I’m not surprised that you received an email with a criticism/correction and you weren’t offended by it or defensive about it. You immediately addressed it and corrected yourself with no drama or attitude. That’s exactly what I would expect of you because you are so thoughtful and rational. We all have these unconscious biases (you only know what you know) and have learning/eye opening moments like this and if we all handled it like you the world would be a better place :). Well done!
You always handle things with honesty, class, and a naturalness that aren't often seen in today's world. You and your family are a joy to see.
It is good to hear your reflections on these sensitive topics. Even though we may be 'clumsy' around such matters, it is still important to have conversations about them. We can still learn so much from others, and being educated by kind and patient viewers allows us to gain insight and grow. You are one of the loveliest and most decent humans I know and I thank you for helping us all understand unconscious bias a little better. Me and White Supremacy is such a powerful book and really opened my eyes. I will be looking up your other recommendations too! x

I love making homemade tomato soup in the summer when all the fresh vegetables are in the garden. I have fond memories of having canned soup as a kid. My mom always made open faced toasted cheese sandwiches with it.

Oh, Ali! You most certainly are a decent human! Don't be too hard on yourself! We are all learning in these times. There's a lot of new things we have to learn, and we will! The most important thing is, that we have a honest wish to learn and do good. As long as the intention is right, it can't be too bad, and none of us here on your vlog doubts your intentions.

Hello, I just wanted to say as many others have, that you really did handle the criticism with such grace. I must admit that I was thinking how I would have handled it and I didn’t think I would have done as well as you. I listened to the audio book based on your video. The author handled all the different type of characters very well. I loved the audio book.

The world would be a better place if we could at least agree what makes for a decent human being, but I can’t imagine anyone who comes here to see you would disagree with this statement - you are one of the best. Hi Ali~I hope Phoebe will be fine. I've reached a point in life where I tend to stress about nearly everything, even visiting my daughter, who I love very much, and lives just next door. My son is always calming me down. My favorite tea is Twinings Lady Grey (decaf), I just love it with a bit of honey. You do so much for your family, and Dan also, you two are great parents, I hope they appreciate your efforts. Good luck at quiz night. XXXX

yesterday I went to the tandarts. I have been having pain in my upper jaw on and off for a year now untill in the last few weeks and it’s now permanently hurting. It’s all due to stress!

We watched Inkheart last night and when the actress Eliza Bennett started talking, I said to my husband, “She sounds exactly like Ali’s daughter Lilia.” It’s interesting to hear different accents from different places.

Hope Phoebe is feeling better. Sometimes we say things with the best of intentions but get them slightly wrong. I'm sure we've all done this from time to time. The Nairn's chocolate oat biscuits look good. I am on a dairy free and wheat/yeast reduction diet and looking for new things to eat. I found plant based 'Cream of Tomato' soup which pleased me.
Ali, your intentions are always coming from your heart, we can see that. Glad everyone is on the up and up xx
I thought about you when I actually got to meet an Arkansas author at an event (Knitty Knatty visited my LYS). Her name is Kathleen Fuller and she has a 4 book series A Maple Falls Romance which includes crochet!! The books are romantic comedies. “Hooked On You” is the first in the series. She has several books based on the Amish as well.

That’s really nice that you reflected on saying “White writer” instead of “Muslim writer. I have an Indian friend who is Muslim and I when I speak about her to other people I tend to say “my Indian friend --“ to explain her exotic name … but maybe it’s racist? I need to find out! On a happier note, your chickens are so adorable! I do love a side eye look from a chicken. Glad Phoebe is feeling better!
I would just say “my friend…”, you don’t need to explain anything about her name :) Think of how she would introduce you - she would just say “my friend Caroline” 😊

Very comforting hearing your very human honesty and desire to learn. My husband and I have been having similar conversations and are both listening to “The Coddling of the American Mind” by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt on Audible. Lots to keep the mind busy!

Do you ever read Dick/Francis books? Mysteries based knowledge horse-racing in someway, but with any merging from diamonds, drugs, race bookies, glassblowing etc etc.

If you haven’t read them already, I found ‘Uncomfortable Conversations With A Black Man’ by Emmanuel Acho and ‘Why I’m No Longer Talking To White People About Race’ by Reni Eddo-Lodge to be really useful. And ‘Don’t Touch My Hair’ by Emma Dabiri - I’d recommend all three of them ☺️💛

What I found interesting was that in that previous video about the books you made the comment about the non Muslim writing about a Muslim but the very next book which I believe was “the remains of the day” which is a book about a English butler written by a Japanese author you said nothing. Not piling on but I did wonder why one mattered over the other. It is fiction after all. 😂I find you, without ever having met you, a perfectly lovely person. No need to apologize.
I find its all getting very silly and very fed up with all this political correctiveness I can tell the way the worlds going and I want to get off We wont dare speak soon
