      If I did the pattern from row 16 to row 1 (reverse it ) would that make the lines look like they zig zag? I absolutely love this pattern. I'm a brand new knitter and have been attempting the blanket for a week now frogging it over a dozen times, and finally have gotten to the point where I repeated the 16 rows twice. But I want to make the lines zig zag. I watched the video and wrote each step down before realizing you had a free written pattern 😩 I absolutely love your videos so easy to follow and intend on making several of the blankets you have up. I crocheted for 20 years now and just picked up knitting and your one of the few videos I can watch and follow along so thank you

      Pretty sure that would work! But without knitting a sample to double check I can’t promise I’m 100% right.

    So i wanted to do the zig zag look instead and i did row 1-16, then started at row 15 and worked back to row 1, then did a "0" or even row, and then 1-16 again and let me tell you being new to knitting to begin with a 16 row repeat was challenging. For the past few weeks since i originally commented wondering if doing it backwards would achieve that look, ive tried doing the blanket idk a dozen times or so id get past the first 16 rows and then mess up and since i dont know how to fix a mistake id take it all apart get frustrated. Well im now at the third repeat of the 16 rows on row 14 and im loving the zig zag look. So for anyone wanting to make the lines zig zag, do 1-16 rows, then 15-1 add a row "0" or row of just knit stitches then back to row 1-16. Thank you so much for the amazing pattern

    I enjoyed knitting this. I did a baby size (cast on 134 sts) although I think it makes a good size for a lap blanket as well. I have just finished casting off. I only did 15 repeats of the pattern, like my pregnancies, towards the end I just wanted to see the end result. I did it in various shades of green, blue and orange with small balls of left over yarn or unravelling squares which I know won't ever be used for anything else. It does mean there will be quite a number of ends to sew in but I can do those at my next knitting club. The diagonal pattern isn't as well defined as in your photo but it can be seen. I look forward to knitting more of your blankets as I really like a lot of your stitch patterns and you explain how to do them so well.

      You can cast on however you like, it’s personal preference. My favourite method is the long tail and it’s the one you’ll see me use 99% of the time, but don’t let that stop you using an alternative cast on method, they will work with this blanket equally well 😀

    Beautiful project. Thank you. But I'm a little confused, if you keep slipping a stitch with yarn in front, it looks like you're progressively increasing each subsequent row by one stitch.

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  10 місяців тому

      No definitely not increasing by any stitches, I make sure that when I pick up the yarn while I slip the stitch I lift it back over when I’m done.

    Please indicate needle size, blanket size, multiples so size of blanket can be changed. I love this illusion pattern.

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому

      I cover this in the early part of the video, but I used 4mm needles, double knit yarn (400g approx) and the blanket was 60 x 80cm.
      Pattern multiple is 8+4 with an additional 18 stitches for the edging.

  • @TamarLitvot
    @TamarLitvot Рік тому

    Great tutorial! Question: since all the even rows are knit across, I assume the blanket isn’t reversible, right? I’ve done rows of knit and purl, moving one over each time so the pattern is diagonal, and it’s reversible. Is there a specific reason for the knit across rows?

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому +4

      Hi!
      Technically no, it’s not reversible - but the reverse isn’t messy, there’s just no obvious pattern.
      The reason for the knit across rows is two fold: 1. To make the pattern nice and simple for less experienced knitters. 2. I’m not a huge fan of lots of rows of purl stitches, so having every other row as knit only is a nice treat for my brain 😂

    • @TamarLitvot
      @TamarLitvot Рік тому

      @@SnufflebeanYarn Thanks so much. I think I'm going to try a sample and see what it looks like on the wrong side. I'm more a weaver than knitter and except when knitting hats, I like my knitted items to be reversible. But if it's pleasant on the wrong side, that's good enough!
      BTW, just discovered your channel. I used to crochet a lot before I took up weaving (and knitting). Seeing some of your projects is tempting me to get back into crochet!

    I want to knit a baby blanket of size 100cm by 75cm. How many stitches shoul i cast on?

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому +1

      Hi, it really depends on the yarn you’re using. I’d perhaps suggest casting on a small sample, measuring the width of that and then working out how many stitches based on my pattern multiple after that.

  • @ritatannehill7487
    @ritatannehill7487 Рік тому

    Is the slip one w/ yarn in front at the end of the row considered an “edge stitch”? I have another pattern that calls for this at the beginning and end of the row but there is no explanation and tho I have knit for a while I am not familiar with this

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому

      I’ve counted it as part of the edging, but a single stitch like this is often classed as a selvedge or “edge” stitch, without seeing the other pattern I can’t really comment about what the pattern is suggesting.

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому

      What country are you in so I can work out the best comparable yarn? In the U.K. we go by weight rather than ply. In reality though this pattern will work with any weight yarn - the size of the finished product would just different so you might need to adjust how many stitches you cast on

      Hi! Double knit is the equivalent to 8ply in Australia, sorry for the slow response, youtube didn’t notify me of your comment response. I would suggest casting on the same amount as I did and then if that looks too small you can always add a few stitches on in line with the pattern multiple.
