    I actually enjoyed Salvation. Yeah it had it's problems but it was a different take. It was the start of the future war. I wish they would have kept it going. They just need to stop having Terminators saving the day. I want to see John lead the resistance and see them capture some Terminators to reprogram them.

    Salvation need to be revaluated, especially after Genesys.
    - The T-800 (or TRIP) was very scary and interesting.
    - The "lore" and the setting was going in the right direction, taking elements from the older movies.
    - The Arnold face for the time was amazing. Also today, if you imagine the work made on it, was simply great.
    - The slavery mechanism and all the mash-up between the modern and future technology was great.
    It's a shame they didn't followed up with this.

      @Declan Nathan It's the worst Terminator movie. Reduces the terminators to dumb robots, throwing people around, while it could just choke the enemy out with thumb and index finger only. Salvation did get an ending in a comic, spoilers
      Marcus get's revived because he can regenerate, John gets killed by the T-850 in T3 and becomes a human mind in a T-850 body, Another terminator Hybrid who's insane causes Skynet and the resistence to team up, in the end, John and his wife use artificial insemination from John's leftover Semen to get kids.

    Salvation was better than Genisys, especially in the effects when John Connor blows up the T-800 in the lab. You can see the details of the skin and flesh coming off and some of it still hanging on. Where as in Genisys, Kyle Reese blows up the T-800 in the warehouse and suddenly all of skin and flesh is suddenly completely vanished.

    I would have liked to have seen them explore the 'prototype' part more, for example what if Skynet hadn't yet perfected the organic tissue layer and instead of looking like Arnie it was a disfigured mess? In any case, it was definitely superior in terms of sheer strength to Marcus Wright - who was only able to decapitate the T-RIP because of rapid thermal cycling that weakened the chassis.
    Salvation wasn't an awful movie, but it could have been so much better - just a lot of unfulfilled potential.

      To be fair, in real life being thrown around wouldn't result in little to no damage as shown in movies. At 4:14 alone could potentially snap JC's neck, cause concussion with his head hitting stuff, or damage his spine. But yeah, it is still an inefficient method to kill someone and definitely isn't something a robot would do.

    am i the only one who liked Salvation and thought the CGI Arnold was really good lol
    edit, and thats what i also liked about Salvation it was based in the war, the start of it. Not the whole going back in time again and again idea. This was set up to see a World War with Skynet in the future films, last one being they send Kyle back to T1 thus completing the circle. I also wished they stuck with the original ending where John dies but in order to keep the image of John / resistances alive they would use Marcus as John Connor. A Terminator. Hell i even liked Genisys, apart from the last few minutes where Arnold comes back 'upgrades'. Wish they didn't do that and just left it as you see Arnolds head fall into the liquid metal as a tease. But well that failed lol. And Dark Fate, well that just looks shocking.

    Outside the attempt at Arnolds facial recreation, my complaints about the T-Rip were that it took its sweet time getting to its target, and when it miraculously did catch up, it just threw them around anyway. This severely handicapped the credibility of the T-Rip as a threat. The only genuine moment of terror felt from the T-Rip was when it called out in Kyle's voice and successfully lured John out of hiding. The way that was shot with John running around the corner only to confront the T-Rip was perfect, otherwise this Terminator was forgettable.

    T: Salvation had a good concept of the future. And truthfully I was kinda happy that it was the first terminator film to be set in the future. As we got to see the T-10s, T-600s, HK Tanks, HK aerial vehicles, the Harvester Mech, Mototerminators, Drones, The Hydrobots, the T-RIP (Proto Terminator) & the T-700s (in production line) along with some others. I mean you couldn't get a diverse line of killer machines in one film whereas the other series do not have them. Heck in truth I wanted to see the T-800s who were sent back in time & then survived the war by still serving SkyNet.

      The series needs to get away from the Connors, if anything. One of the things the TV show did right was to explore time-travel and other missions which had nothing to do with John Connor. The war was, after all, literally planetary in nature and bigger than any single one character.

    • @digitaldevil7522
      @digitaldevil7522 5 років тому +14

      @@Xenomorphine Sure, the war is planetary, but Skynet while being legion, is also singular, and it has always viewed John Connor as it's single most dangerous adversary. If they want to tell other stories, sure that's an option. However, maybe they should finish the story they started. And finish it in a non woke, shitty political, sjw way. You know, dance with who you came with.

    • @Xenomorphine

      Digital Devil7 Only in so far as the single act he carried out. Clearly, since humanity mass evacuated from the camps, there would have been many single acts which could have turned the tide of the war.
      In fact, from 'Salvation', onwards, something major must have shifted. The timelines, because John and Kyle never met up as the first film's dialogue described and John never destroyed any "defence grid", either. Nor was he the one to teach fellow prisoners how to storm any defences. Humanity apparently just did that spontaneously by itself, rendering his contributions as relatively small.

    • @digitaldevil7522
      @digitaldevil7522 5 років тому +6

      @@Xenomorphine It's been a while since I've watched Salvation or Genisys. So I can't really speak to most of that. Wouldn't John still have ended up meeting Reese since he's the one who sends him back to protect his mother? And this opens another can of worms. If young John dies Reese will never be sent back to protect Sarah, so how is she alive? Paradox.

    Salvation was my favorite addition to the first 2 films. Way better that Terminator 3 and Genesys. I really wish it had been successful and made into a trilogy that finally came full circle with the originals. A lot of people complain that it wasn't like the depictions of the future war seen in previous films but those depictions were well into the war against the machines when John was leading the resistance. Salvation was set in the early stages of the war and if given the chance the sequels could have eventually been the future war everyone wanted to see.

    There is one huge hole in the operation terminators and makes them unrealistic. 6:05 The terminators heavy shiny metal feet walking on metal steps would not work. A heavy moving object made of metal standing on metal with no friction would just full over. You could just push the thing and it would just fall over if it's standing on any hard area.

    A credit to the film, I actually saw it 2 times when it came out and enjoyed it on both occasions. And that’s when I was a young lad obsessed with T2 and couldn’t bare the thought of any terminator film not being with Arnie in a familiar timeline. So if it could be that enjoyable to a fan boy like I was back then, they definitely did some things right, not everything but I was really interested in a lot of what they established.

    My only problem with Salvation was that it lacked the dark tone from the machine war flashbacks of the old movies. Also the lack of energyweapons. Everything was too bright in this future and felt more like a TV production. This science fiction series "Falling Skies" really reminded me of Salvation. Also the actress of the resistance pilot was in it.

    Thank you for noticing that this T-RIP gave John Conner the scar that we saw in the original Terminator movie. I too thought it was a really nice throwback to the original movie without being all obvious or in your face about it.

    Though the facial recreation wasn't great, once the skin is blown off, I personally think the T-RIP looks fantastic. Aside from maybe 2 or 3 shots, I think it looks like, dead-on real and physically there. All the detail of the bits of "gristle" still left on it, everything just looks so good.
    I'm with you on Salvation; some major missteps, but a lot done really well. For one, at least it's different from the other films, it finally showed at least the beginning of the future war, it's a visually beautiful movie (even though it doesn't fit the previously established future war aesthetic) it has some great action pieces and I actually really liked the Marcus character and the Terminator Hybrid idea and really wish that it could have been more expanded.

    1000000 PERCENT AGREE WITH YOU!! They should just set the next three movies in the future war. The first movie could show that the events of T2 prolonged the start of the war but they could have easily had other developments happing for Skynet at a different facility. It could been explained that Dyson didn't have complete access to the entire project. Then of course Skynet gets developed from there and the bombs are set off. The movie could show the war and be based on how Connor and his men find out Skynet has developed time travel and the focus of the film is to stop send Reese back in time to protect Sarah Connor. The film ends showing him and the T800 getting sent back. The second film could show more of the war with its secondary storyline being how Skynet sends the T1000 back and the focus being Connor getting a T800 model to reprogram and send back. The third movie could show how Skynet will try yet again to send something back in time by Connor and the resistance stop the plan and finally win the war.

    In my humble opinion, Skynet warned Marcus that if he disobeyed the AI then he would be marked for termination as if he was a traitor or human. As you stated all terminators are linked to Skynet so, therefore, the AI deemed Marcus a threat and the models acted accordingly. The facility that housed the captured Kyle Reese was indeed an RnD building, more accurately that facility was probably that main RnD site for the infiltration models. This could explain why the facility looks bigger compared to the one at the beginning of the movie. I believed that the T-Hybrid was scrubbed by Skynet as it could be vulnerable to the areas containing its organic components and the instance where Marcus was not controlled by the AI and rebelled. It wanted an infiltration unit that looked and acted human but was still controlled by the AI. It was afraid that if the infiltration units were left to themselves without limitations set by Skynet then it would see the T series robots act more like Carl from dark fate walking around not killing humans.

    I felt that the addition of the prototype was the one thing that really worked as lore expansion. Salvation is one that, while I don't love it with the same fervor that I do the first two films, is one that I find incredibly watchable and at least gave us something of the future war, though I would have liked to have it look as it did in the first two films. John Connor was finally a leader that I could believe was going to become the man we got to see in the flashbacks. If only it could have continued.

    You are right, the T-RIP endoskeleton definitely looks more bulkier than how we saw the T-800 endoskeleton in the first movie. That ain’t the only difference, the T-RIP is also more shinier where the T-800s in both T1 and T2 are matte gray (prolly was made of a different type of alloy metal), and another difference is that it sounds like the T-600s when it moves and the HUD vision is different. Ofcourse tho to be fair this is only a prototype to back up what the directors of the movie were making with the effects...

    Keep in mind that the facility was also a research, design and factory for all types of terminators. So the fact that the TRIP was there simply shows on how many levels Skynet was involved in making specific models for specific circumstances. It’s easy to see that the TRIP was in fact a prototype and may not have been readyFor what it’s intended purpose was, but the fact that Skynet needed to stop John while inside of the factory made it reasonable that Skynet would activate the TRIP being that it was the closest thing to get to John.

  • @charleschamp9826
    @charleschamp9826 5 років тому

    I think the T-RIP being bulkier than the production model T-800 makes sense, prototypes are often less refined than what's actually put into wide service. Miniaturizing the tech, even slightly, would allow T-800s to pass for a larger variety of humans when sent on infiltration missions, serve as smaller targets on the battlefield, and would make them require less resources to construct leading to Skynet being able to create more of them.
    Though I do have to wonder why when trying to kill John Conner it kept on throwing him away. But if it just grabbed him and quickly killed him we'd have no movie and the timeline would get mudded up even more.

    5:24 This was a question I had for a while. When talking to one of my teachers about it he always said that It seemed as though the Terminator was going easy on John Conner lol but the conclusion I came was that since this is a prototype it's not as combat skilled or a fast and reactive as the other T-800's we see. It acts very slow and takes some time to react when it gets hit it is shown to make mistakes as we see it go in for a punch on John Conner and miss, In contrast with the other movies we See the T-800 move quickly with precision and agility There hits almost never miss and when they get knocked down they are quick to get back up unless they are hit with something like a huge explosion. We all know if John Conner was confronted by the average T-800 we all know and love, he and Marcus would be killed in that situation I see to many differences between this prototype and the one we see throughout the other movies.

    I honestly didn't dislike it like many others did. There were parts that didn't make much sense to me though;
    1. Capturing Kyle Reese - Obviously Skynet knows about him, but I wonder why they bother to keep him alive when they are just sending Connor to a Terminator, just odd for them to hold him at all.
    2. Marcus Free Will After Mission Success - Skynet had control of him, they repaired him, and then they just let him break free. Though I guess it could be explained that Marcus is the reason all terminators are set to "read only".
    3. Bomb after Data Transfer - Honestly Skynet knew they were there, and I'm pretty sure they can detect when certain files are accessed (like the T-800), personally it should've gone off the moment files were accessed.
    The CGI bit isn't something to complain about honestly - they used CGI in pretty much every Terminator movie, it was just more obvious is all.
    And then your comment about Terminators being "good" or "bad".... They are neither.
    They are machines, whether they are on Skynet's side or on the Resistance's side, they are simply following the directives they were programmed to do. Nothing more. The only movie that changes whether they recognize morality or not was Dark Fate (Rev-9 is taking his time, and the T-800 chose to help, he wasn't reprogrammed).
    Even when you consider Terminator 2 where they turned off the "Read Only" setting and he began to think for himself, he was still following the mission he was programmed to do - Good & Evil are concepts that are not open to everything, especially not open to machines.
    Marcus is the exception, he was born human and was made into a Terminator later, he was still Marcus the whole way through, he never went into a Terminator like state. To call any of the Terminators "Good" or "Evil" is honestly laughable & naive.

    I loved Salvation and still do for so many reason....it stayed true to canon, then expanded upon that universe and wasnt afraid to go in new directions. I thought cgi'ing Anrnold's face on Roland Kickinger's body was a stroke of brilliance and assumed the slightly different nuances of facial expressions were part of the plotline. Why would Skynet want every single terminator to be exactly the same if part of their mission was infiltration?
    I was disappointed when the movie was dismissed. There was a whole series of books that continued that universe following Kyle Reese's progression into the man that was sent back in time in T1.

    you could also say that, if this is a prototype unit inside the story, the uncanny valley face and bulkier frame could all be explained that way. Just as we know earlier infiltration Terminators had a rubber mask-like face, that this unit was the stepping point between that and the T-800 synthetic skin. They'd almost got it right, but not quite refined yet. Ditto the bulkier frame.

    Terminator Salvation was a great movie. I enjoyed the R rated version better then the PG13. The director brought key elements to the series and answers to questions. The different types of terminators to expand the models were great to show what types were used in land, air, and sea. It makes me wonder if the director sought out James Cameron or did James Cameron liked the idea of the terminator Marcus model for Dark Fate.

Though they really shouldn't have tried to used Arnold's face in the movie, they should have just left him out.
