After reading the booklet on descaling I was ready to throw in the trash and ignore the little light. Breville should reference your video in their booklet. “Hey guys, forget our booklet just go here!” Great video! Really, it was clear and to the point without any confusion. I saved it and now I’m going to start watching any other videos you put out. Thanks!!!
I always forget how to descale my machine and this video is a great refresher. I know the instructions are available online but for visual learners, this is the perfect video! Very clear and concise. Thank you! 😊
I am SO glad I found your video. I couldn't get it to start but after watching your video I realized I had the power on at first. It went smoothly after that. Thank you!!
Frigging BRILLIANT! We lost our manual but had bought the liquid descaler and cleaner. So grateful for your video. Simple and easy to follow. It was my first clean and descale since purchasing 3mths ago. We are heavy users of our machine so this was a huge relief it wasnt going to be an ordeal.
That’s a really cool video - you did exactly what you said, you created a good, easily understandable video on how to descale this great machine. Thanks!
Thanks so much. I did descaling and cleaning thanks to your videos, including cleaning the grinder (from your cleaning video). That was much easier than reading the manual. It was easier than I thought it was going to be.
Thank you for your video. This is the best training video I've seen for descaling a Breville Barista Express machine. FYI, the owner's manual for this machine is incorrect. They do not instruct the owner to press the power and 2 cup extraction button simultaneously, but rather to just press either the 1 cup or 2 cup button until the water tank is emptied. For 2 years, I've followed the wrong process although they both force the descaling solution through the machine.
Thank goodness for your video! You are the first one out of three I have seen that has made any sense, it is so close to the manual. Very helpful. Thank you.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate this video! I refer to it every time that descale light comes on !! I must say I feel quite proud of myself as I’m not very technical but your instructions and visuals are so helpful ....Thanks again, from Helen in New Zealand 🇳🇿
Thank you so much. I couldn't figure out how to get into descaling mode. I had it on when pressing the 2-Cup and Power, which the instructions imply it should be by saying the light will be solid on the descaling light. Thank you so so much.
Thanks for that video! This is when I found out that I never put in the water filter! 😂 I was too exited and didn’t read any instructions and after 6 month use I found out there is a water filter to install
This was great, thank you! I saw so many videos on descaling this machine, but yours is the only one that worked for me. You're the only person who said to push the 1-cup button!! Thanks again, you saved my Sunday ;)
Great tutorial! What a PITA to descale compared to Breville’s coffee maker which let’s you walk away when you start the descale function, but the video makes all of the details clear. It was good to include removing the filter also. It’s easy to overlook. Thank you caffeine adventures. I’m gonna sub.
This is my second Keurig Coffee Brewer. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first one lasted 6 years. It worked beautifully until the day it didn't. It was hard to go back to the drip coffee for a couple of days while I waited on my Keurig to get here. There is a huge difference in the taste. Keurig makes a really good cup of coffee. This new one is a little different from my old one. I find putting the water filter in was easier than on the old one. Attaching the water reservoir was also a little different but once I figured it out, it too was easier. This new one has the auto off feature but is not programmable like the old one. Only three cup sizes instead of four. The odd thing for me was how much lighter in weight this one is compared to my old one. More plastic and much less metal in the construction of this one. The price is so much less than the original Keurig that I bought and the coffee tastes the same so all in all I am satisfied.
I watched your video n descaled water tank per instruction to push 2 cup button and power button on same time, unfortunately all the lights are on instead of power and 2 cup buttons but the “clean me button “ didnt on! I tried many times but still failed. What’s my problem? Appreciate for your help and advice. Tks 🙏🙏
Yeah same here. Can you share the model number you have? (let's see how old each is!) - At the bottom. Mine is BES870/A & I couldn't run the descaling no matter how many times I tried. However, I can run 'cleaning cycle' with tablet okay.
im having trouble activating the descaling mode :( i press the 2 cup first before the power button (then both at the same time), but can't seem to activate the descaling mode still...
Thank you for this video. I already did this with the liquid the came in the box when it was new however now I have tablets that I have not used. Is that in place of the liquid? Can I use this the 2nd time around or do I need to buy this liquid descaler that came in the box originally? thx in advance!
WONDERFUL video, thank you! I read & re-read the instruction manual to no avail. This video is perfect. And, I started browsing your channel. I think you have some videos on how to make a good espresso with the Barista Express, for newbies like me. Thanks for sharing!
I found this video extremely informative and I am grateful to have the tutorial. HOWEVER, I followed the directions exactly (I used 4 oz of the liquid descaler product instead of the granulated variety). I repeated the portafilter/tank descaling, steam wand and hot water dispenser 3x, then rinsed everything 3 times. Afterwards, I washed the portafilter head and refilled the tank with fresh water and reinserted a charcoal filter, then I shut off the machine overnight. When I turned the machine on the next AM to make my espresso, the descale (solid light) was illuminated. Is there a step that I didn't do to make that light stay off? Or do I need to keep repeating that descale process until that light turns itself off? Any ideas?
Odd, for good measure go ahead and perform a backslash cleaning ( I have another video which shows this process) and see what happens.. if this doesn’t work, I would then suggest to descale it one more time.
My Breville Barista express 870 asks for vinegar water 50:50 in its manual. I do the same descaling without putting the machine in the descale mode. Start with brew head 1 cup,2 cup, steam wand, hot water spout. Repeat 3 times. Clean water tank, repeat process
just done my first descaling, thank you so much! the easiest video i reckon👍👍👍 you mention the tablet? is this the same? use the tablet instead of the sachet? thank you!
Hi there, Thank you so much for your video! I have a question that when the Clean/Descale light comes on, how can I tell which one should I do, the clean or the descaling? Or are the cleaning caplet and the descaling powder have the same effect? Thank you so much!
Gin MA Thanks for your comment.. no the functions are different. When the clean light is on solid (on all the time) it needs to be descaled and when the clean light flashes on and off then its time to clean it with the tablet on the portafilter. Hope this helps.
Caffeine Adventures I’m really confused. I have the BES870xl/A where the manual says use vinegar (older manual). I’ve used Descal for descaling in the past but I’ve lost all my notes and haven’t used my BE machine in almost two years. I have an Expobar that I use now but it needs service, not working properly. It will be a month before I get her back. Soooo, I’m back to using my Barista Express. Clean light is on and book says to back flush and I will do that. I want to also descale and there are no instructions on Breville’s page that I could dig up. All the videos make it confusing because I don’t know which model they are using, newer Express or older Express. All look same for most part. Please help!
Because there are no boilers in the machine, there is no need for soaking. Keep in mind with this type of machine, water is heated as it passes through the machine, otherwise the only storage of water is in the tank in the back. Hope this helps.
@@coffeeauthority most issues I’ve seen on cheaper coffee machines is scale building up in the pipes and stopping the pump mechanism which is just a vibrating metal bullet that is activated by an electromagnet. I forget EVERY time how to descale and I come back to your video EVERY time. Thank you!! 🙏🏼😅
I am coming back to this video everytime I need to descale! Thank you so much!😍 Will come back in 2 months...
Thanks.. make sure to watch my grinder cleaning video as well
Same
Haha - me too. I just can't remember how to do it each time. So this video helps every 2 months.

One of the better how-to videos on UA-cam. Thank you!
I’ve had this espresso machine for the past seven years and it’s a solid machine . It’s never had a problem because I clean it every time it needs .
A very clear and easy to follow video. I forget how to descale the machine and this video is a timely and accurate reminder. Thank you :)
Thank you, thank you!!! Was struggling with the instructions of the Breville manual but your video got me sorted! Spot on. Vey grateful!
Glad it helped
Agreed. The Breville manual is not so straightforward.
I always forget how to descale my machine and this video is a great refresher. I know the instructions are available online but for visual learners, this is the perfect video! Very clear and concise. Thank you! 😊
You are not alone. I forget too and come back and watch my own video :)
Where are they available online? I can only find instructions for a similar machine, but not this one!
@@Martin_Gregory page 23 mentions the cleaning cycle (blinking light), descaling (solid light) is on page 24 - www.breville.com/content/dam/breville/us/en/assets/miscellaneous/instruction-manual/espresso/BES870-instruction-manual.pdf
Love this video, literally come back to it every 2 months when I need a descale 😂😂
This was perfect! I have not found a video this clear and simple!!
THANK YOU so much! I spent all morning reading the instructions with NO good result. Your instructions are clear and very helpful.
EXCELLENT VIDEO, SHORT SIMPLE & CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS …. This is how all instructional videos should be thank you!

Happy to help!!
By far the best video of how to descale the machine. I was doing it wrong for years by fallowing the instruction videos of other users 🤦♂️

Thank you Helen. Happy new year from Texas, U.S
