Thanks for this info. So funny people worry about bags of compost waste in the garbage but not millions of disposable baby diapers
Mine just came in the other day. Wanted to mention: if you get flies, sprinkle ash on top!
It’ll stop them from breeding. Campfires ash, or whatever. Just a tip I picked up from my permaculture stuff 😸
Hi, sure wish we knew about composting toilets, they sound like the cats meow! My husband and I were for boondockers for 30 years until the pandemic hit. We were nomads for 20 of those years then decided for age but mostly health reasons, bought a house, not a home, our rig was our home. We travelled north America, Mexico, Belize and Central America all in our motorhome. We are from Canada mostly as a nomad. Sure like that word, we were snowbirds, winter Texans, and just plain houseless. We're now 82, loved every minute , so keep doing what your doing and we will keep following you. Oh, one of our reasons to be nomadic was our love of birds, and music, we became birders in Texas, and my husband played guitar so followed the Bluegrass festivals.
When people complain about throwing the compost in the trash it's better than baby diapers that I don't believe break down lol
Exactly!
You can get coconut coir from any pet store or Lowe's in a pinch.
Thank you!
I will forever remember these words ….”Dangle your dingle”……LOL….😂
😂
Totally agree on composting toilets. I have been using one for 2 yrs now. No water wasted needlessly.
When urine is diluted 10 to one it makes great fertilizer for trees and won't burn plants / no smell. Also using white vinegar mix in spray bottle after rinsing urine bottle freshens the jug.
All is better for the planet.!
Awesome option. Getting away from dump stations sounds like the best idea ever. When talking about dumping pee outside, or just peeing outside, please use this forum to promote Leave No Trace camping principles which say do it 200 steps away from any water source.
I love your thorough research, honesty, and presentation. Thanks for working so hard to give us quality content. And great hair!
Get a Trelino toilet and thank me later. Trelinos do not use water. Many cassette toilets use 3-5 gallons of water. A gallon of water weights 8.34 lbs. So you are carring 25 lbs to 41 lbs of water around. With a Trelino just dump #2 in the trash can and empty #1 in the toilet. It is a simpler design.
A wood box equipped with a seat, urine separator and a plastic bin liner (filled with cedar chips) will equal any of these high tech marvels on performance, and crush them on cost.
Yup. Look at the throne for a cheaper alternative
My husband and I are truckers and if you have ever spent any time walking through a truck stop in the summertime, you might change your mind about dumping your pee just anywhere. It STINKS😷🤢
Vinegar
Good point! And being responsible of one’s waste is vital!
I've been wanting to put a toilet in the second building on my property, but it would've required breaking the slab and running sewer lines. This would be so much easier!
If you have access to the power grid, you might also want to consider an incinerating toilet.
Eco John
A local police dept did just that, put a composter in a closet
I'm with you. I don't know why anyone would want a flushing toilet. A composting toilet is so advantageous in every way!
I don’t even have a camper? Rv? And I feel like you’ve already made your money back. 2 yrs!? Nah. This thing is so cool.
Very cool! I think I would want the diverter. A note about gray water is that the food particles tend to attract rodents so I have used a 50’ garden hose to get it far away.

Diverter is absolute Must any way you go - mixing solid and liquid is what makes foul smell = think pit toilet in forest camp grounds!!
🙃😏
7:20 - YES. I have a Class C, and i have a schedule..on my cabinet door..that tells me when to hit the black tank and to use the gray for flush. For me, it's around day 12-13. So EVERY OTHER WEEK, first day off, black tank then gray tank. Schedules work....but then again, i live alone with a 5 lb dog, so if i'm off a day or so, it's easy to just see the shower not drain and just head outside to pull a lever. SOME of the people with me leave their gray tanks open all the time. NO. I use my gray to flush the hose. That way, the water does two jobs!
Human adult waste isn't much different that human baby waste on diapers that goes into the trash everyday. Dog and cat waste is also bagged and goes into the trash on a regular basis, so I don't understand why people think there would be a problem getting rid of the composting waste. Boondockers would be wise to bury it VERY deep or animals would dig it up and scattered for the detriment to all. Thanks for sharing this new option.
Yep. Poop is poop.
As I started researching van life vs RVs, I was quickly converted to using a composting toilet, especially once I learned about building my own. The idea of black tanks was just gross, plus being a waste of space. I’m fine tuning mine right now, and using kitty pine pellets meant no odor at all. Win win!
I'm working on a modification like that now. I don't currently put any solids in my black tank, and would like to just have a simple pee bucket. Does the kitty litter work well? Does it need to be emptied often?
Awesome. Same thoughts here re black tanks.
Kitty pine pellets are a more specialized and expensive version of pine pellet bedding for horses, just as a note.
The equine version comes in larger quantities, which is great for off grid stationary living, but a possible drawback for mobile use. If you know a few other campers with composting toilets consider buying and splitting a big bag.
I just don't see what the big deal about black tanks is. It's really no big deal to empty it. Takes about 15 minutes.
@@nygrl6102
If you spend time in cold weather you may find Another negative to black tank - freeze up... Saw it happen to an RVer going to AK late May & late snow storm.
I dumped a gallon of windshield washer - anti freeze in my black tank - it worked in an emergency for me.
@@ellafields9424 good point!
We have had a c-head for three years and it works great, so easy to empty. And its just a one gallon jug for the pee, I empty my jug once a day and put a new one in once a month, and emptying the compost is so easy and it stays fluffy, just lift out the bucket. I pour the pee in a wash, rinse it out and when its time to empty the compost into a plastic bag.
I appreciate an opportunity to see one more composition toilet. I’ve already decided I’m getting a C-head to me that’s the best with urine diversion to the black tank. As far as I’m concerned you chose the right one. Who needs lights, motors to monitor & fix??
Good luck with C-Head. I'm still waiting for them to send my order that was placed 2/18/22. They told me in April that my order would ship on 6/15 and I still don't have it. They don't answer emails, phone calls or posts on their website. I'm so disgusted!
@@lauramooney5181 oh no! I’m so sorry to hear that. I hope you get it soon. It’s a great composting toilet. I purchased mine in 2018 and the owner was very responsive at that time. I know his production ran behind due to Covid though.
Love your haircut!!! 😍 I also love your intro on this video!! 🤣
I want you to know that I look up to you and see you as my virtual RV mom. 💗
I know, it's cheesy, but your videos are so incredibly helpful and you have this calm spirit about you that I find nurturing. 🤷♀️
Much love,
A long time viewer. 💙
My garden composter takes months to breakdown organic material
This sounds like a dream compost toilet. I have always wanted to use them in my home, but building codes won't allow me to replace the regular plumbed one. This one is compact enough to be able to set it near the regular toilet and use it.
Totally perfect timing! I've been kicking this idea around amd now I'm ready. Thanks! 👍🏼
Great & informative, composting with OGO sounds like a winner!
You are so articulate and thorough. You are my favorite RV nomad and you run a top notch channel that I love. Hope to see you on the road sometime soon!!! 😃
This is so amazing! I never thought about the points you brought up and now I am rethinking and will probably do the same thing when I get the RV. As always, thank you for your sharing your tips
You are fabulous & yes I’m going to change my toilet out for a composting. I still had a few concerns however you’re the best and you solidified my decision-thank you ever so much!
You can get large compost bags to dump toilet waste into and place in compost bins if available.
Fantastic video, Robin. I live full time in my 5th wheel parked on private property. This composting toilet would make life so much better.
Thank you, love all you informative videos and following your travels!
Happy Going Robin, thanks for the insight! It sounds sooo much better than the older versions.
Oh! I’m always interested in a new composting toilet! I’ve been looking at The Cuddy but it’s got a 14 week lead time. Upside it has a charcoal filter so you don’t have to worry about a hose or fan, and it’s $720! But I love that this has the light and mixes itself! Like holy amazing!!! Also unrelated but I absolutely love your hair! Idk if I’ve already said it but OMG it looks amazing hon! ❤️ Miss your face hope you’re well!
This was great information! I've been considering going with a composting toilet when I get my RV, so your video came at just the right time 😁 I'm looking forward to seeing your future video on evaporating the gray tank!
I was looking at them, too. I don't understand why they're so freaking expensive though.
So enjoy listening to you and what you are doing. Even though I’m not on the road I’m sure I pick up some problem solving skills from you. Happy travels!
Perfect!! As I near the time when I will choose my rv, I already know that I will put in a composting toilet but now you’ve given me a better option. (was going to get a Natures Head) Thank you!! I’m also going to take out the black tank which will lighten the over all weight and maybe give me room for another fresh water tank if I want. We’ll see.
Thanks again, Robin. Always informative and right on time.😉
I'm so glad you posted this video. I've been looking into a compost toilet for my rv but I haven't seen anyone post about the ogo other than their own website. I'll be purchasing an ogo soon. Thank you so much for your video!
We bought an OGO 4 months ago and love it! I found using coconut coir better than pete moss. I also bought SunMar’s enzyme breakdown powder and add it. Works awesome and no smell! I dont put t.p. in the poop part 😊
What is the downside to putting the TP in the poop part? It has to be thrown away regardless, right?
Leta, I don't know how much you pay for SunMar's Enzyme. I do know that Rid -X uses the exact same aerobic and anaerobic bacteria in their product. It may be cheaper for you. These are the enzymes that break down waste, and can be found in all soils, even the air, all over the globe. I learned this when keep salt water fish. They even live in the "soil" of fish tanks, fresh and salt.
Good luck with your endeavour. :)
How often do you have to empty out the solids bin?
Despite not having an RV or a camper, and not being in the market for a composting toilet, I found this fascinating! 😄You're a very engaging speaker and so knowledgeable. Great information!
Great review. You are always so thorough, Robin. Thank you
Great content and so educational for a person who is NOT an RV er at the moment! Many thanks, Robin!
Wonderful and informative content as always! Thank you! Love your channel!! So glad you’re back!
I have a poor mans version of a composting toilet: marine toilet seat installed on a hinged box, bucket, separator, urine jug. It doesn't churn, but much easier to throw away the waste. Bucket is lined with a trash bag, started off using coconut coir sprinkled on solids, but ditched that and now just spray Angry Orange on the waste/toilet paper. It's a 3 gal small bucket so I dump the solids every 3 or 4 days.
Thank you so much for making this video! I appreciate you😊
Ya did it again girl...I,ve followed you...three years,now..(as I went FT IN MY SKOOLIE).Love your extremely informative videos...youre such a pro... YOU present things so we can truely understand...I thank you,SO MUCH....I LOVE YOUR HAIR....HAPPY TRAILS
Thank you, Robin. That was very helpful.
Thanks for sharing planning live in a class c rv since my wife passed away July 13th 2022.
Sorry for your loss🙏🙏🙏
Way to go, Doug!! LOL Love the video, I think this is for me!! Thank you so much!!
You are always so thorough
Great info! Thank you for educating us.
I wanted to thank you for doing the research on the Composting Toilet. I purchased one for my sister that had been using porta-potties for the past 30+ years. She had also tried other Composting toilets that just did not work out. She has been very pleased with this Toilet.
Now I just need to convince my Husband to change the toilet in our Trailer.
Your videos are always so informative and entertaining. Thank you.
Great information, thanks Robin.
That compost toilet is so much better than the other ones on the market. I'm thinking about putting one of those now that I've seen the video into my travel trailer . Thanks Robin.
Great Instructional Video.....Went over everything. Thorough, Honest Real Points to Consider. Thank-you
Urine outside - some people don't realize that urine is sterile. It's not an environmental issue. However, because of the ammonia, it can smell if at high concentration in one spot. So just be nice and do a little way from people camp spots (at least in dry areas).
Thanks for TEACHING US THIS. This hairstyle you have here is my favorite on you!
Happy Sunday, Robin! This looks and sounds like a good one. Still can't afford it, but that's a me problem. Made in the US? That's a big plus! Great video, great details! Love the sectioning of the video, and times and titles in the description! Thanks for all the effort you put in to make your videos so high quality, informative, interesting, and easy to navigate! Have a great day!
Great Information, the water saving component is by far the best reason to invest in this toilet. Hope the states will offer rebates and/or tax credit for this eco friendly water saver.
I'm glad you let us know about all this. It just enforces my decision to keep my bucket and shopping bags. $10 😁😂
Just ordered mine! Thanks for the review and coupon! I am picking up my RV tomorrow!!
Hey Robin! Great video. We are attempting to educate boaters to convert to composting toilets and also recently were introduced to the OGO. The biggest resistance is the perception of smell and handling raw sewage. But the eco options, the lower cost compared to traditional vacuum / macerating heads and the hassle of finding dump / pump stations are making composting toilets a great viable option. kudos on your channel.
Great job of explaining everything. Urine for guys is easy and nutrient rich for plants.
Solids need a separate / dedicated composting bin since they take longer to full break down but very great water saving choice for homesteading as well.
Thank you for this video. I need a composting toilet for my barn. Now I know what is involved.
Thank you! I remember that you put a sock over the drain and let the grey water drip slowly, that was genius!
Thank you Robin for this info. 🍦🥰
Thank you so much you know I've been following you for years I don't comment that much cuz you're right on top of everything but the composting toilet you know we did a couple of months in a trailer and that was the one thing I hated was The Dumping and I knew if I go back into a camper trailer RV that will be the first thing I replace is the toilet and that new composting toilet what a game changer thank you so much and peace be with you and shine shine shine in the light of the Lord🌺✌
We all have our preferences. Personally I prefer the bucket with bag and funnel in a jug for urine separation method. What's best is left up to the individual preference. There's no right or wrong system. Great job explaining the product and if I were to get one this would be the one, just seems like it justifies the high (over the top) price more that others do. Thanks...
Dandy, can you provide a link to how to make your " bucket with a bag and funnel in a jug for urine separation method" ?
I live in a tiny house and love my composting toilet. Mine is a Separett. I have the diverter that just drains to a spot a little away from my house. Love the fact that I'm not wasting water on my bathroom habits lol.
How often do you have to dump it?
Thanks for the info on the toilet 🚽 Ogo
Thank you for the video. Blessings to you.
"Dude - just dangle your dingle! " LMAO!! Robin you are the bomb!!
GREAT information…. Thank you 🎉
Great info!
I love it!! It's prefect for tent and van life!!
Thank you for sharing. Love this toilet
Great information. Thank you 💕
Great explanation. Thank you for the video!
Thank you for the great information!
Love the intro of you talking to the toilet.
Thanks for the info!
Thank you for this great video. It was very helpful.
Great information!
Coconut coir is also completely renewable, great choice!
Thank you for the info. Brilliant
I keep bottles of water for the toilet instead of the flush water. So much waste. Didn't even think about putting a compost in this camper! Such a great idea. Still watching & curious if you removed the tank. Love that this is made in the US
What does it mean to evaporate your water?
Ty, Robin. @Creativity RV
Your right....its totally worth it
That is terrific!
Love the toilet talk!
Thank you for the peek into the pooper to see how it works. If I ever have the cash, I'm buying one of those!
Great info, thanks!
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing ❤️
Thanks for the informative video it's awesome 👌
Nice review.❤️
Lolol the opening bit 🤣🤣
I didn't know what I was going to do about the doo-doo for the winter in my TC without water. I ordered one, Thank you Robin
I have been researching this same toilet!
Thanks Robin for the info, the video AND the discount code that was still honored! Just ordered mine and will get it installed as soon as i get it, I have a Class B van, tired of the cassette toilet!
OK Robin, you talked me into it! Just ordered…
I'm so glad to hear you didn't install the exhaust hose - I didn't want it tied down. Big issue with bucket system vs toilet. I usually find another alternative for solids, so the pee jug is crucial - love the idea of an indicator for full jug!
