@@patrickgarvey146 pretty good point. They were the combination of all things good. Style inspired by the smooth, stylish power surfers of the 80s and the radical new tricks of the 90s. They knew what was weak and what was power. They knew what looked good and how to avoid the “gump” style.

Funny thing is, I saw the two of them together very close, and they don't know it. I was a teenager doing a summer camp at Christophe Reinhart house, in Bidart, and the last morning, the two brothers came to look at the waves from his house on the top of the hill. We were watching them watching the waves from behind like stalkers. I met them but they didn't meet me, we saw only their (not so large) back, ha ha!! It's like all the times when you "almost make it", story of my life
I miss Andy, got to surf with him at Seaside Reef in Cardiff Ca, pretty much it was just us in the water, must have complemented him a thousand times about what a great surfer he was, one of the best surfers ever.
Unforgettable moments. Before cell phones pictures we would just lock an image or memory in our mind and refer to it as needed.

Such a great wave! Before this contest it was somewhat of secret spot. Now you can’t go to Barra without at least 50 guys out. And if there’s a great swell running forget about it, so many people it’s crazy.
This is one of those epic, memorable sessions with the elite pros. The spot was firing and the boys were filthy.
It was surreal how good it was those first few days. Such a great event with the best surfers in absolutely firing waves. Epic, especially since no one knew what the wave was like and what to expect.

trips me out when i finally see footage like this it keeps happening. it's like these surfs where hugely popular back then, why am i only seeing this now? i've seen a few of the waves as i'm sure you all have like then one where andy does the air to floater, but this is a sick different angle
Thanks. This footage was in the Nalu Vault for over 15 years. It was only released on the BONUS FOOTAGE of the 2006 DVD The Freddy P Project: Interrogation- so that is why many people have never seen it before.

@@byronbaybarrels We actually did film this in Mexico and yes, we did know Andy and were able to film him before he took over the surf world- when he was still young. The Nalu Vault is deep and we still have footage to pull out.

Just go down way south and turn right after that hill with the yellow school on the left. It's down that sand rock road with the goats and chickens after the little church on the hill. Can't miss it. There are rocks on the right side of the bay.
