should I expect from crossing male golden × female wild type ?
Odysseas Froilan Thanks very much. I’m glad you think so. From the cross you describe, you could expect all the fry to look like the wild type. Fry would carry one gold gene and one wild type gene. If you cross these fish together, you would expect 25% gold fry and 75% wild type, assuming eggs/fry don’t get eaten.

Very interesting and informative video. Thank you. I have two colonies of WCMM. One golden colony and one wild type. I am currently conditioning them and then I will likely use spawning mops
Yes will do. I plan to move the mops out into a fry tank and leave the parents in the tank and replace the mop with a fresh on in the hopes of them giving me a consistent supply. Obviously things never go to plan though! 😂
Mountain Goldfish well, that’s been my strategy for Fundulopanchax scheeli. Not as good as picking mops, but I keep the line going while I continue to tinker with the cyprinids. Good luck with it!

Thanks! Glad you had good luck with them. They should do well for you indoors, too. The rosy reds are cool, but they need a cave to breed-a flowerpot on its side will do.

Thanks for sharing your observations. I don’t doubt that they do well outdoors. I don’t keep mine outside though, as our hot summers might be too much for them, and then there are the neighborhood raccoons, which previously have eliminated all of my yard fish.

Hey,love your Channel.I’m starting a 40 Gal Stock Tub,want to use distilled water, and run it 2 weeks before adding White Clouds.I’m looking for them, most stores are out of stock.
Thank you. I’m glad to hear that. You might add a little tap water to your distilled water-five or ten gallons, maybe-to keep the water from getting too acidic and killing them. I don’t know what their minimum pH tolerance is, but it’s probably not good when it drops into the fives or fours.
1prairiedog I checked the test strip again. The color match was mid way between the first color on the container, 0 and the next one up, 30 and 40, for GH and KH, respectively. So I estimated to 20-30. I’ll look into other kinds of tests for GH and KH. I would expect my rainwater to have lots of particulates in it though, since I’m in a heavily populated area.
I bred a few golden white clouds outside in a small water garden but then a snake got some of them. Their color gets much brighter out in the sunlight. Have you tried breeding them outside yet?
I have one white cloud mountain, who ate too much tonight. She’s swimming tilting to one side. I’m very worried about her, is there anything I can do now😢
It’s very hard to say. I’m not a veterinarian, and fish disease and disorders are very hard to diagnose. Plus, I haven’t seen the fish. From your description, my hunch is it’s not related to overeating-maybe it’s a swim bladder issue. I hope it resolves favorably.
I have just bought 4 white clouds and one looks lumpy and fat so presumably pregnant. I am used to platy fish, do I need to put her in a birthing box, will she lay eggs or live fry? Thank you
Interesting. I have a group of fry that are now adults (50+) and I've noticed that the lateral line on some are a gold color and some are purple. Have you heard of this before? And would purple be a desired color? Thanks.
I haven’t noticed that. But If you like a purple lateral line, you should go for it. I’m sure some other people will like it too. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi I’ve looked at several videos of white cloud minnows and I still can’t figure out which ones are male and female I have a group of 8! Can you explain it?
Yes: females are a little rounder in the abdomen than the males. Their dorsal fins are a little smaller, too. Males display for each other, females don’t. If you’re on Facebook, check out the White Cloud Dynasty page. Someone will be able to post a photo for you.
have you tried levamisole for parasites? Most disease begin in fish becouse of parasites or bacteria. I had the same disease as you in one of my tanks and levamisole was the only thing that worked.
Yeah-it was in one of the commercial medicines I treated the rosy reds with. That was before the powerhead and prefilter, though, so they may have reinfected themselves. The other thing-it’s possible that whatever they had needed to be treated internally, and adding dewormer to the water column wasn’t enough.
I'm planning on keeping white clouds on a indoor 100L (25 gallon) pond filled with perennial and floating plants. I plan on just leaving them there for months and let them multiply, but I saw that they eat their young. Do you think lots of roots and floating plants will help them breeding and keeping the eggs/fry alive?
If you start with just one pair, they will probably multiply. I suspect-but can’t prove-that they won’t eat their own young, but will eat the young of other white clouds. They other thing that I think will improve fry survival is lots and lots of cover. Really dense plants, from top to bottom-including a thick carpet of floating plants. Watch my latest video on setting out summer tubs to see what I mean. Good luck.
@@sonnysfishroom3241 thanks for the answer! I've been using water hyacinth because of it's thick root system for my guppy pond, and they've been breeding readily. I've never bred non-livebearing fish before (besides the occasional ember tetra fry that show up in my aquarium), and was wondering if the same method would work. I'll watch your other videos once I get home.
@@arthurheine5631 water hyacinth is the right idea. It likes hard water, though, and it may have problems in the soft water that white clouds need to breed.
My guess is your population may be genetically adapted to the heat. My basement is a lot cooler. Years ago, when I kept them in a heated tank at 80F, they got fungal infections.
My white cloud mountain minnows wont eat anything i give them :( they just spit it out. And you can tell they are starving because they are constantly darting around when they see my hand. They wont eat flakes, pellets or fake blood worms (betta food).
It’s hard to know. They are a tough fish that usually don’t get sick. You might try a dewormer, like levamisole. Without a fish vet to examine them, it’s just guesswork at this point.
5 should be ok, but more would be better. If you get six, the odds favor you getting at least one male and one female, if they’re picked at random. Good luck.
@@rustydizon4596 cardinals like it warmer than white clouds. Around 80F. White clouds like it cooler, and may get a fungus infection at that temperature.
This is awesome! I will now try and make a kinda gold dust white cloud like the guppy. I notice on some of my white clouds there is gray scales on the bottom but not on the top. I will try and line breed them! Thanks!

So I estimated to 20-30. I’ll look into other kinds of tests for GH and KH. I would expect my rainwater to have lots of particulates in it though, since I’m in a heavily populated area.
Hi were can I buy some fish ?
Great video. We need more “in depth” informational videos like this
Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching.
I bred a few golden white clouds outside in a small water garden but then a snake got some of them. Their color gets much brighter out in the sunlight. Have you tried breeding them outside yet?
Yes. I put some out the year before last, when the fish room was renovated. They did very well.
Hi Sonny i have a question for you. Can you tell me what is a hifin White Cloud Minnow. Is it a cross between a longfin fish and a short fin fish?
Hi Andre. Sorry, but I am not familiar with high fin white clouds.
There display behavior is fantastic, especially when the males are competing. Best small, starter fish around.
Thanks again for watching.
I love the long finned wild type, so you sell your fish?
No, sorry, I don’t. But I think White Clod Dynasty sells his fish. Thank you for watching.
Very cool!!!
CharleysAquaticNook Thanks!
Just picked up a free 30 gallon tank how many white clouds do you recommend? Do you recommend any takemates or should I just do straight white clouds?
You could probably do ok with 15 or 20 white clouds. Small barbs or minnows would do OK with them, or a few cories.
Thank you
They are egg layers that like to spawn in plants.
Do they school directionally like black neons do for example, when there's bigger fish around?
I don’t know for sure. They might, if they’ve scared. Mine only form loose aggregations, as the biggest fish I keep them with are rosy and gold barbs.
Can i breed golden white clouds with normal white clouds?
Yes. It’s in the video.
Just getting into white clouds myself.
Welcome to the club.
have you tried levamisole for parasites?
I need help , ugh I have a platinum white cloud via breeding.
Really? That sounds like it could be very interesting. I’ve never seen that. Good luck with the fish.
I keep golden and white breeds in room temperature of 30 degree Celsius in malaysia, and they are doing fine
Without a fish vet to examine them, it’s just guesswork at this point.
hello, im about to purchase whitecloud online, will they be ok in a group of 5 or should I buy more? thanks!
5 should be ok, but more would be better. If you get six, the odds favor you getting at least one male and one female, if they’re picked at random. Good luck.
@@sonnysfishroom3241 ok thanks! I'll buy 6 whiteclouds together with Cardinal Tetras 😁☺️🥰
@@rustydizon4596 cardinals like it warmer than white clouds. Around 80F. White clouds like it cooler, and may get a fungus infection at that temperature.
i need to know more about albino i have 2
Do you mean the gold morph? I talk about them in the video. I am not familiar with albino white clouds.
This is awesome! I will now try and make a kinda gold dust white cloud like the guppy. I notice on some of my white clouds there is gray scales on the bottom but not on the top. I will try and line breed them! Thanks!
That`s the funniest thing I heard lately - new guppy LOL
Minute 2:00
That is a endlers fish , is not a guppy
shows ender's, not guppies
These fish are endangered in the wild. Mmmm.
There are LOTS of them in retail stores. They are extremely well represented in the hobby.
Is not new guppies is fake neon chines
