I'd love to see a single video with instructions for all the necessary cleaning and how often it should be done. Hard to keep it all straight and you give great directions!
Great video, thank you. I've had the same maker for 2 years, have desclaed it a few times, but never got the light off. Even after calling Breville. It's off now!
Hi Hoon, I descaled water tank and follow instruction to push 2 cup button and power button on same time, unfortunately all the lights are on instead of power and 2 cup buttons but the clean me button didn’t on! I tried many times but still failed. What’s my problem? Appreciate for your help and advice. Tks 🙏🙏
hello from England your videos are the clearest i can find thank you for your time .I have one question . i have the sage barista English version of Breville i find it very difficult to buy the filter in the water tank so i use a filter jug for all water what is your thought on this please
great video Hoon.I push 2cups button and power button but it did not run in cleaning mode.ı tried a lot as your video but same result.Do you suggest anything in that situation?
Hi there I see you open the steamer tap sometime during the process or is it open just after you hit the single shot button can you please explain in a bit more detail We always use filtered water the solid light has never come on only the flashing light Thanks
Hi, thanks for the video. I spotted an object (brown) in your video next to your milk frother and wondering what it is, I have a guess, but need to confirm. It looks like it’s a thing where you press your coffee. Please let me know what is the name of this gadget.
Sad to say after a year and half or so of usage and being able to get into descale mode without issue my Barista Express no longer goes into descale mode. When I hold the 2 cup button and power it simply powers on as normal and then starts brewing after it heats up. Before it would go into descale mode just as shown in this video. I manually mimicked the cleaning cycle in the video so im sure it is clean, just annoying that the light is now useless to me.
My clean me light isn't solid or on at all. I just wanted to do a descale because its not acting right. Holding the 2 cup button and then holding the power button only turns thr machine on and goes into double cup expresso making mode. Can I not do a descale without this light on? My pump isn't going up into the range properly even though my coffee seems fine.
So I ran the double shot with grinds and it ran for about 16 seconds and made almost exactly 2 ounces but the pressure gauge barely moved off the lower side of pre-infusion.
I have an issue with my breville barista pro, from one day to another I have to vary my grind setting bc it keeps flowing faster and faster (my burr is set at 3 and now I'm ad grind setting 1 and 18g in per 36gr out takes about 12secons witch is extremely fast) I contacted Breville and they just told me to descale...how can limescale biuld up make the flowrate faster with finer grinded coffee? Does that make sense?
Hi Hoon been following your channel since i got the Barista express two months ago. Thanks for the videos. I am based in the UK and wished the 3D printed dosing funnel you use is available here!
I use these currently on-top of using my Brita filter water www.amazon.ca/dp/B01F3896DA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ha3fFb34PTM36 Not sure if it's too much as I know coffee needs a certain amount of minerals in water naturally
I did this exact descaling process. I replaced the cleaning water with clean water to flush the descaling solution from the machine. I got distracted by the mornings duties and I think the machine went to sleep before I go tit flushed. Not sure If I "woke it up" incorrectly or what... but now when I turn it on, the power button and the hot water/steam lights flash and they continue to flash. When I tried to enter into the descaling cycle via prescribed manner, the same power and steam lights flash. What can I do?
I like that you didn't say, "how to", in the title. Lol. Definitely might confuse some people if they're new to descaling. :). I last did it June 20. This Saturday is my scheduled full service date :). I'm also planning on changing my Brita filter in two weeks. How come you didn't use Urnex Dezcal? You get a bigger bottle of sulphamic acid.
Do you do a back flush after every use Hoon? I am curious about this as someone told me you have to back flush after every use. A back flush without the tablet.
I just want to share about descaling mode after following Breville Support web site. For bes870 that has only "Clean me" printed in front, this machine is Version 1. Just turn power on, run 1 cup, hot water and then steam.
My machine is still warm could that be why I can’t get into descale mode? Hot steam light needs to be on as well if in descale cycle but that’s not coming on and the only thing I can think if is that my machine components are still warm. I turned it off for a short while prior to starting the process. It’s the BES870xl/A model.
Hoon's Coffee it says “Clean me” only...solid red. My instruction booklet says if “clean me” is on (does solid only on this model, that means to back flush. Apparently on this older model “870XL/A”, some have updated auto “descale/clean” program within the same model number, so it’s confusing. Mine doesn’t tell you when to descale except book says monthly for hard water, and the steps are manual. Will back flush tomorrow🤪!
@@HoonsCoffee Funny enough, that's the exact goal I hit today! I finally made a shot that my wife LIKED! Like, actually LIKED LIKE! She said for once, it didn't have any notes of sour OR bitter OR both! Lol. Yes, I've pulled shots that tasted BOTH sour and bitter :S? @WilliamLee, Hoon's Coffee has some great videos about how to fix sour/bitter shots. How to adjust the Breville Barista Express grinder settings, temperature, programming, etc. Today, I found: Upper burr at 3. Grind dial 6. PID: -4 F (196 F). 18.3 g beans direct dose using CREMA COFFEE PRODUCTS' (CCP) funnel. Distribution with CCP distributor, then tamp with CCP palm tamper. 35 s shot (including pre-infusion of about 11 s). Everything was warmed up for 35 minutes before I started the process, including a blank shot into the porcelain espresso cup. Used local fire roasted beans, Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. Their "medium" roast, dark roast according to most others, lol. Not that oily, though, which is nice.
Best videos yet on how to descale the Breville espresso machine, thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I purchased this machine last October. Your videos have been so helpful! Thank you!!!

When you say “filtered water,”is high quality bottled water (arrowhead or aqua fina) the same?
I mean filter water from my refrigerator.
What if i dont hve a descaling solution? What alternative should i use?
Vinegar, I think.
every time I see light for clean me should be I do descaling or the descaling 2 times in 6 months
Descaling when light is solid not blinking.
would you recommend cleaning the shower screen w cafiza?
Just water is fine.
I cant even get my infuser in descale mode. it just keeps turning on. Any help?

Use filter water and you won’t have a problem, just do it once a year.
