Stark: "I'm so scared. I don't know why the dragon hasn't attacked in three years!" Dragon (listening to Stark casually demolishing a cliff every night for training): "Bro, I ain't crazy enough to mess with that guy."
Villagers: "Such a brave hero, standing tall against a dragon!" Stark: "Oh no, a monster, I can't move!" Dragon: "Oh no, a monster, stay away!" The scene just gets funnier as it unfolds.
Himmel's secret apprentice is Frieren. It's so secret, neither of them knew it. But Frieren learned so many things from Himmel, and she's learning more from him along the way.
Yeah. I think the secret of this show is that, by the time Frieren gets the chance to speak to Himmel, she'll realise that she no longer needs to. She really did know him all along.
@@DrakeAurum she no longer needs to, but the goal is that it must become clear to herself that 'she wants to talk to Himmel'. No longer a need, but a want, not a 'I want to talk to him so I can know him more', but a 'I want to talk to him so I can spend my time with him.'
Fun fact. The dragon was worked on by SIX separate animators for Stark's fight, each with their own distinct style. Their harmony in creation was so great you can't even tell.
I always used to think being brave was not having fear, it’s actually quite the opposite in this episode. Being afraid and yet still having the heart to follow through is true bravery, l think.
It is. If you feel no fear, you are either naive or have no situational awareness. A stupid idiot would run open eyed in his death if he had no dangersense. Overcoming risks where you know the situation could end bad for you, but you still do it for good is real bravery. Like the guy in Taiwan that stoped the knife attack...
That dragon wanted nothing to do with stark 😂 it flew away from him, then avoided his general vicinity.. twitched when he walked over, and then ranged fire/sweeping attacks in an attempt to keep him at distance 😂
Eisen and his race don't have infinite lives like elf but they still have longer lives than humans. And even tho eisen didn't look like he aged at all after 50 years and reuniting with frieren, but from the flashback stark had of his childhood with eisen you can see eisen's hands getting weaker and more frail from age Ps: stark was right the ice scream special was clearly smaller, even in the flash back stark's ice cream was much larger than the one eisen had
Yeah, napkin math says Himmel lived to late 70s or early 80s, Heiter had a long life of 100 or a bit more, and dwarves live about twice as long as humans, so even Eisen is an old man at this point, though we don't know exactly how old.
Now the time has come that our Warrior shine! Stark's teacher, Eisen, is unimaginably strong. How strong? He got hit by a dragon's tail and was launched an incredible distance and when he hit the ground it left a crater. He was completely unharmed. Eisen's only reaction was basically "Dragons are pretty strong". And Eisen finds Stark's strength the be terrifying. A warrior without fear is just a man looking for a place to die. I love Eisens VA, this voice-lines are incredible well done, you hear the fear, the proud and can feel the sentence he says. Being a decent bluffer but before, one hitting a dragon in exact 30 seconds. This with the spell in the grimoire that lay to the dragon, i believe it has a reason why Heiter has so a large Underwear when they sun bathing in Episode 2 xD Those subtle animations like fern sitting to stark or talking to him how is he normal just awesome well done. Fern can relate to stark, she know well how important that is.
What's neat is that allowing Frieren and her party through the checkpoint does have all kinds of enormous consequences for the people in the North. I imagine that Castellan hearing the stories of what Frieren and company accomplish and smiling as he thinks about his role in making it happen.
I think himmel said ,he lived his life all alone. Waiting for Frieren for the last 50 years as she promised . Meantime he helped people left and right . there is a reason , Demons didnt appear till he was alive.
Hello!!I'm Japanese!! It makes me so happy to see people in Englishspeaking countries enjoying Japanese animation. I hope they can discover wonderful works and have ar with them!
The characters names are German words (like Frieren means freezing, Himmel meaning sky/ heaven and Fern means far). Stark's name means strong and Eisen's name means iron. Stark is quite literally stronger than iron, and that tells you all you need to know for how powerful he is.
"I hope he has at least ten" In my opinion, Eisen will be dead by the time they arrive at Ende, I mean it would be weird if Frieren got to see Himmel, Fern saw Heiter but Stark just saw nobody and came back to tell his story to his master. If Aureole is real and if the other two do get to see the departed, then Stark will see Eisen there too.
Thinking about it, Stark is really built differently. A girl his age just saw his junk and mocked how small it is, and in that same scene he's like "Yeah let's travel together!" Way more impressive than killing a dragon solo imo to shrug that off so easily.🤔
Stark is the very definition of not knowing his own strength. I mean, how powerful do you have to be to not only solo an entire dragon, but to do so on accident?
Funny how many people miss what the bartender was doing, we as viewers clearly saw the jumbo special being massive when he was a kid, and now it's a lot smaller, the bartender is being a cheapskate, less for the same price, all while gaslighting Stark with "ah, the passage of time"
Frieren thought she had an easy two years in a town to read grimoires safe and secure with a nice bed, and here she is getting hustled out the gate in a hurry. Back on the road north, sleeping on the ground between villages and she knows Fern won't let her stop for long anywhere they find a village.
I like how they threw the kitchen sink at the animation budget for the dragon fight. There's several of these scenes in this anime. They're all chef's kiss level artwork.
And this is how you write cowardly character. You don't make him stupid, acting only because of the consequences. You give him resolve and desire to act upon the consequence.
12:13 well his name is the german word for strong, so there is no surprise there XD Love your reactions ❤Found you with one piece and jjk, two animes i adore espacilly one piece since i grew up with it.
So you fell for that bartender's trick, too? About how the JumboBerry Special seems smaller because Stark grew up? Don't buy it. It's inflation, that's why!
Stark slowly chipping that cliff could even be considered like a marking of sort for other predators, this is my territory, like bears clawing/biting trees, so another sign for the dragon to keep away.
3:35 that shot of frieren was so beautiful i considered her to be my waifu but I stopped because a Himmel flashback popped in my head and i don’t wanna make Himmel mad in heaven
Be careful with reading the titles on this anime :). It's not super spoilerish, but definitely gives upcoming hints to what's going to happen on the episode. One particular title is 100% a spoiler in one of the later episodes.
Why do people always think that this and that are spoilery when they still don't have context and you already watched them so you already know what it was pointing out. Same at intros, y'all stopping reactors to see them, not knowing that YOU are giving them clues by saying it had hints on them. 😅 Just let them react NORMALLY. Those will go over their head until they realized it, as what they are meant to be, unfolding naturally.
@@EtopiaCA I think you misunderstand Etopia. I was talking to Haylo and Kiss =). Each Frieren episode has an associated title to it and sometimes it gives subtle hints to what is going to happen in the episode. Two or three of the later episodes clearly do. No one ever deserves to be spoiled though :).
Hey! I'm from Brazil and I love this channel. I'd like to share a special series recommendation: Invisible City (on Netflix). I'm sure you guys will love it!
you have the wrong idea of the group. frieren represents himmel because she was inspired by him. fern has the part of frieren because she was trained by her. stark for eisen. so we need someone who will take the part of heiter.
This show is weird. Based on how little is happening, it should bore me, but it's posing interesting philosophical questions about the meaning and value of life and time, the relationships between the characters are so wholesome they really draw you in despite the slow pacing and it makes me wonder where this whole thing is going. An unexpectedly enjoyable experience.
It's already on their patreon. If I had to guess it will be aired on YT after Frieren S1 ends. Or maybe they will make it patreon exclusive. Time will tell...

Stark: "Oh no, a monster, I can't move!"

The dragon cutting the buildings like vegetables is basically like a cat hissing in front of a much bigger dog and running away.
@@vianneyb.8776Yep absolutely!
Frieren pats Stark on the back as Eisen used to do, but pets Fern on the head, as Heiter did.
02:00 That's Fern clinging to the tree to avoid having to face the dragon again, and Frieren attempting to pull her away from the tree.
She doesn't want to play tag 😂
What's most hilarious, is that Fern has this neutral face, instead of a scared or pouting one, so she comes across as a stubborn husky in this moment.
@@DrakeAurum Damn, that sounds so true... But by now it's a little more than just getting to know Himmel.
it fits too, Frieren becomes the leader of the party in place of Himmel, Fern = Frieren, Stark = Eisen, Sein = Heiter
@@DrakeAurum she no longer needs to, but the goal is that it must become clear to herself that 'she wants to talk to Himmel'. No longer a need, but a want, not a 'I want to talk to him so I can know him more', but a 'I want to talk to him so I can spend my time with him.'

Frieren learned his role as party leader from Himmel.

"Is that supposed to stretch?"
XD. No. Fern did not wanna fight the big scary dragon again.

hahaha they've seen the gum gum fruit too many times 😆
I always used to think being brave was not having fear, it’s actually quite the opposite in this episode. Being afraid and yet still having the heart to follow through is true bravery, l think.
I think it was said best in Game of Thrones "The only time a man can be brave is when he is afraid"
Yes, bravery is the ability to overcome your fear.
I believe the correct term you're looking for is courage.
To keep moving even when afraid, to do something even in fear, is I believe called COURAGE.
one can't be brave if there is nothing to fear...
the jumbo berry was clearly smaller! stand your ground stark!
Inflation is real 😂
The one who said it only seemed smaller was the one selling it. Never trust the one selling it.
That dragon wanted nothing to do with stark 😂 it flew away from him, then avoided his general vicinity.. twitched when he walked over, and then ranged fire/sweeping attacks in an attempt to keep him at distance 😂
What eisen sensed from stark is his potential, stark still needs more expirience in battles to reach that potential,
Or maybe he just put his name into a translator and figured that by the rules of this world in regards to naming conventions, he has to be good. :V
I literally searched up just last night “reactions to Frieren” and binged on your reactions! And am glad you posted today! 😊
Fern didn't have to violate our boy Stark like that 😂😂

Ps: stark was right the ice scream special was clearly smaller, even in the flash back stark's ice cream was much larger than the one eisen had
Eisen also didn't have wrinkles around his eyes at the end of the ten-year adventure. 50 years changed that.
Yeah, napkin math says Himmel lived to late 70s or early 80s, Heiter had a long life of 100 or a bit more, and dwarves live about twice as long as humans, so even Eisen is an old man at this point, though we don't know exactly how old.

Stark is such a wholesome character. Thanks for reacting!

Now that the party has come together, you must always remember the following mantra:

The music goes too hard in this anime. Especially the folk music for battle scenes! Too hype 😂
