TIP: Fortuna Foothills in Yuma. Behind Circle K is a dump, I believe it’s free. S Fortuna Rd Exit east on East Frontage road, first right driveway continue straight behind Circle K and you will see it. I was just in that area, pretty chill, have also seen RVs park in lot by Planet Fitness.
as far as the hose goes a simple plastic fence post mounted under your frame gets this job done real easy. couple pins to keep it in there. maybe a number of drain holes on the bottom? but can hold a number of hoses in it so pull out as needed.
Thanks so much for the info on the composting toliet! I just ordered the smaller Nomad version for our van build. It will be perfect 👌 ! You're the bomb, Bird! 🐦🦜🦉🦅
It's good to see you again. A year ago February, I bought a class A RV. She is a bit older but heck aren't we all, 1997 isn't too bad. She only had about 42k miles for $8600. I am going back through all of your videos and taking notes. I have gone on two trips sticking to I-35 both times. I'm not ready for 2-lane highways yet. The plans for this year are 1) get my 91 yr old father moved in with my daughter, 2) put rubber on the RV roof, 3) replace all of the plumbing in the toilet that a friend managed to blow apart, 4) put better tires on the front, 5) get the Generac generator cleaned & hopefully running, and sneak in a short trip in the fall. WOW the things I have learned. Make sure to watch your mirrors because they are easy to knock off. Don't let any Joe blow put a tire on because you might end up sitting on the side of the highway with all but 1 lugnut stripped away (that was a scary one). When I bought her she went straight in to have the motor and chassis inspected then to another well-known and hated by most RV dealership to have the house checked out. Someone forgot to look at the brakes. I left my parking spot in Austin to go empty my tanks, my exit was coming up and when I went to my brakes to begin slowing down that sucker went to the floor. I calmly mentioned this to the friend with me & I thought he was going to jump ship. Thank goodness I listened to at least one thing my gearhead ex hubby had taught me how to maneuver with no brakes. That kicked in and I e braked & used the lower gears to drive 14 miles in Austin traffic. I was eerily calm during the crisis but once I got parked I ran out the door and threw up, I was shaking beyond control, but we made it. The next day I had it towed to a semi garage and had nothing that functioned on my rear brakes. I hope to run into you at some point during our travels. See ya.
I’ve used composting in previous rigs. I liked them. But I’m dumping my gray tank. So it’s not like I never dump. I’ve now got a black tank with a macerator on my class b. I dump when I have to dump my gray tank. Takes an extra 30 seconds. AND no more poop bags
@@cwheremonster8870 poop bags once a month. No biggie and beats the hell out of once a week for black tank for me. And gray water doesn’t hurt the environment at all. In fact it helps plants. I don’t even own a stinky slinky any more.
Robin, while staying at the LTVA this happened to me. A small 20-24 ft rig took over 40 minutes, I THOUGHT HE HAD SET UP CAMP( lol) 2 1/2 hours later I finally got to dump. Super busy during the month of January.
Good of you to take the time to video these many units and varying degrees of dumping procedures. Folks will step over a dollar to same a dime. If free is convenient, its a win, but paying five or ten bucks to not wait in a line is more valuable if given the choice between the two
I can't imagine why anyone would take their time at a dump station under any circumstances. I can hardly stand driving past those smelly places! I'll stick with plastic bags for now.
It takes me about 12 minutes to dump two separate tanks. Sometimes it might take 15. I don’t use their portable water. so, everybody watching this video needs to go out of their way to be kind to the new people or possibly people that are struggling for one reason or another. Just be nice to each other and it’ll be contagious.
Big fan of the composting toilets. I originally had a nature's head - which I recommend if you have space and camp a lot. You have to take it out of the airstream to really clean it. Or at least have a wet bath? I got the Trelino which is just okay. It's nice and small and I am keeping it, but I wish I had looked into the OGOs.
I wash my dog in head and shoulders shampoo. I store it in my water bay. I'm really ocd about not storing a stinky water hose. I ran out of dawn dish soap and used the shampoo. I've never had a stinky sewer hose since. It only takes 2 minutes to wash it out. AND I totally agree about being polite at the dump station. I never take that much time to dump!
That's insanity. I've fortunately never had something like happen before. I've used a $10 dump station at a Love's travel stop right in Yuma and have never had to wait at that one.
Wow! Thanks for this video! I am new new new, like just put a deposit on my first RV new. This is something I didn't think about yet. I will have to make sure I go to a dump station at a less busy time since I know I will be slow the first several times 😮 I would never ever want a line of people like that waiting on me! I would probably have a panic attack 😅 and have a poopsie too, right in front of everyone 💩 Hopefully I will get some good practice in at campgrounds with full hook ups, which is my starter plan, before doing the boondocking I want and trying out a dump station like that! Thank you!!
They obviously don't care. People like that never do. They are totally detached from the concept of caring about how their actions (or the lack thereof) affects the other folks around them. It's typically the way they were brought up.
Wow!! Thank you for sharing that info. As an inspiring camper I need to know things like this. I have began building out my minivan and documenting my journey on my youtube station. I will definitely keep your toilet choice in mind.
Have you looked into the Throne Composting Toilet? It's less expensive than the OGO, and seems like a good setup. I don't think they're quite ready to sell them yet, but should be soon.
That makes me glad I have a teardrop. Lol Boat ramp etiquette seems to be out the window as well. As I was preparing to put my boat in the water and waiting for the kayakers (Yes, kayakers), using the boat ramp, You could imagine my frustration when they set up chairs in 3 inches of water on the ramp to relax after they put them in, not realizing people behind them, trying to get their real boat in the water.
He wasn't a newbie, by any chance, was he? I know that when we were new it took us a bit longer than usual but we were very apologetic if we created lines. And we quickly learned how to be more efficient and fast at the dump stations!
We have had some strange examples at the dump station. On trucker got out and told us he was going to put up a cap in our heads. He got pulled over down the road. Lost his job too.
Geez! I'm getting a hybrid composting toilet - a Separett Tiny Toilet. Liquid drains to the gray tank, solids go into a bag you throw in the dumpster. You can use a little kitty litter or peat moss if you like. Constant exhaust fan (silent) ensures no smell. There is the possibility of odor from the gray tank coming up through the shower drain, but a bath plug takes care of that easily. 😊
Ditto for the gas pumps as well. I just want to pump diesel and go. My last trip pulled in behind a van at Love's. Had to pull up close for hose to reach. I tow a 12 ft TT. Someone pulled up behind me. Got filled up an waited and waited and waited for van driver to return. Cant go around because it it too tight. Can't back up. Basically trapped for 45 MINUTES.....Unbelievable!!!! Guy behind me did back up and went to another pump. Still couldn't back up because cars parked along the curb behind me and no way to swing the trailer. I can't drive after dark and had to regroup on my designated overnight spot because i lost 45 minutes of daylight.
This is one issue I’ve found that being a diesel makes difficult. You pull in to the station that has only one diesel pump and you have ding bats like that using it for gasoline.
Some people just don't care about it. They think they are above everyone. I know about it. I have a motor home, a camper and a conversion van.I've seen this many of times.
I’m been gathering things in the event I can finally get on the road. The first thing I bought is a small composting toilet w biodegradable bags. It’s small enough to fit in my car too. My dream is to eventually have a “tiny house” but those plans include a composting toilet there too. I’m currently in a normal house and having periodic plumbing problems (old house, old plumbing) is such a pain. At least with composting toilets, you just have to make sure you have the composting medium and bio-bags. Sometimes simpler is better.
We've had black water tanks and we've had composting toilets. The Black water always smells and the composting is very expensive and prone to break down as well as using up energy. We now just use a simple garbage bag toilet which we use at night and empty in the morning. It never smells. It's clean. It's easy to use and it takes a very little space in a cabinet.
We spent quite a bit of time this winter camped near the LaPosa South dump station (away from the smell!), and you would not believe the things we saw. Unbelievably slow people and their screaming non-fan club. It was better than an episode of Real Housewives.
Lol I listened to your intro and went straight to the comment section. I can't watch it. There are enough jack-holes is real life to be aggravated by one in a video. Over entitled narcissism seems to be the current pandemic and I've pretty much reached my limit.
Sorry for your situation! THIS IS MY PET PEAVE TOO , it Absolutely drives me nuts when people take this long at a dump station. It takes No More than 3MIN to dump 100 gallons , rinse out your hose and leave. If you need water at least pull out of the way or park on the other side and run your hose so others can dump. Other note... all city water is potable there is Not a separate system for non potable. So if you see a tap in a city is good too go.
@1:58 mark, the aerial view of the dump station doesn’t seem to indicate a one-way travel restriction. Absent any overt indications of directional constraint - how is a driver supposed to know that they are going the ‘wrong way’?
I have a spray bottle with a very mild bleach solution to spray the ends of the sewer hose and drain elbow and my hands after I dump. Great video! Glad I wasn’t there. I may have launched a Byrna ball near him, but second thoughts would have put him down for 30 more minutes. Choices! I would’ve gone over and tried to explain some etiquette and not sure where it would’ve gone from there. He looked avg. I am pretty good size. 6’ and 250lb, ex Army. Don’t think I would get push back.
Our Free dump station at the rest stop we use has a water hose without a screw on connector at the end. Now I know why!! You can’t use it to flush or fill your tanks!!
I agree. A Berkey or ProOne. I have the ProOne in my house. Love it. Gravity fill no electric needed clean water for everyday and future Hurricanes. FL. Girl 🌴

TIP: Fortuna Foothills in Yuma. Behind Circle K is a dump, I believe it’s free. S Fortuna Rd Exit east on East Frontage road, first right driveway continue straight behind Circle K and you will see it. I was just in that area, pretty chill, have also seen RVs park in lot by Planet Fitness.
as far as the hose goes a simple plastic fence post
mounted under your frame gets this job done real easy. couple pins to keep it in there. maybe a number of drain holes on the bottom? but can hold a number of hoses in it so pull out as needed.
I’m so happy that I have a portable toilet.
My sisters and i took an RV road trip years ago. We learned so much about operating the RV, dump stations, toilet etc.
Thanks so much for the info on the composting toliet! I just ordered the smaller Nomad version for our van build. It will be perfect 👌 ! You're the bomb, Bird! 🐦🦜🦉🦅
i’m in a van, too and it’s time for an upgrade from my 5 gal bucket system. the nomad is an affordable option. thanks for bringing it up!
And that’s another reason why I camp in my SUV. 😂😂
I have a class A and have it down to a reasonable seven minutes to dump. It's a matter of being respectful of other people.
Love your hair, BTW.
He’s going to play that game on the wrong day, at the wrong time with the wrong person waiting. I hate rude, selfish people. Be safe
See ya.
Yes. Composting toilets. We haven’t been to a dump in over a year,,,,,,,,and never will be again. Don’t miss THAT task.
Same here. People are causing themselves so many unnecessary problems, because they REFUSE TO LISTEN.
I have seen people do this at dump stations. If you think that is bad check out youtube videos from public boat launches. It's even more insane.
Tfs, I haven't started my RV life yet but your tips are helping me
It takes me about 12 minutes to dump two separate tanks. Sometimes it might take 15. I don’t use their portable water. so, everybody watching this video needs to go out of their way to be kind to the new people or possibly people that are struggling for one reason or another. Just be nice to each other and it’ll be contagious.
Thank you! For the info👍🏼
I put a OGO in my Pleasure Way after seeing your video, thank you so much. As a single traveler I appreciate how easy it is to empty
It’s like a boat ramp on the 4th of July. There is always that one person…
This actually happened to this in Williams AZ in 2020. My husband said “order the Natures Head”! LOL
Great video, Chick!!✌🐢
You should have 10 people around him filming just because if he’s going to take that long, you might as well bother him!
That seems so horribly cruel. Maybe he has medical issues.
Reminds me of how grateful I am to have a dry toilet. No dump stations!! 😊
BTW is this the only station?? Come back later? Drive on to the next one? I don’t get participating in the drama and letting it consume everyone. 😮
He might have had one too many gummies 🤣🤣🤣
I wash my dog in head and shoulders shampoo. I store it in my water bay. I'm really ocd about not storing a stinky water hose. I ran out of dawn dish soap and used the shampoo. I've never had a stinky sewer hose since. It only takes 2 minutes to wash it out. AND I totally agree about being polite at the dump station. I never take that much time to dump!
You said it all sister!!! 😊
In Arizona, many rest areas on the highway have potable water stations too. Right by the sidewalk when you pull up. It's good water.
That's insanity. I've fortunately never had something like happen before. I've used a $10 dump station at a Love's travel stop right in Yuma and have never had to wait at that one.
Omgosh how nerve-wracking. Unbelievable
We did the Tim and Shannon composting toilet. Amazing. On a computer fan.
Two great things about this video: we weren’t in that line and it’s funny from this side of the screen.
He wasn't a newbie, by any chance, was he? I know that when we were new it took us a bit longer than usual but we were very apologetic if we created lines. And we quickly learned how to be more efficient and fast at the dump stations!
Educating....even to the people who are crappy ... I use campgrounds but yeah you are right thinking about fellow campers
....
We have had some strange examples at the dump station. On trucker got out and told us he was going to put up a cap in our heads. He got pulled over down the road. Lost his job too.
That did help. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
I was behind people who took showers while connected! Held everyone up.
I got mad just watching this...some people are beyond help.
I'm saving up for the ogo 😊
When I had a sailboat, I used a5 gallon Home Depot bucket. Put some pellets from tractor trailer store and threw it out every couple days. Easy Peasy.
Some people just don't care about it. They think they are above everyone. I know about it. I have a motor home, a camper and a conversion van.I've seen this many of times.
Dump station stories aren’t my favorite, but they are a solid number two.
Robin, this is a rookie question...I assume that dump stations listed in guides, but are potable water stations listed as well?
Very good question! I’ll be a newbie soon & learning from Robin is important for this 65+y/o solo to be.
Another great b reason for a Composting toilet!
I have an OGO. It’s pretty easy to deal with. The worst part is having to empty the urine every couple of days. But I can put it in a regular toilet.
Question about the OGO and the coconut coir. Where do you buy your coir? How often do you have to buy more, do you buy it in bulk?
We've had black water tanks and we've had composting toilets. The Black water always smells and the composting is very expensive and prone to break down as well as using up energy. We now just use a simple garbage bag toilet which we use at night and empty in the morning. It never smells. It's clean. It's easy to use and it takes a very little space in a cabinet.
Empty in the morning where????
We spent quite a bit of time this winter camped near the LaPosa South dump station (away from the smell!), and you would not believe the things we saw. Unbelievably slow people and their screaming non-fan club. It was better than an episode of Real Housewives.
That's crazy!! just found your channel, Subscribed!!!
Lol I listened to your intro and went straight to the comment section. I can't watch it. There are enough jack-holes is real life to be aggravated by one in a video. Over entitled narcissism seems to be the current pandemic and I've pretty much reached my limit.
I agree on OGO for the win! It's just me, and I can't go more than 2 weeks between compost swaps though.
Also maybe he was waiting a long time before him. And also early bird gets the worm. And dog eat dog
Wow , that’s craziness
You are such a sweet informative person!
Thanks for your video!
New SUB here! 👍🏻❤️
On top of it All; he isn't wearing Any Gloves..
right? ew
I agree. A Berkey or ProOne. I have the ProOne in my house. Love it. Gravity fill no electric needed clean water for everyday and future Hurricanes. FL. Girl 🌴
So great you are quick witted
With pure common sense. Lol. Love the way you.lay out the common sense simple facts.
Being a fulltimer 32' Gulf Stream myself boondock 85% of the year. Great video now its time for my before dump quick shower then Dump in 5 miles I have my stop watch handy. Be safe and God Bless.
