Knife Мaking. Making a Japanese Knife.

- In this video, I'll show you how to make a Japanese knife - Kiritsuke from x12mf steel.
Steel X12MF was created in the 30s of the last century as a tool alloy for cold deformation. This material remains in demand today. Outstanding wear resistance characteristics allow the raw material to be used in mass as well as serial production.
Unfortunately, I do not have the opportunity to forge a knife, and therefore I use a blank for a knife made of x12mf steel. With the help of a grinder I form the outline of a knife. To harden a knife, I heat it up to 1100 degrees and immerse it after heating it in oil. and afterwards I put it in to oven for 2 hours at a temperature of 200 degrees.
To make the handle of the knife, I use the Japanese traditional technique wa handle. The principle is to fix the knife handle with a dowel.
I am not a Japanese knife expert because it takes years of practice to make. If you have any comments I will be glad to hear if you are really a specialist in the manufacture of Japanese knives. But I'm trying for you. Happy viewing.
Kudos to the Master! Yes, indeed. You truly did show steps in this video, which take knife making to another level. I really enjoyed all the steps which eventually led up to a "work of art". I like the simple forge. Seems to work its magic. Can't wait to see what comes next. Thanks.
The amount of intricacy and care that goes into making this... You could've had such an easier time by even skipping a few steps and going cheap on some of the parts, but you took the time to give every part your 100% effort. This is truly exceptional and you are an absolute master at your art.
Thanks for watching. 👍👍👍

That “tube” insert you made for the handle 🫡 craftsmanship at its finest
That honestly turned out amazing. Using that threading die to reduce the diameter of the wood you used as a tapered bush was genius. Incredible work 👏
Thanks for watching 👍👍👍
Agreed, that was my first time ever seeing that done. Impressed it worked so well.
No epoxy for the blade in the handle _(just being hammered in)_ . Is that to be able to swap the handle if a _replacement_ should ever be necessary? *Great job*
That's my favourite Diy hobbyist traditional living products.well to say i used something like this type...in All sizes sized. You know if you have working in a work Shop and due to weather you don't have interference from anyone you are the unwanted person then you improved versions are out of the hiding of the mind of yours.. good style projects of yours
Do you know how amazing it is to see craftsmen of other crafts, working and crossing boundaries of say woodworking to metalworking and so on I used to only mess with making knives now I make woodworking things knives Blacksmithing gunsmithing so on, and so forth it’s just amazing to me
That was outstanding in all respects! That handle is one of the classiest I’ve seen! Great craftsmanship 👍👏🙏
VERY NICE JOB... JAPANESE KNIVES ARE A PASSION
Thanks for watching
Master craftsman. 👏👏
Just amazing! Thx for sharing your skills
Beautiful, well done. Darlington, South Carolina USA

Omg that is gorgeous! I need one for my cooking prep!
You just can’t make anything simple! Intricate artwork 🇺🇾❤️🇺🇦
Thanks for watching. 😄👍👍👍
I have wanted to make Japanese style knives for quite some time, cutting the Wa slot is what has stopped me. The dowel technique is absolutely brilliant! Thank you for sharing your technique, it is very inspiring. Now I'm off to create...
STUNNING.
For a "I am not a Japanese knife expert" you sure did a helluva good job. You guys are super talented and I always enjoy every one of your videos. Wishing you all of the best and a swift end to the conflict in your homeland.
Thank you for watching and for your support.
Foarte bine lucrat
Magnifique travail, comme d'habitude
Beautiful knife,I would love to have one like this. Thank you.
You are an artist
infornative, thanks

Huge thumbs up!
work of art...
nou thats amazing, greats skills, so much details & passion ;-)
Amazing. Seeing the blade width and material used, I would love to see the balance and weight of the knife.
Masking tape and super glue to attach a filler board... exactly the solution I needed a couple days ago when trying to plane down below half an inch. Used a belt sander then, but now I know another way.
Excellent job dude!
it's a great job well done 👏👏👏
Thanks for watching

Stunning 👏
Beautiful
Very nice🤩
stunning
wow just awesome
Thanks for watching.
what steel did you use???
That heat treat 😢 and you lost me at the dowel in the die
Magnificent!
Superb…😎
Thanks for watching.
The most beautiful knife I’ve ever seen. Nothing else to say. I’d pay 2-3k for that.
It’s a gorgeous knife. If you’re ever wanting to buy a quality Japanese knife there are a ton available online from generational knife makers who charge a lot less than that
Bravo!
Thanks for watching.
I enjoyed watching this very much. After all was done, and in your hands, it seemed to me that the handle appeared heavier than the blade, and so the balance would be off, i could be wrong I am not a knife maker, but i have lots of well balanced japanese knives.
Wow, what an amazing knife! What’s your experience with it so far? Did it make its way into your daily cooking?
I have already looking at yours
creation and l admire your skill
so great to make this melee
weapon. Where is that from skill?
What a work of art! How do you ever put a price on something like that.?
Masterpiece
Hi
Please tell me whats the brand of your belt grinder. It looks like a realy good design.
Beautiful art work. I love it.
What kind of woods are used ?
Thanks for sharings
15 minutes of sanding...
Hermoso!!!!
can tell you dont prepare food with your knife. a thin profile is very difficult to hold & transfer food, that is why all real chef knives has broad blades. anyway your knife making skill is very good, love to see your videos.
Is this a "For show only" knife or can you use it in a daily kitchen?
I once built an ikea shelf once.......
stellar knife making skills
dangerous tomato cutting skills
Yooooo did anyone else’s buttholes pucker @6:45 when he just left that strip of wood to hang out between his blade and fence…? Acting like that thing doesn’t want to go clear through your gut C’MON MAN!!
Seriously. And pulling the wood back mid-cut before that 😬
Top.👍
really great video. did you put your mark on the blade?
Excellent job.....beautiful knife.....PRICE ?....I want one of them.....
You can make knifes of flat bars as long as you cut pre hardened bars with overheating angle grinder.
This man didn't use pre-hardened steel so it's worth to watch :)
Ps: I don't like the quenching process, at time I saw it first time I didn't focus it well enought, but the temperatures were highly uneven.
@@kniferewiewscool2646Well, after the 5 months I don't think I like the quench.
I'm not sure if I focused the quenching process well enough.
Don't know much about the steel and temperature colours so I won't say there was any " too " hot or cold part but but definitely there were differences in temperature.
The differeces in temperature don't seem to be highly uneven.
But even in the light of the sun... It shouldn't look like this.
you should put ur signature on this
Fantastic artistry. Do you sell any of your knives??
Sehr schönes Messer 👍
Wo hast du Schablone her?
super
But….how do you get the red paint off of the magnets. Thats my only question. :)
Where did you get the metal sheet for doing the blade?
sir what type of steel used to making knife
I suppose putting somewhat round timber through a Tap die would shred it down to the Core Diameter
