    I’ve eyed this beauty for a long time. That giant nib is one of a kind. I guess the Emperor might be a bit too large for regular use even with my medium-largish hands. I chose to buy the Pilot Custom Urushi in vermillion instead with a terrific 18k two-tone #30 nib. That is also a large pen, but comfortable enough for me. The Namiki Emperor is urushi lacquer over ebonite - as is my Custom Urushi pen. I do wish the section and feed were also in ebonite in these pens. It’s best to seek to buy these pens direct from Japan at lower prices. In the U.S. these pens are quite outrageously priced; borderline extortionist, really.

      @@sajjadhusain4146 That nib!!! I’ve never seen a working fountain pen like this before! The nib felt smooth but I think that my 823 with the FA nib was just as smooth! I agree with you that the Urushi is a good alternative to getting a larger nib and similar materials. I know that so much of pen collecting is personal preference, style and feel of writing, therefore it can be relatively difficult to discern which pen works best from a video 😁 I wish I could share how the pen felt, quality, and writing experience. I just don’t understand how this pen could be a EDC! 😆 it was gigantic!

    Do you have thoughts on the FA nib in the #10 vs #15 size?

    • @KitchenCounterCrafts
      @KitchenCounterCrafts 8 днів тому

      @@ganainmmtl that’s a great question! I have the smaller nib size in the Namiki falcon and the #15 FA in the 823. It’s actually a big difference! Don’t get me wrong, both write like a dream but the 823 has a great feed and ink capacity that can make the whole writing experience feel better. It’s not something I had thought about when I had my Namiki falcon. It’s super smooth, satisfying bounce and an excellent writer. Then, you have the larger pen, larger feed, larger nib of the 823. In this case, larger is better! The side cuts on the #15 nib give better line variation (still not a true flex) and allows the nib to get the ink needed for the swirls and flourishes of writing. What are your thoughts?

      @@KitchenCounterCrafts I love my FA nib with Diamine Autumn Oak. I need to get the nib tuned tho. There is the smallest hang up on my upward stroke, otherwise can be my daily writer or help with making my bold lettering in my journal. The Vanishing Point Stub is a MUST. So much fun to have a click and go, relatively thin, stub on hand. Also some great feedback with the VP stub that I enjoy. I have Pilot Blue in that, but thinking of switching to Dromgoole’s Exclusive Diamine Bleu Horse. As for the PO, not my cup of tea. The most broad I’ll go is Twsbi Vac Mini 1.1 Stub. Also, the FA pushed to the limit is more than enough for me. I think an Architect or a custom offset italic would be a fun jump on the future. I just got the Sailor Pro Gear “Autumn Sky” M/F and have been loving the 21k nib. Smaller than my 823 #6 nib and a bit stiffer than anticipated, but I am enjoying the pencil like feedback with light and firm pressure. I’m basically sold on wanting a Pro Gear King of Pen <M> for a larger barrel diameter. The Pro Gear Standard I have is almost unusable for me unposted and I like the idea of a larger diameter grip point.

    • @sajjadhusain4146
      @sajjadhusain4146 10 днів тому

      @@KitchenCounterCrafts Hi, again! Well, the highlight of the WA nib is that it is an especially forgiving nib, i.e. it writes at any angle without a issue. That is a useful attribute in a nib even for disciplined writers like myself who always have an adept grip. And who don’t inadvertently constantly rotate their writing angle or have other quirky habits that guarantees an annoying experience with many other nibs. But more importantly, I find the Waverly nib to be especially very smooth and very pleasurable to use - even more than the other smooth Pilot nibs. The only thing is that I find the nib to write finer than I had expected. A few others have said the same. Mike Matteson did a top review on his channel of all the 15 Pilot nibs not very long ago.

    • @KitchenCounterCrafts
      @KitchenCounterCrafts 9 днів тому

      @@sajjadhusain4146 thank you for sharing your experience! I realized my faint rotation with the Lamy 200, but the pilot vanishing point totally helped with keeping a straight grip because of the clip! I found that the Waverly was more like a Fine nib (bordering on Extra Fine). That was surprising as well but makes sense for it to achieve great writing on different angles. My calligraphy habits don’t encourage the steep, high angles as you need to keep the pointed pen at the “correct “ 45 degree angle for achieving the thick and thin lines. I was once inclined towards (get it?😆) getting this nib but I don’t think I’ll be getting it now!

    That's the 51 "Special" aka the cheaper loop style filler, instead of the more expensive cage filler. Still as reliable, I just think the cage filler on the original "51" looks nicer. FYI you can use any non-alkaline ink- the original "51" and "Superchrome" inks were made very very acidic. Alkaline inks are what you want to stay away from- certain Iroshizuku inks, Noodler's Baystate inks, etc- anything that is alkaline is a no-go long term (I'm sure you could get away with using an alkaline iroshizuku if you went through it fast and cleaned the pen out well afterwards)

All of these in great condition, except the Noblesse which has a couple of dents but works fine (no pun intended), for $180. About the TWSBI, I see many very conflicting comments in the community. Many say that the crack for no reason, and it's a massive issue, while others say they have one and they work great. Regardless, I wouldn't get one. I would instead get the Asvine V200. I kinda love it!!! I love my metropolitan- writes well, metal body, consistent performance and looks classy! Feels good in the hand as well. The Prera is a great pen, but I don’t think I would recommend as a beginner. It’s a very nice “extra “ pen, especially with the cool CM nib that makes the handwriting look good. The TWSBI is a great pen ($35) and mine have been fairly used and abused by me throwing them in my purse, bag, taken everywhere. Each pen has its own personality and performance. Which ones do you have?

    • @kempetai2099
      @kempetai2099 Місяць тому

      @KitchenCounterCrafts I'm not a beginner, most of my pens are above $100, mainly use the lamy 2000. I just needed a solid EDC fountain pen that feels really nice to write with and is built to last a lifetime. I don't like disposable things so the kanuno probably isn't it. I heard the eco cracks so probably not TWSBI. I'd prioritize how it feels in the hand how fun is the nib to write with (not scratchy). *reason for being below $50 is so I'm not salty if it gets lost/stolen.

      @KitchenCounterCrafts Місяць тому

      @@kempetai2099 now I get it!!! Well, for my “bottom of the purse “ pen, it’s the Pineider Avatar- no need for a case, since you can run it over with a car and it won’t scratch. Of course, it’s about $100+, so there’s that! For below $50, I think I would recommend metropolitan. OR if you can get your hands on a Faber Castell Loom, my husband uses that as his EDC. @kempetai2099 Місяць тому

      @KitchenCounterCrafts the safari is made of surprisingly durable ABS plastic. I hate resins/plastics for their fragility but Lamy did it right. Their fine isn't right for me, broad is buttery smooth, I've heard bad things about the extra fine but done have it. I heard Japanese nibs are more fine and tend to be consistently the best to write with, specifically Pilot, which is why I have a preference. I'm almost sold on the Prera but still looking around for other options. I dislike that it's plastic, I feel it will eventually crack but it doesn't have the few issues the metropolitan does, such as bad seal, drying out, skipping, etc.
