Excellent friend. Congratulations on historical accuracy in weapons and uniforms. The part with the German veteran was spectacular. Continue keeping alive the history and honoring the men who fought in the war. Greetings from Brazil.
Having observed and interacted with the reenacting community over the years, you'd be surprised how many of these "idiots" are veterans of military service and/or overseas tours or who have family in the military. Sure there are some tubbies out there, but as a matter of caution, don't be so quick to generalize others nor to appraise yourself; you're not the only one to have served and sacrificed, two things that don't need to have taken the oath, or seen the frontlines, in order to count.
I would love to take part in one of these reenactments one day. Starting on putting together a Wehrmacht uniform :D It will be historically accurate of course
How does someone get into something like this? Is it only in Illinois? Also, that old man, he fought for the Germans in WW2? Awesome. Did he have any stories to tell?
Its pretty easy to get in, even in europe. I dont know how cummon they are in the U.S but here in europe we have many of those, most of them are on the dates the real battles happend (like this december its the battle of the bulge) the only realy difficult part in all of this is the uniform since some parts are hard to get and others are realy expensive.
Nathan Pittman Western Part of Germany ^^ but if you come to europe you have to visit the great big citiys and capitals, not the small parts of countrys :p also I brought an ushanka home from a trip to moscow, nice winter caps haha
How do i get into this. I have a 1985 Dnepr MT-16, A 1937 Zundapp K500, and a 1938 KS500 Zundapp. Send me a link. My 37 was an SS bike. I am restoring it to it's original SS camo.
or I could take the music out and you can listen to the chattering crowd and narrator--this is a public reenactment and the music I add drowns out many of these sounds and saves me further headaches. In fact, the entire first minute of this video is not original audio--no way was a crowd of thousands going to be that quiet. Editing these reenactments is far more complicated than you think and the music saves these videos (as well as giving added life to my images).
I think you need to do the next one in the style of your '2011' video. Having the historical voice clips in the background was rather eerie overall and added to the experience of watching it.
What kind of safety measures are in place when using heavy vehicles in reenactments, like tanks? In case someone gets run over? I mean those Hetzers were going FAST, and the driver has barely any downward sight.
Jeremy Rodriguez i read up on this, usually the director or who is in charge, will hand out cards deciding your fate. usually it is up to the person when they die as long as its consistent with the battle. other times i heard they have people that signal you when you die.
MstarVblogz Alot of it is the honor system. Like you hear a gun shot look where it came from and see a weapon pointed at you and you take the hit. Although some people dont always like to do this and that can turn some of the battles into giant cluster f***s and take the fun out.
Tough3911 Its probaby different depending on the reenactment your in. I would love to do one of these sometime. I love World War 2, best war to remember :)
I would really like it if they showed the Germans actually winning in re-enacments for once, as I dont think I have ever seen it, but still was a great video good sir :D
When I think about it might be illegal for this use, but do they use Simunition, it would make it easier to tell whos dead and make it far more competitive, though at the same time making sure the Victor stays the same
They fire blanks, it's not to be competitive. Before the battle even starts they tell every person what they do when and where. They wouldn't use simunition in case one hit an audience member.
Wow Great Job! You have a lot of talent and are well on your way to filming and directing if you want to go that route. Thanks for this well made video. :)
Where do you get those German tanks or self-propelled guns? (I'm not sure what those armored vehicles should be classified as, particularly the one I think is a tank destroyer which I think the Swiss used after the war.)
It's all privately funded by each re-enactor him/herself. Every uniform, weapon, piece of blank ammo, vehicles are all bought and paid for by individuals. It can be a pretty expensive hobby.
You are VERY correct. The field just isn't all that big and to have a historically accurate battle, we'd need several square miles and some artillery / air cover. As stated before, it's just for show. Before and after the battles, visitors can get "up close and personal" and interact with the re-enactors and check out the equipment and vehicles. It's quite an event.
Justin, I saw you videoing this down low near the grass. I was near you up higher with my camera. So have the same battle video at a differnent angle. (See the Heinz Thiel UA-cam Channel) I go video inside the US M3 Tank, not published, interesting you got inside the Hetzer. We need to cover these events with multi-cameras at different angles... The interesing part would be combining them at some time into a single video. Great Job ... Well Done Heinz Thiel
The Pak is outstanding! Too bad about the paint job, but Im sure there wasn't too much original paint left anyway. Who was the FJ Veteran if you don't mind me asking?
Looks like there were some über rich dudes in Rockford who really wanted to do an authentic reenactment. Luckily, this shit is über awesome! Are the guns your using blank firing? Or did you edit that in later?
There are many units on the field. The unit with the Hetzer is 2nd Panzer Division. There are forces of 709 Infantrie, 5th kom. GD, 5th SS Wiking, and many smaller groups
Love it!! I am a lot younger than most reenact its ( u16 ) and would love to do this kind of stuff soon. Anybody got any links to groups (south west uk) that would accept me to do this kind of thing or websites with FULL equipment. Thanks in advance. Also thanks for uploading the video love the way the music makes it better. Thanks.
why would people be pissed over a reenactment? I would just be happy to see one regardless of who won. I would be thrilled with seeing all the equipment they used on both sides.
Yes, they fire blanks. Pellets are not allowed WHAT SO EVER. People can get hurt. And people will aim at a person and fire, usually the enemy assumes its for him and he collapses. I think, not too sure though.
Quincy Smith There is a vartiation with airsoft guns, but thats lame since most of the people equip lacks accuracy and they just do it for the lolz. If you are in an event where people use guns with blanks some times its realy obvius if you are hit or not, the other times you just decide if you got hit or not by yourself (unless it was realy obvius that you got hit. Also in most battles there is a minimum distance of 5m to fire a weapon at a person and hand to hand combat/bajonets and spades are forbiden
***** If the battle goes on for a long time staying at the same place youl most likely get draged away by a medic or something, but im not very shure about that since the most i participated in had been highly mobile over some distance so that the guys beeing shot in the first part can just get up and watch the rest of the battle or rejoin later on as some kind of reeinforcements.
How do they know when to lay down when being shot, have they been given a time that they shall die or do the guns fire small projectiles such as soft plastic balls?
It's history! People remembering history, and what they fought for :) If we completely forgot battles like this, they are just doomed to repeat themselves.
I like how this one actually makes the United States take some losses instead of doing an overpowered Allies FTW video.

4:55 Lmao, that guy's fake surrender.
1:58 in my opinion the most epic part
I agree I felt like I was watching the real thing.
Reenactments are cool to watch in the person, it's like you time traveled.
I got so hyped when the Hetzer rolled out.
Yeah it is badass it is sad a panther tank can't do that in this

Great video!!!! Love the music and editing..
Very nice video. Probably the best reenactment video I've ever seen
I saw this when it was posted and now for the second time. It's really good and touching if you can believe that.

A lot of uniform parts you're not allowed to have due to your strict laws, right?
I've always wanted to go to Europe, where do you live
I'm getting a soviet ushanka that should come in this week

How do you know if you're dead in these reenactments?
I've been wondering that also. My guess is that its already decided of whos going to win. So probably die when ever they want I think.

Thanks. I can see some differences now that I look at the guns.
Based on the annotation at 0:39, did you meet Arno or did someone tell you about him? @thetruekingofnorway

what bullets they use

Oh thanks, only now that I know, the peak must be shortened in order to make the landing more safety.
The veteran's name is Arno Streit of Princeton Illinois. I'm his grandnephew, so I know a lot about him
why would people be pissed over a reenactment? I would just be happy to see one regardless of who won. I would be thrilled with seeing all the equipment they used on both sides.
How do they determine who dies?
If I had the money and time to go out to one I would but I have no idea about when they go on or where they take place.
Look in your area to join a group
Curious, are they firing blanks or some sort of pellet? Along with this, how do they tell who and what is hit?
Yes, they fire blanks. Pellets are not allowed WHAT SO EVER. People can get hurt. And people will aim at a person and fire, usually the enemy assumes its for him and he collapses. I think, not too sure though.
Like if you're standing and an enemy does a rapid fire with lets say a machine gun, of course you would collapse.

Well Id rather hear the awesome sounds of the guns! The music covers it up.
0:43 is that old chap a ww2 vetren?
Halo mannen If I remember, I think he was a German Paratrooper. not certain, though.
What song is this I love it
How do they know when to lay down when being shot, have they been given a time that they shall die or do the guns fire small projectiles such as soft plastic balls?
No nothing comes out the gun sometimes they have a choice on who dies but really it’s if you see a muzzle flash
Something I have never understood, is for reenactments what are they shooting? Because I see shells and what not.
Blanks
5:09 why are the panzer crews wearing infantry unifroms? Farb!
the tank destroyer units didn't have the black uniforms. they had the olive green.
Sweet video......
Are those blanks that are being fired
How did u do it paint
bellissimo video !!!!!
Are they firing blanks or pellets?
Blanks
In reenactments is it okay to shoot directly at somebody?
Yes but not in their face or near by
How do the sound of the shot?
Only one thing i hate about reenacting. The Battles that are reenacted are always battles won by the allies as if 1939-1940-1941-1942 never existed.
Very nice!
Where do I sign up!?
It's history! People remembering history, and what they fought for :) If we completely forgot battles like this, they are just doomed to repeat themselves.
Also what were they using to fire ?
BBFDyllanBBF blanks
they have 2 battles over the weekend. once side wins one day and the other side wins the next day.
can someone tell me what german paras are doing with a pack 40?
When is this held, on what day?
This one is held in Rockford, Illinois on the 23-25 of September this year.
So, they're shooting blanks, but how do you know when you have been hit (and must fall over to simulate dieing?)
Muzzle flash and other ways but they do sometimes choice who does
