Great stuff Mark. I think I've been bitten by the Danio bug lately, I use to fish for these little guys to use as bait, but just lately I've discovered how neat they are to watch in my tank at home. Got another small tank today and I'm gonna house a selection of Danio's with it. Your clips on YT have broadened my understanding of these little guys and increased my liking towards them immensely. Great stuff, thanks again.
How about trying some Empire Gudgeon Gobies? I just picked up a young pair yesterday...beautiful fish...the male is already starting to show some color
maria maybe i can help you. Are they together with other fish in your tank ? If so, give them a tank on their own, because maybe they are spawning, but fry is eaten by other fish.... If that does not result in fry, then the minnows themselves may be eating the fry (in general they don't but you never know). In that case, condition the males and females in 2 seperate tanks with good food, and after conditioning put them together in the evening with plants and/or spwaning mobs and/or a mesh above the bottom. Take the adults back out the day after. Make sure they had a morning with sunlight (or artificial light). Wait for a couple of days, and you should see newborn fry. I can almost garantuee you this has to work. Barbs and danio in general are very easy to breed.
i suggest putting 2-3 dixie cups in your tank with some gravel inside them. i started with 8 and now have around 50 - 75 in less than a year. a few died and my goldfish probably ate some of the fry. i put the in two separate ponds, the minnows in 1 and goldfish in the bigger one. but the smaller one flows into the bigger one and a lot of the minnows find there way into the bigger one.
Great video as always. I picked up a group of these a few weeks ago when I set up my first little pond on my patio. It's 40-50 gallons and I have a sponge filter running in it. I was so surprised to come out the second day and find a ton of little fry ! They are doing quite well. I bought some inside to two of my tanks so I could observe them better. They love the water lettuce and water hyacinth. They are good little eaters. I was worried but they do just fine. Nice little fish. I'm glad I gave them a try. 😊
Thank you Mark.. I was one of the folks requesting a video on breeding these guys. I love WCMMs and for the price, (relatively inexpensive) I don't think you can beat 'em.. :) We're moving at the end of July, so can't really start anything until we get settled, but I can't wait to get a breeding tank set up and give it a go. Another awesome video!
I just acquired a pair of White Clouds this summer and they are still in the in-ground mini pond in my unheated garden room. I, too, live in England, S.W. Glos. I read that these fish can tolerate temps down to 5C. Do you agree and do you think they will survive the winter in outdoor temps especially at night? This morning the temp for their water was 13C . They are still doing fine. A few winters have had the surface of this pond frozen, but will they survive at the bottom if this happens this winter? Have you left some outdoors over winter? Thanks for you suggestions. Your videos are very informative, thanks a bunch!
So glad you chose this beautiful fish to breed! I also have a little group of those fishes and I really love them. But lately they won't spawn for me, have gotten only one living baby this spring. I think I have to re do my tank... Good luck with yours! And as always; very good video! Thanks!
Great video thank you for sharing your knowledge with us Mark, I was just trying to watch you big girl to see if she got thinner, but lost sight of her lol. I thought you had golf balls stuck on the bottom of the tank as they looked so perfect and lined up, I'm a fool. But looks really nice with the fish I bought a spawning mop for mine, but nothing is happening. So I am going to be giving your way a go 👍🏻👍🏻⭐️⭐️
Good to know you can breed them in tanks, i'm breeding in a little pond. What is your temperature ? Interesting to know they do not need bigger water flow (since they come from fast moving waters in nature). I have succes breeding rosy barbs in the same way. I recently bought barbus aurulius (which are not very common), and since barbs are easy to breed, i hoop to be succesful with them as well.
You don't really need a heater in your pond for White Clouds. Those cheeky little rippers can even handle it when the pond is iced over. Tough little blokes!
Very informative. I have a school of 24kt Gold White Clouds in my outdoor tub this summer and really hope they breed out for me. Thanks for sharing and as always do what you do if it works for you.
I have seen the 'wild ' type, golden and longfins of these minnows. Want all three, unless there is more different varieties as well? They used to be called poor mans neons in Norway before real neons were easy to breed.
There are also the "lini" (Tanichthys albonubes lini) these are a subspecie of the WCMM, they get slightly bigger and missing the white edges of the fins,. ua-cam.com/video/yC3kIfBN3Sk/v-deo.html
There's also the vietnamese minnows, Tanichthys micagemmae. The fish you see on this videos thumbnail are actually NOT the common WCMM, it's the vietnamese minnow as I mentioned! They have a darker black stripe on their body and slightly less color on the fins.
I have mine about 2 weeks now and they haven’t laid any eggs as far as I’ve seen. I do not have any live plants just plastic ones. Can they still spawn without live plants?
Hi Mark, great video. Have you heard of the rosy mountain minnow? I have some spawning in my 300g pond but I can't find any references to them anywhere. They fit the description of your minnows perfectly but they are solid pink. Are they likely just a colour morph of yours?
Hi mark, i'm really intrested in breeding fish, and have been with sucsess for a few years, i suffer with extreme anxiety and depression and struggle to even leave my house. I've been wondering as i know they do it alot in america, can we sell our breeding projects to our local aquariams in the UK?
Hi Mark Happy New Year to you and your family. I know that you're doing youtube is based on finances And I understand that sometimes that precludes you from having content. but like Rachel O'leary he kinda disappeared and you are sorely missed on the channel we miss your enthusiasm your insight your knowledge and your style on doing your channel. I hope that in the future you're able to return to a more consistent production of videos even if it's one a month it'd be great I hope that you're able to come back soon.
you mentioned putting them in a pond .. would they survive the winter in it? i have a heater in mine to keep it from freezing but it drops to about 45 f is the lowest ive seen it get.. also wouldn't the goldfish and koi eat them? i think they do eat some of the baby mosquito fish since something is keeping them in check lol
MARK'S AQUATICS what can I include?? Is frozen foods like bloodworms ok?? I could get daphnia... but not sure my partner will allow them in the house again!!
I´m sad today. My first Betta died last night, and I don´t know what caused it. Yesterday he did show some small signs of what looked like swimbladder disorder, but he wasn´t bloated. So I put him in shallow water, with cattapa leaves to watch. I was going to get some Epsom salt today, but since nothing seemed wrong after almost a day watching, I decided to put him back in his tank, and just skip feeding. He seemed his old self, patroling, swimming normal. But this morning he didn´t come to greet me, and I found him dead under a leaf. There is nothing to see on the fish, that gives me a clue. He was the one with the blow fins, I asked your advise on. He was my first fish, and he got me started with fishkeeping, and learning through videos/channels like yours. And I´m sad because I don´t know if it was my fault. Water was good, checked twice, and shrimp/ snail are fine. Sorry, I just had to share.
kilnimusic that’s very sad. I feel sorry for you. However, the betta is quite a challenging fish to keep. I suggest something like guppies, white clouded mountain minnows or even mollies. Betta’s need specific water parameters. And are expensive to keep.
I just bought 6 of the minnows, and 3 pygmy coras. Hope that was enough And mine are the gold ones. Im assuming there is no difference in there behavior Edit - and whats on the bottom of your tank?
If I leave 5 of these in a 10 gallon tank (1 male and 4 females I think) will they just start spawning on their own? It’s moderately planted and I have a lava rock and a little pot decoration I got from like Petco or something. They’re the only fish in the tank.
Hello Mark. Great Video. Do you have to have several males to a lone female? I’ve just separated a couple of pairs to the own tanks. Just wondering if I need to an an extra male to each tank to create trios? Thank you
I have a white cloud female that is very plump like the larger one you have. She has been like this for more than a month. Will she eventually let these eggs go, or will it affect her in some negative way to be so fat for this amount of time?
Love your vids. I have a very big white belly minnow. Preg or fat? How to tell. And if preg can I isolate a pair to get fry? When do you remove the adults? A vid dedicate to this would be great. Tx.
Breed psudomugils, the dwarf rainbows. I want to have a tank full of them with out spending a fortune. Please help me achieve my dream!!!! I have tons of white cloud fry now. Thanks
I'm surprised by this. I got some a week and a half ago and they swim over to see me when I go up to the tank to look at them, unlike my Lambchop Rasboras, who I've had ages and swim away when I get close. I thought it was just the minnows were curious, but maybe I just got lucky with mine.
Usually, when plants are dying off Tom, it's one of two or three things or a combination of things. #1) Improper lighting. #2) Improper nutrients. #3) Conversion from emerged to immersed growth .... Most aquarium plants are grown emerged or out of water. Once immersed under water, they die back and start growing new immersed leaves and stems. Provided #1 and #2 above are met. Other water parameters like PH, temperature etc.... can also affect them, but that is usually not a big deal for the more common aquarium plants.
John is correct. We call it 'melting' and the roots may survive to send out new growth so leave them alone and just clean out the dead foliage so it doesn't break down and create an imbalance in your tank. So if you move some plants or get new plants they can melt, but will regrow.
I noticed this morning, one of my females getting big.
Didn’t even realise there was this series of videos. Thank you, so much information.
Thanks for watching, and hope they help.
Your rambling is what makes your videos amazing :)
I love these fishes!! Their flaring is what made me fall for em. I hope to never run out of them 💕

I miss your very informative fish breeding videos. I’ve rewatched many of them more than a few times. Thank you for all you do on these videos.
Fantastic! I have 6 Golden clouds for about a year now...1 male and 5 fat females but I haven’t seen any signs of spawning 😣 you make it look so easy
How about trying some Empire Gudgeon Gobies? I just picked up a young pair yesterday...beautiful fish...the male is already starting to show some color
Now there a hard fish to breed as the young spend some of their time in the sea. Challenge 👍😀
MARK'S AQUATICS lmao! 😅

Their a beautiful little fish. Thanks for watching.👍😀
you sir are a very talented aquarist.
Great video, I’ve put my group of white clouds outside in a mini pond for the summer, they are doing great and my female is huge! I’m in Scotland
Very informative video. Thank you and I can't wait for part two. Love to see little fry swimming around.

I love all these breeding videos, thank you Mark. I'm just eyeing up my racks to figure out how I can squeeze in more tanks for all of the species :)
Thanks for another great video. Lovely breed of fish.

You don't really need a heater in your pond for White Clouds. Those cheeky little rippers can even handle it when the pond is iced over.
Tough little blokes!
Thank you, very interesting. Think I'm going to give this a go!
Top quality content as always. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and appreciate the time and energy you put into them. Cheers!
Another great breeding video as always. Keep up the great work, Mark.
I am looking to know more about otocinclus breeding. Mark could you please help with that
Very informative. I have a school of 24kt Gold White Clouds in my outdoor tub this summer and really hope they breed out for me. Thanks for sharing and as always do what you do if it works for you.
3 months later, did they spawn?
Can we use hydrilla verticillata plant for breeding ?..please help me on this which plant is suitable for breeding mountain minnows

Yep that's true forgot the Vietnamese, told Mark before that he used a thumbnail of the Vietnamese instead of the common WCMM, he knows it now.
I have mine about 2 weeks now and they haven’t laid any eggs as far as I’ve seen. I do not have any live plants just plastic ones. Can they still spawn without live plants?

I've seen the golden white cloud minnows they have a red tinge to them. Maybe It's them? 👍😀
Great video Mark! I hope that you have found your marbles again ??? All the best.
Marbles....Drainage layer..!! Lol..Ty !! 💡💡💡
Thanks Mark!
Neat little fish
These "how to breed" videos are so cool. THANKS for doing them Mark!!! BTW.... how's the back getting on???
It's slowly getting better. 👍😀
I'm so glad you are doing these breeding videos. I have learned so much from them.
Hi mark, i'm really intrested in breeding fish, and have been with sucsess for a few years, i suffer with extreme anxiety and depression and struggle to even leave my house. I've been wondering as i know they do it alot in america, can we sell our breeding projects to our local aquariams in the UK?

Butifull!! Thank you.
You're amazing!!! You heard my plea!!!
Thanks for the info Mark, well done, but the thumbnail picture is of the Vietnamese White Cloud not the Chinese.
How long do the fries grow to adulthood?
you mentioned putting them in a pond .. would they survive the winter in it? i have a heater in mine to keep it from freezing but it drops to about 45 f is the lowest ive seen it get.. also wouldn't the goldfish and koi eat them? i think they do eat some of the baby mosquito fish since something is keeping them in check lol
You can keep them outside for the summer but you'll have to bring them in for the winter in the UK.
prolly the same in the us to im sure .. think it would be to hard to catch them in my pond so i wont put them in there lol
I have to pay my local Maidenhead a visit, been after these for a while
Can I breed with 2 minnows and what signs means a minnow is laying
Hey Mark! Thank you for the video!
How often do they breed?? Do they breed all year round?
Thank you
Indoors they will breed all year round as long as they're well fed on high protein rich food. 😀👍
MARK'S AQUATICS what can I include?? Is frozen foods like bloodworms ok?? I could get daphnia... but not sure my partner will allow them in the house again!!
Live bloodworm is best but frozen is ok.
Great video!!

I have a fish breeding tank do I put the male and females in together
Do you have to put the tank light on to make them lay eggs or will the sunlight do
Can they survive the ABQ winters in a pond?
could i do this in a 40 litre rubber/plastic tub? stick a cycled filter and heater in there, and some live plants
Hello sir... at what temperature do the eggs hatch... and can I raise the fries in cold water??
Great vid! What is the temp that you are keeping the tank at while they are spawning?
24 degrees Celsius 😀👍
I just bought 6 of the minnows, and 3 pygmy coras. Hope that was enough
And mine are the gold ones. Im assuming there is no difference in there behavior
Edit - and whats on the bottom of your tank?

I've never seen them schooling directionally like tetras, do yours do that when in a big group? Or maybe he when there's a bigger fish around?
I'm breeding the same fish here now lol
Do u think corys will eat the eggs or could the right substrate prevent it?
Can I breed golden white clouds and normal white clouds?
I have a white cloud female that is very plump like the larger one you have. She has been like this for more than a month. Will she eventually let these eggs go, or will it affect her in some negative way to be so fat for this amount of time?

Not heard of a white belly minnow. Or is a white cloud mountain minnows. ?
Yup, White cloud
Have you still got them fish
Water tds and temperature?
hey mark could you do one on barbs ?
Hi Mark, love the video. Would a man made spawning mop of wool work as well?
Yes they work fine. 😊👍
Any update video on the neons? :)
Coming soon Freddy.👍😀
Hi Mark ... Does this method work with Cardinal Tetras ? I've been trying to breed Cardinal Tetras for a while but no luck so far.
Will this work will fathead minnows
My white clouds dont want to eat what should I do?
What are you going to feed the babies?
Infusoria. I have a video on how to culture them in my playlists.
Great video again and I am stuck for choice what to try and breed have you ever done Congo tetras
Yes the video is in my playlists 😊👍
@@MARKSAQUATICS OK thanks will check it out and your the man on fish breeding awsome
dang, i have a betta in my 10g with my minnows, i wonder if they would spawn..
They will but your betta will eat the eggs and fry. Best to put them in a separate tank for breeding 😀👍
I don't know why you have 1 or 2 mill subs I hope the best for your chanlle
Thank you Arya.😊👍
I used to have my minnows with my ciclid but just put them in a separate tank
Is it true White Cloud minnows are becoming extinct?
Excellent channel friend ! Subd !!
Thanks for subscribing 😀👍
Breed psudomugils, the dwarf rainbows. I want to have a tank full of them with out spending a fortune. Please help me achieve my dream!!!! I have tons of white cloud fry now. Thanks
java mass is like love bed
So are they pretty much ready to breed straight from the shop are they
Yes Their fed well . All you have to do is pick some nice plump females and males and your away.
Will dainty corys eat the young
I still can't count. How Many are there in your tank??
if I want to keep these but don't want to spawn them, would i keep all males so there's no spawning or fighting over females, or is that a bad idea?
You could keep a few males together if you wanted to no problem.
Will 2 females spawn without a male? I put 2 in a tank and it looks like they both dropping eggs
Females will drop eggs without a male being present
@@MARKSAQUATICS thanks mark.. Appreciate the quick response
No problem 😊
Mark do they like cold water or hot water?
Hi. They can withstand temperatures of 17c to 27c but they breed best at around 25c .
Can i use heavily planted tank instead of java moss to breed them?
Can you put these with kuhli loaches
Yes they'll be fine with white cloud mountain minnows.
Would they eat the white cloud eggs
How are you able to buy fish one day & get them to spawn the next day ??????????????????
You have to find adults, or fish that people have returned as they've outgrown the tank or they give up the hobby.
i have white clouds but when they see me they quickly hide at the top of the tank, yours dont, i wonder why
Have you had them long?
I'm surprised by this. I got some a week and a half ago and they swim over to see me when I go up to the tank to look at them, unlike my Lambchop Rasboras, who I've had ages and swim away when I get close. I thought it was just the minnows were curious, but maybe I just got lucky with mine.
I thought they just freak like guppies?
Where can I buy these?
Your local fish store will sell them or get them for you.
MARK'S AQUATICS found some, thanks. Very informative.
You know these fish don't require a heater they thrive in colder water
No but to spawn them a little heat does the trick.
My plants are turning to brown mush 😬🤔 can anyone help please.
Usually, when plants are dying off Tom, it's one of two or three things or a combination of things. #1) Improper lighting. #2) Improper nutrients. #3) Conversion from emerged to immersed growth ....
