Black Canyon Brony Express Vs Holiday Express Toy Trains

- An investigation into two inexpensive large scale train sets. The G scale RC Black Canyon Express is compared to a Christmas Holiday Express train. Both train sets cost $49 purchased on the same day in the same store.
Both train sets are impressive, but one seems to be far more impressive than the other!
Be very careful buying these Christmas trains as often they have applied to them the Christmas tax which seems to vanish the day after Christmas. Ho Ho Ho!
I also have mt 5 cents say about Blue Mountain Mystery and the character Luke.

and I also forgot Calling All Engines, thats one my son possibly loves the most because of the D10 factor
thats amazing to hear, talk about opening up a can of worms related to scale, I never knew about G scale being associated with narrow gauge trains
In my thinking he's a perfect comedy item for a railway train show. He would look great running around on a HO / OO layout just for the fun of it.
on minecraft my daughter is now into this game, we have only played online once ant it seemed to be a big battle going on. when she plays she's in creative mode or peaceful
i'll have to admit it's a highly addictive game, and very surprising considering it's simple graphics
“You like ponies in train?”
Words of wisdom....
As I explain in other videos I send these toys to the local Lion's Club charity shop who then turn the toys into money for their charity work, I NEVER return toys back to the shops I buy them from as thats not a fair or honest thing to do.
Also that song Blue Mountain Mystery is mighty catchy...all the little bells and sounds layered in to cast a spell over your brain.
The Holiday Express train music sounds like an ice cream truck.
"There's another DMCA for the channel" - love it!
yes, the days are getting warmer but we have had two very weak summers, loads of rain and that brought the spiders into the house
I was suspecting the OO / HO scale reason for the out of scale G train scale difference, and to be honest I still can't get my head around why there are these two scales on what is basically identical track
Well that's easy, my son rolled the Black Canyon Express in the mud the other day and it looks well weathered..!
On a side note I am hearing that the steam train 3801 will never see the rails again, big problems over money and that dodgy boiler work.
It's very obvious to me rail heritage in Oz is totally busted, no Zig Zag railway and now no 3801...welcome to Oz where old stuff just gets scrapped.
These Cheap RC G scale Trains are nice but what I find that's disappointing is that there's hardly any plastic track switches to go with them.
now I'm scared, we are talking about generations related to Ponies...LOL....this is deep
a train is what makes the christmas tree stand out. It gives the tree animation and interactive entertainment for those who are around it.
I see the K-Mart in Sydney has a huge new supply of the Black Canyon Express, and their stock of Holiday Express trains have sold slowly. I know which one I would buy considering what you get for your money...but for some reason people get sucked into things dressed up for Christmas....the shops are banking on it
Nothing wrong with getting technical, I was told off once for calling a brake van a caboose, now it seems I missed the obvious guard wagon
Christmas is only just around the corner..!
Rainbow Dash may have been a more popular choice, but Pinky Pie has a bit more rail fan attitude I feel
0:01 him: wow look at that pony in that train. Do you like ponies and trains?
Kid: yehh
So cute.
I am 15 years old and still collect trains even the toy ones!
yep...and it looks so good
The Black Canyon Express is a cheaper version plus, it's more recognizable as a toy train. the non-detailing feature is for less dangerous/harmful/swallow able parts fro children. The smaller size is more child friendly and easier for kids to handle rather than a very detailed, and quote "Boring" train that us serious train-buffs like. Any more questions please ask Leo
I think the whole search for the yellow engine is a let down, and it's a tad complex understanding Luke's story related to Victor. Maybe he needs to be a tad older to understand why finding the yellow engine is so important.
The only thing I learned is about Victor and that he's a narrow gauge engine.
I don't mind G scale as long as I'm not spending thousands of dollars buying trains
The aspect I do like and it's all a tad too late in my mind is the scene of the engines telling the stories of silly things they did in the past....now some of this reaches right back to the very first stories. Maybe the franchise today is attempting to re-connect to the classic stories when it was all good.
It was nice for the Narrow gauge engines to have their day in the sun, i wonder if BMQ is the same location as Rusty and the Boulder years on.
eztec also do a Christmas train here in Oz...but it's up around $200, sadly it looks just like the $49 Christmas Express
Yes, at the moment it is 10%, and thats included in the price. So in these $49 trains there is $4.90 in the price which is going to the government to support whoever does not have money and needs assistance
You see here in Oz the welfare system is ripe for the picking
If I buy a $300 LEGO train set there goes $30 to the government, and remember on top of this we pay income tax / business tax / petrol tax and loads of other special taxes, so Oz is a very high paying place for tax.
I actually used to have a Goldlok Toys Holiday Express set (it was a bit different to the one shown in this video). Sadly, age wasn't too kind to it; the music stopped working a little bit after I got it (which might actually be for the better, but it still ran), the passenger car lost a truck and got thrown away as a result, and the rest of the set was later given away, as I wasn't using it anymore.
Also, as for the Holiday Express being a bit too large for G-scale, you could possibly (if you still have it) shorten the axles in order to make it fit on G-scale track.
ooh Time to Grab some Popcorn and watch another fantastic Leokimvideo video.
Nice review, good to see your children enjoying a variety of trains.
Speaking of Luke, I think his prototype is the narrow gauge engine Peter Pan, so I have a feeling if you showed that engine to your son, he'll probably look at the shape and recognise the real engine as Luke.
Just my little theory.
Here is why I think that your $200 train is larger than your $50 train.
In real life I think they're both the same size, BUT, the german train is meant to go on narrow gage track so in order to make the track proportionate, they had to make the train larger.
Back when I used to do model railroads, I had HO scale trains, so I am still trying to wrap my head around how big it is.
The black canyon Express locomotive looks like a g-scale version of the Lionel o-Gauge 4-4-2 locomotive
14:22 I think if you had enough pony figurines you could fit about well 50 passengers in it well 49 passengers and one driver easy right?
I have the black canyon express in my storage room
On a shelf with a lot of my other g scale trains
That Christmas train music is making me go crazy
yep
I enjoyed the G scale videos :D
The newest versions of the Black Canyon Express now have the batteries in the locomotive.
choooooooooooooooooo choooooooooooooooooo
Ok, let's say like this. The german locomotive is a narowgauge locomotive. That means it is less than 1435mm between the rails. But the model company wanted the narowgauge locomotive to run on normal G scale track. So They had to make it bigger. /I'm sorry for my bad english, I'm a sweeda
Yes Sir, you are so so very correct about that.
Hey look, theres finally a MLP toy with someone at the age it was designed for. Also I like this train set, I picked the locomotive up from a thrift store and have to say that it is very nice for the price. EZtec has done a great job with these toys, its just the right amount of detail to make these look good while still making them functional as toys. The older New Brite ones were more detailed but were much easier to break.
yep, it's the place to be..!
......... i have a train set like the black canyon express but the engine is the same as the holiday express. but no glam and bling! same sound! nice
yep... I was killed by the Christmas train sound chip
In real life the narrow gauge train would be smaller than standard gauge trains. However with gauge 1 models of narrow gauge trains they have to be scaled up so that they can fit the track gauge and still be in proportion with their real world prototype.
well we ALL need to know..!
Nice review it get me in the holiday spirit
this one is a killer
I had the older black canyon express, the engine was bigger and heavier and and no open cab,and the tender was black and connected to the engine no matter what
OHH MY LUNA PINKIE PIE IS DRIVING A TRAIN!!!
Nearly everyone keeps on putting up christmas decorations early and early every year
The Cabooses are the ones with the observation rooms at the top, it's what they use in America.
this is the best detailed g scale train ever
lolz not joking
For the scale its simple the black canyon express was made for indoor play as well but it also had an intention of being o e of those dual purpose trains because the track fits around an x-mas tree base.
The problems with 3801 haven't been covered in much detail here. Our new mainline steam locomotive, 60163 Tornado has a boiler also built by Meinengen and despite a period of concern, has proven a free steaming and reliable boiler.
Just on that Simierski I have just regained control on a video which copped a DMCA strike 8 months ago. There is a scam getting about from a number of so called media companies who pull ownership rights over royalty free music. One of the big troublemakers is a company called adrev....name sort of says it all. They have a passion for misidentifying music tracks here on youtube, and it takes months to resolve. They bank on the fact most people will not drill down and stand up to them.
Thumbs Up!~John
I have a disney version and another version of the disney one. I see those toy trains a lot all using the same style of track and slightly diffrent versions of each set.
if you have enough room the presents are still under the tree with the train layout surrounding it. If you're like me with only enough room for the trains then you just store the presents to the side or in the basement untill christmas day.
I remember I had a set like the black canyon express, except mine came with a gondola and puffing smoke!
I think the black canyon engine was smaller because it had to fit under a christmas tree, so if it was bigger, it might hit some of the tree's branches.
Lol I think ur videos r awesome they give me thought of toys I should buy
I prefer flex than snap..!
The German set is bigger, in other words, because it's a smaller scale. Sort of like putting a standard-gauge-style OO gauge engine next to a HOn3 Narrow-gauge locomotive. (They both run on the same rails :P)
Leo, I reckon one of these days you need to do a "weathering" video on one of these G scale train sets - like you did with that superb crane you used in Mad Bomber 1 all those years ago. Would turn a fairly plasticky looking train into something more grimy and realistic.
The Caboose is like a house on wheels. From what I know of brake vans, they're just big enough for the guard to sit and well, brake! Both share the same function, but they're different in their own ways.
The less flashy of the two G-Scale trains looks good, but not nearly as good as the German.
I wonder if the 'derpy' wheels were intended, to give the engine a realistic 'rocking' movement?
Luke looks interesting, I liked his role in the movie. Winston was too funny with The Fat Controller :D
Lets call them Brony wheels....so we are all happy..!
the Christmas train couplings remind me of Bachmanns couplings
Cool video leo
If you want to get technical
In Australia they are called Guard's vans. In the UK they are called Brake vans and in the USA they are called a Caboose
thats the norm unless your RWJ or smosh.....the subscription feeds have been busted for years, there are quite a few tubers I am subscribed to and I never get a notice the video is uploaded
Admire your commitment to sharing what you learn with various sets. So far I prefer spending a few bucks more to use a transformer over batteries and better sound chip but thbanks for the videos
0:01 that’s nyx’s train! not g3 pinkie pie’s train but I can see why because nyx would disappear because her coat is black but her hair is purple and her eyes are a very light green and a very light blue mixed together
Cool
I am yet to look at the cheap cam helicopter, if it's stable in flight it should be good but my fear is it will be too jumpy in flight to get any good footage
I do see from the K-Mart where I bought it they are very popular, so soon curiosity will kill the cat
3:59 TRUN IT OFFFFFF! TURN IT OFFFFFF!!!
Hey leokim, here in florida,USA i spotted the Black Canyon ( exact same colors and wagons) for 49.99 as well.
well she drives the friendship express seems legit
Get mr hammer that sound chip is killing me "dies"
I have 2 variants of the Black Canyon set with the figure 8 layout (one with a high pitch sound)
Whats interesting is that the Black Canyon Express Loco is the same engine and design as a Lionel Train one........
say leo, you ever seen 1/8 scale trains before? they are huge trains, even larger than G scale, in fact, if you put you camera in front of one of them, it will look like a real full size train. These have been used in movies before. take under siege 2 dark territory for example
pony + train = EPIC
Pinkie Pie, get away from the locomotive!
awesome G scale train, way better then the holiday express one.
btw, are you able to see the power trains anywhere in the stores where you live?
if not, you could probably get them off ebay or something.
g scale trains are actualy dived into several scales LGB and Bachmann are modeled after narrow gauge locomotives and are 1;20 whereas other companys go smaller sutch as 1:32 scale but all run on 45mm track
The reason your black canyon train is smaller because the prototype is a standard gauge model, wile the other one is a narrow gauge model.
that black canyon engine reminds me of an old steam engine I rode behind when I was young, if you did a repaint on the engine that is
narrow guage is smaller than normal trains but when using the same guage model track the smaller appears larger because its a bigger scale than the normal standard guage trains using the same train.
The Holiday express looks awful. It should take a long holiday to the North Pole...
Surprised at the track gauge issue. That's really unusual in these big train packs.
Nice
Train
O
Would rather have the thomas theme playing than that horrbile sound chip on the holiday express
Another member of the herd!
I think that pony is Pinkie Pie but the hair looks a bit odd. The cutie-mark is correct though.
I'm a bit of a sucker for the cheap and nasty stuff...sad to say
You sir have earned a cookie (::)
9:44 the Marklin Engine!!!
my daughter LOVES Minecraft.....she plays in creative mode now, I can't do a game review because of the legal aspect to game reviews...i'll get a copyright strike if I put up any game footage online
I actually got this for Christmas and the tracks were broken in every box!
