I purchased this vehicle from a collector near Cleveland Ohio. When describing the car to me, a few statements did not seem to “add up”. However, the pictures, rarity, and condition of the Buick was apparent. Now I needed to get the facts sorted out.
Initially, the name of the original owner given was a Buick Executive in Canada, plausible for a custom made Buick by Fisher. However, I found, among other wonderful accessories, a wisk broom in the glove box. Yes, the case had a Buick logo stamped as well as the initials T.C. Gartshore. After a long search, I found Mr. Thomas C. Gartshore in the 1940 Census.
Several facts about Mr. Gartshore made me believe that this may indeed be his car. Gartshore was the President of his company. Mr. Gartshore lived In a Township called Gartfield Heights, an exclusive area known as Cuyahoga Ohio. This location was an hour’s drive from Cleveland! Thomas was married and would have been 30 when he ordered this Buick.
Somewhat satisfied that the above fits the original owner, I still question the configuration of the body. Town cars were usually configured with the Chauffeur in the open driving position usually with leather upholstery. However, the back of a Town car was almost always a limousine.
The Listing of this car as presented by the “then owner”, had this:
