It's funny how Andy had boards from almost every major shaper of his time. Chili, JS, Mayhem, Arakawa, Tokoro, Merrick, perhaps more.

Cool edit! I think the lads put in a good effort to push themselves in difficult, heavy conditions and do the boards of the great one some justice. No-one will equal the sheer, raw power, style and control Andy exhibited, not for a very long time. I agree a re-issue of the boardies for the shoot would've been a nice touch

I'm okay with the fact the rising sun was used by Andy back then, he didn't know but it's got fucked up history with the people of S. Korea.
Even the legendary Christian Hosoi, whose trademark deck was the same thing (long before Andy Irons) stopped using it the past few years because of what he learned (good man).
Anyways, I wanted to see Ethan rip the boards since his style's like Andy's. But like someone else said here, they probably weren't pushing the boards since they're Andy's. Seth looked like he had great power amongst the 3, maybe from being a true Hawaiian, born and raised.
Andy rode 'em best. RIP legend.

The Rising Sun Flag is the military flag of Japan.
It was used as the war flag of the Imperial Japanese Army and the ensign of the Imperial Japanese Navy until the end of World war 2.
The flag was heavily used by the Japanese in the conquest and the occupation of East Asia, It is seen as offensive in countiries which were victims of Japanese colonialism, largely because of the war crimes perpetrated by the Japanese military.
This flag has similar meaning with Nazi flag.
Never forget that "Swinging Rising Sun flags" for Korean and the other victims in Asia,
is just same as "Swinging Hakenkreuz" for European peoples!
If you don't want to advocate Nazi flag, just do the same for the Rising Sun flag.
@Abi Dabu Thank you for your good knowledge. As far as I know, the Allied Forces apologized to Germany and reached an agreement. I heard that the Golden Cross at the top of the Dresden Cathedral was donated in England as an apology.
And when it comes to stars and stripes, I agree with you that "stars and stripes" are destroying Africa and the Middle East with a great cause. Middle Easterners would hate flags with stars and stripes like I hate the Rising Sun Flag.
But my country was completely destroyed by a country with Rising Sun Flag, not stars and stripes, and they didn't apologize or compensate the victims who were still alive.
My point is that I wonder why the Japanese don't admit their war crimes unlike the Nazis in Germany, but rather express the Rising Sun Flag as if they were proud of it.
And why do people like the Rising Sun Flag?

Did you know 6'6" Eric Arakawa's board looks like 'Japan's rising sunrise flag' or so called 'Japanese Hakenkreuz Flag'?
For Korean and other Asians the flag reminds Japan's atrocious acts during Japanese imperialism,
Just like in western culture, Hakenkreuz symbolizes Nazis atrocious acts,
Plus as far as I know of Andy Irons is a Hawaiian, and Japan's imperialists attacked Pearl Harbor under the Japanese Hakenkreuz Flag,
So it seems very weird for me to show the Japanese imperialists' flag to celebrate great Hawaiian surfer,
I don't think Stab magazine intended to insult Asian,
But now you guys know the history and what the Japan's rising sunrise flag means to us,

OK - enjoyable - but there is no commentary at all about whether the boards feel particularly different from today's - harder to ride, possibly finer rails etc? I remember things were finer, more rockered, rolled decks ... So ... this clip only says good surfers can still ride them ... yes - and what's your point? Uninteresting without some discussion.

Ewing is the only one who came remotely close to surfing like Andy. Still a far cry.
First of all, I didnt watch this video due to the thumbnail of it. I cant believe that metalica x billabong board which the rising sun flag is drawn is still used for marketing. I’m korean. And I have sent an email to suggest it’s wrong to use that symbol because it reminds what japanese army did. It’s same as using Hakenkruez. But it still not changed and post the picture of it.. Hope the marketin team of Billabong has noticed it and never use that design anymore.

That's pretty stupid to take those boards out. Why not just scan them and make exact replicas? Those boards should belong to the family. Im sure they had better flex and pop when Andy rode them. PU degrades w time and UV exposure, im sure they didnt feel the same 10 years ago.
If that is truly the original Rising Sun board it must be one of, if not the most collectable/expensive boards on the planet. Pretty irresponsible in my opinion to risk destroying it to make a video clip. Raise some (or a lot of) money for drug prevention or something by auctioning it off. I doubt Bruce or Axel want to see those boards used like that. Just my opinion.
