This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.
It doesn't make sense to put a new filter in during the cleaning process or it will fill with descaling solution. you wait until the end to put a new water filter... You need to be changing the water filter every 3 months along with cleaning it
I have been looking for something this detailed for months. Thank you for the step by step, I was about to give up on my machine. I’m anxious to have this back up and running. More helpful than my correspondence with Breville that left me underwhelmed because I wasn’t the original owner.
@EnglertRacing96 I'm referring to the filter that goes in the middle. You can put descale solution with the old one in.. it does not HAVe to be removed during the cleaning process. But just remember to put a new one in at the end of it all. Sometimes I take it out right away so.etimes I forget until the end but as long as your not using the dirty one for coffees your good .
@@Wilwilaniyea the issue is he didn't even address or mention anything about removing or replacing the water filter with a new one. People with no knowledge of this and just simply follow his procedure will most likely not aware about that and thus will not replace the water filter as well........
Thanks for the straight fwd video, much easier than the cryptic breville manual instruction. My 878 seems to do it faster than yours, and the water coming out was much frothier, had to run a second rinse cycle to make sure it was fully clean.
Helpful, I’ll be doing my first one once I receive the order from Amazon thanks for the video the links to all the purchases and the very good video. Update:I this is in no time thanks to your video, having the links to all the products to get was extremely helpful omg thank you very much😃
Thanks, Dan. I realized in shooting that I made the mistake of leaving the water filter in the reservoir while descaling. So, I had to toss that filter and replace it. If your filter is still good (has some life left), then ideally you would remove the filter, descale, clean the reservoir and then put the filter back in place.
@@MarkFauntleroy - Excellent tutorial! Thank you!! When you say to remove the water filter, do you mean remove only the replaceable filter part? Or remove the filter with its included filter housing? I don’t know if there are sensors that detect that the housing is not installed. I just purchased my new Barista Pro, so haven’t had to descale yet. Thanks again!
@@dannymcneal The filter sits within a plastic housing in the reservoir tank. That housing connects to the bottom inside the tank. I would remove the whole filter holder with the filter in it when descaling. I don't believe there are sensors that will prevent the machine from running nor from descaling because the filter housing is removed. Good luck.
So did you fill the tank with more water when it says fill tank? Why did you start speeding up the video at that point? Did you run the descaling process a second time with even more diluted water/descaler solution?
Calming, clear, honest, helpful. Very grateful for this, particularly the real difficulties. I think you just saved me a ton of tension and sub glottal cursing. Will let you know how it goes!
Ah, sorry you need to remove the water filter BEFORE descaling. I would definitely not be using that filter again after you've run descaling solution through it!
Do I need to use the water filter if I use filtered water to fill the reservoir? I bought this 2nd hand on Ebay and I realized now that I didn't get the water filter holder nor the rubber thing you used to hold the cleaning tablet.
I thank you so much for your video. I guess I'm a bad owner of my Breville pro. I had never descale, it and then after seeing your video, I have never flushed it either.. So I had to flush twice and then descaled it twice which took me a lot of time.. Anyway, your video was great. Thank you so much!!
Hey Mark ! Thanks so much for the video. I also agree with others that there are some wrong steps in your process. Would you consider to un-list this one and provide a re-upload of your video with some minor editing so you could ensure that people searching in UA-cam and and on the same time they will speed watch your "HowTo" (without investing time to also read the comments) won't follow the same steps. Cheers
How come when I press and hold the power button and the double cup my machine doesn’t go to descale mode . ? My clean me and hot water steam light don’t light up. Can you help me. ?
When I flush my espresso machine, water comes out of the portafilter (in the same way espresso comes out). In your video, it would have filled the measuring cup in just a few minutes. Yours doesn’t have water come out. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? I put the single insert and the tablet in…
Does it matter which one cup filter you use for the flush cycle? I have tried this and my machine just sprays water through the portafilter all over the machine and I can’t figure out why. Breville support has been no help
I don't believe I used any portafilter for the flush cycle. If I recall, the portafilter is only used during the cleaning cycle - with the cleaning tablet and the rubber stopper.
@@MarkFauntleroy whatever the first step is what I’m referring too. In the video it is labeled as “flushing” but you use the cleaning tablet and run the “flush” cycle. So for that part, you insert the one cup filter into the portafilter, does it matter which of the one cup size filters you use? Thanks for the video btw, improved upon the vague manual description
@@TheNbrownbball08 I had a similar issue, where the machine sprays water through the portafilter, when i tried to flush it (with the black stopper and cleaning tablet). Did you figure out what was wrong?
You should NOT leave the filter. Remove the filter first. I forgot to do that in my video. So, I had to throw away that filter and install a new one after descaling and flushing.
The machine will let you know with an indicator on the LCD screen. The frequency of needing to descale depends on the hardness of your water. More minerals in your water (harder) will require more frequent descaling. I've had our machine for about 9 months and had to descale twice so far.
No hose. The machine flushes into the drip tray. So, leave the drip tray installed (I forgot to do that at first) and let the machine flush into the drip tray. Then, for the descaling cycles I recommend using a large pitcher.
Redo this video lol. 2:18 you took too long to click "Flush" so it reset back to the normal menu and when you clicked the single shot button, it did a single shot, not the Flush cycle. And more importantly, you have the drip tray out and a cup under the portafilter. Sure, you corrected yourself AFTER, but I bet some people followed it and paused before you did, and made a mess.
Thumbs down. It's not advisable to leave the water filter in place when de-scaling. The filter would remove most of the descaling solution and thus defeating the purpose.
Haha...... editing kinda funky... you need driptray, next shot... no tray... select flush... does not select flush but just single pull. But, all in all useful video.

Yes, don’t forget to remove the filter before descaling, otherwise you waste it and have to put a new one in 😀 thanks for the video
Unless you time it at the right time to replace when you need to flush and descale!
You don’t normally replace the water filter as often as cleaning is required
How often is the machine cleaned? Thanks

You left out a really important step: remove the water filter before putting descale in tank.
What is water filter??
You don't have to..
Just at the end put a new one in.
@@Wilwilani hell no. all of that rinsing he did... it was still holding the descaler in the filter.

You left out which of the single shot basket to use, single hole or muli holes basket?
My machine after the first cycle kept saying it needed more water is this right should I have put more water in it I did fill it to the descale level
This video made me reconsider my decision to buy an espresso machine
You'll regret not buying one!
The milk foaming can could be used for these descale runs. Drip tray can stay in place.
Need to remove filter before de scale

Your kitty meowing in the video had me confused, had to check if it was my cat! 😅

Rubber stopper disc?
Flushing mine threw water down the back too. I notice you don't have your tray down there
Forget to remove the filter before descaling. Is that how you recycle the descaling water from the Machine.. ?

I was waiting for the mess that was about to happen when you flushed it, but you edited the video 🤣
The most important part you skipped was how to get to flush setting.

Remove the filter first. Not everyone uses that bottle of solution, so "half a bottle" isn't a useful unit. Looks like that would be about 4oz.
Way too diluted solution of the citric acid / Sulfamic acid pre-mix. It probably did next to nothing.
Chop chop.
