    My first Fountain Pen !🖋 I got the White one with a Medium side Nib and it looks absolutely stunning when I have a nice bright blue inked up. I also love how The Cap + Piston Knob isn’t completely see-through. Hence all the colors ppl can collect and match up with certain inks, but that’s a whole Nother rabbit hole. The Limé green, black and Cement Grey are ones I’d consider

Thanks for the review it makes me appreciate the TWSBI line, my goal is to eventually get the TWSBY Diamond 580ALR Prussian Blue if I like the Go but maybe in medium instead of extra-fine.

    • @HeldinWrites
      @HeldinWrites  3 роки тому +1

      In general, broader nibs write smoother than finer nibs as they put less pressure on the paper. But I like having a little texture.

    You have such an interesting, but unplaceable accent. I can barely tell that English is not your native language, but there are a few clues, such as your pronunciation of the word pastel, and the expression ‘fairly the same’. You definitely learned English either in the States or from Americans, but that’s all I can tell, other than you said you were in Europe. So my guess would be Scandinavian, or Iceland, perhaps? Your handwriting is European, but I can’t be more specific than that. I’m a bit of an armchair linguist, please don’t take offense. I really appreciated the comparison of nibs-very helpful, thanks!

    • @HeldinWrites
      @HeldinWrites  4 роки тому +5

      Haha no offense taken. I studied linguistics, so I really enjoyed your musings. I'm from the Netherlands actually. I did not learn English from someone from the states, but my fiancee is American and I think talking to him heavily influences my accent. Aside from that, I also teach English so it makes me happy that you say that you can barely tell.
      Thanks for watching!

    • @Oldnose63
      @Oldnose63 4 роки тому +3

      Apart from the channel name Heldin (which means heroine which she is because of starting and running the channel) the green tea and sugar cans gave it away. Even without seeing the words (thee, suiker) you can only find them in Dutch households. But Heldin, you’re not really avaricious ( as Dutch seem to be) spending 13 x 38 euro’s on TWSBI Eco’s and you have so many more beautiful pens.
      @Stephen Smith it really is interesting to see how handwriting is also defined by nations/countries. You think it is just you and your fingers that express your emotions, but there is a lot more heritage to that.
      @Heldin: as a Dutchy why not do an all Dutch ink review?

    • @SuperManning11
      @SuperManning11 4 роки тому +1

      Pieter Boehlee - I was just listening to an interview with Robert Frank about his new book, Under the Influence, about the immense power of social influence on all of us. I suppose handwriting styles are determined and policed by cultural and social influence, with tradition forming the scaffold to which a society attaches its dos and don’ts & it’s basic expectations. A particular style of handwriting could serve as an emblem of sorts designating a particular region or nation-state with a unique distinction. I don’t think it actually worked out that way, but fun to think about. I would imagine this is what we all do to a certain degree as we developed a unique handwriting, but one that is still bound by social expectations for which we are shamed for breaking. My first trip to Europe introduced me the numeral 7 with a line through the center so that it was easily distinguished from the 1. It seemed perfectly reasonable to me, so I quickly adopted the habit. But upon my return to the states, it was seen as pretentious and some people would just refuse to read the numeral if it had a cross through it. Odd creatures we are indeed.

    • @Oldnose63
      @Oldnose63 4 роки тому +2

      Stephen Smith in general taking care of presentation (handwriting, clothes, edc’s whatever) is quite often regarded as pretentious by people of the same group that follow another “fashion” and are not open minded or adaptive. I bet they would have accepted is when you would have been European

    On Eco: Awful pen for its section nubs near nib. Very annoying reminder to write
    horizontally, which is how poor writers write. Edge of section near nib
    must be round and smooth, which Chinese manufacturers could have done,
    if they had any brains (they don't). We are not children that need to be
    reminded to write horizontally for heaven sake. Some write with grip
    close to nib and will hit nubs in this case. Smallish nib makes one want
    to write nearer to the dreaded nubs with Eco. Of course you can grip
    away from nubs, higher up on section, but what good pen maker ever
    forces you to do this? Answer: None.
