    I love watching your simple tutorials as I sit and knit. Can I suggest when casting off the garter St edge cast off on the wrong side it looks so much nicer on the right side. I've been knitting for 67 years and have picked up a few tricks along the way. Keep them coming ❤

    • @SnufflebeanYarn

      I like casting off with right side facing because I actually prefer the little ridge you get from the cast off more than a raw row of garter stitches from casting off on the wrong side.
      We all have our own preferences and that’s what makes crafting so wonderful

    I do mine log cabin style … do one edge at a time, turn and do the next edge, all around. Less needles that way and in a dark color you don’t miss the mitred corners. In a lighter color like this it might not look as beautiful though. Nice video … thanks!

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому +1

      It’ll work in the same way as I knitted it but as you’re working in stockinette it should be easier to pick up stitches - maybe slip the last stitch purlwise with the yarn in front to give you a nice play to pick up a stitch as you’ll only be picking one up per two rows?

    This is perfect. I'm knitting "A Stitch in Time" blanket and I wasn't loving the way she does the boarder. I also may try and put the stitches on hold instead of binding off and then do a 3 needle bind off to join all my squares together. The ridge it will create might add a little extra interest. Do you think what I want to try will work?

    • @SnufflebeanYarn

      Getting the kfb correct is key to getting the diagonal corners so my guess is you haven’t increased correctly on the straight side.

    Hi - How do you do a very large blanket? Eg 7 squares by 9 squares (each square measuring approx 6 inches)? Do you do this blanket edge by blanket edge, doing one square at a time on on each edge, then sew the seams of the border for each square together (only mitring at the blanket corner)? There would be no needles long enough to do the whole blanket edge in one go! Unless I'm missing something obvious?

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому

      You can buy cable connectors to make very long cable needs if you want to - it would be a mammouth task but possible! I’m a baby blanket addict myself so I haven’t ever knitted anything that large but I think if I did I would go down the cable connector route to get a seamless finish

      @@SnufflebeanYarn I understand. I just wanted to double check. I assume the same thing could be true with picking up/knitting through the stitches of the short edge rows as you're knitting the long edges too, if you're careful enough... I hate sewing with a passion so if I could create the same result without it, that'd be amazing.

    • @SnufflebeanYarn
      @SnufflebeanYarn  Рік тому +2

      Potentially, except the direction would be different with the long edges.

      @@SnufflebeanYarn Absolutely. It's something I'll try out on a sample and see how it looks because that's the important part. Otherwise, as you say, I'll just have to suck it up for the gorgeous end result. 😂

    • @JustAnotherBuckyLover
      @JustAnotherBuckyLover Рік тому

      @@SnufflebeanYarn I just realised that I think my explanation was a bit confusing here.
      Just to clarify: I didn't mean to pick up just a few stitches along the mitred edge of the previously completed cast-on/cast-off border, and then do lots of rows of garter... rather, I meant to do exactly what you did, but with the extra step of picking up an extra stitch through the edge of the mitre at the start and end of each of the long rows.
      I don't know if that's just making it more confusing. 😂But either way, I'll give it a try. Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. 🤗
