    I own both. I would say in terms of writing quality they’re identical. But the Diamond does have a more premium look and feel to it.

    For me, I like both the Eco and Diamond 580 for different reasons and different purposes. But mostly, I think the Diamond 580 Smoke and White rose gold as well as the Eco in the same trims, are probably the only TWSBIs I would enjoy using. I like that the Diamond 580 looks extremely slick and modern, while the Eco has a more vintage retro look to it that is very charming. For the Ecos, only some colors work, but the smoke and white rose gold are the best imo xD but I think all colors look fairly great in the Diamonds. Also I wonder if that bleeding is due to the paper? XD Not sure if you're using a coated FP paper, and Pilot inks are super wet!

      Of course I am using cheap paper! Hahaha! I usually write grocery lists, on the back of envelopes, etc. so I am always checking to see how pens fare on regular paper. The M nib, of course, will drop more ink and cause feathering. It did very well on the Rhodia paper though!
      Good point about the Pilot inks - I think I needed to mention that! :)
      I have seen the white with the rose gold and that pen is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! I think your conclusion is correct: the pens have a very different look to them. I have to say that in the beginning of my FP journey, I was not a big fan of the way they look - they are almost "clunky" looking. However, due to reliability and the pen performing week after week, sometimes just sitting on my desk or in my purse for days without writing and then you can uncap and write without a hard start-- that is something to be said at the $30 price point! I also love that you can see the ink levels in demonstrators. That is so helpful when traveling and making sure you have lots of ink to get you through note-taking during a conference.
      The Diamond 580 looks much better to me than the ECO. I think the finishes and the diamond faceting actually enhance the pen.
      How long have you had your 580 and has it performed consistently? Will you please share some of your thoughts on how they write? Nib sizes, etc.?
      I would love to hear!

      @@KitchenCounterCrafts all my ecos and 580 write without any hard starts even months after not writing with them! They're just that good and reliable. I have 2 580 mediums, 1 eco medium, 1 580 stub, 1 eco stub, and 1 eco broad. I like my eco stub more, it just seems more of a reliable stub. Overall I enjoy my ecos more but you cannot swap out the nib units in the ecos but you can with the diamond 580s. The thing is...a nib unit costs the same as an eco haha! So it's... fairly equivalent at that point to just get another eco in another finish and nib size of your thinking of buying a 580 nib unit. I don't use non shimmer inks in my twsbis because I like to make use of that lovely large demonstrator barrel to see the beautiful shimmer inks. So when I do use regular inks with my twsbis.. they feel a bit too bland for me. But if you were to use regular inks, the twsbis work really well with them. :) I think they're pretty good with shimmers since you can prime the feed easily with that easy to access piston knob.

      @@KenchanKrafts thank you sooooo much for sharing your experience!!! I didn’t realize that you could swap out the nib unit- you’re right, it doesn’t make sense to do that if you could just buy an Eco for that price!⁉️I have been using shimmer inks in mine as well and have really abused my Eco pens by forgetting about them. They still work well with shimmers sitting in there for a week or two! That was surprising to me!
      It’s mesmerizing to watch the shimmering ink in that huge barrel.
      I think I like that the best about them!
      I also love my stub nib Eco (I only have 1) & would be tempted to get another because I use it so often!

      @KitchenCounterCrafts  Місяць тому

      @@Tatokala good question! The ECO is definitely lighter but not by much. They’re fairly similar in size, diameter and length. Goulet has great specs on each. Might be helpful to see the numbers for comparison?

    Not a fan of TWSBI pens at all. Mainly because of the nibs/feeds. I have tried a few TWSBIs before. I even owned two before giving them away to somebody. The nibs are way too stiff. And most of them, in my sorry experience, seem to dry out after a page of writing. It always starts off nicely wet, quickly begins to progressively get drier, and even stop writing. Annoying, to say the least. I have owned and used better pens at this price range.
    Of the two you showed here, I’ll pick the Diamond 580, because the overall design aesthetics are a lot nicer: the cap and clip, section and mostly really the lovely (diamond) faceted barrel. I can’t stand the Eco. The one TWSBI I was curious and keen on was the piston-filling Draco model. But that cost $150 or more. Alas, the same nib.

    • @KitchenCounterCrafts
      @KitchenCounterCrafts  Рік тому +2

      Wow... really? Mine have only gone dry after I abused them by putting in shimmer ink and letting that ink sit there for days on end. The shimmer particles got settled into the feed and then I had to "push" ink through to get the thing going. BUT that was totally my fault!
      Even with shimmers, they do well for me.
      I do agree with you on the extremely stiff nibs - there is no "give' at all! Some people have said that in the EFs, it's like writing with a nail!
      My husband loved TWSBIs at the beginning of collecting and then he quickly gave them to me and to our kids for writing because he "graduated" to other pens.
      I think he would agree with you.
      So which pens would you recommend for those starting the hobby that are around the $30-50 range?

      @@KitchenCounterCrafts …Yea, just my uniquely awful luck, perhaps. I really wanted to like Twsbis, but the nibs and writing experience was such a let-down, every time. The Diamond Mini was so cute and I would have even kept it if it had not written so disappointingly.
      The $30-$50 price range is kind of out of my area of expertise. However, I reckon that from the top off my head, I’d recommend pens like the Platinum Plaisir, Platinum Balance, Pilot Prera, Pelikan Stolla III, Lamy Vista, Diplomat Traveler, Sheaffer No Nonsense (vintage pen), F-C Loom, and others whose names escape me now. Also, note that I’m considering the ‘street’ price of the afore-mentioned pens - not MSRP, eBay, Amazon prices etc…though the Sheaffer pen can only be found on eBay.
      For TWSBI fans who are willing to go a little over $100, I’d say the Opus 88 pens are a much better alternative.

      @@tbayless8324 😀😀 Hi, again. Your biting banter only took me aback for just a second, no more. Of course, I know you’re pulling my leg. As you’re welcome to do.
      Truth be told, I never drink or smoke, but I’m keeping all my bewitchingly beautiful and beloved Montegrappas for as long as I live. I’m a sentimental snob, I guess. Lol.
      It’s also true that I’m no longer well qualified to recommend “cheap” pens in the specified price bracket. But refer to the reply I just made to Mona for some of the ‘recs’ I could conjure up on the fly.
      Btw, I admit I do all the YT video viewing and commenting on my iPhone. It is a pain I’ve now gotten used to. 🙂

      I'm so sorry! 😇These are not expensive (especially the ECO) and are ink tanks! You don't have to worry about grabbing one of these since you have a LAMY and are happy with it - it's kind of the same genre. Besides, @sajjadhusain4146 said these are not his favs - so there's that as well! Many collect these for their limited colors (that's how they get you) and for being reliable. That's one of the big reasons I have one in my purse - I don't have to mess with a converter (piston fill) and it holds a ton of ink that I can see.
      Other than that, there are lots of other pens in the similar price range that you can get!
