I just realized something odd I enjoy about Luetin videos. The audio levelling is so consistent that I can always put on Luetin content at exactly the same volume and it'll never sound too quiet or too loud at any point. Like a comfy blanket of horrific distopia.
Kryptman: I did it! I lured a hive fleet into Octarius! Inquisition: The Ork infested Octarius? Kryptman: Yes. Inquisition: The race that is dependent on war to survive and the bigger the fight the more Orks come? Kryptman: Yes. Inquisition: You led the Tyranids to them? Kryptman: Yes. Inquisition: …. Kryptman: So now do I…. Inquisition: You’re fired.
The Orks still need an industrial base. Given that the Nids can infest planets too, we could have an everlasting war/stalemate if the Hive fleet was defeated. So Kryptman was correct.
@@lolroflroflcakes It's wrong, please point me to any possible alternative that wouldn't have been worse. Orks don't need outside factions for war, that line of logic is flawed. They war neverendlingly amongst themselves whenever no other races are nearby. They don't just magically get stronger without limit from being attacked, if they did then there'd be absolutely no way for any faction to ever beat an ork army. And yes the Imperium (and all the other factions) routinely purge them from planets/systems. War makes *individual* ork bosses stronger, assuming they survive it. Its how megabosses are created; it's self-regulating, because the biggest orks constantly kill eachother to vie for control of the waaagh. The Tyranids are the perfect counter to them; both the ork empire and the hive fleet were threats that had a great chance of destroying the Imperium. Instead they're busy with eachother, slowly burning away supplies and resources. Entropy means that they can't keep replenishing their forces forever, they'll bleed all those planets dry (and eachother's forces) of all minerals and biomass eventually. This isn't a permanent solution, but it gives the Imperium decades to prepare for whichever faction emerges victorious. Time that they absolutely did not have if the Hive Fleet hadn't been redirected. Time that they're spending fortifying neighboring systems, raising armies, and running special ops to study/sabotage both foes.
No longer boredom will ever be in front of them again. I'm actually surprised more orks or not heading over to the sector of space they happen to be in with the tyranids.
I just want you to know Leutin that you helped forge amazing friendships in Afghanistan. When we weren't on our shifts we would watch your videos and rave on and on about 40k lore. Now we send each other pictures of our armies and paint schemes whenever we have an itch to talk to one another. Thank you so much for helping me introduce some of the most diverse and amazing men I've ever met to the 40k universe.
He did exactly one thing wrong. He didn’t order evacuations of the planets he burned to stall the Tyranids. The resulting refugee crisis would have been a lot to handle, but preserving as much human life as possible would have been the right thing to do. Plus this is the Imperium, menials turned refugees would just starve or be converted into servitors anyway. Would have saved a lot of lives in Administratum, nobility, Adeptus Mechanicus, Planetary Defense Forces, and other more specialized and trained people though.

Burned earth until a new Battlefleet could be redeployed to deal with the hivefleet. Now the Segmentum battlefleet sacrifice only bought the imperium some time because either the hivefleet will regain its full strength (or gets even stronger) or there will be a massive WAAAAGH.
@@Turnil321 but it's a problem that can be balanced with significantly less material cost. The Nids start winning, attack them a little bit, if the Orkz start winning attack them a little bit.
@@somethinglikethat2176 The Imperium is not precise & quick & knowledgeable enough to make such balancing acts. We're talking about dozens of lightyears of Okr and Tyranid infested territory, any form of scouting mission is effectively impossible. Even if accurate intel is somehow gathered, it is hard with all the warp spheghetti and administrative nonsense to get enough warriors & ships to strike while the best opportunity presents itself. Even if said military resources were gathered in time, the execution of such a campaign is difficult considering the blunt nature of most of the Imperium's military. Precision strikes are best accomplished by Adeptus Astartes strike forces, of which there are only a few chapters around Octarius. It's bound to get unbalanced at some point. It already is. The Tyranids are slowly but surely gaining the upper hand.
Both Xenos rely on biomass, landing forces only gives access to the function of their wars, they need to go full alpha legion and hit&run. Heavy strafe runs to obliterate the biomass one country sized chunk at a time. Itll take all the resources possible to get it done, but every man landed in that sector simply adds to the problem long term.
@@keeganwilliams8046 Also, the presence of Tyranids makes warp travel difficult, simply due to their psychic presence. If Imperium forces arrive for a strafing run, they may find it difficult to leave.

Kryptman was a monster who killed more humans than most Chaos incursions. But the scariest thing is that he was correct in doing so. Without his intervention, the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan would have had free reign in that sector. Kryptman is peak 40k "Lesser of Two Evils."
I really love the concept of the ORKS, of all species, coming up with such an important invention which could upend the balance of power across the galaxy to the point that the Imperium takes an interest in it. It helps emphasize that the strength of the orks is not just their physical toughness and love of fighting, but their freewheeling creativity and reckless love of experimentation.

Luetin I like many others as you have mentioned watch your videos in bed as an almost sleep aid. Which seems weird but you have a great voice and the content is interesting. As an added benefit i get to rewatch many of the vids as sometimes I am asleep for half the vids. I suspect we are roughly the same age and from the same initial era of 40k 2 edition being my absolute bread and butter with a tiny bit of 3rd edition near the end of it when i re engaged with the hobby. Would love a video on the life of a guardsman serving in a tank. maybe what each crewman goes through, the horrible conditions inside a leman russ , what they have to deal with, etc. reloading weapons, the roles they have keeping their tank going ( a little like the movie Sahara with the m3 lee tank.
Oh, absolutely the same here. The way he edits his audio to be pretty level while letting the pacing do the emphasis (instead of loud/quiet segments with some youtubers) really lends itself well to half-sleep listening.
I often watch videos like this (also on other lore and series etc) while multitasking work or chores, or when going to sleep, and I also end up rewatching a ton of videos due to either cutting it short or missing parts of it. Really enjoy his style of narration and I've fallen in love with 40k lore. I really enjoy the fact that the videos are longer and have more content in them than a lot of other youtubers videos... Long videos are probably a big no-no from the viewpoint of youtube statistics, but I really like watching one long video more than several short ones

Meanwhile, on Thanatos; Two Necron Crypteks sit at the orrery as they watch the Octarius sector. Rhamak Who Watches raises a cup like object to where his mouth would be and goes through the motion of drinking as a dark liquid flows down his face and frame, Necrons long since losing the ability to ingest substances to begin with, doesn't stop the Cryptek from the sense of normalcy with the situation. His unblinking ocular focused on the sector as conflict ebbs and flows throughout the system but never beyond it. "So..." he speaks almost hesitantly as if he had already knew how this conversation would play out. "Are we going to turn the lights out on this one or not?" Ramzah Who Waits doesn't move his gaze from the sector as if completely lost in his own ponderings replies sharply "Not yet. We do not have certainty yet."
I remember a GW staffer years ago fanficing this war while we were chatting the shit during a casual game. The outcome is either Ork Hive fleet veterans that got so beefed up by the constant battle that they become an unstoppable force adapting many Tyranid units like genestealers and lictors traits to compete with those units. So they develop weapons made of nid parts and simply got really strong as to equal the best in Tyranid deadliness. As well as adopting various toxins into their weaponry and gaining immunities from these toxins due to the constant exposure. Or you have a Hive fleet with Waaagh energy inside its hivemind. nuff said. Oh and Ork Genestealer cult.
I'm not sure Orks could be affected by a Genestealer cult so much. They are a fungus after all, there's no easy way to get the next generation of the cult our and about. ...Right?
@@FlummoxedFish I mean its orks. they reproduce from the spores of the dead right? So wouldn't they just keep fighting each other to keep spreading spores? And each generation gains a stronger strain of the gene stealer gene. It doesn't need to be via dimorphic reproduction.
@@ceresbane Pretty sure it's just that they put out spores but then a massive dump of them when they die. Guess the question is whether a Genestealer could hijack the spore process or if the spores are such that the Genestealer would need to infect them individually. If there's a race apart from the Necrons that would be immune it would be the Orks.

I think it would be ridiculous that the Genestealers could hijack the spores, but the Genestealers are already pretty darn ridiculous. Probably comes down to how much Genestealery goodness the lucky writer wants in the story.

I would live to see a book about the sector with the perspective of the Eldar looking into the system. Seeing the Orks building large planets full of Orks, the technology, the massive Orks this creates, almost reminding the Eldar of the legend of the Krorks. Massive Hive fleet that is getting to large to be contained. Creating a huge hive of synaptic distortion at the center with waves of creatures consuming planets endlessly. Then the thin military for guarding the rim of the Imperium and them trying to lose the least amount of resources as possible in an never ending grind of flesh and boltshells. I think that would be cool if the Eldar has to try and help contain this mess.
Kryptman did nothing wrong. It was ironically the inquisition’s desire to be more humane than usual that allowed for this situation to spiral out of control. Knowing what we know about tyranids, letting them burn out and denying them biomass certainly is the optimal route. Throwing soldiers into their mouths is detrimental in the long run and honestly is probably going to have a higher body count in the long run.

One of my favorite fan fictions is that of a small system in the octarus sector containing a forge and hive world allying with the Orcs: Providing them scrap and weapons in exchange for fighting the tyranids, and the Orcs get really pissy if other Orcs try to fight their humies, sayin stuff like “only we gets ta bash dere heads in. They giving us good scrap ya grot. Why ruin a good waaagh over dem bein humies?”

I was very curious about the latest developments on the Octarius War but I haven't had the chance to delve into it yet. So, thanks. This was a nice surprise.
Maybe this is the end of WH40K franchise too, there is no way unless a fleet of hundreds of human capital ships from The Age of Technology, similar to the unfinished ships that Adeptus Mechanicus has on MArs that can shoot Black Holes by some way travel to future and unlease volley of Black holes to other faction to save humanity.
A story from the perspective of the Tyranids would be difficult but doable. For example, and if I'm not mistaken, the norn queens do maintain a sort of psychic conference with one another in order to share data on biomorph and bioform development. It would be interesting if they "argued" over efficacy and had a ingrained biological need to compete with and try and out do the others brood adaptions. A competitive work place environment certainly would be relatable despite Tyranids being completely alien in most other aspects.

My guess: the crown will allow a powerful warboss to gain momentum and start putting the Tyranids on the backfoot. To both cripple his Waagh and re-establish the stalemate, a team of special Imperial forces will have to undertake a suicide mission to kill said warboss and destroy the crown for good. And thus, the only weapon truly capable of defeating the Tyranid menace will be lost forever. #Inevitable
Went out and bought the hardbacks for the Dark Imperium trilogy some months ago, Leutin bringing me back to being a reading fellow once again, thank you sir. I've not gotten too far, but from what I've read it has been quite enjoyable so far!

@Greg Fisher eh yeah no, the tau are bloody useless in glorious melee plus they have a vagina built right into their heads which I guess slaaneshy deamons or followers would enjoy but me personally I'll take a pass and instead continue to shed blood and present skulls to almighty khorn. Oh P.S. I enjoyed seeing the Death Guard pulverize an entire tau fleet with very little effort, it was entertaining and even khorne himself was laughing his ass off.
I like hearing about the tau, but they almost don't fit into Warhammer. Or they fit but going forward with what they've established so far seems difficult. Kinda feels like just an excuse to add japanese style mechs and stuff into Warhammer without too much thought into what it means to add a race of xeno that advance extremely quickly in a galaxy stuck technologically
@@thedarkcorrupter their darkness comes from their naivete and the loss of innocence. Stories involving them should be ones that confront their idea of a greater good. But everyone just decides they don't fit the setting and crap all over them. I mean, out of all the 40k races only the Orks and nidds aren't grim dark themselves. They are forces that are used to enhance the darkness of the setting.

Excellent idea with Dark Imperium, Plague War and Godblight - I just finished Dark Imperium and going on to Plague War, (after a Ciaphas Cain book) and Ill definitely be done by the end of the year - looking forward to that and more Octarius stuff!

I have to say that it would be extremely interesting to read a story from the tyranid perspective. Imagine a story similar to the story of specimen 6 from Alien VS Predator, following some specific tyranid as he tears through orks & imperials alike!
I’ve been watching/listening to your videos for many months now and I can honestly say I’d rather listen to your explanations of the lore in my free time than do pretty much anything else! I don’t play or paint miniatures but you’re gradually encouraging me every day to take a deep breath and finally walk into the Warhammer store - which is literally next door to the shop where I work. Thank you for the clearly immeasurable effort and dedication you put into these incredible works. I would love to hear you reading more from the books, particularly those that are no longer in print. It's always the same story pattern: The empire is attacked hard and without warning, victories can only be achieved with superhuman effort and high losses, the empire is in desperate retreat battles and now and then barbaric and inhuman means are used to have any chance of victory. - It would be nice if the authors would come up with something new.
Luetin: “Stubfingers quickly bested the Imperium by fooling them into thinking captured ships were still under the Imperium’s control…” Well that’s unlike the Orks. Luetin: “…thereby using them as weapons, crashing the ships into defensive Mechanicus stations-to the glee and humor of the Orks, who thought the entire situation was hilarious.” Aaah, there we go.
A story told from the Tyranid perspective. That would be an interesting read. Closest I can think of was the lictor's infiltration of the Blood Angels' Arx Angelicum on Baal. While brief it was rather enjoyable.
I think the only way you can write a long form tyranid tale is through the eyes of a survivor or refugee. They are meant to be the most inhuman alien- more a sentient mysterious force of nature than individuals. The very act of writing from their perspective would either overly humanize their thoughts or read as too logic or animalistic to be enjoyable. Thus any story about them should read more like an HP lovecraft work of a survivor that faces the unknowable threat. A conspiracy thriller as a detective discovers a genestealer cult and pursues it thinking they are chaos worshipers only to uncover the extent of their influence and distinct worship. However at the end the fleet arrives and ravages the planet like an eldritch God. Either way the problem with tyranids is their thing is "look how absolutely inhuman we are" which prevents writing relatable villains(key in grimdsrk) or giving any compelling motivation on an individual scale
Luetin, I think I’ve maybe ever commented on 2 videos ever, but just wanted to say how much I appreciate an enjoy your videos. You singlehandedly got me interested in Warhammer40k which has rapidly become my all-time favorite universe. One ask though: can you delve into the Dune Universe?
I have been using Audible for a couple months now and the free credit is nice. My first month, I got Storm of Iron, about the Iron Warriors taking over Hydra Cordatis in order to secure a stock of geneseed. I actually did read the novel in the past and it was a good story but I had forgotten a lot of it so I used my credit on that. Been listening on the drive to work and back and got about 4 hrs left to go. As great as I remember it!

He did exactly one thing wrong. He didn’t order evacuations of the planets he burned to stall the Tyranids. The resulting refugee crisis would have been a lot to handle, but preserving as much human life as possible would have been the right thing to do. Plus this is the Imperium, menials turned refugees would just starve or be converted into servitors anyway. Would have saved a lot of lives in Administratum, nobility, Adeptus Mechanicus, Planetary Defense Forces, and other more specialized and trained people though.

Kryptman did the right thing. The Segmentum Battlefleet was decimated just defeating HALF of a Hive Fleet. How else do you stop/delay the other half?
Burned earth until a new Battlefleet could be redeployed to deal with the hivefleet.
Now the Segmentum battlefleet sacrifice only bought the imperium some time because either the hivefleet will regain its full strength (or gets even stronger) or there will be a massive WAAAAGH.

We're talking about dozens of lightyears of Okr and Tyranid infested territory, any form of scouting mission is effectively impossible. Even if accurate intel is somehow gathered, it is hard with all the warp spheghetti and administrative nonsense to get enough warriors & ships to strike while the best opportunity presents itself. Even if said military resources were gathered in time, the execution of such a campaign is difficult considering the blunt nature of most of the Imperium's military. Precision strikes are best accomplished by Adeptus Astartes strike forces, of which there are only a few chapters around Octarius.
It's bound to get unbalanced at some point. It already is. The Tyranids are slowly but surely gaining the upper hand.

Both Xenos rely on biomass, landing forces only gives access to the function of their wars, they need to go full alpha legion and hit&run. Heavy strafe runs to obliterate the biomass one country sized chunk at a time. Itll take all the resources possible to get it done, but every man landed in that sector simply adds to the problem long term.

Kryptman was a monster who killed more humans than most Chaos incursions. But the scariest thing is that he was correct in doing so. Without his intervention, the Tyranids of Hive Fleet Leviathan would have had free reign in that sector. Kryptman is peak 40k "Lesser of Two Evils."
I really love the concept of the ORKS, of all species, coming up with such an important invention which could upend the balance of power across the galaxy to the point that the Imperium takes an interest in it. It helps emphasize that the strength of the orks is not just their physical toughness and love of fighting, but their freewheeling creativity and reckless love of experimentation.
To be honest there is so much ork in octarius that their intelligence Gained a boost, in any other situation the ork tech would bê normal

Luetin I like many others as you have mentioned watch your videos in bed as an almost sleep aid. Which seems weird but you have a great voice and the content is interesting. As an added benefit i get to rewatch many of the vids as sometimes I am asleep for half the vids. I suspect we are roughly the same age and from the same initial era of 40k 2 edition being my absolute bread and butter with a tiny bit of 3rd edition near the end of it when i re engaged with the hobby.
Would love a video on the life of a guardsman serving in a tank. maybe what each crewman goes through, the horrible conditions inside a leman russ , what they have to deal with, etc. reloading weapons, the roles they have keeping their tank going ( a little like the movie Sahara with the m3 lee tank.

Oh, absolutely the same here. The way he edits his audio to be pretty level while letting the pacing do the emphasis (instead of loud/quiet segments with some youtubers) really lends itself well to half-sleep listening.

I often watch videos like this (also on other lore and series etc) while multitasking work or chores, or when going to sleep, and I also end up rewatching a ton of videos due to either cutting it short or missing parts of it. Really enjoy his style of narration and I've fallen in love with 40k lore. I really enjoy the fact that the videos are longer and have more content in them than a lot of other youtubers videos... Long videos are probably a big no-no from the viewpoint of youtube statistics, but I really like watching one long video more than several short ones

I remember a GW staffer years ago fanficing this war while we were chatting the shit during a casual game.
The outcome is either Ork Hive fleet veterans that got so beefed up by the constant battle that they become an unstoppable force adapting many Tyranid units like genestealers and lictors traits to compete with those units. So they develop weapons made of nid parts and simply got really strong as to equal the best in Tyranid deadliness. As well as adopting various toxins into their weaponry and gaining immunities from these toxins due to the constant exposure.
Or you have a Hive fleet with Waaagh energy inside its hivemind. nuff said. Oh and Ork Genestealer cult.
I'm not sure Orks could be affected by a Genestealer cult so much.
They are a fungus after all, there's no easy way to get the next generation of the cult our and about.

I love luetin’s content because it’s the best channel to learn lore from and when I have trouble sleeping(like now) he can tell me a grim dark bedtime story with his amazing voice
I would live to see a book about the sector with the perspective of the Eldar looking into the system. Seeing the Orks building large planets full of Orks, the technology, the massive Orks this creates, almost reminding the Eldar of the legend of the Krorks. Massive Hive fleet that is getting to large to be contained. Creating a huge hive of synaptic distortion at the center with waves of creatures consuming planets endlessly. Then the thin military for guarding the rim of the Imperium and them trying to lose the least amount of resources as possible in an never ending grind of flesh and boltshells. I think that would be cool if the Eldar has to try and help contain this mess.
Kryptman did nothing wrong. It was ironically the inquisition’s desire to be more humane than usual that allowed for this situation to spiral out of control. Knowing what we know about tyranids, letting them burn out and denying them biomass certainly is the optimal route. Throwing soldiers into their mouths is detrimental in the long run and honestly is probably going to have a higher body count in the long run.
How exactly do the Tyranids burn out?

One of my favorite fan fictions is that of a small system in the octarus sector containing a forge and hive world allying with the Orcs: Providing them scrap and weapons in exchange for fighting the tyranids, and the Orcs get really pissy if other Orcs try to fight their humies, sayin stuff like “only we gets ta bash dere heads in. They giving us good scrap ya grot. Why ruin a good waaagh over dem bein humies?”

I was very curious about the latest developments on the Octarius War but I haven't had the chance to delve into it yet. So, thanks. This was a nice surprise.
One additional thing, apparently the final Octarius supplement does say what happens at the end of the conflict. I don’t want to spoil it though.
Maybe this is the end of WH40K franchise too, there is no way unless a fleet of hundreds of human capital ships from The Age of Technology, similar to the unfinished ships that Adeptus Mechanicus has on MArs that can shoot Black Holes by some way travel to future and unlease volley of Black holes to other faction to save humanity.

A story from the perspective of the Tyranids would be difficult but doable.
For example, and if I'm not mistaken, the norn queens do maintain a sort of psychic conference with one another in order to share data on biomorph and bioform development. It would be interesting if they "argued" over efficacy and had a ingrained biological need to compete with and try and out do the others brood adaptions.
A competitive work place environment certainly would be relatable despite Tyranids being completely alien in most other aspects.

My guess: the crown will allow a powerful warboss to gain momentum and start putting the Tyranids on the backfoot. To both cripple his Waagh and re-establish the stalemate, a team of special Imperial forces will have to undertake a suicide mission to kill said warboss and destroy the crown for good. And thus, the only weapon truly capable of defeating the Tyranid menace will be lost forever. #Inevitable
Or a certain interested collector will come to claim his prize.....

Oh P.S. I enjoyed seeing the Death Guard pulverize an entire tau fleet with very little effort, it was entertaining and even khorne himself was laughing his ass off.
I like hearing about the tau, but they almost don't fit into Warhammer. Or they fit but going forward with what they've established so far seems difficult. Kinda feels like just an excuse to add japanese style mechs and stuff into Warhammer without too much thought into what it means to add a race of xeno that advance extremely quickly in a galaxy stuck technologically

I mean, out of all the 40k races only the Orks and nidds aren't grim dark themselves. They are forces that are used to enhance the darkness of the setting.

I have to say that it would be extremely interesting to read a story from the tyranid perspective. Imagine a story similar to the story of specimen 6 from Alien VS Predator, following some specific tyranid as he tears through orks & imperials alike!

It's always the same story pattern: The empire is attacked hard and without warning, victories can only be achieved with superhuman effort and high losses, the empire is in desperate retreat battles and now and then barbaric and inhuman means are used to have any chance of victory. - It would be nice if the authors would come up with something new.

A story told from the Tyranid perspective. That would be an interesting read. Closest I can think of was the lictor's infiltration of the Blood Angels' Arx Angelicum on Baal. While brief it was rather enjoyable.
I think the only way you can write a long form tyranid tale is through the eyes of a survivor or refugee. They are meant to be the most inhuman alien- more a sentient mysterious force of nature than individuals. The very act of writing from their perspective would either overly humanize their thoughts or read as too logic or animalistic to be enjoyable. Thus any story about them should read more like an HP lovecraft work of a survivor that faces the unknowable threat. A conspiracy thriller as a detective discovers a genestealer cult and pursues it thinking they are chaos worshipers only to uncover the extent of their influence and distinct worship. However at the end the fleet arrives and ravages the planet like an eldritch God.
Either way the problem with tyranids is their thing is "look how absolutely inhuman we are" which prevents writing relatable villains(key in grimdsrk) or giving any compelling motivation on an individual scale

After a few years of listening to 40k lore nothing else really matches the level of depth, detail and deconstruction.

I have been using Audible for a couple months now and the free credit is nice. My first month, I got Storm of Iron, about the Iron Warriors taking over Hydra Cordatis in order to secure a stock of geneseed. I actually did read the novel in the past and it was a good story but I had forgotten a lot of it so I used my credit on that. Been listening on the drive to work and back and got about 4 hrs left to go. As great as I remember it!
